Seating is limited enough that you start mentally drafting backup plans the moment you step inside. We ordered the lasagna pizza, which tasted good but was noticeably undercooked -- soft enough that it felt like it needed another round in the oven. And the "lasagna" angle? I'm still trying to decode it. Everything listed as the lasagna components were things a normal pizza already has, so the theme didn't quite land. My daughter ordered the stuffed crust pizza, which is filled with ricotta cheese. It was her first time trying ricotta, and unfortunately, it wasn't her favorite. We were in Texas for the Thanksgiving holiday, and decided to take a road-trip up to Austin. We stayed in the city center and hit up several of the bars in downtown. We were there just shy of 9PM on a Sunday as they were about to close. We walked in and the whole staff warmly greeted us, and explained their menu. They were friendly and patient with us. We love spice, and we had to try the Pizza Specialita Diavola. This pie is a red sauce pizza with buffalo & scamorza mozzarellas, soppressata, pepperoni, garlic, pecorino and Calabrian peppers. I was not familiar with scamorza mozzarella which happens to be a drier, firmer, sometimes smoky, with a more concentrated flavor of mozzarella cheese. The flavors were all on point. The sauce was just the right amount, the cheeses were gooey and stretchy, and the spice level was just enough to remind me I was eating a specialty pizza with an extra kick. The decor was industrial farm-modern. Very clean and inviting at the same time. We were the only patrons ordering the last pie for the night, so I cannot comment on the general ambiance or vibe from patrons. We took the pie back to the hotel an enjoyed as we saw our last day in Texas come to a close. When I got back to California, I researched the place, and realized it's a chain. Look no further for the best pizza place in austin. This is my second time here. I enjoy the crust from the first time visiting, but not the burn parts on the bottom. This time both pizzas were not burnt, but rather having nice char on the bottom and edges which adds flavors. The dough is definitely better than other pizza places. The toppings are amazing like always. The cheese is stretchy and melty. I don't know where they got their cheeses from, but they have a distinctive taste. Service is 10/10. We ended up with a Pizza Margarita and a salad. Both were really good! This is very solid Neapolitan Pizza! When we walked by, you could see the ingredients they used right in the window. In addition, that morning, employees were making and portioning the dough. The pizza had that classic light and airy crust, wonderful sauce flavor and just the right amount of mootz (mozzarella). We were staying in a hotel in downtown and looking for a place close enough to walk. DeSano Pizzeria turned out to be the perfect find. After ordering, we found a couple of seats among the very limited seating. While we're waiting on our food to come out, it became apparent the small dining room is offset by a huge carry out business. Customers in the restaurant once; carry out customers for life! Unlike so many of the chain pizza places, these pies are truer to Italian pizza. There aren't crust options; you get it the way it is supposed to be made. The sauce is light and flavorful with just the perfect amount of cheese and toppings. We started with the Italian Chopped salad. So good! For me, the soppressata, mozzarella, and balsamic were the perfect balance against the romaine and radicchio greens. The flavor is made up of all kinds of "good stuff" - salty, slightly bitter, and savory. The mozzarella moderates the acidity of the balsamic vinegar as well. It is done so well. It took us forever to decide on which pizza we wanted because they all sounded so good. We finally landed on Il Maiale ("The Pig"). Prosciutto cotto and pancetta -- need we say more? We got the 16", but in retrospect - especially after sharing the huge salad - the 12" pizza would have been more than enough. It was so good! Our only issue with the pizza will be deciding what to try next time we are down here. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. read more
