(split system) Ordered a unit that was suppose to have a air purifier filter and a UV light sanitizer (to keep machine clean) built into the unit. Upon running the system for a day or two we started noticing an ordor coming from the unit permiating the house (Christmas day), and reailized it was coming from the newly installed unit...turned off the unit and smell went away. Called ARS they claimed it wasn't their unit and that we needed to get the ducts cleaned... Called a company to come get ducts cleaned and upon surveying the unit the cleaning guy stated that we didn't have the air purifier on the unit that was supposed to have been installed in the unit upon installation, and when he went to inspect unit one of the screws came off the unit in his hand (it was stripped), and the hole under the air handler wasn't sealed. And didn't think the vents needed to be cleaned. Then the rounds of calls started, needless to say, after calling the company, and the area manager multiple times, and not getting any kind of resolve the whole until will be dismantled and removed from my house I do not want it nor their excueses...or lack there of... Again DO NOT ACCEPT ANY KIND OF "PROMO" or servcie contract from these guys....they won't stand by their product or hold to any kind of customer service standard(s). read more

started out as routine check of unit-cust service broke part and when he try to fix it broke another part-had to wait a week-long story short - cust service came to the house 4 times and did more damaged each time and we had to wait a week between getting part each time - we are elder couple - ARS didn't even offer fans, hotel room-nothing as of this time we are still waiting for a part to fix the problem-going on 4 weeks of no AC - we have been doing business w/them for over 21 years and this is the way we are treated - they always have a reason NOTE our unit if only 5 years old- read more

Run to another HVAC service company! First - had a new HVAC installed without issue- excellent service. I later inquired about a new rebate our utility company was offering on new upgraded replacement units. I called five times before finally getting a person to speak with about the rebate. Second - had a new unit placed in another property and have had no less than seven service calls in the first two weeks from install! Twice the heat has come pouring out during 90+ degree summer weather. Other times, the AC won't turn off, - apparently all of this related to primarily "wiring issues", although the first thermostat was faulty as well as a Freon leak was discovered in the new unit. Now waiting for the service tech to come out again......I will say all of the technicians have been pleasant, however the office personnel have been very non responsive..... read more

Called ARS on 5/16/16 at 4:40 pm, "yes sir we can get someone right out there". 30 minutes later I get a call " Hi, this is C _ _ _ _ _ with ARS, can we dispatch our technician?" yes please do. Ok, they will be there in thirty minutes Ok Great,,, thanks so much. At 7:20 I called back and the after hours care line put me through to a technician who claims they know nothing of a call. exact words "we aingotno idea what dispatch dun dit". The next day today 5/17/16 they come out and the blower motor is out. It is a $346.00 at carrier and they sell it $692.00, wow now that's a steal huh. But wait we will install the motor, labor tax and all for $1513.57. Holy cow, I speak to Gregg at ARS and he says that number doesn't seem right.. after call back he says we'll do the motor for $650.00, if you buy our ultra violet """super super duper germinator"""" air quality system for $800.00. and the home service plan for a $160.00. So in the end a $346.00 motor with ARS roto rooter will cost you nearly 5 times as much. They have a vast difference in what they consider to be the roto rooter because you get rotorooted. needless to say ARS roto rooter can go F*&^ themselves. beware folks,,, scam scam city. they pride themselves on being fair. Would give zero stars if possible. Completely mismanaged company. A week ago, I scheduled a routine service appointment due to a Home Depot coupon. The associate scheduled it for this morning, Memorial Day. I inquired about the holiday and was told that "the team was working normal hours". Three hours later, I received a call that the tech was on his way - five days early. Could not meet him so the schedule was rescheduled with a different associate back to today, Memorial Day morning. But the manager has not responded to a single email that I sent (at least 7 over the course of a few weeks asking for an update). So despite what ARS advertises, they do not offer 100% customer satisfaction. I stand by my original post, DO NOT USE ARS/RESCUE ROOTER! There are many HVAC companies in the Charleston area and I would call those businesses before ever doing business with ARS again. Very upset with this company. Contracted to instal a Y split a/c system on my sun porch. They rescheduled instal with my wife twice because they did not have the system. When they did arrive to install, they could not hook up to my box because there was not enough room. We had shown the box to them at the time of the quote, so there was no secret what was needed. It took about 10 days for an electrician to show up after rescheduling once. It should be noted that each of these reschedules causes my wife to reschedule her days and obligations. The electrician said the job was too big for him, and ARS would send another company that handled installs like we needed, and they would be in touch. After no calls in a week, I went back to ARS who said they would get me someone. After a few more days of no contact, I again had to call them and they said they were having difficulty finding someone to cover our area. Another week, and several phone calls back from me, they finally told me they had found someone, but they couldn't be there for at least two weeks. Notice how I have stated several times that I had to contact them since they were not providing and information to me. I have finally told them to come remove the equipment they had originally installed like 5 weeks before so I can have a competing company install the same equipment. This is not the customer service I expected from all of their literature, web page and telephone service voicemails! read more

Recently had a water heater replaced. Paid a premium amount but they said it would be replaced same day. $2,401 I paid with check. The tech did not seem to like me paying with check. Several times he said Home Depot iPad is difficult to do checks. But that's what I wanted so he did it. After inputting my account information and routing numbers he said it was all good. I found out today that they cashed the check and also has somehow electronically billed me too. They have taken $4,802 out of my account and I have now overdrafted and have issues with house payment among other things. I essentially have no money in the bank. And they don't seem to care either. I have to wait til Monday to contact someone with ARS. Home Depot says it's ARS issue and nothing they can do. However the check was made out to Home Depot. This is absolutely horrible. I don't know what I can do about it but I expect something in return. Someone is going to pay the penalties and fees and give me my money back ASAP!!!! read more

Absolutely TERRIBLE customer service from Charleston branch. Will not return calls and don't show up when they are scheduled to. The call center is helpful and just as dumbfounded as I am that service or quality manager won't return my call. Been waiting for over a month for repairs to hvac unit they installed. Cost me $10K. Should have been a red flag that they didn't show up on day of install. I had to call in multiple times after waiting over a week in a 95degree home to find out unit was damaged and they wouldn't be coming that day. I really don't know what to say Salesman sold me on buying a new unit and his strongest selling point was their service and availability Well I purchased a full heating and air unit and the installers didn't test the drain 2 months later I realized my floor was damp looked under my house to find flooded flooring and insulation and duct work was crushed by weight of insulation I called in 7/22 to report they promised someone would come never showed finally after 3 days of no air during 90 plus weather they show up and promise to make arrangements to repair it's now 8/05 and I've gotten empty promises to resolve and no one has come by since the 25th of July I'm left waiting and calling. I have reached out to at least 4 people in the company and no one has bothered to follow up and keep their promise to resolve this li have never felt so helpless and ignored in my life Moisture builds daily, I run a fab 24/7 to try to minimize moisture and only half the duct work is usable so my unit struggles running constantly and I fear mild and mildew will be next read more

I scheduled an appointment one week in advance- I was told I would get a 30-45 minute call beforehand-as the property is at a vacant home at a different location- I called on two occasions to find out if they could give me an update of time as the window I was given was noon-5:00. On both calls I was told I was the next appointment- I waited until 5pm and never heard anything- I made myself available for 5 hours-they didn't even call this morning as a follow up- when I called I was told a voicemail was left on my phone- which it wasn't... then I was told maybe they had the wrong number???? I wish I was able to write a review without awarding any stars...even 1 is way too many. I have very serious concerns about the integrity of this firm...it may be just the people working for them and not the company itself, but last Saturday a tech came and put freon in to the A/C unit (it had stopped working and was iced up). When he left it was working and cooling as it should. Sometime on Monday it stopped again and we returned from work to a very hot house. The tech had suggested this might happen as the whole unit really needed to be replaced. We had another firm come and look at it, and to our utter shock they discovered that the coil wire had been disconnected from the contactor unit...this had to be done intentionally, it made the unit appear to be running but not cooling - like befor the ARS man arrived and what he warned might happen. But the wire cannot work itself loose and someone had to remove the panel on the unit to reach it. Since I only spoke to ARS about it I can only deduce that someone associated with them or their employees came to my home to sabotage the A/C in the belief that I would call them in to replace the 'broken' A/C. The tech from the other company told us that there is nothing WRONG with our A/C...it DOES NOT need replacing as claimed by ARS and should be good for another year with luck before we need to think about replacing it. I am know questioning other work ARS (Absolute Ripoff Service) did to my A/c, over the last 18 months I have paid them $826 for work that may not have been necessary. Last Saturday I paid them $250.00 for 2lb's of freon, yet last year their tech charged me for 5lbs that it needed to get it working....who was telling the truth? I spoke to Dave Haswell - apparently the top local guy, he was beligerent, rude, and could sorely use a customer care training course. I agree with him that this is a serious matter, I hate to think this would be something the company condones, but Joe Shmo did not just happen to wander up my front lawn, take the panel off the A/C unit, disconnect the wires, replace the panel and leave on Monday for a bit of a laugh did he? Mr Haswell has lost multiple customers due to this, I will be lodging complaints with the BBB and talking to the police...if I can prevent even one other person going through the same worry that we did this week - the forecast was for triple digit temperatures (and they were right) we thought we had no air conditioning and we certainly could not afford the $5000 their tech speculated it would take to replace it. ARS - it appears - are unscrupulous and uncaring....or is it just their employees - I have learnt they are on commission so the motivation for such behaviour is very clear. read more

I want to preface this post with the fact I have not positively or negatively reviewed a business on yelp before, I have never felt passionate enough. I scheduled a routine ac tuneup before the start of summer and was informed my hvac was deteriorating quickly and would need replaced. Not a surprise because a. That's why tuneups are marketed and cheap and b. Because my unit was old. I agreed, everything went according to plan we selected the right unit for my home and budget. The operations manager arrived at the house examined and assured me the installation would go without issue. Only problem was I could not be home during installation. (Big mistake) I never doe these kinds of things without being present at home but I decided this is why I am paying more to have a national reputable provider. I was concerned that my wood floors would be damaged during removal of my old unit, but the operations manager assured me they would go above and beyond to protect my floors. I believed him. FAst forward to the day of installation, my fiancee arrived home before me and quickly noticed something was wrong. The installation team was leaving and she did not see them removing and mats or rugs to protect the floor. When she walked into our house she noticed the over whelming smell of pledge furniture cleaner. (Another bad sign). She went on as normal. When I arrived home I inspected the work and noticed my ladder to my ceiling was severely damaged ( it was going to be a tough install so I was not surprised). However to my horror I noticed several large gashes and dents in my hallway floor. My wood floors were extremely slick and MY pledge wood furniture cleaner was laying out with a rag on top. The cabinet door under my sink was wide open. There were clearly short cuts taken to protect the hard wood floor and attempted to be covered up by my own furniture pledge. Needless to say for weeks my now dented and gouged floors were extremely slick. I tried to stay cool and figured the company would help me out. WRONG! I called the office and was directed to a lady to help with claims. She was fantastic but can not deliver results. Eventually she informed me due to extensive background checks she couldn't help me and I should look for my own wood floor repair. Disgruntled I called the ops manager, he informed me he has a players and c players during installation. Unfortunately I got the c players!!! I have intentionally been avoiding posting this to see if the company would support in the repairs but 4 months later........ nothing. No follow up or anything. They received the money the unit was installed and the y washed their hands. Shortly after the install, the nest completely stopped working, while I had my fiancées family in town. It was sweltering hot and we had to go a day without ac. This was the reason I had the new unit installed in first place, to avoid going without ac. The only positive experience I had during install and repair was the technician that came out after 23:00 the next day to replace the nest. I wish I could remember his name but he was fantastic. He had been working since early am and was supportive and efficient. Moral of the story is this, go with a local provider avoid big names such as ars as the larger corporation will not support you if something goes wrong. Be home during installation as whatever damage occurs at your home will not be fixed. In fairness to ars the unit has been working fantastic and the installation was great quality. The issue was the lack of care and professionalism to take care of the home and then own up to the mistakes. Avoid go local. Salt in the wound I was promised I would get refunded for the maintenance checkup if I chose to buy a new hvac. I bought the new hvac and they said it was too late to get refunded for the tune up?????? read more

I wish I had read the reviews before I had these people come out for a heating and AC tune up. I actually called Home Depot because they had a $49.00 tune up special. They had ARS call me to set it up. The tech came out and the first thing he said is "wow the coils are rusting, you will need a new unit soon and we can set up a few quote for you. Then he checked the Freon pressure, voltage the motor was drawing and stated it (Freon) "might be a pound or two low" but he couldn't tell because it is too cold outside and to get an accurate reading it needs to be 70 degrees outside. The tech was very polite and could have sold me Freon and I would not have known if I really needed it or not. My question to ARS is why do you come out for a "tune up" if you can't get accurate readings? I know the coils are rusting on this 7 year old Goodman unit but really a new unit? That has a big unanswered question in my mind! UPDATE: ARS came back out when the outside temperature was warmer (about 63 degrees) and checked the Freon level and found it to be perfect! Oh, there was no charge for the second service call with an agreement that if I needed Freon I would only pay for the Freon. The tech was named Doug and I will ask for him if I need service again. On the negative the dispatcher, Chris, was extremely rude and realized she was rude and apologized. Hello, the customer pays which is why you have a job....don't be rude to me. read more

THE WORST!!!! This is my 4th experience with ARS and all 4 experiences were poor. Our landlord USED ARS because they put in the AC unit and it was under warranty. They came out 3 times last year because the heat pump wouldn't get the house warm. All the tech did all 3 times was hold a thermometer up to a vent and said it was working. I finally called a friend on my own dime to look at it, and the output was disconnected from the vents. So it was doing a great job of heating the attic. Our electric bill that month was over $400 for a 1500 sq ft house. Why did I pay that much??? Because 3 different techs were to LAZY to climb a ladder. Mr friend put his had to the vent and knew what the problem was instantly. Today ARS came out because my AC isn't working. The refrigerator coil (That is under warranty) needs to be replaced, and they want to charge $1000 for labor. You can buy this cheap unit NEW on Amazon for less than a $1000. Our land lord said he is going to use someone he knows and quit giving these crooks money. THANK GOD. I'll be sure to give the next company a review and share how much it cost for the PART and service. I'm going to take a guess that it will be under $1000. read more

They hid my review on facebook.. so I'm going to continue to post my experience to every media. Updates: Install start 6/21/17 with constant issues. 6/26 the supposed finished but condenser still failed to work properly after 3 visits. Continued issues still ongoing.. 7/7/2016. Bathroom was never connected to AC supply line. Air handler / condenser freeon line freezes up. The story: Person sent for installation refused to listen. They cut holes in walls that weren't required due to being able to remove sheetrock. Proceeded to tell me that they required cutting holes for the new duct work because they could not remove the old ducts due to sprayed insulation. (False) Tech cut holes in the floor wherever he wanted at first without asking approval of position. Installed new air supplys to each of the new holes and refused to listen on the screw size and how the duct should sit in the hole. My vents now have scratches on them due to said screw size. Two of the air supplies do not even work because of the way they routed the air supplies from the metal box they created for duct work. The install person then proceeded to tell me he has to install a fan to push the air to those two ducts and I'll have to get a quote and pay for that as well. (Air flow possible before and not furthest ducts from air handler) Quote from the company was incredibly high compared to actual material cost / labor required. Current status.. 2.5 ton 15 seer handler w/ heat pump and condenser that is extremely loud when on (air handler has a sucking air noise), makeshift duct work that I personally could have done better on (actually tied up per code now), air supplies that could be acquired at lowes still not properly attached at floor holes, extra holes in the floor from previous ducts, and sheetrock laying against a wall that has been cut. Price: $9000 later.. said energy efficient and quiet system I wouldn't have to worry anything about has become an annoyance. Air professional was polite and stern. Workers weren't worth dealing with. They definitely wont tell you what you need to know about ac units or quoting prices before hand. 15 seer is standard now.. just not enforced. Air handler w/ heat pump and condenser was found online for $2000. R6 air supplys are on lowes for $50 Average cost of supplies for job was around $4000.. labor definitely wasn't $5000. Do not use. These guys charge way too much!! My A.C. quit working so I called them, they installed my A.C. a little over a year ago. The service man came out it the specified time slot. He took a quick look in my attic and said that appear normal. He then the compressor out side he came back and went out to his truck for a part he said it was a bad capacitor. He came back in and the new capacitor did the trick. Then he presented me with a bill. $59. for the service call and $180. for the capacitor! I demanded that he leave me the old capacitor he refused! I took a photo of it and paid the bill under great protest. The next day I called A.C. parts warehouse I have used before. The guy that answer the phone said they had that exact capacitor in stock. I asked him what the cost was and he said less than $9. read more

This company replaced our two units three years ago and we've had them out no less than 3 times a year for one thing or another, each visit costing hundreds. After attempting to engage our downstairs heat this past week, of course it would not turn on. We called Tweedy's Heating and Air of Mt pleasant. In no less than 5 minutes, the technician discovered the gas turned OFF to the downstairs unit. No one has been in our attic in over a year other than ARS, much less to manipulate the gas lever. They came out to give my elderly Mother an estimate to replace her A/C unit yesterday. It started at $10,300 and worked down to $7400. I never mentioned the price, just told him that she would have to think about it, that's a lot of money to spend without putting some thought in it. WELL, the salesman called her back today and offered to drop the price to $6900 if she would sign the paperwork today. I'm glad I was involved because they probably would have gotten her at the $10,000 dollar price. Don't do business with people that take advantage of our elderly. read more

I told her a refund of $90 would do it for me. She agreed to do so. Not only did they send me $90, they did it via overnight FedEx. I call that an extraordinary, customer-focused response. My husband set up installation of a kitchen faucet, disposal, and hot water tap through Home Depot who contracted the work out to ARS. The PO was clear that this was not a routine install and would require extra work. My appointment was between 8-12 on a Friday. By 11a I had not heard anything so I called. They told me it would be between 3-4p. At 345p I called and they did now have a time the plumber would be coming. He arrived at 445p and did not have all the required materials and even had to FaceTime with my husband to figure some things out. He did not finish until 1045p and then I was charged a fee on top of the already paid PO that included all the quoted materials and labor. My whole day was wasted (and I flew into town for this installation as we are renovating from out of state). Would not recommend or use them again. read more

If everything they did was perfect, they would've earned that 5th star, but otherwise, I recommend them and I will continue to use them. I've used them for several projects and have been pleased overall. There have been one or two times that technicians didn't come during their scheduled time, but, this was more of an annoyance, not a show stopper for me (thus, minus one star). Otherwise, they've been very dependable, professional, know their products and services, and have skilled techs. And, for cost, when they quoted me a service, it fell in the middle of the 3-4 quotes from others. When they installed my tankless water heater, I provided the tank and they did the install, saving me several thousand dollars. I was very satisfied with the install though they need to return to correct how the valves were installed, but, this is cosmetic and only affects installing a cover over the valves, not the function of the system- they are not charging me for this service (covered by the one year warranty). If they fail to meet my expectations on this service, I will note it here. Otherwise, I am confident they will show as scheduled and perform the service. read more

Will not use ARS again. Bought a water heater through Home Depot and used their contracting services to install. They only use ARS. I scheduled an estimate appointment for an afternoon (12pm-4pm) block of time. They did not show up during their scheduled time and did not call. 3.5 hours later the technician shows up while we are eating dinner. He apologizes and is quick with an estimate. He claims he was not aware dispatch had not informed us he was running late. OK. We call back to schedule install and repair of tub faucet. The lady schedules me for a morning install (8am-12pm) and states she will have my house as first one on list to be done. Once again no call and no show during scheduled time. Technician calls me close to 7pm and wants to know if I still want him to come out... He comes out and installs water heater. Does not fix tub and takes apart the kitchen sink faucet and throws some parts away (after washing his hands) stating it will work better. Kitchen sink faucet has not worked properly since. The spray nozzle will not switch spray modes anymore and I can't even reinstall the parts he threw away. I am sure I will have to replace the unit now. I have no confidence in ARS. I had to hire a different company to complete the tub valve replacement. This second company scheduled a two hour window for the work and called an hour before to let me know they were on the way. They arrived on time, completed all the work requested and walked me through an inspection of their completed job. They even cleaned and swept up after themselves. They earned my future business and recommendation. This is how ARS should have done their job, instead, their lack of customer concern lost any future business. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME!!! I called ARS at 10am for a sewage backup in my office building and they said they'd schedule me as an on call and that someone should arrive at my office "this morning" and that a tech would call me when in route. At noon I had not heard anything from ARS so I called them back. I was told we were next in line for service for our assigned SENIOR technician. At 2pm still NOTHING. I called back and they advised me that a dispatcher would call me. At 2:30pm still NOTHING. I explained to the office person that I HAD to leave by 3:45pm to attend to my children and that if they couldn't make it and complete the job then I needed to be added to their schedule for FIRST THING Saturday morning. The dispatcher never called so I called back and was told dispatch would find out what's going on and call me back....STILL NOTHING. Then at 3:34 I get a call from the technician that he is at my office. I never received the 30 minute advance call I was told I was getting. At 5:40 he tells my boss, who had to stay late, that he couldn't fix the problem (mind you he's a SENIOR technician) and he'd have to bring someone else back. Needless to say we had confirmation for a 10am appointment on Saturday. At 10:30 I called ARS and was informed the technician was in route 30 mins AFTER my appointment. I explained my frustration to the CSR and she advised she was in Myrtle Beach but relay my message to the Charleston office. I FINALLY received a call back from the Charleston Office for them to tell me 30 minutes after my appointment time that the technician is "running late" because he was "stuck in traffic" and he would be here by 11am. Let's just say I was not pleased to get a call back 30 minutes after my appointment time and only AFTER I called them. Then I was told they don't make specific appointments only appointment windows and apparently mine was 8a-12p. The only thing that was pleasant about the entire experience is the technician from the Saturday appointment was a pleasant man. I'm not sure if they fixed the issue or not but giving up my Saturday for an issue that should have been fixed on a Friday during normal business hours confirms I will not be using them again. read more

I called ARS to wire a Nest Thermostat. All that was needed was a single wire. I was quoted around $160 to set up this Common Wire. This was more than it should have been, but fine, whatever. The guy spends 15 minutes hooking it up. He then starts talking about how old the hvac system is. He hooks his gauges to the heat pump outside and says I'm low on refrigerant. None of this is a surprise, I knew how old the system was. He writes up the visit detailing the wiring work and what the system needs. Shows me the tablet for payment, zoomed in on the wording of the work done. Like an idiot, I provide the card info without seeing the bill, because I trusted what he said earlier. No emailed receipt is received. I notice a $269 charge later that day. I have to call them and request a copy of the receipt. While on the phone I was told that I was charged for the wiring and 2-4 pounds of refrigerant. Absolutely no work was done there. My system is still low on the refrigerant. I requested a call from the manager. I waited a day for that call that never came. I called them back, explained the issue and was told someone would call me soon. No one called. Part of this is on me for not verifying what I was told, but I'm a trusting person. Too bad that ARS takes advantage of people. read more

These folks have terrible customer service. My water heater popped a seal & drained all over my house. My home warranty service couldn't find a vendor to service my water heater so they gave me the OK to hire anyone and pay them myself - then I'd be refunded by my home warranty company. I got ARS on the phone & they said they could get someone onsite within the hour - the moment I mentioned my home warranty, suddenly I had to wait 3 days until I could even schedule an appointment! I explained that I would be paying them & they wouldn't even have to deal w/ my home warranty company - they didn't care. The ARS lady even copped a serious attitude about it! ARS had a technician available immediately, but decided that I could wait 4 days without hot water. STAY AWAY!!! They pulled the same deal this summer when it was 99 degrees outside and my AC died. They initially said someone would be onsite in 1-2 hours, then I ended up waiting 3 days until someone showed up! Stay Away from these jokers - they are too big of a company to give a damn about you. read more
