I am a regular customer at this location. Today I purchased a large orchid plant to give to a dear friend as a gift (129.99) to be exact. After I paid, I noticed the leaves had water marks. I kindly asked the cashier if she had something like a paper towel to dust off the water marks on the leaves as I was going straight to my friend's home to deliver her gift. She told me to go to the "bathroom" and get a paper towel and wet it. She then walked away! Another young gentleman was behind the counter so I asked him for a piece of paper towel which was right there to begin with. That's what I used and I wiped the leaves as I stood at the counter. There was definitely a big lack of decent customer service. Very disappointing! read more

I have been to the locations in Sherman Oaks/North Hollywood and Glendale. Both have extensive selections of healthy plants at good prices, helpful staff, and more importantly stock more colors and varieties of general outdoor plants than I have been able to find at Home Depot. If HD sells 3 or 4 varieties of Mandevilla, Armstrong sells double that amount. They also sell smaller bags of soil for container plants, making it easier to lug up stairs to my decks. The Glendale location is particularly noteworthy. Highly recommended. read more

My neighborhood plant shop. I love coming here. I usually go early so I can enjoy having some quiet time with the plants, flowers and trees before the rush of the day. I came in here one day to get a fiddle leaf tree and I had a hard time deciding which one and one of the employees was super helpful and pretty much aligned all the trees I wanted to see up front. Every visit has always been a positive one. They can definitely get busy so I can see why people can leave negative reviews on here. Luckily I guess I've just had better experiences than most. read more

The gentleman at the register was so friendly and reassuring as he radio'd his coworkers for help, and let us know someone on their staff had volunteered to jumpstart our car and would be just a moment. That's when we met John, who rushed to grab his car and park it near us and successfully jumped our car, all in the blazing afternoon sun. I can not understand how they have people working here that have zero idea what they are doing. i went a few days ago and was very clear, i said that my flower boxes get 2-3 hours of afternoon sun and asked what flowers would work. the woman then proceeded or direct me to all the full sun flowers. i was confused and kept saying they only get 2-3 hours of afternoon sun how will that be enough for these flowers and she kept saying it would be just fine. so i pick a bunch of these full sun flowers against my intuition but i say to myself she works here she must know. when i go to pay i ask ANOTHER person if these flowers would be ok for only 2-3 hours sun as all the labels say full sun and she once again confirms it will be no issue. so today i spent 2 hours planting. as the sun came out the gazanias are still not opening and im thinking its been an hour of sun there will only be 1-2 more so if they havent opened yet...i then research all the flowers that TWO employees at Armstrong tell me will be just fine and every single one says 6-8 hours of full sun or they wont bloom and can easily develop disease like powdery mildew with too much shade. like WTF is wrong with the people who work here. so what was suppose to be a meditative and enjoyable experience has turned into anger frustration and a complete waste of time as now i need to remove them all and return them. do not trust the staff here to know ANYTHING. truly pathetic read more

I have been a customer of Armstrong for over 30 years in Santa Monica. On Saturday, my girlfriend and I came in and we were greeted by the most amazing and knowledgeable employee Paris. In Los Angeles it is extremely hard to find great customer service but to our surprise, we hit a home run with Paris. Her outstanding customer service for over an hour, helping us furnish a new townhome with several recommendations that went beyond anything I have seen in this crazy city. Paris is the most passionate person regarding horticulture and clearly loves what she does. Within hours of ordering several flowers, herbs, and plants we received outstanding delivery service. Paris turned basic generic outdoor spaces into personal garden oasis that changed the entire ambience of our home. The delivery service was outstanding as well. The two guys could not have been more patient and helpful and polite taking their time to make sure that we were happy with the placement of all of the items that were ordered. In today's world where customer service is clearly lacking Armstrong went over the top and excelled from start to finish. We cannot complement Paris and her outstanding customer service as well as are two delivery guys enough two words. We strongly recommend Armstrong and specifically Paris 's expertise with anything related to home and garden. read more

Terrible experience with their landscape design and planting services. Their communication was very poor and slow. I received plants that were different than expected. Payment was incredibly confusing and opaque and dealing with their 3rd party installer was a nightmare. One of the plants died, which they guaranatee, but I've been working on getting that replaced for weeks now and I can't get them to respond to an email or answer a phone call. Skeptical I will ever get that replaced or refunded. We'll see! read more

I should have asked for her name! But a nice woman with blonde hair was so very helpful today. I got ladybugs and praying mantis egg, and she was very excited for me and offered some tips and tricks and pleasant conversation about how cool praying mantis are. Then I left but remembered I wanted to get some catnip so I came back and she helped me again. She walked me up all the way over to exactly where the cat nip plants are. again she offered some advice and a personal story about how her cat loves them so much that she buys two so she can swap them out to recover from the cat attack without leaving the cat without its treat. Then after I had checked out again for the second time, she saw that I was on a bicycle and offered me anyway that she could to help me travel safely with my items. she got me a cardboard box and brought me some twine and some zip ties. Because she often carries things on her bike as well. She understood she was so sweet and so helpful and I just wanted to pass that positivity back to Armstrong's and to her. read more

Don't EVER use their pick and plant service. We were told they had a service where you select plants, and their landscaping team comes out and plants them and makes sure the irrigation lines are correctly placed. Well my plants died because they didn't even address the irrigation lines. After THREE WEEKS of harassing them to come back and replace them and fix the lines, they sent some third party (they contract out to pretty bad companies--ours was Robert Luna), who refused to touch the irrigation lines. Still fighting with Armstrong about a refund. read more

I fly to visit my daughter for Christmas every year, roughly a week before the Holy Day. Last year and this--last Monday--I wanted to bring her a plant in addition to the other gifts I brought. Since she lives in Santa Monica and Armstrong's was recommended, I went there. The first visit was distasteful because each time I asked for help I was told--rudely---"I'm busy." I thought, "Okay...Holiday season; it's a one-off." This year it was WORSE. I asked how much a plant cost--it wasn't marked---and he said, "I have a degree in horticulture not price-checking...let me get someone who does that sort of thing." I wanted to tell that grandson of George Washington Carver that I have an MBA and work in a private equity firm that I founded and my buy the chain just to fire him. I went to Armstrong yesterday because my pothos had mold and I didn't know what to do. I am not a plant person as it was gifted to me and when I called them they said for a small fee they could help diagnose it and repot it. The woman that helped me was so lovely and knowledgeable. I ended up buying the soil and a nice vase set to propagate some of the leaves. She helped me pick which stems to propagate and I am so grateful! read more

The team at Armstrong is helpful. However, there was one gentleman named Brian behind the cash wrap that was absolutely fantastic! He was knowledgeable, kind and helpful! He helped me with my exchange, he educated me on what I needed for my Azelea plant and when he reported my plant... let me tell you.. this guy was precise, gentle and really did a superb job. When he was done he turned around and said let me get you a cart, it's pretty heavy. This place should give Brian a raise. This is my first plant and this experience sparked my curiosity with gardening! Will definitely be back. Negative- there was an older lady who was yelling and asking why no one had gone to the bank for quarters while customers were in line and awkwardly avoiding eye contact with her. It's raining, the traffic is bad, etc. ARMSTRONG ON WILSHIRE: I walk in, frazzled to find an oasis of beautiful things and calm energy: plants, flowers, exquisite hand painted cards & gorgeous half-price holiday decorations, (a full 7 days before Christmas no less). Not to mention amazingly helpful staff. Gentleman in the plant section knew EVERYTHING about their new line of natural plant-pest controls. He was simply wonderful. This review is specific to service we received by Mike the Director of Landscaping Division at the Santa Monica Armstrong. We had started working on planning for transitioning to a drought tolerant landscape as we are all doing now to conserve water in SoCal and wanted to work with a local nursery offering planning, planting and expertise. Our project ran into delays out of Mike's control. He communicated with us directly in a timely manner, offered options and truly wanted the best solution for us. That extra mile that was shown to us in his desire to make things right was what made a potentially bad experience into a good one.
