Another wonderful service visit from Aguilar & Sons today. One of our doors had become tricky to close, to the point where I broke off a key in the lock! I called and asked for their help, and am so glad I did. Alex came by to take a look at our door and lock. He was able to identify the issue and fix it during the same visit. He also identified a similar issue with another one of our doors. Our house was built in the early 1900s, and everything is just a little bit askew, and it makes sense that our door locks need adjustment as time goes on. I called Aguilar and I received friendly, experienced service with upfront pricing. I hope you will too. One afternoon the interior push plate on our front door stopped working, and we could no longer exit our castle through the great hall! The next morning I called several locksmiths to get estimates on work, and one of the few to provide me with a flat fee was Humberto at Aguilar. It was a very reasonable rate and he arrived a mere hour after confirming the necessary part. There were a few other issues with our door, but he differentiated between an immediate need and a longer term issues to monitor. The additional labor for the second part was much less than I expected and I was pleased to have the work completed so quickly at such a reasonable price. I have used them before in the past for making a copy of my 2009 Harley Davidson 883 ignition back in 2015 and recently in 2021 for my 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. They are upfront on certain keys they can or cannot make and go above and beyond making your spare key. Best part is they do not charge a lot to make those keys for vehicles that still use real keys versus going to the Car or Motorcycle dealer. Surprised me that they handle newer vehicle with Keyfobs in this day and age. It would be a special order. They also test if they can replace the battery or not or get a new keyfob since they have the technology or tools to do so at no extra charge. read more

I've been there a couple times and key didn't work instead giving me a key for free for the inconvenience they charged me again and I called for a different car after bringing them so much business they wouldn't even discount $1 they are money hungry and don't care about customers will be taking my business somewhere else I tough taking my money to a Hispanic business because I'm latino but it makes no sense I rather take my money elsewhere. read more

The locksmith industry has been besieged by bad operators and scammers that claim to be "local" and then show up and charge you an arm and a leg for their services. I locked myself out of my car and ALMOST went down that road, but then came to my senses and remembered Aguilar and Sons were in the neighborhood. Note: I am going to start with my perspective: born and raised in Manhattan (when rents didn't drive out all the neighborhood stores; pre "big [generic] box" stores) and recently stayed in Tennessee for 3 years helping on a family issue (all big box/chain stores). One of Chicago's greatest attributes/charm is that these types of stores still exist. GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO USE THEM. They know their business which only comes from experience. (Why reward the bland box stores when one can support businesses like this?) I had a vintage lock from an old mailbox (which they recognized immediately) that was missing the key - and sure enough, within a wall of drawers filled with locksmith parts.. they found a replacement one. Trust me when I say, you do not want to live in a world where places like this don't exist. So, one simple vintage mailbox lock's replacement serves as a message: it is the specialty businesses like this that keep a city vibrant and it is people with this level of experience that not only solve your problem(s) but save you time. I had a main entry door with a stuck door knob latch that would not retract no matter how many times I turn the knobs on both ends. It was great the locksmith came 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. He was able to get the latch open, replaced with new hardware in a short time. I was helping a friend getting her locks changed. We called and asked about re-keying two bolt locks on front door and kitchen door. They said can come out and re-key the locks so one key works for both for $145. Will cost less than getting new locks and solve my friends problems. In fact they can do it now! My sister locked herself out of our parents home.. No one had a key...since it was security storm door. I called around and got three quotes. I spoke with owner who explained my options and prices. Terrible experience. We called at 8:30am because our key had gotten stuck in the lock of our back door the evening before. The person on the phone told me I'd get a call from a technician soon. At 2:30pm the call still hadn't come. I called back and the customer service person apologized and said a tech should call soon. At 4pm they still hadn't called. I called back and talked to manager, who said she'd give me 10% off and I should get a call in 30 mins or less. I didn't. I called back and talked to the manager again, and she said she'd call the technician personally to tell him to call me. He finally called 15 minutes later and sounded annoyed he had to talk to me. He said to text him a picture of the key stuck in the lock and he'd call me back, which I did immediately after I hung up. Rather than calling me back, he texted me a reply saying he could only try to fix it but couldn't guarantee anything, and that he'd be at our house between 6-7pm. I called him back and asked him why he was not sure he could fix it, and what was the next step of he couldn't. He said the next step would be to replace the lock, but he didn't think they had the parts to replace the lock. He had to call the office, and would call me back after he did. He never called me back. I texted at 7:15pm to ask if he was still coming. It is now 7:30pm and he has not responded to my text. We wasted a whole day waiting on this business, without even the courtesy of a call. Please save your time and look elsewhere! read more

Ok, so it doesn't have the same flow as the original Ghostbusters song by Ray Parker Jr. but that song was stuck in my mind the night Burt from A&S got me out of a pretty tight pickle. I won't get into the sticky details of my personal tale of woe but after a mild panic attack I called these guys and they were there to help me out in less than an hour. It was a cold, dark night, American Idol was about to come on and here I was locked out with my pooches on the other side of the door. Burt saved my butt that night and I will forever be grateful. My go to every time. The prices are reasonable. They are fast in response. My dog ran outside before i could grab my keys and well i locked myself out. Luckily i had my phone. On Monday at 3:30pm, I tried another local locksmith I had good luck with in the past and they could not fit me in until Wednesday. I almost didn't bother calling others as the Yelp reviews for nearby locksmiths were not confidence inspiring. Despite the fact that I was in Oak Park, Aguilar got someone to my house within an hour. Attempted to price gouge for a column reprogram. Attempted to charge me $155 and charged me $55 in August 2015. Then had the nerve to state that they could not ganurantee that it would work but payment would still be expected. I went to J & A on Cicero and it was much cheaper. I would never go here. After a recent burglary, and remembering the negative experience I had with a long-time Oak Park locksmith, I decided to try someone new. Aguilar is a family business. I spoke to one of the sons on the phone, told him what kind of locks I was looking for and got his advice about alternatives. Another brother came to my house a few hours later, as promised. He installed two deadbolts and the hardware was exactly as advertised, matching my other hardware and keyed correctly. I paid with a credit card and the price was reasonable. Needed to get our locks changed after getting a new condo. I called on a Thursday to schedule the locksmith for Saturday morning. Charles came out right on time (I had to drive 100 miles to meet him, so couldn't mess this up!), and had 4 tumblers re-keyed and 5 keys supplied within a short time. It took only about 1 hour to do it all. Charles was very pleasant and kind and patiently explained how keys/tumblers work to me (who has an incurable interest in how things work). Tip: tell them how many keys you want ahead of time and they can cut them in the home office, and then come out and adjust/re-create tumblers to fit the new keys. Cost was $20 per tumber and a $69 (?) fee for the trip, plus about $1.50 per key. Reasonable rates and very dependable service. I highly recommend them. read more

We had the unfortunate experience of losing the key to an antique cabinet. I called six or seven locksmiths in the Chicago and near west suburbs, and two of them recommended Aguilar & Sons Locksmiths. Bert bought the shop years ago and with the shop he got an old cigar box full of antique keys. Within 5-10 minutes of arriving, he and his son had the cabinet open and then spent the rest of the time modifying one of the antique keys so that it would fit our cabinet. Very reasonably priced and were at our house within a few hours of contacting them initially. Their stock of antique keys is running low - so if you have any that you don't need or want, I'm sure they would be happy to take them off your hands. read more

They were the ONLY independent lock smith I found who could re-key my 2012 RAV4. Toyota has it set up technically so you have to go to the dealership and pay $500 for one new key.
