My daughter and I stopped by to pick up a kumquat tree while visiting a friend in the area. I asked a nice young man to direct me to the kumquat tree area and he was very kind in walking me to the location. He also showed me other fruit trees they had. The cashier encouraged me to sign up for their free membership program so my tree is warranted. Very nice place to get plants and plant supplies. Staff are helpful and efficient. I love this neighborhood nursery. Armstrong has lots of locations, and this is one of the smaller ones, but they have everything I need and very friendly and knowledgeable help. A friend gave me a tiny prayer plant in a little plastic pot and I enjoyed it for a number of months on my mantel. Then I realized it really needed to be repotted. It was growing and obviously didn't have room to spread. The original plant had about 4 or 5 leaves. Look at it now. Armstrong replanted it for me and gave me fertilizer that needs to be used every 6 (!) months. Also got the beautiful terracotta-colored shiny pot and saucer. This is my go-to place. In the past I bought most of the new plants for my garden here, and Armstrong delivered them. Love this place. read more

We love Armstrong Garden. This one is really big and they have everything and the people to help you. The place has free parking. The service is just great. Now, it can get a little crowded on the weekends, so we go during the week. We get more of our succulents there. We also love all their annuals. They are kept so nice and some are just lovely. They also have small trees, and whatever you might need to garden, from potting soil to all types of vitamins for your trees and flower beds. They have a really nice selection of milkweed, but be careful, if it is not native, it must be cut first and sterilized or you will end up killing your butterflies. They have great roses and we love their house plants. Almost everything you need is there. They even deliver. read more

I got locked in a garden center once...in my dreams. Some people dream of being locked in a candy or toy store, some Harvey Nichols or BevMo, but not me. I dream of garden centers. All alone just me and plants and flowers. Their blissful non-human quiet all peaceful side by side, uncaring about trivial or material things. Okay maybe water and food or fertilizer now and then, but that's it. Armstrong's is the tried a true garden center in the area. And yes, prices might be a bit higher than the orange or blue stores but the quality of the Armstrong's specimen is top notch. That extra dollar or two basically paid for someone else to grow the plant, but that's the beauty of it...you get to enjoy larger, healthier blooms and stronger more established foliage much sooner than you would with similar specimens from orange or blue. Not knocking the orange or blue stores, I frequent them too, I am after all what some would call a crazy plant lady. There's a time and a place for all types of garden centers, but on this day it happens to be Armstrong's because I wanted quality and availability, the ease of online ordering and expertly packed and protected plant life for the ride home. Now this location is much smaller than my local center, but it packs a punch. I was able to get ALL my Christmas plants and greenery here while my local Armstrong's had very limited quantities or none at all (talking about you Ice Crystals poinsettia!) This season Armstrong's has almost 10 types of poinsettias ranging in pots sizes from 4-14" including my favorite Ice Crystals. I typically finish my decorating with plants, but I've been a little slow on the process this year - which is okay with me because it feels less like rushing and more like enjoying the project coming together. The only downside about visiting the garden center as often as I do is the impact it has on my wallet. I'll plan to pick up a 1/2 a dozen of something but I'll see something else and this and that and I'll decide I need it all in obnoxious quantities. God bless the teams of people who manage all the beauties at the center. Keep doing what you do and I promise I'll keep blowing my budget to garden and fill my house with plants. read more

I was NOT going to make this review, but I just can't get over the experience that I received the very first time that I visited this location When I visit this location with my husband and daughter, the moment we walked in the lady with the brunette hair, white Caucasian lady, signal the African-American gentlemen who is very nice and kind, to keep an eye on us. When we finally went inside the nursery and asked her a question about what would be the best add-on fertilizer or product that we can add to a fruit trees, she stopped me halfway and said "the registers are over there" . I understand that my look is not to everyone's liking because I have tattoos or perhaps because I'm Hispanic , but there was no reason for her to make it so obvious that she was perhaps concerned that our intentions that we were not to buy anything, but in reality that day we did make a purchase. That didn't stop me from going back to this location because the 2nd to 3rd time everyone besides her has been very nice and kind and educated me on how to maintain my fruit trees , herbs and flowers year-round. The older gentleman was very sweet to my daughter and educated her on fruit tree. We are now a loyal customers and will continue to visit this beautiful location. Mellow and serene as a garden should be, IMHO. Walking through checking out the houseplants. Which is a corridor setting on the right front side of the center with full natural lighting and a variety of healthy and beautiful houseplants. It was a pleasant short stroll and I eyed something I just had to have. From there I went out the rear entrance where many trees and shrubs are it was just as peacefully pleasant and I was greeted and offered assistance. My stroll of the garden center culminated at the front left near the parking lot entrance where vriggt and bold blossoms were abundant. The cashier that checked me out was courteous and kind. There are no guarantees on any plants except trees and shrubs. Some items were pricier than other stores but I will still visit again Because their plants are gorgeous and some are fairly priced and worth the investment. read more

I stopped by this nursery on a whim, and it lifted my spirits just from browsing all the variety of luscious plants. Armstrong Garden is huge and sells plant pots, garden tools and necessities, and more. The staff was really friendly and showed me this beautiful string of turtles when she caught me looking at the trailing plants on the shelf. The pot was overflowing with the strings of turtles, and I was shocked to see how reasonably priced it was! I picked up a string of arrows too. See a pattern here? I would absolutely come back here for more on my next plant shopping spree. read more

I want to say, overall my yard looks nice... I could give a 5. But, several plants are infested with many white bugs. These plants were just planted approximately 2-3 weeks ago. At the time the plants were delivered , the person that designed my yard, saw several plants , as they were being removed from the truck , were not healthy and set them aside to return them and replace them. She took back a tree that was a little small because I wanted a little bigger tree. She said that the tree wasn't that healthy anyway. She replaced the tree and plants. I was outside in my yard last Thursday and I saw about 3 plants that were heavily infested. I text her and she asked me if I had a certain spray or a certain soap. I told her no I did not. I then said I believe the plants should be replaced because they were delivered infested and I should not have to fight this problem in a new garden... not even a month old. She said she needed to talk to her manager. I did not hear back. Then over the weekend I saw a rose bush that was just planted( as she was waiting for it to come in). It is so Infested...I wrote an email explaining how bad the infestation is. She has mon and Tuesday off so she responded this morning . She said they do not replace plants that have insect problems. She could direct me as to what to buy to treat them.... I am so upset. Very unhappy with this customer service. These are new plants that came on a truck that had plants that were infected. I would understand if the plants were a couple of months old; but new?!?! Now I understand why Armstrong requires full payment before they deliver the plants.... Because once they plant them, you're on your own... they take no responsibility for their sick plants. Most businesses request a deposit and when the job is finished, payment. Not Armstrong... they need their money before the job is started. I am so upset and angry too. At lease they should come and remove the sick plants to stop the infestation. This Armstrong Garden Center is probably one of the better locations, as it's located on a main Boulevard and the weather is perfect for growing any type of plant, due to the mild temperatures and available sunlight. I was looking for some trees , but it seems only flowing trees and plants were available. If you are looking for a special variety, Armstrong will special order the plant for you, if they normally carry the plant. read more

Social distancing was in place as well as everyone wearing their masks. I watched and oils smell the sanitation on each basket. Parking is free in a connected lot. A lot of varieties to choose from in plants, flowers, vases and gardening. They are priced above the market in my option on some things but they had great vase options. Customer service is average. The flowers and plants are very well kept. I love that they have a great reward system in place giving you points every dollar you spend for cool incentives in store. I would return and recommend. I'm to my plant limit but vases I will be back soon for. I love that at checkout they had a great social distance experience in boxes underway. read more

When the grass sod that I ordered wasn't complete when I went to pick it up, I drove to Armstrongs in Westchester. Not only were they ready for me, but Ralph had my order all ready to load into my car. I used to go there all the time, but there is another location more convenient for me. No longer. We've bought our Christmas trees here the last two years and have been very happy with the service. The selection wasn't too extensive when we looked the second weekend in December, but we found a Douglas fir that fit or size requirements. The tree was pretty fresh, looking nice and green and lasting well through the Christmas season. Service was excellent. Our tree was packed up and put in our car while we paid at the counter. Plus, when you bring your receipt and stand back during January, you receive your stand deposit back. Happy to have this wonderful nursery in my family's neighborhood. read more

I went with our kids and Ralph gave them a little botanical lesson smelling and touching different herbs, He also showed us a birds nest on the premise and was just so friendly and patient. I wanted to give this place my business, and actually, my first 2 visits were awesome. And it seemed that Nanciann, the assistant manager, was super knowledgeable and helpful. Which she WAS. On my first 2 visits ONLY. But after my experience there today, being completely disregarded and disrespected, I'll never go back there. Here's what happened: A few days ago, she helped me decide on a shade tree to purchase and took her time explaining the pros and cons of the different varieties. We also discussed having the tree delivered, and possibly planted by either the Armstrong folks or a 3rd party, which was going to take some discussion, investigation, coordination, etc. But as I was about to take step 1 and make the purchase, I realized I'd left my wallet at home. Tried to get back on the same day, but I couldn't make it. Tried calling to complete the deal by phone -twice- but the phone just rang and rang. OK. Whatever. So today I drove over, put on my mask and headed in. A nice fellow at the entrance greeted me and pointed me to Nanciann, helping a customer inside at the counter. So, I politely stationed myself outside where she could see me and waited for her to finish. She's very thorough, so this took awhile, 10-15 minutes and I had no problem with this, because when she's with you, she's focused 100% on you. The other cashier asked if she could help me, but I politely declined and told her I was waiting for Nanciann. When Nanciann finally finished with this lady, she headed my way and said she wouldn't be able to attend to me because she had a delivery truck outside and could she have someone else help me. Not my first choice, but I said "OK. But do you remember me? We were discussing the shade tree?" After assuring me that she did remember me, she then just appeared to head straight out to the truck. If she asked someone to help me, I never saw it. That would have involved gesturing my way, probably at least a word or two about what I was there for... you know. SOMETHING. So now I'm standing around for quite a long while and I finally went back inside and sat down on a patio sofa for -I dunno- 20 minutes? And despite getting a little heated about this breakdown in customer service, I stayed calm. Finally, I hear her voice getting nearer and she's discussing going to lunch. Maybe not for herself, I don't know. But I got up and made myself visible. Upon seeing that I was still there, she appeared a little perturbed and agreed to help me. I also let her know that I'd been waiting for her attention for a while and that no one had ever come to offer help after she said she'd have someone do so. So out we went to the area where this 12 foot tree sat in its wooden crate and she informed me of the price in the oddest way. As if I couldn't afford it. It was all in her tone. Like, look- I hate to say it but this tree is $350... are you sure you have the money? I ignored her manner and told her I wanted the tree, but that I'd made arrangements to have my own contractor plant it within a couple of days, and if they couldn't deliver, I would need to know. She told me to wait and she would see about the delivery. And so I waited and waited. And waited. And got heated and more heated. And when I finally went inside to find her, there she was again, at the cashier's counter, speaking with the other cashiers, not anything to do with our deal. And that was the last straw. And I have no plans to come back. Interesting side note: when I told her that I'd tried to call to get this squared away but I could never get an answer on the phone, her reply was amazing: it's a busy place, and if they're all helping people, they just let the phone ring. I guess they don't know how to say "excuse me one moment," answer the phone, put the caller on hold, and finish up. Or even take the call, determine if it's something that can be dealt with quickly and either give the needed info, or advise the caller to call back. Helluva way to run things. read more

I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped in one Sunday to check out their goods. Being a franchise shop, I didn't feel it was a "David"-type atmosphere. Wide selection of veggies, hanging plants, ground covers, succulents, trees (fruit and the non), annuals, and perennials. This local AGC had some imported hand painted ceramic pots from Mexico in the midst of their dozens of other ceramic, clay, and plastic pots/planters. The customer service at check out was just awesome - Lorraine and so was this person who took time to help me navigate their pots selection. Generally speaking, the folks at this location seemed pretty knowledgeable about plants. I can easily see them helping those wanting to re(design) their home or even commercial gardens. The variety is such that you have enough options to choose from if you wanted to go the colorful annuals route, a japanese garden, or a low-water route. Their selection of fruit trees was a bit slim but they did seem to have a good variety of orange and avo trees, veggies, and herbs at a quick glance. The small indoor shop houses a good menu of all the organic fertilizer, plant food, and accessories you might need to tend to your garden. It's a definite one-stop-shop sort of place with a nice-sized indoor plant area too. All in all, I did feel like I was taken good care of and left alone enough during my first visit at AGC. I agree with the others that the prices aren't maybe the cheapest int own but it looked like the quality was pretty good all around. And, they don't get tired of the umpteen questions you might have because they seem like they really love gardening and not just trying to sell. Oh, what's nice too is that at this AGC they had a huge section of half price pots! Sign up for their emails and receive info on their specials throughout the year. Don't have a green thumb? I stopped in to start the growing season and literally everyone I encountered was genuinely friendly, professional, and welcoming. It just stands out in this day and age to get this at a business. Nancy was the person I talked to the most. She apparently had just finished teaching a class, and I was sad to have missed it. However, she guided me through all of my questions about having a successful tomato season. She was SO knowledgeable. I mentally took down the dozen tips she gave me. She helped me hunt down all the plants I wanted. I promised that I would visit her in a few months to give her an update on how the plants are doing! During checkout, I was helped by Elke, who was just as nice and friendly. We were admiring what a beautiful sunny day it was. I am definitely going to go to this store more often. The plants offered here were better than at large home improvement stores. I've had more success with them here for sure. read more

First are foremost, Nancyann is the absolute worst employee at this location. That's saying a lot since Robert is a close second. Very low class, bad advice and poor knowledge of horticulture and gardening. There are always diseased plants at this location. Isn't anyone looking out for this? On a separate note. They have discontinued carrying EB Stone products. HUGE mistake! They now carry a brand to replace it that is sold at the dollar store!! How cheap is the CEO? Sounds like he is hoarding his pennies.
