a glass of wine and a bottle of wine
    Anna V.

The wines here are truly exceptional and well priced. The winemaker and owner, Evan, is an absolutely brilliant and delightful person! Very talented at finding wines you'd like in varietals you think you didn't like! Definitely one of the top winery experiences at this little gem. My sister and I (and both of our dogs) had a very awesome and educational experience here! I'd definitely return next time I'm in the area. Thanks for everything, Evan!

A nice little vineyard with one of the most welcoming owner! We showed up without reservation while they were having limited tables due to renovations but managed to get the table for 4 anyway. Got an amazing experience with some awesome knowledge about wine from Evan. I've always been a Pinot person but somehow came back home with a bottle of Zin. Their wines were good, some had really interesting taste profile. The wine tasting experience was so much better with all the knowledge and side stories from Evan. Definitely see myself going back when they're done with their renovations.

We are not regular wine tasters, owner was patient with us, and suggested the perfect wine for our taste buds. Also recommend good dinner place while we are visiting. I highly recommend!

    Self explanatory.

We were told about this small winery, and we really enjoyed it. Owner Evan is having his second career, having been in the film industry. His wines are crisp and there is a variety. He showed us the production room which housed everything needed to make the small lots. His labels list the region where the grapes are grown, and there are sixteen regions in Napa Valley. Parties are held here, and the intimacy of the size gives to a good time with a group. A few chairs and umbrellas are outside to enjoy the vineyards. Bring a snack.

What a gem? Simple tasting room with the owner/winemaker as host! You're also greeted and served by a very helpful and friendly host Ursula. They are dog friendly and Bella felt quite comfortable prancing around the tasting room getting aquatinted with the other guests..We enjoyed our tasting and details where the vineyards are and how the wines are made. Getting to learn about a winery from the owner is becoming a rarity in this day and age of corporate takeover. Brent is passionate about his vineyards and wine, even though it's hard work we could tell for him it's a labor of love. The quality of the wine proves this to be true. Stop in and check out the Pinot Noir and the Rockpile Zin!

**************************** REVIEW 889 ******************************** Fogline Vineyards is both a winery and a concept. Launched in 2009, they make small lots of Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Syrah and Chardonnay. Their home vineyard is located in the Sonoma Coast appellation, at the top of Sonoma Mountain. This area of the Sonoma Coast is known as the Petaluma Gap, noteworthy for the wind and fog that blows in through a gap in the costal hills. These conditions create the distinct environment needed to grow world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In addition, we source fruit from the top of Bradford Mountain in the Dry Creek Valley appellation. At 1200 feet of elevation, this organically grown vineyard produces Zinfandel and Syrah with distinct mountain-grown characteristics. Winemaker Evan Pontoriero was so awesome. It was such a joy to talk to him and hear his works on the wines, how much love and passion he puts in. - Fogline vineyards 2010 Pinot Noir Russian Valley was amazing. Delicious now, this will be a very smooth, delicate, beautiful wine for those patient enough to put it away in their cellars. 165 cases produced. - Fogline vineyards 2011 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast was equally beautiful - this wine possesses a darker fruit bouquet than either our Sun Chase or Floodgate Pinot Noirs. The elevation of the vineyards helps maintain the bright fruit and structural qualities we have come to expect while creating a broader mid-palate. Only 23 cases produced. SOLD OUT - 2011 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay - Zephyr's Block - Crisp and refreshing with bright citrus, pear and melon notes, this wine is balanced with subtle spice, clean minerality and hints of toasted oak. We look forward to sharing this with our closest friends and supporters as a taste of what is to come. Unfined and unfiltered. A blend of Old Wente and Dijon 76 clones. 13.4% ABV. 24 cases produced. SOLD OUT You can find Fogline vineyards wines at some of these fine restaurants in the Bay Area: Baker & Banker, Fluer de Lys, Parallel 37, Saison, AQ, La Follie and Le Papillon. Their wines are usually SOLD OUT on the same month it releases, so to get a hand on these wines, get on their mailing list and wait for your chance. P.S. Tasting room is not open to the public

The reds were a pinot noir and zinfandel, but neither really stuck to me. For the whites, it was a sauvignon blanc and chardonnay. The chardonnay was okay but the sauvignon blanc was my favorite out of all 4. Not only does it smell sweet and fruity, but it also tastes like it! I ended up buying a bottle of it to bring home ($35 if you're not a member). Our wine was paired with 12 spreads. All of them were delicious and some were even quite unique, like the sweet pea one! My favorites were the brie, carrot, and rhubarb spreads. Not really sure if I concluded on which spread paired the best with which wine, but they were nice snacks to munch on. If you're seated outdoors, you get a nice view of the vineyard as well as some mountains. There also looked to be some pedal powered trolley, which we saw a group doing but didn't do it ourselves.

Parking lot was empty and thought they were closed but decided to take a peek anyways, and lo and behold the lights were on and the door open. I was greeted by a super cool dude who didn't seem the typical tight and stuffy wine country host. I was an able to sit at a bar setting, told the details of their tasting (price, tasting line-up, fees waived if wine purchased etc). For a $25 fee (which was waived at the end cuz I always buy a couple of bottles) I was able to taste at least 5 different wines with a bonus at the end. I was also given a small ramekin of macadamia nuts, which I've never had with a wine tasting. But totally works because these nuts are very hearty and full of rich oils which counter the acidic and tannic nature of wines. Dude then plays some tunes from his personal playlist as their main sound system seemed to not be working that day and it was straight music that I personally dig. Lol. And for a full hour no one else came in which was a new experience for me. We just sat there as he poured and educated me on each of their wines and we just casually talked about random cool things, so not bogged down with wine banter. At the end I walked out with 3 new bottles, wine country air on blast and a nice dinner looming just a half mile down the road. One of the best laid back wine tasting experiences I've ever had. #luckyducky

There's plenty of parking available, and it looks beautiful and rustic. We asked if they were open, and she responded with an annoyed, "Yeah?" She was the only one working that day, and told us there's seating in the back which we had no idea of. From that point on, our tasting experience lacked connection and excitement. W I N E: I really wanted to like them, but everything was just too strong for me, or the taste didn't surprise me. We asked if there were other options for me to taste, but we were told everything was sold out or they didn't have anything else opened. The history of this winery can be traced back to the 1920s, when a rich mining family moved west from Michigan and purchased the land where it sits on. The winery business actually started in the 1970s by several businessmen from the San Joaquin Valley. 50+ years later, it remains one of the more recognizable names in the NorCal wine industry. I got here with my buddy David A. and his wife at around 4:15pm. The first thing that struck me was the tranquility. I was dealing with a major protest in my city that morning, so the peacefulness was truly appreciated by me. Aside from that, nature's beauty was on full display. The sky was blue, the hills were green, and the temperature was a perfect 72F. Sarah couldn't have asked for a better day to have her wedding! The ceremony was held in a covered area near the chateau, with seating set up for 100-150 guests. After the ceremony, a pre-reception cocktail party was held in the courtyard area. After about an hour or so, the dinner reception was held under the giant palm tree. The food and service for the entire event were fantastic. From appetizers to main course to desserts, the food was well prepared and delicious. Service provided by the staff was friendly and attentive. There were a couple minor hitches during the reception, but they resolved them quickly. Chateau St. Jean is definitely worth checking out if you are in the area. As a non-drinker, I don't know enough about their wine to have an opinion on their quality, but I think you will really enjoy the serene setting.
