Early December I bought a Christmas tree from Brita's Old Town Gardens. Wish I would have been buying from her in the past because WOW! Beautiful trees that were full and lush and the tree stand is included! They offered service to help load my truck and they also offer delivery and set up as an option too. Just put my tree out on the curb for trash day and it's still so vibrant and green and few to no needles falling off. Still so healthy! I don't want to let it go yet lol. FYI SAVE YOUR TREE STAND because she also offers a discount on next year's tree when you bring it back. Super cool! Not to mention all the other beautiful plants and pottery there too. This place is really lovely! The employees do their own thing & occasionally ask if you need any service. There were a lot of people in the garden so we kept our masks on (I believe it was mandatory - my friend was told to put his mask on). All kinds of plants, especially lavender which is my favourite. I forgot whether prices were visible or not. Would have enjoyed more labeling of the plants and care instructions so you can decide whether a plant is right for you instead of pursuing attraction. Long overdue review but it is mostly for California outside plants. I found a great deal for two small white sage's for under $20. She had many colorful pots and I do not think it is a small establishment but family owned? She offers other unique patio pieces in her garden walk. Lovely set up and loved the prices. Will be returning as this is one of my personal favorite. Parking is all around you will be walking but it will be a quaint. read more

In my opinion not very big abs most of the plants are not in good condition ( my style is house plants and) this place was more like edible plants but they did carry very nice pots. Such a cute garden/plant store in a quaint downtown area. I like that the workers let you walk around independently to check out the different options. I don't feel pressured to hurry up or buy anything. The man who helped me was EXTREMELY RUDE! I showed him a picture of what I wanted. He proceeded to show me his plants that matched the picture. It was not a match in my opinion. I politely said this and asked about another plant. He stated, "I showed you what you wanted and now you are asking about something else!" THE LADY WORKING THERE IS RUDE, IGNORANT AND NOT GOOD WITH CUSTOMERS. She has little knowledge about plants so it's obvious her social knowledge and cues with people are even less than that. She has people standing around as she walks around aimlessly avoiding customers, she keeps peoples money on the counter then walks away because she "forgot something" and then comes back 15 minutes later. Such a great place. Went in to pick up some vegetable plants to try and start growing for the first time. Ended up picking up two chili plants. Wasn't sure what they would need in terms of soil and pots though since I live in an apartment and the plan was to put them on our balcony and this would be my first time growing something that wasn't a cacti. The man there, a previous teacher, (I'm sorry I forgot your name sir) was very helpful and kind in pointing us in the right direction in helping them grow. He gave us instructions on how to properly plant them and take care of them and was overall just very wonderful and sweet to talk to. The nursery is small but they still do have a good selection to choose from and it's a very welcoming and nice environment. Will be coming back very soon! read more

Secret Garden Oh how flowery, leafy & downright unique-y vegetation really gets me going. I mean, mother nature and her endless beauty always has a special place in my heart. So, naturally, Brita's was a spot that I had to check out and take a look around. Though I only strolled through the yard area & small indoor room for the more "temp-eramental" and tropical selections, it was such a great feeling to admire the earths homemade decorations. Main street Seal Beach has a lot to offer as far as nightlife and simple beach community charm goes, but theres also something about this place that has a homey feel to it. From the post office, tea room, bakeries, AND YES Brita's- it just feels like a time warp back to a more pleasant and less chaotic time, BUT... I digress! Highlights & Low-lights: *Welcoming and has somewhat of a vintage tinge to the place *Name of plant life is clearly visible *Indoor and outdoor selections *Staff was inside the main purchase area and we did not see one person to help us out when we strolled the outdoor scene *Everything seemed alive and healthy This place was cute and even sparked up some HGTV talk between me and my dear sister. My girlfriend and I were in Seal Beach early in the morning to have breakfast. Normally our visits to Seal Beach are later in the afternoon and further down Main Street but not this time. This time we were closer to PCH and the Botanical Garden was open and we made a point of it to go inside & walk around. This is what makes Seal Beach so awesome; you do not find places like this anywhere else. Just being in Seal Beach feels like bring on vacation and being able to walk around a botanical garden was just icing on the cake. The botanical garden smelled so fresh, it was so colorful & the flowers were just eye catching. The staff working here were great and so helpful. We were headed from here to a day at the Beach otherwise we would of left with a car full of product for our garden at home. We will be back for sure. The prices were extremely reasonable based on what you would be paying at Home Depot. For all future needs garden related we will be coming here instead of supporting huge chain stores like Home Depot & Lowe's. read more

A wonderful place! This is like a little paradise you can come and immerge yourself in for a while to come out feeling rejuvenated just from strolling between all the gorgeous planties. I always end up going back home with a new plant or two that I couldn't resist buying. Sometimes I come by just to pet their cats. :) The downside is that it's pretty pricey, but then, what do you expect from a nursery on Seal Beach's main street? (The quality tends to be there though, so it's not unfair prices.) If you want to buy some really beautiful plants from time to time, or to go for a stroll and a casual impulse buy in a sunny day, this is the place. If you're redoing your whole garden and plan to buy a truckload of plants... then I recommend maybe going to a cheaper place, unless you have a lot of money, in which case supporting this lovely business would be great. :) I hope it will stay as lovely as it is, because it's really a treasure for Seal Beach to have this little corner of paradise in its main street. read more

I love Brita's! Great place to shop for native plants, as well as plants that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. With Brita's help, I attracted enough Monarchs, that laid eggs, which became caterpillars, which morphed into cocoons and then emerged as beautiful butterflies. You don't have to have a garden to appreciate this place of beauty. If you're tired of the usual, then you'll love how unique this nursery/garden is. Plenty of foliage and flowers to amuse. Succulents that won't disappoint. And I ask, who doesn't love a butterfly or two? Well worth the trip. I'm looking forward to heading back again for another visit. One of the smallest garden centers I frequent, Brita's is also one of my favorites. It's not the best idea to come on a summer weekend afternoon, as it's likely to be full of Seal Beach strollers. I prefer to come in the off season or during a week day. The aisles are tiny and usually packed to the limit. The last time I was there, they had an impressive hydrangea display - all different sizes and colors. The succulent selection is small but diverse - there are always at least a few to take home. I've had great luck so far with all the plants I've purchased there. Brita, the owner and name sake, can be found most days (if not all) tending to the plants wearing her signature large brimmed sun hat (duplicates of which are for sale at the front counter). She's a no nonsense, down to business gardener who is happy to provide advice for those who want to know more. Recently I needed a gift for a friend, so I swung by Brita's - I picked up a handful of succulents and she gladly potted them for me while I browsed through the rest of the nursery. The pot looked absolutely beautiful - better than any bouquet - and there was no extra charge for the service. It's always a pleasure to support local businesses, especially one like this. read more

I had two 12 foot planting beds to re-do and Brita whipped up a selection of plants for me along with a diagram of how to layout and tips on maintenance. The assortment looks absolutely beautiful! Lovely nursery! The older Caucasian man who runs this place is a gem! He is very informative and will give you helpful tips on gardening. He is a retired teacher with old school mannerism, so pay attention! The prices are very reasonable. He will also pot your plant if you would like for an additional fee. He sells pots that are made in Italy, what a nice touch! You can admire the garden from Nick's diner right next door! Also check out the antique shop at the rear of the garden. Enjoy! read more

I'm currently growing a baby cherimoya in a pot and I went to get mulch. The guy that worked there apparently didn't agree with me growing it gave and I felt like I he was scolding me for growing a baby tree in a pot. He gave me a " you're a dumbass look" and walked away! I love shopping in old towns but that's he last Time for me at Brita's. Even if I did something wrong there's a better approach to doing things. Such a garden snob! Brita's garden is a gem. A beauty mark on Main street with a resident cat or two. It is fantastic. To say its a breath of fresh air is putting it mildly . Need a break, take a stroll thru Brita's. It is refreshing. All of the plants and flowers are well cared for. The garden really does look like a garden more than a nursery. They have a lot of drought resistant plants and flowers. This is a good time to go as plenty of things are in bloom. Prices are reasonable too. There are wind chimes made from shells and artifacts that are natural looking for your garden patio or home. Even if you do not have a garden, you can find something here to bring the outside in. It is located next to Nick's Deli , so you can have a sandwich and look out at the garden. I noticed yesterday there is a small hair salon in a small out building in the rear ..awesome. Places like these are not designed they just happen and evolve. Love it. read more
