Came here for Saturday buffet and the quality of the food was atrocious. The paratha and Puri had a texture similar to rubber that was almost impossible to bite through. The extremely limited vegetarian options (I'm talking one to two curries, one to two types of rices) wasn't even the worst of it. Almost all the Curries and entrees were borderline freezing cold. I genuinely didn't want to finish my meal because of how poorly it was made. In addition, the smugness of those serving us alongside with a sign at the front with the ridiculous request of "do not waste food. Maximum wait time of 40 minutes" shows that they think their average customer is beyond incompetent. I had received decent recommendations from others but clearly they were very wrong. Would highly recommend that people stay away from this awful restaurant until they fix up their restaurant. read more

We ordered Mysore Masala Dosa & Masala Dosa. It was sooo Delicious. We experienced The Best Taste among all the restaurant we ever visited in USA. Great addition to the town. The old owners failed and the new one has found what it makes to tick the town. The buffet is great, the variety was good food is authentic in taste, however toned down on spice as all have to like it. True to it's name, you can smell the aroma wafting in from outside. Went in for an authentic Indian meal and they delivered. We ordered biryani, butter chicken, coconut sauce chicken and chicken 65. Would highly recommend it. The parotta is flaky and delicious and the quantity was large (we brought home more leftovers than we ate). read more

The weekend buffet is so good! I'm a vegetarian and had a lot of choices, it was all Kerala style of course. Their sambar and kappa curry is so delicious. Finish the lunch with ada payasam, it tasted so so so good will definitely come here again! read more

Got take out with my girlfriend food was all delicious and the servings were big unlike most Indian places I go to. She got salmon tikka misala and I got the chicken tikka misala we also got the garlic naan and onion naan both delicious. My gf and I will deff be going to the buffet read more

I mean 3.5 stars really. First time here - in a group including vegetarians like myself. We got there a bit after 12pm on Sat for the buffet and quite a few tables were still open. It is a relatively compact place and filled up quickly. They are BYOB but won't allow wine with lunch....presumably to keep tables turning over quickly. They said they would allow BYOB for dinner. Fair enough...their rules I guess. On the face of it, the pickings for vegetarians seem slimmer but when you look through, actually there's a decent selection. However, they did a poor job with labeling. Names of items were hand written with no 'V' or any icon for vegetarian/vegan. I called the waiter twice to confirm if an item was veggie - and in both cases they turned out not to be. Even though there weren't that many patrons at that time, the waiter preferred to fiddle with his phone rather than point out the veggie dishes which I was clearly looking for. A few others from my group also struggled with that and probably missed trying some items as they just couldn't tell from the label if it was veggie or not. All that said, number of items from Kerala which you don't find in a usual buffet spread makes this interesting. You will find the usual paneer sort of stuff as well. The dessert selection also had a heavy Kerala flavor. The odd mix of China, styrofoam, steel forks, plastic spoons and plastic water cups is jarring. Clearly they don't particularly care about that aspect in a high turnover buffet scenario. The masala chai to wrap things up is a nice touch. All in all, we will be back I think. read more

Have been a loyal client of Aroma Restaurant for at least 15 years through their many moves, both inhouse dining and catering. Caution when you place a catering order... First time, for my daughter's wedding they delayed delivery and would not even pick up the phone as guests were milling in. Luckily we had backup appetizers. Second time, for a party we show up to pick up food and they had nothing prepared, and had dropped the ball completely. If order is not placed at least 3 or 4 days in advance they sometimes refuse saying they have too many orders to fill. This has taught us a lesson. We place the order 3 or 4 days in advance, sometimes even a week ahead.. this time gave all the information including day of week, date and time. The person taking the order transcribed all the information including the phone number incorrectly. You guessed it. No food. Moreover, staff has a tendency to go on the offensive, after being sloppy in taking an order. They claimed they were angry at us for being a no-show on the wrong day they prepared the food and supposedly tried to contact us on the wrong phone number they took down. The person on the phone claimed the kitchen staff was so angry they refused to make up for his mistake. So be forewarned, If you have guests, always safe to have pizza as a backup. read more

Oh my god -- the worst. I ordered food from this "business" through Grubhub at 6:30 this evening. Come 8:30, the food was still undelivered. That is a bad thing in itself, but it was compounded by the fact that the restaurant's phone number was "busy" for the duration of their tardiness. 8:51 now. I'm starving. Grubhub has finally cancelled the order -- THEY pick up the phone. I'm left hungry and waiting for my monies to be refunded to my account. This is not the first review of its kind I have seen posted of this restaurant. This is no way to run a business. If this is anything other than an aberration, I sincerely hope they don't remain in business long. They have no business hawking their wares on Grubhub, that's for sure. I wish I could tell you about their distinctive Kerala cuisine, but alas, though I paid to sample it, I was not afforded the opportunity. Either go in person or order online from someplace else: Arusuvai, for example. Aroma was less expensive. But sometimes you get what you pay for by not getting what you pay for. I ordered take out couple of times, I shouldn't have ordered the second time but based on the reviews I thought it was their off day & give them a chance, my bad. chicken biryani was awful, looked like they took chicken curry and mixed with rice and called it biryani. Fish curry was nothing but boiled fish in pepper water with salt. If they had negative stars I would gladly rate this a 5 negative stars. Aroma's Tikka Masala, Saag, and Vindaloo dishes are the best I've had. An outstanding Indian option in the DC area.

First try. Food very good. Shared a masala dosa as an appetizer. Delicious and would almost have been enough for an entree, certainly plenty for lunch. Then we had Malabar chicken curry and guthi vankara for our entrees. Were very happy with our choices.I find that at many Indian restaurants they spice everything the same, so nothing tastes distinct. Each item had its own character. The pricing was extremely reasonable. We also brought home a chicken entree and Naan bread and our total without tip was under 50 bucks. Service a bit slow. They need to up the staff on the weekend. I saw a couple enter while the only server was in the kitchen and after waiting two minutes without seeing any staff, they walked out. Do not go there unless you want to fight off tens of fruit flies & normal flies while eating. There were more flies than people in this place! Definitely don't go by the bathrooms as it's a fruit fly mating ground over there (felt physically ill while being there). I will rate for following: Food, service, price and pick up time. We ordered indochinese food for the first time. It wasn't as good as the regular Indian food served. Boiled rice and fried rice had cardamom in it. Service was just okay. Price for ordering four items was 52 dollars. A little expensive as compare to surrounding eateries. Food had so much oil and salt. Pick up time was 35-45 mins which is a lot of time. read more

Awesome food very fresh. Very friendly and helpful staff. I'm Spanish and have not eaten many times at Indian restaurants but love spicy food. Definitely one of the best I've had. Given the hot & new Yelp status, I was excited to try Aroma out. I ordered takeout and the restaurant is nice. Looks like they have a big lunch buffet. We ordered garlic naan, chicken tikka masala and shrimp saag. Unfortunately the food was a letdown. The chicken tikka had good flavor but we could barely find the chicken. There were a few tiny pieces in a boat load of sauce. The saag was uninspired and had 3 shrimp. If you want dishes with a lot of sauce and no meat then this is the place for you. read more

This is unbelievable but funny as well. I'll try to make a long story short. On Saturday night, my wife and I brought wine. The waitress (who was cheerful and polite) brought the bottle to the kitchen to open it. (They did have a corkscrew but there was a problem removing the foil). After a really long time, I heard some loud discussion so I got up to see what the problem was. Looking through the kitchen door window, I saw this guy trying to bite the foil off the bottle--Yes--bite it!!! When I objected, he said he was sorry but that it wasn't going to kill me. I said: "You're going to argue with me now?" And he proceeded to argue. I guess he wanted the last word. My wife and I left, not only because we were angry but because he was angry and we feared he might spit in our food or something. So the moral of the story is if you bring wine to this place, open it yourself. Or go to Pooja down the road. I'm sorry this happened as I don't like to get angry and as I heard some good things about this place. I wish the guy I argued with well. Anyway, now I have a funny story to tell. read more
