a happy birthday van cake
Kellie K.

This is my new go-to place for cakes. I love how they are not too sweet and are filled with tons of fruit. David and his wife are every sweet and very accommodating. Their specialty is wedding cakes and custom cakes. They have petite fours and some undecorated cakes for those of us who don't like to preorder and just pick something up. I never preorder and just pop in to grab a cake. David and his staff decorated the cake in front of me at top speed. Totally awesome. They also offer those designs that you would find at a typical American grocery store but that's not their specialty. Remember, custom and wedding cakes are their specialty. Don't go order a plain cake and complain if it didn't come out right.

Art Bakery has been my family's (and friends) go-to bakery for years! They have the best tasting cakes period. I wouldn't dare go anywhere else. Over the past 10+ years they have made my wedding cake, baby shower cake, birthday cakes, and so on! The cakes are ALWAYS moist and never overly sweet like grocery store or other bakery cakes.

8" layered cake with assorted fruits

My office wanted to do something different than the American-style birthday cake. One of my co-workers suggested the popular Asian cake with the fruit on top. I think everyone was on-board because it was different and thinking outside the box. I was recommended to Art Bakery and had sampled their cakes at my niece's 1st birthday. When I called them to ask a few questions, their business line was automatically forwarded to a mobile number, most likely David's. I found it odd since I called during normal business hours? Maybe he was the only one there at the time or making a delivery... Later that week, I came in their bakery to ask questions and place my order. Their entry lobby was rather small; they had a couple of trays of petite fours on display. It's not a bakery where you see an elaborate display of baked goods and eat your sweets while hanging out with your friends. I knew right then their primary business is wedding and special cake orders. I peeked in the back where they assemble their cakes, and it took up the majority of their bakery too. (Had to, since no one heard me coming in the door.) They have a couple of photo albums of their previously made cakes to browse through. Judging by the size of the albums, they have done a LOT of work. Although Nancy was very helpful asking for detailed information, I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. I think she got a little annoyed when I wanted to review my order the second time. I recommend bringing a picture to help describe what you want. I ordered a two-layered 8" round white cake with whipped frosting, decorated with assorted fruit on top, strawberry filling and sliced almonds on the side. Just to let you know, they expect you to put money down no matter how much the total cost will be. My 8" cake was only $35. Also, I asked David for a delivery fee quote and he estimated $35 as well. But I think he was annoyed because maybe he assumed I would pick up the cake myself? My office was only about 10 minutes away, and I didn't mind. On the day of our celebration, picking up the cake was a breeze. It was chilling in the display window. There weren't as much sliced almonds as I anticipated, but the fruit arrangement was pretty. However the kiddy "Happy Birthday" was not appropriate for the adults; it was tacky. My co-workers thought the cake was really good. Light airy frosting and with the natural sweetness from fresh fruits. It was nice to break away from the heavy German Chocolate or Yellow Cake. I still wished I was more informed from the beginning. I understand they are a small business, but even a website would be helpful learning about what flavors they can make with icing and filling options. I'm not sure if their website is: artbakerygarland.com ? Some detailed price points would be helpful to know in advance too (i.e. serving size, layers, delivery fee, rush fee, etc.) Yes, I know, I know... I chose not to leave a message on David's mobile number, but that is not how I place catering/food orders. I rather know the bakery is still open for business, which was why I made a personal visit during my lunch break. The next time I order from them, it would be for a party with family/friends. Even during my first visit I made it obvious it was my first time there, but maybe they expected me to know what I'm doing and get out. I didn't appreciate being treated like an idiot just because I asked a few questions. I don't expect much professionalism from them, but you get for what you pay here.

I'm reviewing this Garland bakery because the Irving location has closed :( However, both were operated by the same owners :) This is a top-notch bakery with gorgeous cakes! Both my sister and I got our bridescakes made by Art Bakery for our weddings (hers from Garland, mine from Irving) and several birthday cakes. They offered a light chiffon-style cake that isn't as sweet (as is traditional for an Asian-style bakery) in a variety of flavors. For my wedding cake, I was able to give them a picture of what I wanted and PRESTO, they created a gorgeous cake with the exact details I envisioned! Oh and for a crazy wedding day, they took care of everything and the cake showed up without a worry. These guys are pro fo sho! Hooray for their mad decoration skillz and reasonable prices too!

Today I got a build-a-pie. You heard it right. I got a little of everything that added up to a full pie. This place is like grandma's on steroids. My favorite is the coconut cream pie. Always thick, creamy and delicious. Piecrust can't be beat. If you like a traditional pie. She always has the basic staples plus lots of new and exciting flavor combinations.. Follow her on Instagram for daily specials. Wish I lived in town and could visit more often. If you want to have a pie for the holiday, be sure to order ahead. The window typically closes a week or two out. Staff is always friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, and ever so helpful. Cherri dispositions abound at this Sweet establishment. You'll probably even meet the owner, TRACY. She's definitely involved and keeps things running smoothly. Everyone knows about this place. If you haven't been be sure to stop by. An absolute gem in Richardson -- we'll definitely be back!…read more La Casita Bakeshop completely exceeded our expectations. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was warm and welcoming, and our server Diana made the whole experience. She was knowledgeable, genuinely enthusiastic about the menu, and so pleasant to talk to -- exactly the kind of hospitality that turns a good meal into a great one. The food itself was outstanding. We ordered the French Toast and the Birria Brisket Croque Madame, and both were incredible -- beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The Croque Madame especially blew us away; it's the kind of dish you think about after you leave. The side hash rounded it all out perfectly. And then there are the pastries. We grabbed the Mango Sticky Rice Cream Puff and the Amaretto Cherry Basque Cheesecake Brownie from the Weekend Selections -- both were stunning, not just visually but in flavor. The cheesecake brownie topped with those cherry meringues looked almost too good to eat. Almost. Washed everything down with the Salted Honey Matcha and it was the perfect companion to the whole spread. Honestly, the hardest part was choosing -- the menu is so creative and well thought-out that we already have a list of things we want to try next time. And there will be a next time. La Casita has earned a regular customer. Highly, highly recommend.

Great food, but front-of-house operations and management are a total mess…read more My family and I finally visited La Casita Bakeshop over the weekend after seeing a lot of marketing for it. While the food itself was definitely good, the front-end operations were incredibly poor, and the service left a lot to be desired. The serving staff seemed completely untrained and lacked basic common sense, right down to knowing how to properly handle plates and utensils. To make matters worse, we encountered the shift manager, Jesus, on Sunday, May 24th. Not only was he arrogant, but he completely lacked Customer Service 101 skills. At one point, he told us the wait time would be an hour, yet there were four completely empty tables inside and servers were just standing around idle. He is clearly an inexperienced restaurant manager who does not know how to efficiently run a floor or manage a team. A major caution for potential guests ordering takeout: The staff has absolutely no clue how to properly pack food. They packed runny eggs into a standard cardboard box, which inevitably leaked right through the holes and made a massive mess everywhere (see attached picture). On top of that, for a bakery and coffee spot, they didn't even carry basic options like 2% or Lactaid milk. My humble suggestion to the owners is to invest some serious time and guidance into improving your front-of-house operations and management training. The kitchen is doing its part, but the front-end experience and sloppy packaging are dragging the whole establishment down.

The bread is made fresh in house. You can see all the racks when you walk in. This place is more of a bakery than anything. I think they sell 5 loaves for a few bucks. It's absolutely the best. So crisp in the outside and tender like poboy bread on the inside. The sandwich toppings were nice. I got the basic ham and it was full of flavor. The pickled veg were so well seasoned and nice. It was a very nice compliment to the rich pork and some sort of spread they had on it. I could not get enough of this thing. I truly thought i hated bahn mi.
