In short I can review their wines and their online events. If there's any justice, soon I'll be able to review their new Sonoma space, too. In long These guys are low-key in their packaging and low-key in their approach to self-promotion, but their craft is exceptionally good, especially at the price points they occupy. I've been a club member for most of the last 10+ years and the worst problem is I keep opening stuff even when I should save a bottle or two to try with more age on it. They source mostly (if not entirely) local fruit to produce a nice variety of reds, a couple whites, and the occasional pink. I've enjoyed everything I've tried, some tremendously. They pride themselves on their pinots, which have some heft to them, with tons of flavor, all perfectly in balance. And while they don't make cabs as far as I know, they make wonderfully hearty zins and syrahs. I've purchased aged examples of their syrahs and opened them right away...which is also the schedule I follow for their new-release syrahs I could be aging. They often release a white (with a companion white blend) under the name Winter Sun, which is usually a very small batch. It's one of the best whites I've had. They have made a rosé (I think from syrah grapes?) that's definitely the best rosé I've had. They hosted online tastings with blending sessions during the lockdown. They made it fun to see how combining single-grape samples into a blend could make something average change instantly into a delicious and interesting wine, just by finding the right proportions to meld together. I've been a fan practically since the beginning and expect to keep enjoying their wines for as long as they care to make them. read more

My wife and I had a trip to Sonoma during which we had enough time to go to just one winery. Based on the Yelp reviews we went with Fogline, and could not have been more pleased. Neither of us are really wine people, and Brent sat with us and gave us a world-class education on viticulture, also regaling us with tales of his journey to starting Fogline. A nice little vineyard with one of the most welcoming owner! We showed up without reservation while they were having limited tables due to renovations but managed to get the table for 4 anyway. Got an amazing experience with some awesome knowledge about wine from Evan. I've always been a Pinot person but somehow came back home with a bottle of Zin. Their wines were good, some had really interesting taste profile. The wine tasting experience was so much better with all the knowledge and side stories from Evan. We were a group of six that came to this winery to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was absolutely perfect! First off, the wine was EXCELLENT. They were so unique and absolutely delicious. You can tell that the proprietors take such great pride in their product. Second, the experience was so lovely. We were seated inside and Evan taught us so much about wine and the region. It felt like such an intimate and personal experience, unlike most places where you just get a pour and maybe a two sentence description of the wine. It honestly felt like we were having our own private event. Finally, I love the ambiance here. It was so relaxing and enjoyable -- no pretension whatsoever. Just nice people making amazing wine. We were told about this small winery, and we really enjoyed it. Owner Evan is having his second career, having been in the film industry. His wines are crisp and there is a variety. He showed us the production room which housed everything needed to make the small lots. His labels list the region where the grapes are grown, and there are sixteen regions in Napa Valley. Parties are held here, and the intimacy of the size gives to a good time with a group. A few chairs and umbrellas are outside to enjoy the vineyards. Bring a snack. read more

What a gem? Simple tasting room with the owner/winemaker as host! You're also greeted and served by a very helpful and friendly host Ursula. They are dog friendly and Bella felt quite comfortable prancing around the tasting room getting aquatinted with the other guests..We enjoyed our tasting and details where the vineyards are and how the wines are made. Getting to learn about a winery from the owner is becoming a rarity in this day and age of corporate takeover. Brent is passionate about his vineyards and wine, even though it's hard work we could tell for him it's a labor of love. The quality of the wine proves this to be true. Very nice little tasting room that is just off the freeway. We arrived expecting this to be where the wines were also grown, but this was not the case. Our server referred to the vineyards surrounding the tasting room as "God's grapes" since they are owned by the nearby church. :-) We really enjoyed the wines we tried, particularly the chardonnay and pinots. We made reservations for tastings at Fogline for Memorial Day and couldn't have been more pleased with our experience! Evan, the owner of Fogline Vineyards, greeted us at the door of a very modern and large tasting room that is shared by several wineries. Our seating had been set up around a coffee table, with wine glasses, water glasses, and a carafe of water. Our reservation was for three tastings, but with a total of six in our party. Evan accommodated all of us cordially during the tasting. His knowledge of wines, grapes, and regions was impressive. He paid special attention to our friend who is allergic to alcohol, pointing out properties of wines, amines in particular, that could be the problem. Evan poured us two additional wines beyond the five on the Grand Tour Tasting menu. Our group ended up buying four bottles of wine and he charged us nothing for the three tastings. I pointed that out to him, as we still should have been charged with one tasting. (One of the reasons I had chosen Fogline was because they were offering half priced wine tasting during May). Evan comped us for that 3rd tasting, which we definitely appreciated. We enjoyed his time, as well as the facility and the wines! Newly opened October 2015. So the tasting room is still sparse. No art on the walls, no gift shop doo-dads. You're coming for the wine right? There's plenty of that to taste and purchase. And quite good quality wine it is! Bambie & I arrived during a quiet time, when there were just 4 other visitors during our 2 hour visit. 2 hours? Yep, we tasted every wine variety in the bottles AND went into the barrel room to thieve some wine in the making. As I've admitted in dozens of other winery reviews, I am a moderate wine snob. Have lived in Sonoma county on & off since 1972. I know the difference between the good stuff and the less than good. Fogline wines are better than most, even those snooty / self important wines that cost 3X more. My recommendations here: The chardonnay, the Sonoma coast pinot noir & the zinfandel. All are fruit flavor driven, are fairly low in acid & tannins. Bottle prices for these range from $24 to $36. Join the wine club for a 20% discount. If you're a visitor from far away, shipment price for a case is $35. We actually stumbled upon this winery when we were on our way to Kendall Jackson. The newly opened tasting room specializes in Pinots and so of course I was sold before we even walked through the door. The owner/winemaker was there and we had a very enjoyable 2 hour experience tasting everything he produces. So, we loved their Pinot Noir and happily joined their wine club. This is a brand new tasting room that opened last month. The winemaker and owner Evan was pouring two Chardonnays, several pinots, a Zin and a Syrah. ALL the wine I tasted was really good! The grapes were from the Petaluma gap, middle reach, and alexander valley (not sure on the last area). My favorite was the pinot from middle reach, it had an awesome cherry cola flavor to it. The tasting room has 2000 sq ft upstairs that Evan wants to turn into an art gallery in the future. Evan was super nice/friendly/knowledgeable. He used to work for Pixar but decided to pursue his passion of winemaking. We also have something in common, we each have a son that is obsessed with minecraft. Evan was playing minecraft music during the tasting. Evan says he is kid and dog friendly which is great! I think I will visit again soon with my son and husband. My bachelorette party had an intensely wonderful time at fogline after having a terrible experience at a nearby bigger winery (cough cough, KJ). All 10 of us were helped by Sharon(?) who was amazing and friendly and goes by "wine goddess". Yasss. The wines were flavorful and delicious and wine goddess took her time talking through the wines which is like the whole point of tastings right?! My favorite was the old vine zin. Freaking heavenly. After our tasting we hung out in front by the picnic tables and bocce court to finish our glasses, and to our surprise the owner came out and hung out with is! He was awesome and sweet and put up with my tipsy bridesmaids and their off the wall small talk. I highly recommend a stop here, and will definitely come back when I'm in The area! read more

Disclaimer: I am not a sommelier or wine aficionado. I am just a guy who likes what he likes. Therefore, I am simply not qualified to provide an in depth critique of any wine. Then again, I am not a chef, so maybe I should just keep my restaurant opinions to myself. But where's the fun in that... I have been here twice now. The first time, I was in Santa Rosa for just a few days. My wife and I bought some wine at another winery and needed a box to take it back on the plane. I went to a large, corporate winery that shall remain nameless but whose initials are KJ to see if I could get a box. I was completely ignored by the staff in their fancy uniforms. So, I left. I saw Fogline down the road and stopped in to see if they could help me out. No fancy uniforms or pretension here. The person behind the counter was very helpful, and gave me a free taste just because I said I wanted to buy a shipping box from them. The Pinot I tried was delicious. Very smooth, not too sweet, light, and refreshing. She also let me try one of their Zinfandels. It was also very nice with some good pepper flavor. I ended up buying a bottle of each to add to my box. I enjoyed both bottles very much. I went back to Fogline again to get some wine to ship. There was a different person behind the counter this time, but he was just as friendly and unpretentious as the person I met on my first trip. I had decided I might want to join their wine club (minimum 4 bottles purchase three times per year with a 10% discount). Again I was treated to a free tasting because I was making a purchase. Again I enjoyed the wines I tried. Because it was my first purchase as a wine club member, I received 20% off the entire purchase. Nice. Like I said, I can't provide you with a big flowery critique of the wines at Fogline. What I can tell you is the wine tastes good to me. The fact that this is a small winery and not some huge Disneyesque corporate operation also goes a long way with me. I am looking forward to some of the perks of being in the wine club like the private tastings and free tastings for friends and family who are visiting. I hope Fogline and the other little wineries in Sonoma County stay true to their small, customer oriented business model. I will certainly continue to try to support those businesses. Evan, the winemaker, is both brilliant and down to earth. The tasting covered most of the portfolio, and the discriptions were spot on. Based on the location, in the heart of the Russian River Valley, I chose to focus on the chards and pinots (I'm know the zins are fantastic in this area, but they're not my cup of tea). Two of my faves: 1) The chard, though employing malolactic fermentation, was astonishingly crisp, tart and dry, but balanced. Not even the faintest hint of butter. 2) The single vineyard Russian River Valley pinot, utilizing Starscape vineyard grapes, was among the very finest pinots I've ever had. I read a tasting note that called it "muted", but that couldn't be further from the truth. I got soft, elegant, plum, with a touch of ripe cherry. Fruit forward and just tannic enough that one might lay it down for a couple years, but definitely ready to drink. A perfect example of what makes the pinots in this region world class. A gem that sits in the open, right off the 101, on River Road and Fulton, Fogline needs to be put on your list of places to visit. read more

Fogline vineyards is a small, premium producer of simply outstanding Pinot Noir wine. This is what they are known for... and with obvious reason! Of course, I enjoy their zinfandel too as well as the very limited availability Chardonnay. But it is the Pinot that brings me back. My biggest problem is that I don't buy enough to have any stick around long enough to let them really achieve their grace through aging. I tend to drink them too fast. But that is OK. Brent and Evan are passionate about their craft and free with their stories of how they make their wines and the special effort they put into crafting the very best hand-made, limited production wines. If you ever have the chance, get Evan to start talking Pinot clones whiles climbing around on the barrel racks! I learned so much in the 60 minutes he spent with us. I hear they are opening a tasting room. Wish I were in town to go check it out. I would certainly put them on the list to visit - you can't go wrong. read more
