He was a bully and tried to overcharge me for add-ons to the project . I explained initially that I would not add additional work but would consider changing my mind later. It was decided to proceed to add-on to my project. A change order was requested and he replied it was not needed and that we will settle at the end of the project. I stated yes, at cost and hours. He agreed. He was emailed restating the contract signed clearly stating any additional work would be billed by cost of materials plus $188 hourly for labor. The invoice sent was his regular contract price and much higher than the quoted rate. At this point I requested an itemized invoice with receipts and noted that I tracked hours spent on the extra work. He waited a week to reply then called me with a threat to take me to court! I reminded him his contract stated hours and actual costs. He complained he couldn't make any profit from that and he had the best prices around. A number of receipts for materials were sent to me but included wood and other parts already paid for and hours way over what was actually spent completing the work. I emailed my summary of parts and hours for the work. He finally agreed to accept the terms of the contract . His contractors did do a good job on my retaining wall. It was unfortunate that in his quest for profit, he lost a good customer. read more

Aron and his capable crew built two retaining walls and did some driveway repair for us this past summer. One of the retaining walls was a difficult installation of designer-concrete wall blocks along a driveway -- difficult because of the steep slope and length of the driveway. The crew knew what they were doing, and they performed their work with a lot of care to make sure they were doing the installation the right way. I know -- I watched them every day. The other wall was a more traditional wooden wall next to our garage, but it also had its challenges because it was built along a very steep hillside requiring a lot of soil removal. They also flattened the ground between the garage and wall and laid down some crushed rock with adhesive material mixed in to create a semi-hard surface that has improved that area 1000%. The driveway repair was needed to fill in some rather large gaps that had formed between concrete pads that had moved over time. The result is a smooth driveway surface that has made departure and arrival much easier not only for us but for delivery vehicles and other visitors. From selection and ordering of materials to final completion, Aron was always there for us. He made us feel like we were his most important customer. Jorge, the foreman of the crew, was also always available with ideas and anything else that we requested. Everyone involved was respectful of our property and people. Aron's crew removed an existing two level deck and built a new two level deck on a hillside. We changed portions of the deck from an older cantilever version - to one with footings and posts. Aron's bid was the most detailed and his pricing was similar to other bids. We went with Aron because he seemed more direct and upfront in his communication and he had built a beautiful deck for a neighbor. In the end we got a wonderful looking and super "solid" deck that will last. The footings, beams, etc... seemed "overbuilt" and I have no doubt that this deck is structurally sound. Aron's crew had to deal with rain and some bad weather, which caused delays and some issues - but Aron kept us informed. There were a few minor mistakes - mostly regarding some stucco "dripping" and cosmetic details. But these were corrected in the end and I was very pleased with the final results. Like many construction sites, it did get a bit messy at times, and workers put supplies and walked through my neighbors property. Fortunately, my neighbors were understanding. I would use Aron again and highly recommend him - as he is fair, reliable, and builds a quality product. I trusted Aron and his main foreman Jorge. At times the details weren't exactly clear to me, but Aron and Jorge answered my questions - and in the end - we got a great deck. Aron is not the "bargain - cut corners" option. ***** Worth EVERY Penny ***** We recently moved into a 1960's home in Concord that came with an old, rotting fence. In fact, shortly after we moved in, part of a shared neighbor fence fell down. We have a large backyard which backs-up to a noisy, major street. The sides of our backyard are shared with three separate neighbors. We were looking for someone who would do quality work, while respecting our neighbors' property. We also wanted a team who would do their best to keep the area safe and contained for our neighbor's small dogs. I had three companies come out and give us estimates. Aron told me upfront his estimate would probably be the most expensive - and it was. However, we chose to work with Aron Ambrus Construction, as he was so responsive, and confidently promised the highest quality. He and his team delivered. Jorge was the foreman on our job. He is an incredibly lovely man. Jorge told me, "I make the best fences." Jorge doesn't lie. He ensured that every post was embedded not the standard 2 ft., per code - but to 3 ft. (which, by the way, I've heard some companies don't even bother to embed the posts to code). The cement at the base of each post was rounded-off, so over time, water will not pool and deteriorate the post. Every portion of the fence was built perfectly level, which, in our yard, involved creating several steps in the fence. Aron and Jorge came up with a plan to attractively raise the height of the fence, despite the existing cinder block posts, located off of the main street. They built a large, easy to open, spring-loaded gate, which opens out, to code, due to the existence of a pool in our backyard. Jorge and the team used screws at the midpoint of each board, so as the fence settles over the years, no gaps will appear. While working on our job, Jorge and the team were respectful of our neighbors' property. They worked mostly on our side, and made sure they left no dirt or debris in the neighbors' yards before closing up the fence(s). In fact, Jorge somehow even managed to speak with every neighbor. He answered questions, and set proper expectations. Aron checked in with me every day, either here at the site in person or by text. He was open to (and thankful for) any feedback. Jorge was also open to feedback, and even asked me several times which option I would prefer on certain aspects of the fence, to ensure we were all on the same page. I am confident our new fence will last for many, many years. The only thing I'm kind of bummed about is I no longer get to see Jorge's smiling face each morning. Aron is the owner of the company and his crew did a thorough and wonderful job replacing our side yard fence which had been falling apart over the last couple of years. Aron's bid was not the cheapest. After the frustration accumulated with the other company we initially chose, we came back to Aron simply wanting to work with someone who is more willing to communicate. Aron is very polite and super responsive. He promptly responded to every single text and email I sent to him. He asked his crew to check with me often to make sure the work was done according to the way we desired. He also came to the site frequently to check on the progress. The new fence posts were set on 3 to 4 feet deep of concrete bases. Upon our request, a few posts are extra long so that they can give more support to the vines that had grown really tall. We opted the board-on-board style of the fence with a piano key style of the lattice at the top. They also pre-stained the boards for us before the installation. Most of the screws/nails were put in from the outer side (facing a tall wall from a storage unit) to maintain a cleaner look from the inside. The crew members (Manuel, Oscar, Edwardo) worked very hard everyday. During the entire project, they took great care of protecting and supporting our plants that grow right against the fence, which I really appreciated. The plants remained intact throughout the project. After the fence was finished, they even helped me tie the plants to the new posts. After each day of work, they cleaned up the site very well. The new fence is very sturdy and looks really beautiful. Aron and his crew are just very nice skilled people who do great quality work.
