Ordered 3 lattes, 1 iced black sesame, hot ube & regular latte. Ube latte 1/5 - looked like ube but did not taste one bit like ube. Black sesame 1/5 - tasted like a regular latte like how other reviews mentioned, no black sesame flavor whatsoever Regular latte 3/5 - decent, coffee was pretty good Service was good, small cafe. Good ambience.

Ive had them at the palo alto farmers market before and have always wanted to come back. I really love their decaf americano. Its so smooth and one of the best decaf coffees ive had. Their pastries are also amazing and made by the same girl at all locations- i cant remember the name but she's so talented! Its one of the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had, and we also had the raspberry donut too The ambience was really peaceful on a Sunday morning while we were on our way to the farmers market. Def a cute little pit stop if you're going on your way there!

They're probably right to close at 4PM every day, but if they would just stay open until at least 6PM, I might be more of a regular here. After all, it's a much needed coffee spot where facing the line at Peet's is your likely alternative. They also offer quite a small bites menu, very carb heavy starting with the locally popular Boichik Bagels with various spreads and toppings. They also offer toasts, egg bites, and of course, pastries. I appreciate they set up counter seating and a few sidewalk tables. However, since I've been here only close to closing, seats were usually occupied by immobile derrières. Because I am a latecomer, I usually get a simple $5 Drip Coffee simply because sweetened lattes don't appeal to me unless I'm on vacation (Photo). I have to say service has been wildly variable here. I was greeted by a chipper barista on one visit but then another time, ignored by a surly one resentful of handling the multiple orders before me. Oh well, at least she got to go home at a reasonable hour. COFFEE - 3 stars...an inoffensive cup of joe AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...they do what they can with the limited space SERVICE - 3 stars...I'll split the difference on this one TOTAL - 3 stars...more for morning sippers RELATED - Exploring Solano Avenue? Raspberry glazed lemon poppyseed scone

The normal coffeehouse I visit on Solano was late opening this Saturday morning, so I decided to drive up Solano and see what I could find. SO GLAD I DID!!! Signal is a small spot but with a big punch! I'm always happy to find a spicy/Mexican mocha and they have it. Fairly mild with cinnamon as the spice, but still warming to start the day on a cool morning. The big surprise was their pastries! Raspberry glazed lemon poppy scone?!?! Are you kidding me?!?! Soft and not too sweet. Only wish I had asked them to heat it up. Just a good reason to return another day. And when I do, I'll be sure to order ahead! And also try their ube latte!! My morning is not complete unless I stop at THIS Signal for my extra hot dulce de leche latte. Audrey always greets me by name with a smile that warms my soul and Brittany's perfect pulls warm my belly. I go to many coffee shops around the country as I travel a ton for work busy this is truly one of the best around. It's cozy and bright and I've had meetings and hangouts here so basically the perfect spot for everything. Definitely check it out if you haven't. Highly recommend it.

Great little spot hidden on Solano. I had the Ube latte, had a great creamy texture due to the richness of the Ube. It wasn't too sweet and kept a subtle flavor. They also have a great selection of coffee beans for the enthusiast and it comes with a free 12 oz coffee!

    Breakfast sandwich

$12.50 and 20 minutes for a three bite breakfast sandwich, with just egg, cheese, and slaw.

Signal coffee has great coffee. But this is Berkeley California. There are a ton of good coffee shops. There's lots of good coffee. But nowhere else has Audrey and Kylie. These two coffee maestros I see every single day (sometimes twice a day, my wife and I have a terrible caffeine addiction, pray for us). Audrey and Kylie are efficient when they gotta be efficient but, when there is a little bit of a slow moment they make great conversation. At Signal the coffee is always great, the ambiance is nice (can't go wrong on Solano) but the service is incredible. The service is why I come back, I feel comfortable here.

    Mexican mocha
    Darah M.

Mexican Mocha (iced) $7.50 EI porteno Empanada 8.50 With tax and tip: $17 Was it worth it? Mexican mocha was good. I asked for one pump of the Mexican mocha to lessened the sweetness. It has all the spices. I wonder if this would have been better hot. The ice version was tasty. I think the price is a bit too much for me. Likely, I won't order it again. The empanada was delicious. I ordered the chard and gruyere one. There are three other ones. (See photo of menu). It was a bit burnt and when I turned it over, a part of the bottom was missing. I'm guessing it stuck to the oven pan. Despite all that, it was still yummy. Would I order it again? Since I don't come here often, I'll try another kind empanada. The price is a bit much for me. This a cute coffee spot. There is seating inside and out. I'm glad I came here a nice and sunny day.

Iced Ube latte with oat milk

I came here before lunchtime and it's such a cute little coffee shop on the Solano. The service was quick and the barista were friendly. I ordered an iced ube latte with oat milk and the ube flavor was pretty subtle. It wasn't too sweet, which I liked. Sometimes I order ube lattes from other places and it's overly sweet but here, the sweetness was just right!

Love Artis Coffee!…read more My wife and I haven't been on Fourth Street Berkeley in a long long time! Thankfully while doing some shopping and after a great meal at Divan Restaurant a few block away we popped into Artis Coffee. Wow! It was after 4 pm but what the hell, I ordered a cappuccino and my wife order a defca cappuccino, several pastries and took in the HUGE space! Our cashier was very friendly and appreciated our humor and debate on whether to have a "decaffeinated" cappuccino or not. I convince my wife to order one and she loved loved loved it! My "hi test" cappuccino was spectacular, smooth and perfect! Honestly, It took me back to Roma where we had aour honeymoon 22 years ago! Bella! Artis opened on December 7, 2013 and is located on the northern end of the Fourth Street Shops (a.k.a. Fourth Street Berkeley). This is a fairly spacious cafe with an industrial/warehouse, minimalist look. During my afternoon visit, it was busy inside and out on the covered patio. Lots of people on their laptops. Artis roasts their own coffee. Service was fine. I got a side eye from the cashier/barista when I asked where the water station was (it was my first time and I was unfamiliar with this place), but they were nice and polite otherwise. The water pressure at the self-serve faucet was too strong and sprayed water everywhere. Good for a coffee fix if you're in the area.

Baristas explained that they are up for trying different and sometimes unusual combinations for their customers. I wasn't adventurous this time, but it made me want to explore in the future. I came here to work, hoping for a relatively warm and cozy spot that wasn't too sleepy. I was not disappointed. The wifi was good, music was fun and unobtrusive. Decorations and layout gave a friendly, welcoming environment. Not only were the benches and padded chairs comfy, the ambiance was kept even in the bathroom. Spacious, warm lighting, cute bathroom with a great mirror and cool sink. I don't ever ding places for hospital-looking bathrooms (you know, fluorescent lights, questionable floors, sand paper toilet paper...) but this was one of the few where I was impressed. I tried their Lemon Blossom Latte because I've never seen this flavor of latte at any other store and it was good!
