On a recent trip to San Francisco, I was lucky enough to get to explore a bit of Sonoma county. This was our first winery stop of three and it was just gorgeous! You have to make a reservation for a tasting. Each tasting is $30ish per person and well worth the price in my opinion. It was my brother's third time visiting here and my first and I could see why he continues to go back. The porch has a beautiful view of the vineyards and the mountains. They are very dog friendly and brought a few treats and a water bowl over for my brother's dog. The service was excellent. The wine tasting was comprehensive and enjoyable. We even got to try one of their reserve wines that was off menu and that was probably my favorite (and also the most expensive, of course). We both enjoyed the Knight's Valley wine too that was on the tasting menu - I think I'm remembering the name correctly. Our server recommended a few other wineries and restaurants to us and she even gave us a coupon for a complimentary wine tasting at another winery if we purchased a bottle there. Overall, we really enjoyed this visit to Arrowood and would certainly recommend it to anyone else who is in wine country for the day. read more

Had a lovely tasting experience here yesterday with wine club members who love the wines that are produced here and wanted to share it with us. The causal exterior and farmhouse style structures are a welcome charm as you enter the interior of the main building. The decor and high ceilings, warm environment draw you. The views of the surrounding vines, the friendly staff member and the delicious wines made the private tasting experience so delightful. They are known for their reds and all were very good. Actually the entire event was so pleasant and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. read more

Arrowood is always a nice place to visit. It's quieter on the Sonoma side. I stayed in Glenn Ellen and it's just a short drive. The view is pretty and the staff are helpful. Of course the wine is top quality. They say that they make wine where the balance and expression are achieved in the vineyard and I think that it shows in the unique style. The wines are Bordeaux blends that are ageable and complex. In addition to the current releases they have library wines going back many years. read more

We have been coming to Arrowood for 20yrs. Enjoying their wines and staff. We looked forward to wrapping up our Thanksgiving weekend with a tasting, purchasing a couple of cases and a quick nibble while we tasted. The sole tasting room employee provided the worst experience we have encountered in 30yrs of visiting Sonoma's Valley of the Moon. The service was rushed, loud and anxious. The server was telling every table (industry employees, a couple from NY and another couple to visit VJB https://vjbcellars.com. No idea why?? Further we were informed we could enjoy our quick bite (1/2 sandwich) if we found a bottle we liked and purchased the bottle in addition to paying for our tasting. We did not buy wine, will never go back and will no longer support this winery. We ate as we drove back to the city still shocked at the treatment we received. CAUTION: this is not the environment it once was and you may want to re-think a visit. It's a shame. We truly loved Arrowood. read more

If you are into smaller wineries where you might receive a one on one service, learn about the wines, and take your time enjoying it, then this might be a winery you might enjoy. The service that my friend and I received here was super spectacular. They really went into detail about each of the wines that we did. I recommend doing the premium list, it is a little bit more expensive but the taste of each wine is so much better. read more

Amazing time. Called in to see if there was an opening and there was (the other parties canceled that day although online showed it was fully booked) so definitely try calling. The staff is phenomenal - very friendly, attentive. They even gave me a discount happily when I mentioned I might have signed up for emails which offered discount (but I wasn't sure). The view is relaxing and beautiful. Felt like I was on little house in the prairie with their porch seating. I would try to go on a less hot day though ( we went when it was 100 F outside). The staff said when it rains it's beautiful, as they have porch, can view rain safely :) The wine is good. They are known for red wines. We got a bottle of pinot noir (you can do bottle instead of tasting). We thought bottle would be more worth it since some of these places give ridiculously small pours for tastings that cost more than a bottle. But Arrowood has reasonably priced tastings and they actually pour super super generous amounts! Will try that next time. Overall highly recommend. read more

Had a tasting reservation on a weekday around noon with the office. Walked in and I loved the high ceilings of the tasting room. The view was also very nice as you sipped on wine. It would be nice during the warmer weather to go out on the patio as well. Part of our group, including me, had the Signature tasting which included more whites versus reds. Our first wine was the a Chardonnay and it was my favorite. The rest of the wines were also great. Our pourer was nice and I love the reusable bag with dividers for the wines! read more

Cab tasting? Enough said! We came to this winery on our "Unplugged Weekend" together and I couldn't be happier with us leaving with a case of their wines. I thoroughly enjoyed tasting each red wine that was offered on the tasting menu. I found it quite interesting that their Merlot doesn't actually taste like Merlot. Cause in my opinion, Merlot tastes like watered down Jesus Juice. I like my red wines with more body and some oomph to em so if I'm drinking any kinda wine, it'd most likely be a Cabernet Sauvignon. Arrowood is apparently one of the few wineries that makes Cabernet Sauvignon from Monte Rosso Vineyard (wherever the heck that is). Two other great things about this winery: 1. Staff members are super friendly and true wine-o's. 2. If you want a good backdrop for a photo op, take a step outside onto their deck. You get such a beautiful view of Sonoma Wine Country. read more

Arrowood is one of our most favorite wineries. It is located just off the Sonoma Highway in Glen Ellen. It is convenient in proximity to many very nice restaurants in both the towns of Glen Ellen and Sonoma. The facilities at the winery are beautiful. Spectacular views from the wine tasting bar, the private tasting room on the first floor and the larger tasting / eating area for private parties on floor two. These views are topped off with an elevated, wraparound deck for visitors to enjoy while sampling the marvelous wine. My wife and I have been Arrowood Wine Club members now for several years. We always enjoy introducing friends and family to their wonderful offerings. Note that the wine club has all of the usual perks plus some (e.g. private wine pairings). Another solid reason for joining this club is that Arrowood is difficult to find. They have limited bottling and club members buy up the wine to enjoy themselves. Now I strongly prefer red wines but my wife loves her Chardonnay. Arrowood's Cabernets, the Malbec and the Merlot are fantastic. The starting point Cab is the Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. Great with food or just enjoying a glass or two with a good book. You can be confident when servicing this to guests with a discriminating taste for wine. A step-up is the Monte Rosso Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon which is a big red with a very nice after taste. Another great premium choice is the smooth, Smothers-Remick Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon ....... and yes, the Smothers' family provide the grapes. read more

One star for the place being pretty. The tasting room is up on a hillside so while your drinking you look out onto their vineyard. I can usually get free tasting passes for this place either at the Santa Rosa visitors center or online before I go: http://sonoma.com/special_interest/coupons/Wine.html However, even with the free tasting pass I don't think I would go back to this place again. The person pouring was nice enough but to be honest the wine wasn't very good, at least compared to the other wineries in the region and from what I remember the bottles were very expensive. We found this little hidden gem because it was down the street from the cottage we were renting this trip to Napa/Sonoma. We got on yelp to see which wineries right down the street had good reviews and good Cabernets! We are so glad we found Arrowood. We loved ALL their Cabernets and joined the wine club. This is the only wine club we joined this trip. That is saying a lot, because we joined their wine club after 3 1/2 days in Napa and one afternoon in Sonoma. We absolutely loved it, we cannot wait for our wines to arrive, and to return as members on our next trip to CA Wine country! I came here with my office as an outing and it was my very first time wine tasting. I didn't know what to expect, but it was very pleasant. I'm not much of a wine drinker, but i think I've acquired the taste from this trip. We tried a variety of reds and whites and i ended up with a bottle of white wine when we left. The people helping us were very knowledgeable in their wine and also let us taste a few that weren't on our list to try..which was very nice of them. I thought this place looked familiar! This was one of the wineries we stopped at during my bachelorette party. I think... Anyway, hubby and I stopped came here Saturday. I usually spend hours planning our itinerary, but today, hubby and I decided to be somewhat spontaneous. We were on our way to Imagery and decided to stop here too. Pros: * the wrap-around porch; the beautiful views * the viogner was one of the best I've ever had - very peachy! * husband raved about their cabernet sauvignons So the wine isn't bad, but... Cons: * the tasting fee was REALLY pricey for the area ($15 for the standard, $25 for the reserve) * they only waive the tasting fee if you buy TWO bottles; avg. bottle price $70 (!!!) * service was only OK. they didn't go out of their way or anything... and they weren't particularly friendly, warm, or conversational. the whole environment felt a little sterile/vanilla. Arrowood was beautiful; we sat out on the patio and had a really lovely time. But....when we would go back inside for our next taste the person pouring really wasn't interested in talking to us at all and gave pretty small pours compared to most wineries in the area. The wines we tried were fine (I think, it was hard to tell with the 1.5 sips we got) but nothing blew our socks off. It's pretty and peaceful and calm here, but I'm not sure I would come back. read more

We were seated in a private tasting room with a great view of the vineyard. #Tasting# The tasting cost $35 per person It includes two whites, two reds and one dessert wine, as well as cheese pairing for each wine. The wines were not outstanding but decent, and the pairing was phenomenal. #Service# The best part is that the wine waiter just came in occasionally to talk about the tasting notes of each wine. Atmosphere was breathtaking and delicious wine. Our host was a little off and rude. Our party paid individually and she told us what a "Pain in the ass" it was to ring us up individually although several of us purchased multiple bottles of wine. This was a birthday event and the birthday girl's feeling were hurt. Also a member of our party asked to revisit the chardonnay instead of one of the reds that was in the tasting and she declined him explaining it would mess up her numbers. That is kind of ridiculous. The '06 Cote De Lune Blanc is light and floral, not too sweet but not sharp or bitter in the least. The attitude from behind the counter in the tasting room had a certain character to it, but was kind of jarring and didn't finish well. read more

Great winery, beautiful location. It sits slightly on top of a hill so you can overlook the valley. I had one of the best Cabs here, it's the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, Monte Rosso Vineyard. It's very smooth, well balanced, clean finish, and light tannins. It made me want to chomp down on a large piece of rib eye. Joe was extremely friendly, he gave us some extra pours that's not on the tasting list. Prices are $5 for the classic and $10 for the reserve. I highly recommend the reserve so you can taste the Monte Rosso Cab. read more

We've enjoyed Arrowoods Cabernets for years now. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because I hate standing doing a wine tasting.

My friend and I came here from a recommendation and enjoyed ourselves. Since it was a Friday, it was very quiet and not crowded at all. At most I saw 3 other small groups. Both of us decided to get the Classic Tasting ($5). I enjoyed everything especially the Gewurztraminer, Rose, and Cabernet. The Rose wasn't featured on the tasting menu, but our server gave us a taste. When drinking our Cabernet, we sat outside on the wrap around porch of the New England style farmhouse just enjoying the view since the winery sits on top of a small hill overlooking the valley. We also brought out some kettle korn and raspberries from the farmers market to eat. Very relaxing! If you buy a bottle of wine, you get your tasting fee waived. I ended buying a bottle of Rose, which was $20. But there was a July special and ended up getting the bottle for $14. What a great deal! read more

Wish I could say more but we were there just in passing to try their wines as we were recommended to stop by and left well pleased. Sonoma County is by far one of my favorite places to go wine tasting. It is less crowded than Napa, less pretentious, and overall, a better experience. Arrowood was a wine tasting experience to remember. I went on a wine limo tour a couple years ago with a group of friends, but the one winery that stands out of the many we went to is Arrowood. The service was exemplary. The staff poured us extra wines, and even the reserve wines. The highlight (which I ended up purchasing) was a reserve 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon. What really made the experience magical was the overall layout and view of the place. The wine tasting counter/bar is backdropped by an amazing window that overlooks the vineyards. The wine tasting room itself is on a hill overlooking the vineyards, so all you see out the window is a sloping valley of gorgeous grape vines. On the particular day I went, the sun was breaking through the clouds and shining on the vineyards as I was tasting, creating a moment that cannot be repeated, but can only be described as magical. Arrowood is an amazing winery with great wines, amazing and friendly staff, and a view to die for. read more

Not a resort where just bc you and your 10 friends roll up and ask if you can share your tasting....yes...that's why you were perhaps ignored a bit. Wine tasting is exactly that. Tasting. Not trying to get a free taste or monopolize the host bc you're trying to impress....or get drrrunk.. Look- they have a great Viognier that has had 9 mos in oak that is bright,fresh and wonderfully aromatic. Some very nice Cab sourced from some of the most desired lots in the area. There's a totally kick ass Syrah w/ a 6% blend of Viognier to add a bit of complexity. Lastly,there are 3 late harvest Rieslings that (06,07,& 04) were ripe with honeysuckle and all that's right with the world. I'm ordinarily not a "winery experience" kind of guy. If I like the wine, I like the winery, even if its a barn (and some of them are). If I don't like the wine, the winery could be beautiful, and I wouldn't care. With Arrowood, it's a bit half-and-half. I like a number of their wines, although I'm not bowled over by many of them. I like the simplicity of their winery. And I love sitting on their deck, looking out over the vineyards, watching hawks and turkey buzzards lazily circle in the updrafts. It's hypnotically relaxing. I really enjoyed this winery as the views are spectacular and it didn't feel as 'commercial' as some of the other wineries. I came here on a Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty quiet overall, with plenty of outdoor seating on the porch available. If you don't like reds, you probably want to go elsewhere as they only serve reds. We were served a rose at the start of our tasting which was one of my favorite wines of my trip, and I really enjoyed the rest of the reds we tasted. Also, Arrowood didn't seem to have any cheese/snack options (maybe I missed it), but did offer breadsticks. Overall, one of my favorite wineries in Sonoma and definitely more of a personal feel to it compared to some of the other wineries. Great wine, great views! read more

The location is up the hill and shares the same driveway as Imagery Winery which is also a nice winery. Once you get to this estate it has a beautiful view of the winery vineyard and rolling hills. What can I say: gees well I have tried wines from all over the world and defiantly all over this region (Sonoma and Napa). This place has hands down the best wine! If of course you are looking for HIGH quality, rich red wine! We were lucky enough to try the library wines which are very spendy but they are doing all the aging for you. You will truly melt when you try it! I like that they offer (by appointment) a cheese pairing I believe it's $30 for the cheese/wine pairing. The tasting fee is also more expensive than some of the others but trust me, it's worth the little extra money! Most Wes coast Malbec's to me need to be aged for years before they taste good enough to drink but Arrowood's is incredible! We live in Washington but became members anyways because we just have to have this wine and they don't sell it in stores. Only a few types to fine dining restaurants. I look forward to our complimentary cheese pairing when we visit again with our membership! It's nice to be a member at a vineyard which has such a stunning view and they have an upstairs area for events which must be even better for viewing. read more

Arrowood shares the same driveway with Imagery, but never is as crowded - which is fine with me. I recommend Arrowood for those who like cabernets, as that's what they specialize in. Arrowood maybe has 5-7 reserve/single-estate cabs at a time, and they're big. You need to hold off on drinking these guys if can. I think you have to know wine a bit to truly enjoy Arrowood and I wouldn't recommend it as someone's first visit to wine country. The property is fairly small compared to others, but it's the only one I've been to so far that has a deck. On warmer days, it's nice to do a tasting and sit on the deck overlooking the vineyards. Also, parking may seem limited, but drive around the house for more parking spots near the exit. Parking there is probably better because you get to walk past some vines. read more
