Itsa New York style, with nice crust (mamma she say dhey use the right pan!) dhe right cheese, not that cheep stuff other places use, and the toppings are good....'cept for that sausage - that no go, that look like rabbit turds. Love this place. It's become one of my go to places for lunch and dinner. Service is really fantastic. Seems to be family owned. But, even the other workers are good. Food is very good. Arpeggio Grill, oh how you satisfied the craving. I didn't know what I wanted, but I knew it should be tangy and high in fiber. But why all the confusion? The food was doing double duty for the problems we had with the service. We had the Vegetarian Mesa platter and the Arpeggio Mesa platter. Both were tasty and portions were good for a couple of hungry guys. I don't know Mediterranean food like I know tex-mex and some other types of food, but I know when it tastes good. If I hadn't had my friend with me to tell that we were missing things I wouldn't have noticed, mostly because there was more food than I should have eaten on my plate. This restaurant is jammed into a spooky little strip mall for dining at night. The sign on the roof says simply "Mediterranean Food," and the inside is in need of an update. The sign inside said please wait to be seated, but nobody was there to seat us. We were told that we should approach the counter for service. Our server wasn't really a server, and didn't really know how to fix the things that were wrong, simple as they were. The only saving grace was the food and the friendly people who worked there. I've been coming to this restaurant for years and the food is always so great! My favorites are the chicken shawarma plate, lemon chicken soup, and any of their pizzas! Everything is very fresh and good portions. The staff is always friendly and speedy. The ONLY thing I think needs improvement is their pita bread - it's a little tough to eat. The crew at my new office recently recommended this sweet little Middle-Eastern gem to me and I've been eating here for 5 days straight! Don't let the outside fool you, becuase the little strip center that it's housed in looks like a total dump from the outside. Once you step in though, the owner has done a really awesome job of giving this place some great atmosphere. Is that Lawrence of Arabia in the corner Hookah lounge area? Anyway, the schawerma plate here is one of the best in Austin. Hands down! They don't go light on the portions too. Get ready to walk out feeling like you have a camel hump for a belly! Awesome... researched this thoroughly last Saturday and I loved it! Can't wait to go back for the lunch buffet! Didn't seem as Greek to me as described. More general mediterranean with a strong Indian influence. Location from the outside is yuck. Totally yucky. Open the door and you're transported; the smell, the look, the vibe, it's all there. Beautiful area for sitting on the floor with lovely, comfy pillows to surround yourself by. Wonderful. And yes, hookahs but not in use. Next door is a hookah bar but I didn't check it out. The food... whoa. Blew our minds. Mind you only two of us. We apparently miscounted how many of us there were because we did order waaaay too much! Our order included a full plate of Dolma with the best tzatiki sauce or cucumber sauce every, the Arpeggio platter to try everything you think of when you think mediterranian food, one mixed order of various shish kebabs and we wrapped up with a lovely little baklava. Everything was marvelous. Wish we could have tried mroe. A lovely couple next to us had ordered a pizza, that seems to be a big thing at this place. And by "big" I mean both popular and they offer a 36 inch pizza!!! The woman next to me said hers was wonderful. Only thing I didn't care for was the hummus. This little gem is close to my son's place, and I consider that a stroke of good luck! It's a very nice mix - casual, if you'd like, yet as much atmosphere as you would want for a low-key date. Lots of the unexpected: - Our waiter was A+ ! We felt just as special and high-class in his treatment of us as we might at a much more expensive restaurant - If you're not open to something new, by all means, sit at a conventional table - - and go to a counselor!! Otherwise, unless you have bad knees, sit at one of the lovely low-tabled pillow-spots - so much atmosphere, it'll make your lunch or dinner special. - My meat-eating son thoroughly enjoyed the food, as did I. He shared my vegetarian entrees, and loved them. Now that's a deal-maker, where I'm concerned! Got a lot of food for just a little money. This place has generous portions and really good tasting gyros. I love how the meat is always slightly crispy on the edges, but moist at the same time. It's great! The hummus is really good too, but unfortunately the pita bread that comes with it is not. It's different than the pita bread they use for the gyro, which is always soft and fluffy, while this one is flat and cardboard-like. If you eat here, make sure to try the Baklava...it's pretty freakin' great! They have 2 different kinds. A cream filled one (with a hint of lavender) and a nut filled one. I usually order the Arpeggio Platter to get a bit of everything. Not one item on the plate disappoints. I especially like the baba ghanoush, which is very authentic. I love the falafel...it is supposed to be crunchy on the outside! It is soft and warm on the inside; perfectly spiced. The gyro meat is excellent, and the chicken schwarma is really tasty. The pita bread is traditional and as it should be; soft and thick (not the 'pita bread' you will find at the grocery store). I have yet to try the pizza because I always want the other items. And I live south, so I can't get there every day like I would like! I haven't been for lunch, just dinner. The prices are SO reasonable...I couldn't believe it when I first went there. I usually order a dozen dolma to go; and often falafel too for sandwiches the rest of the week. The service is really warm and genuine, like you are visiting someone's home in the Middle East. I found this place a few months ago when I came to Austin to find an apartment. I was staying at a hotel nearby and this came up on Yelp with good reviews. On my first trip, I found out why. The place has plenty of parking and upon entering you will be greeted by super friendly staff that stay that way from the moment you arrive, to the moment you leave. The decor is very nicely done in my opinion. Not what you might expect from the outside I would say. The times I have been here the place has not been overly packed so it is fairly a quiet place. Perfect for groups, couples or alone. A gyro and an order of 6 falafels will only set you back $10 and fill you up plenty! The first time I went, I ordered a gyro, hummus and falafel. I dined in. Everything came out delicious! The service was good. I was checked on enough, but not bothered or felt neglected. The gyro had fresh ingredients and very tasty, well seasoned meat. Plenty of fresh veggies and a flavorful tzatziki sauce on the side, which is good because some places don't enough or too much. The waiter offered a variety of them as well, such as garlic and a spicy one so I could try with my falafels. I ended up loving both. The hummus was very good, but I won't say it stood out as anything beyond good. Great, fresh pita bread with just the right amount of chewiness to softness. Falafels were good as well with enough spices in them that they are not bland like those from Greek Original Gyros. I have yet to try other stuff, but if they prepare everything like the few things I've already tried, I am sure I might enjoy the rest. They do offer some huge pizza pies that I am very anxious to try out if I ever make enough friends here in Austin so that I can share one. Awesome place. If you happen to only find the food ok, you will at least be very happy with the service. The staff you interact with might be very young, but they are super polite young men that want you to be happy and come back. Wow. Just . . . wow. I am impressed. The food is great and the prices are insane, especially for the amount of food you get. The falafel was fantastic, each piece fairly big, and I can't believe it's only $2.99 for a half dozen. I got the mixed kebab plate with beef, chicken, and some kind of ground meat roll. It came with basmati rice, Greek salad, and pita. All that for only $10. I also split the creamy baklava with my friend (baklava with baked custard added to the inside) and that was also very tasty. Highly recommended. I've heard their pizza is pretty good, can't wait to try it. Edit: I was so happy with the food that I forgot how bad the service was. It really was pretty bad. First time I had their pizza was during a corporate meeting. Although many people complained that they put way too much garlic in everything, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This prompted me to want to visit their location and try some other things. I had their gyros, and they were 'ok'. I think my experience at the restaurant made the food not taste as good. 1) Definitely not child friendly. 2) a bit strange. I love this place! The owner/manager/father figure is always incredibly gracious and the young guys who work there are absolutely charming. The service is excellent despite the ambiguity of the system. (Do we pay now or later? Are you going to bring me my gyro? What if I want dessert?) I always get the vegetarian lunch special with a huge Greek salad, warm, crispy falafel and giant helpings of fattoush and baba aganoush. It's THE BEST baba ganoush I've ever had. As a self-proclaimed condiment junkie, it warms my heart (and my tongue) that they have a huge selection of self-serve condiments including a thick tahini sauce, fresh green hot sauce, and some really HOT jalapeno relish. Bring on the Rolaids! My one and only complaint is that their pita bread is a little flat and chewy for my liking and it gets cold quickly. I was really looking forward to going here as suggested by our family & friends. We went with a big group, about 12 of us and 4 kids. My kids were really thirsty when we got there and my husband asked one of the young men(one of the owners, no less) for a glass of water. He rudely replied, saying "No, you have to sit at your table and your server will give you what you need." The food is pretty tasty. And their fresh baklava is the best I've had in town- so flaky yet dripping with honey. So why the 2 stars? Because of the blatant DISCRIMINATION I've experienced each time I've eaten there. I'll order and sit down to wait. 15 minutes later, other people come in, who they must be friends with, order, and get their order in 5 minutes. And here I'm still waiting. I twiddle my thumbs and after 10-20 more minutes pass, I get my order. This has happened EVERY TIME. Even when business is slow. They don't even try to hide it, it's so ridiculous. Maybe because they know their food is good and people will come back no matter what, but I still think this is unacceptable. I was in the mood for something pizza-ish, but nothing run of the mill and when I saw how close this was to my house, I decided to give this a try. I had heard some things about how the service wasn't all that great, but I got some of the friendliest service and nicest smiles I had gotten in a long time at a restaurant from the girl working the counter. So no complaints there. I had already pre-decided upon trying out their greek pizza, as I had heard so much good stuff about it and I was not denied. Although the toppings are pretty normal for this sort of thing, olives, mushrooms, etc....they were all incredibly fresh and tasty. The gyro meat on it was a delight as well. In my experience, gyro meat often gets overcooked but this was just perfect and tender and juice sqooshing in the mouth and mmm. I can't help but wonder though how come no body seems to make a souvlaki pizza? With that great sauce cooked on a pita-bread type base. Oh man that would rock socks. The only complaint I really had was how long it took. I was the only customer and it still took quite awhile to get my food. It would be nice if they had a wi-fi signal so I wouldn't care quite so much that the food took that long. Happy to have discovered a good place for Greek food. Went to this place for the first time this weekend for lunch and was fairly impressed. They have a good lunch deal where you get one meat, salad and three sides for like $8. All of the food was pretty good - I had the gyro meat and liked it a lot, and I was pleased with their vegetables as well. The staff were very friendly and the interior ambiance is pretty cute - low lighting, murals on the walls, and an "adults only" seating area with fun floor cushions. It was also pretty empty when I was there, so there was no line to wait in for the lunch special. If you want, you can also order their regular menu items, and apparently they make pizza and wings too (sort of a weird mix of stuff, but it seems like it works for them based on the positive reviews I'm seeing of their pizza). The location isn't super convenient for me to go on a regular basis, but I would definitely visit again. read more

Only been here once and it has topped the chart for my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in Austin. 1. The Food I had been craving gyro meat like an insatiable beast for weeks, literally thinking about it before bed at night. I ordered the gyro salad - giant plate of fresh lettuce mix, sliced tomatoes, cucumber, green bell pepper, red onion, chunks of feta and of course, piled high with a hefty portion of their tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned thin-cut gyro meat. Served with Greek vinaigrette, thick tzatziki sauce and warm pita. God, I died inside. It was so wonderful. The tzatziki is out of this world. And the portion is ginormous for so cheap. My fiance ordered the Lamb Shank served with Basmati rice, side Greek salad and pita. Again, we died inside it was so amazing. The meat was falling off the bone and full of great slow-roasted flavor. Another huge portion of food for a great price. 2. The Ambiance As soon as you walk in the door, you instantly feel the Mediterranean vibe. The staff is so welcoming and friendly, and the restaurant decor reflects the cuisine. Walls are painted like buildings in the Mediterranean, and they have a seated section on the floor with big rugs and comfy pillows. We of course sat here to better experience the cuisine, but you can also smoke Hookah as well. It's important to note that this place is strict Halal, meaning there is no alcohol (as well as a plethora of other things). Part of me was a little sad I couldn't enjoy my meal with a glass of wine, but honestly the food is too damn good to care about anything else. Also, all the food is cooked to order so although it takes a bit longer, it is so so worth the wait for that freshness. I live about 5 minutes from Arpeggio, so I go pretty frequently - a couple of times a month. The Good: - Cheap, delicious food. I particularly recommend the Mesa Platters (regular and vegetarian), the Chicken Shawerma, and the Arpeggio Pizza. One entree ($8-11) is usually more than enough for me and my boyfriend. - Friendly, courteous staff. - If you call in an order for pickup, they usually can have it ready in 5-15 minutes. Super convenient. The Bad: - Service for dine-in can be slooooow. A meal with my parents once took 2 hours from beginning to end. I'm not kidding. We ordered an appetizer and 3 entrees. It was about 4:30pm on a Sunday, so it wasn't crowded, and there was no wait to sit down. That's the worst it's been, but in general, I wouldn't recommend this place for sit-down if you have somewhere to be immediately after. - About half the time, when I place an order for to-go, they leave something out. Usually it's the tzatziki sauce. - Delivery times vary widely. I've called in orders for delivery twice - the first time, it took about 45 minutes, the second time it took an hour and a half. Ok. Matter of time before this restaurant spins out of control and has wait lines around the corner. The food -- wow! Fresh, delicious, home-made... consistently high quality every time. I can't believe how inexpensive it is. My roasted chicken plate was $11 and it's enough to feed me for a day. The staff -- some of the most professional I have ever encountered. Pleasant, polite, patient, attentive... you literally feel delighted with how you're treated as a customer. The vibe -- super chill. This is a review of their lunch special. It comes in solidly in the "Cheap" category and every solitary dollar is well spent. It consists of a Greek Salad, Three veggie sides (your choice of about a dozen, including a garlicy baba ghanouj, soft and tasty dolmas, flavorful basmathi rice, tabouli salad, stewed veggies and some soups), and your choice of three meats: You Guessed it! Lamb Gyro (solid), Chicken Shwerma and Beef Shwerma (tasty but a tad dry). If one of the choices were juicy beef kabob and the dolmas were a tad bit firmer, this would be my first five star cheap lunch rating. The salad is made to order and as-you like it. The veggies taste very fresh and the Greek Dressing is very good. Included in the price of the lunch special is a beverage and the hot tea is highly recommended. At this point, you and your partner have only spent about $18. Start boxing the remains up for dinner, refill on your tea and order a slice of their big baklava to share. The big one is a special home made recipe filled with a lite cream. It is delightful! There is a complexity of flavor which will make any other dessert over $2 blush. This comment is purely on takeout. I haven't had a meal in their dining room yet, though I will tell you that it is very ample space. If you're thinking about having a large party for dinner this place could definitely accomodate. On to the food: YUM! The dolma are some of the best tasting I've ever had (albeit maybe a little greasy, but that didn't take away from the flavor). I went rather simple and order a gyro playing it safe for some reason and I was really suprised. The meat was amazing. It was moist and well seasoned. Probably the best gyro I have ever had. I came here with some friends who were visiting from Iraq. I was a little worried that this restaurant wouldn't be up to par with their standards but they loved it! Arpeggio passed the test! I've been to several Mediterranean restaurants in Austin and this one has been my favorite, by a landslide. I loved the atmosphere-there are rugs and carpets with low tables, made me feel like I was in a foreign country. We ordered the tabbouleh which was the best I've ever had. Best kept secret in Austin. This place has terrible decor and amazing Greek food and pizza for cheap, cheap, cheap. Don't be fooled by the David-Lynch-esque weirdness of the interior, this place is good, and the people who work there know how to make the food. And the plates are massive. Be warned that the combo plates (both the vegetarian and the one with chicken and beef shwarma) are big enough for two hungry adults to share and get a full meal. This is not a date place, but a place to eat, order out, or get delivery. Check out the Greek pizza. It sounds like a terrible idea to put gyro meat on a pizza. And it's wonderful. Go check it out. They're open 11-10 just about every day of the week. Update: The decor has been redone and it is MUCH nicer inside now--real tables and chairs, the requisite Middle Eastern background music. The soda fountain is fixed. The grocery section is gone. I still would not call this a date place--it's far too casual for that--but it is definitely a place to bring about 8 friends and order 8 things on the menu and eat the hell out of them. Came here based on positive Yelp reviews and it was a pretty serious let down. The food was extremely sub par, not good meat, dark and kind of dingy, the hummus was OK but definitely not worth a visit to this restaurant. I have no idea why it has 4 stars on Yelp and honestly made me question Austin Yelpers. If you are not very familiar with Mediterranean food then this place will do the trick, if you have had good or even mediocre Med food before, I would not suggest trying this place. read more

I love the food here. It's a family owned business and they're good people. I typically come here around lunch time when I can. The line can stack up inside but they're pretty quick about getting the food out to you. They have regular seating and the more traditional seating of sitting on the floor. I always get the Gyro combo and it comes with fries and a drink. If you like gyros or if you don't, I'd still recommend getting one. They recognize my friends and I when we come in and make us feel very welcome. My type of atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this to more friends. read more

Fantastic food. Only in town for a few days of vacation. Arpeggio is the #1 rated Mediterranean place in the area so I had to try it out. Got the lunch special which consisted of chicken shawarma, Greek salad, 3 sides, pita bread, and a drink for $7.95. Added a piece of baklava for a little over a dollar. For around 10 bucks I got a massive amount of food. The chicken shawarma was perfectly cooked with great flavor. Put a little olive oil on the hummus and it tasted great. The falafel ball is a must have as well. Nice bit of spice. Dipped it in the salad dressing and almost had to buy a few more. The chicken and rice was a little spicy for me but had good overall flavor. The icing on the cake was the baklava. Now I'm no baklava king, but I've been around the block. This is probably the best baklava I've ever had. It wasn't overly sticky or dry like some place manage to make them. The crust was nice and crunchy. I was highly impressed. Had Dr. Pepper to drink. 23 flavors of awesomeness and all that. Seating inside was good and well spaced. There were a couple of seating area with couches and pillows. Worth trying with a group of friends looking for a relaxing place to eat. Parking was easy to find due to arriving before the lunch rush. The place got packed right after I sat down so I lucked out. This is one my favorite go-to's when I get off work early...or actually have a day off!!! Wowzers, better than ever!! I like the LUNCH SPECIAL (7.95 - 10.95) includes choice of meat, Greek salad, 3 sides and drink. Whoa dude...awesome right? Plus they make the biggest pizza in town. Family owned and ran. Really nice people who own this place, a true Austin gem. No Mediterranean fusion here. Come and get it!!! read more

I'm stunned by the service. Our waiters were genuinely curious about us, made appropriate chit-chat, and welcomed us in as if Arpeggio was their home. They added in a pot of free mint tea to show my table hospitality as they recently flew overseas and drove hours to visit Austin. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the cool sitting area where you take off your shoes and eat at a low table on the floor. The food is priced pretty cheap and you can get large portions depending on what you order. I do caution that even if this is mediterranean place, the food can be heavy and a plate of carbs - be picky when ordering if you want to order light. I'd suggest to order VEGETARIAN. I very much enjoyed my time here with the biggest plus being the people and their service. :0) read more

You know, Austin is not that great for food but they actually have decent arabic food! This place is a great option for lunch. It's light and tasty! Quite healthy if you ask me. The lunch deal is great! 3 sides+meat for 7.99 can't be beat! You can sit on the floor like a typical Yemeni restaurant which is really cool but the food is strictly Levantine. The service is really great! I really felt welcomed coming here and will be back in the future! read more
