Shout out to La Volta for 1) the fantastic Bolo Pasta (rigatoni with a great Bolognese sauce) and 2) the bartender and a server last Thursday night (1/8/26). I'd just flown from the West Coast and things had gotten delayed. When I finally dropped my bags at the B&B and found La Volta, I walked in and asked for something to go. The bartender suggested pasta, which sounded fine. By the time I crossed the street to buy a bottle of wine and got back, my pasta was waiting. I asked for a plastic fork. Server said they didn't have any. Apparently, the clientele mostly eats there. The bartender again intervened and affirmed what the server said. I must have looked tired and desperate. He gave me a regular metal fork that I promised to return the next day. They sent me off with friendly smiles and the dinner I so needed. The pasta was well beyond my expectations and truly revived my tired body. I hope to return in the future and eat in. And Volta employees, I hope that Bryan, owner of La Brava, got your fork back the next evening when I had moved on. read more

Where do I start? La Volta reminds me of pizza shops in Italy with the white linen table cloths and of course style of pizza. It's a nice resaurant with pretty decor, excellent lighting and ambiance making it a special pie vibe indeed. Friendly service and most importantly, delicious food. Overhyped hipster-ish joint. First of all, we went there for the Bolognese and they took it off the menu but didn't take it off the website. Then they served us some vodka sauce rigatoni with about the whole bottle of dried crushed red peppers. Prices... $40 for a pizza with three toppings. Been looking for a good chicken Caesar wrap in Austin and this is the best one I've had so far. Tortilla had a good bite and chew. Salad was dressed perfectly. Croutons were nice and crispy. If you come here I would not recommend adding any additional toppings. I added the stracciatella, sausage, and bell peppers and the bill came out to almost $50 for a 16 inch pizza. I thought the mozzarella would be the buffala mozzarella but it's just the regular string mozzarella. For the amount of peppers they put on the pizza, it should've been a free side. There wasn't much vodka sauce so the pizza was quite bland. I would def not recommend getting the vodka one - not sure why it's so popular. I should've just ordered from dominos or anywhere else for almost half the price. I wouldn't mind the price if the taste was actually incredible. read more

Sometimes you want to experience Euro summer but realize you live in Austin. Well look no further and check out La Volta for a little escape. Made a resy for 2 and were promptly seated to a cute little hidden dining area with red walls and paintings. The bar was really kind in making me a Hugo spritz off the menu. It was perfect, not too sweet and decently boozy. My husband and I shared a Cesar salad (which they serve you a copious amount of for $15) and the beef bolognese pasta. The salad could've used a little more dressing for the heaping amount of lettuce we were served. And the beef bolognese was delicious! It was strangely kind of light on the stomach. The menu is pretty small. There's a select few you can choose from, but they all seemed delicious. We had the Vodka Pizza, and the Peso Alla Genovese. We also ordered a bottle of wine since it was half off. I'm from NYC so I'm very picky about pizza, but this place brought me back to the city. The pizza isn't too thick or too thin. It's nice and soft on top with the crunchy base. The pasta was also incredibly delicious. To start off the vibe in here was very overwhelming. Seems like they try too hard... needing reservations but then serving you in jeans and t shirts, lighting it like a fancy restaurant but having wobbly tables. The lighting was red and there was not much of any light anywhere else in sight, you could barely see what was in front of you. The noise was worse than the lighting everything echos off the walls, there was a group of girls talking and you could not hear yourself over them. Food... the meatballs came out lukewarm had they been hot they would've been the best thing we ate here. The sauce they came in was amazing paired with the bread. The Cacio e Pepe was too salty. The pastas were okay! The pesto same thing was way too salty and the beef was nothing special. Overall for the price we wouldn't come back here again. Had a delicious and incredible time here! Came here with a party of four. We got a reservation for 7 but it wasn't too busy yet on a week day. The atmosphere is fun and casual while also having a cool vibe that feels kinda fancy. I think it was the red lights idk. Service was fantastic everyone was very knowledgeable. Went here last night for Valentine's Day & was extremely impressed by all our dishes! We got the beef meatballs (the most tender meatballs I've ever had), caesar salad (also the best caesar I've ever had), & the classic pie. I also got a sparkling lemonade which is nonalcoholic & it was delicious! We got seated in the back room which was nice as there weren't many tables, I think 4-5, so it was a bit quiter. The lights were nice & dimmed for a romantic vibe & our server was just the sweetest. My one note/suggestion - if you plan to go during a busy time or on a holiday, go early as they do run out of menu items! I kinda like that though, a business not just buying an over abundance of things & things going to waste. Our server said they were absolutely slammed the entire day, so again if you're going at a peak time, just keep in mind options may be a bit limited. They have a smaller menu which I appreciate as well, because everywhere just has way too many options.. Front nook has a lot of glass and is a fun spot but quite hot in the summer with the sun. The HVAC isn't quite sufficient for cooling. Mirror in the back of the front seating section makes the place seem larger than it is. Seating is also available in the rear. Service was great - staff as nice and checked on us to make sure we were doing ok. Pizzas are really great here. Both the classic and supreme were hits. Fresh lemonade was a hit as well. I was in earlier to pick up a spicy chicken Caesar wrap, been wanting to try it for a few weeks and the guys were really nice and asked me to drop a review here so here it is: I'm not going to lie I was a little disappointed. I think the flavors meshed nicely but as soon as I took off the layers of butcher paper it was an oily mess. Not sure where in the process (maybe tossing the chicken in hot oil?) it gets so oily and wet but yeah it was just hard to eat and borderline soggy. Washed my hands twice during the meal. It was not because we wanted to, it was because it tasted so good that we could not stop eating even though we were full. It was addicting. I really wanted to love my 2nd visit to La Volta. The food and atmosphere were wonderful, but the service unfortunately overshadowed the experience. My group of ten had a 7:30 reservation and wasn't seated right away, despite several open tables. When we politely asked to move a small nearby table so we could sit together, our waitress, Carly, became frustrated, scolded us, threw the menus down, and said, "We have 120 other reservations tonight," even though only a few other parties arrived during our meal. She later apologized, which I appreciated, but then attempted to "buddy up" to our table, frequently using strong language and joking about suicide--extremely inappropriate, especially since a member of our party had recently lost a family member to suicide. You never know what a guest may be going through, and professionalism is critical in hospitality. We appreciated the friends and family discount and the complimentary birthday drink, but the service put a damper on what should have been a fun, celebratory evening. From reading other reviews, it seems inconsistent or unprofessional service may be a recurring issue. I hope the new east side location focuses on hiring and training polite, poised staff. read more

The 2 stars are for the food. It was good but because of the service and prices I will not be coming back. We had reservations for 2 and got seated pretty quickly. It was overwhelmingly loud in there, I think it's because of how small the room is. We split a pizza, appetizer, pasta and had 1 cocktail each. The sides of ranch and hot honey were $2 each, to which I think was not a big deal, absurd yes but whatever. Just wish they would have given us the heads up. While we were deciding on whether we wanted another round of drinks or not the waitress comes over to tell us how we had to leave by 9, 1 hour & 1/2 after our reservation. We then ask for the check.... on top of the regular tax there was also a "mixed bev tax" I have never seen that before. They also charge 3% to use your credit card. Unfortunately this is a place I would not recommend. There are plenty of better restaurants in Austin and surrounding area read more

Great to see Sammataro now have a brick and mortar open - the space is intimate and comfortable. The music and artistic design make the space fun to dine here. Some of the best pizza I've ever had in Austin. You get a LOT of high quality pizza for the price. They have a small but solid drink menu and their Cesar salad is great. They charge $4 for sides like ranch and chili oil which is a bit outrageous but the pizza doesn't need it. The hostesses are so friendly and kind. Pro tip: they don't make reservations and they only seat full parties, so make sure your friends and family arrive on time! There's street parking around the building. I docked one star for two reasons: the music is SO LOUD. I mean like nightclub level loud. You can barely hear the other members of your party. It doesn't fit the vibe of the restaurant at all and was super obnoxious and frustrating. Also, it is a super light and airy space but there are no blinds on the windows -- so the sun shines directly onto some of the tables and it gets HOT. My friends and I were seated inside up against the window facing the sun (it was around 85-90 degrees outside) and we were SWEATING. Imagine how hot it'll get when it's the dead of summer! So I highly, highly recommend turning down the music and installing some light filtering shades to stave off some of that Texas sun. With those fixes, this restaurant will be practically perfect. read more

The pizza is good. It's more of the New York style pizza. I tried the Vodka pizza, and it had good flavor. Combined with the ranch, it was good! I also had the meatballs as an appetizer, and they were great. Very tender and flavorful. Prices were a little steep. A small cup of ranch was $3. There is no parking. Sammataro I have wanted to try Sammataro for some time now. I was able to get a group ready to go for Friday night. I arrived at 6pm and the wait was about an hour. The wait time grew much longer after this so I think it's a perfect time to get there. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of Austin (eating in a old house) and NY - Italian. This really helped add to the experience. The waitstaff was attentive and offered great recommendations. I really appreciate a communicative waitstaff - they were amazing. FOOD: We ordered a Cesar Salad, and two pizzas. The classic and the Vodka w/ Shallots, Sausage, and half w/ Peppers. The vodka pizza recommendations was given by our waiter and it was SO GOOD. The heat from the peppers was a perfect amount and made everything else even more comforting. The classic pie was also so so good. It was simple and flavorful, not greasy and very comforting. I could eat a whole pie by myself. The drinks: cocktails were 10/10, perfect for the experience. The wine was also amazing paired with the pizza. The only miss was the Cesar salad. There was not enough dressing on it so the majority of our bites tasted like lettuce which was kinda a turn off. Overall - amazing experience.
