I hate to one star a business like this, especially what seems to be a mom and pop, but customer service is quite important to me. I walked in and the older lady behind the counter was assisting another customer. I stood behind the gentleman, waiting but she at no point acknowledged me. She wasn't rushing around busy or anything of that sort. She was taking her time as she made plenty of small talk with the guy in front of me. I stood there for 5 minutes, which wasn't very pleasant as this place doesn't smell well at all. I considered leaving, but decided to take a seat. At no point did she say "Hello", or "This might take awhile" or anything of that sort. I sat in that chair for another 10 minutes or so (holding my breath), and decided to leave as a couple of other customers arrived. She didn't acknowledge them either while I was there. She didn't even look in my general direction to give me an opportunity to say "hello" or ask a question. Personally, I felt it would have been rude if I interrupted to ask a question while she was tending to another customer. Although I'm sure that would have been fine, as she wasn't particularly polite herself, I don't see the point in wasting my money at such places. I'd rather go elsewhere. There are some situations in which it's pretty reasonable that a person would not, or would be unable to, acknowledge a customer. This wasn't one of them. While she joked on and on with the guy ahead of me (who seemed to be someone she knew), it wouldn't have taken but 2 seconds for her to look over and say "Hi, I'll be right with you." A friend was moving into a new condo nearby and had 4 different keys for 3 different doors. After showing Tracey, the girl behind the counter, pictures of the locks in question she described to me how to take them apart and bring them in to be re-keyed. After 2 trips, all locks keyed alike. Lance was very helpful with his recommendation for the only lock I needed to actually replace. Very cost effective and helpful, would recommend them in a heartbeat. Yes the place looks like it hasn't been remodeled since 1972, but they have everything you might need. I don't go to locksmiths for the decor, but that's just me. I spent several weeks visiting different hardware shops and home improvement stores for an old mortise body lock. None of them had a suitable replacement. Alternatively, I researched how to fix the lock on the internet to no avail. Finally, I decided to take the lock to a locksmith. Arrow Locksmith fixed this old, hard to find, lock right on the spot! It took him 3 minutes and he charged a small fraction of the cost to replace it. This was great customer service! He even contacted me to help me sooner than planned. read more

This place is old school. I keep going back because the keys are cut correctly the first time. If a key I am bringing in doesn't work in the lock quite right (like I have to pull it back a bit etc) they adjust the cut. That kind of service isn't available at a big box. They know all the old lock sets which is important in a town like Oak Park with 100 year old homes. Yes, they don't acknowledge me at the door when they are with someone else, but they do what do very well.... and they know me by name now. It takes a while to warm up.... so it may not be for everyone, but I will take gruff old school and a good keys any day. read more

Arrow Locksmith is a blast from the past. There is nothing fancy about this place, and it seems to be family-owned, judging by the elderly gentleman who waited on me and the handwritten signs. I've been here twice. Once to make a copy of a motorcycle key, and once to fit a mortise lock with a skeleton key. I was impressed that both requests met success. Turns out, my lock was painted over, so the gentleman took apart the lock and freed it up. He commented that the lock was made by a company that went out of business during the depression. I was charged $15: $7 for labor and $8 for the key. It seemed a little pricey to me, but I figured it was probably reasonable for the specialized knowledge about the antique lock. The only negative is that the gentleman started working on my lock without commenting on the price of the service, and I expected that he would give me an idea of the charge before performing the work. read more

Reasonable rates. The locksmith came to my home today to improve the functioning of a mortise lock that had been installed in my front door by a so called door expert after my home had been broken into. He did a great job so it works much better. He also corrected the position of the brass plate covering the lockbox on the door edge. "TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN".......should be the theme song for Arrow Locksmith. A rude man named came to our brand new house to rekey several locks and we were charged $400 for less than one hour of work. Arrow Locksmith claims that they guarantee all of their work. This proved to be a FALSE statement on their part. After 2 weeks, my gate lock stopped working and they refused to come out to even look at. The lady who answers their phones was EXTREMELY rude and she actually started screaming at me. Arrow Locksmith claims that they offer prompt and courteous service at very reasonable costs. Based on my experience, this was not the case at all. I would definitely recommend going elsewhere for your lock and key services. These people are toal rip off artists and extremely rude to boot! The services they claim to guarantee are a total joke! While the "locksmith" was doing the initial work, he told me himself how slow business was lately. So, I found it very odd, that every time I tried to get him to come fix my broken lock, he was ALWAYS busy out in the field. It seems to me that these people really just care about making a quick buck and not being of any service to their customers once they have been able to take their money and run!!!! read more

I came on a weekday before 4 pm. I was the only one there so I didn't experience any waits or delays of service. I needed copies of a motorcycle key and car key (both did not have chips so just needed duplication. The rates are very competitive and it took less than 10 min for about 8 copies in total. The customer service was great and the woman had a nice sense of humor. I was told by a dealer it would cost almost $100 to make one copy of my bike key and instead paid a few dollars for multiple copies. Arrow saved me a ton of money! read more

I have looked at the models that were fitted and we were charged x3 times what they were purchased for + suddenly the hourly rate increased from 65 to 75 when we received the invoice. I've never done a review like this before, but am upset enough that I will spend the time for this. BTW, why can't I choose zero stars? I needed extra keys for my grandson's 1995 Cadillac and went to Arrow Locksmith a couple weeks ago only to learn the ignition key is a V.A.T.S with a little resistor in it which they don't stock (and didn't want to order). But, they did replicate the door key for $1.65. I found the proper ignition key blank on ebay (good deal... only $8.96 including shipping... dealerships typically charge $30 or more) and took it in to be cut. He charged me $3.00 to cut it! When I complained and said they had only charged $1.65 (which included the blank key!) a couple weeks ago for the same one sided cut, on the same machine, taking the same amount of time, he insulted my intelligence with "Well, the key (even though I'd bought the key because they didn't have, nor wanted to order one) is a 'more expensive' key". The cost of the key should have nothing to do with the cutting of the key. He used the same machine, it had the same number of sides to cut (just one... didn't have to take the key out to cut the other side), and took him the same amount of time. Plus, he didn't have the expense of providing the blank key! I made the comment, "I suppose if I'd come in to have a key made for a Mercedes, you'd have charged even more just because it's for a more expensive car!" There are plenty of alternatives so I won't be using Arrow Locksmith again. read more
