I'm surprised there aren't more reviews of this great place. I would recommend that visitors to Arnold check it out, for the free popcorn, if nothing else! There's the practical stuff, like firewood, paint, tools, key making. Then there's fun stuff like mountain home decor, souvenirs, and gifts. The staff is always helpful. Think twice before purchasing floor models. I purchased a floor model xmas tree December 2017. It was all lit up and working properly the last we saw it. They dismantled it and we picked it up a day later. When I took it out this year to set up for Christmas, less than half of the lights worked. When I looked close, I saw that at least one wire had become dislodged from a light socket, I assume during the process of taking it down and packing it up. I called to see if I could exchange, or even just get the price I payed credited towards a new tree. I was told no, all sales are final, which I can see if I wanted my money back. I guess I was supposed to take it out and set it up as soon as I brought it home because as I was told, they don't know what I could have done to the tree over the past 11 months. Way to accuse your customer of being dishonest. They did offer to give me some free lights I could just throw on there, I will give them credit for that. However, the reason I bought a pre-lit tree was so I did not have to do that. So, I wasted $200 on a tree that to me is useless. It would have been inconvenient for me to drive the 200 miles round trip to exchange it, but I was willing to do it to give them the chance to do the right thing. Lesson learned, better off buying one from Costco! read more

WINDOW SCREEN REPLACEMENT - I brought a window screen in for repair, and when I went to pick it up I noticed that it had been repaired incorrectly and also the tabs to hold it in place were missing. I left it to be redone. when I went back to pick up the screen, I was told that it had been lost. I went home and told my wife. she called Ace to find out what was going on - after being transferred 3 times, a man advised her that he had just come back from lunch, and knew nothing about a lost screen. He continued saying that the guy who repairs screens for ACE does so off premises and had no telephone. I asked him to research it and get back to me. He called back and said the screen had been found along with tabs in the guy's repair shop and ready. Post two unnecessary trips and one month later! read more

Every time we come to Arnold we have to make a trip to the Ace. Not only are they pet friendly, they always have something we just have to have. Sometimes it's killer bloody mary mix, other times its a funky snow hat for our daughter. This place is great both for finding toilet seats and treasures. Well worth a stop. read more

Friendly staff (and great staff dogs) greet you as soon as you come in. The staff answer all questions and will walk you through the most basic or complex home improvement projects. They also have a lot of great knowledge about sprays to use for particular pests and how to treat a septic system with care. There's also a fresh popcorn machine going for the kiddies and fun home decorations stuff to pick up with whatever hardware you are getting. read more

I've been going to this Ace for nearly 30 years. I can go to Home Depot or Lowes in the Bay Area before I come up here, but I prefer supporting the local economy when I spend time at this home. I don't know what has happened to this store, but the employees get ruder and ruder. I'll still support the local economy, but in the future I'll drive down to the Red Store or take a trip into Angels Camp before I spend another dime in this store. read more

The folks who work at Ace are very helpful and really know hardware. My son loves the free popcorn and the clerks call him the "popcorn boy". The store reminds me of the local hardware store that my grandpa used to take me to when I was a kid. They have a little of everything and I can usually find what I need to fix just about anything that breaks at my cabin. read more

This store is the only one around, so what else are you gonna do? There used to be a TrueValue in town, but Ace must have put them out of business. The prices at Ace seem to have shot up when TrueValue closed. As it is, prices are higher than other Ace's, so they seem to be taking advantage of the "rural" location. (Hey, gas in Arnold is cheaper than Stockton, so that's no excuse). For example, I paid $2.79 for a package of 4 table leg bottoms in the Bay area - the same package was $3.99 in Arnold. Hmmm. At my last visit, I bought a container of plant food, and when I got home, found it had been opened and only a third remained. It was likely a return, but people, you need to check these things before just putting them back on the shelf for some other sucker to buy. I gave 2 stars because the vast majority of the staff are very friendly, although the garden employee was close to rude when I bought my 2/3 useless product. As for advice over the years, very spotty - you better be sure what product you want. read more

I have been going to ace for years since I was a kid and have been her full time over 10 years never had a hard time with the old owners and never has been told that they have a problem with me not big things they ask me little things not a big deal and I'm not bothered about it at all I'm understanding of there side and do as they asked over all but I'm upset with the owner and so I went hear just like other people have and was told to leave the store because I wouldn't talk to him when he want me that I'm not welcome there the out house or the lumber yard it all was because there dog went after my Ada service dog and know I'm the problem no I'm upset that my Ada dog was put in this position and know I'm the problem there is other people that has had problems with the dog has snapped at other dogs I'm not the first upset owned and will not be the last one I was told to take my old post down or I will not be able to come to the store I did but will not be bullied by the owner so I redid my Post . yes the dog snapped two times and yes I took the dog to the vet and yes there was no skin broken thank god I will go to angels camp ace for know on take you dog there and you will see .
