I had to kill some time before a concert on a recent Wednesday night and figured I should probably grab a bite to eat, so I decided to pop into the Artful Dodger Pub. I took a seat at the bar and perused the menu, and eventually I opted for the 7 oz. Dodger Burger ("Served with fries"). It arrived a little while later and it's fine. It's exactly what you'd expect from an old-school joint like this: overcooked and loaded with unnecessary spices. But with the tasty, hot fries and fresh condiments, I actually wound up enjoying it a fair deal. It went really well with my beer, too. There's absolutely nothing hip or trendy about Artful Dodger, but if you're in the mood for a classic pub experience, look no further. read more

Great pub atmosphere with the old feel of woodsy paneling. The name itself I loved! We came late in a Friday and got in our order just before the kitchen closed. Service was ok but looked like he was hustling the best he could. We ordered the bangers and mash and a side order of fries. We like our carbs ! Bangers came with baked beans as is traditional. These were weird though. Not the Heinz British ones I'm used to. These were sweet like bush's. Not a fan of those. But the bangers and mash with gravy and sautéed onions were awesome. Great late night food. The fries were also hand cut and really good and fresh. The mash was house made and the bangers had a lot of flavor. Not traditional but at least they had out bubbly mini bottles. Which hit the spot too. Great little find around the corner from our hotel. They had a huge menu of American and English food. On Mon. evening I made my 1st visit to The Artful Dodger in more than 2 years; it was an Event for a friend's birthday party. In my years of visiting the Pub, I've been almost everywhere inside and out; I still have yet to eat there but I have had a number of quality beers at the venue. I do know they have food specials every day with beverage purchase only and not available for Take-Out. From what I've seen, their food portions are good and their prices affordable. The quality of their food looks good too, with a fair bit of variety. I admire the décor throughout the interior of the Pub and I like both their front and back patios. Another plus is that there are an abundance of games available, including pool on their top floor and darts. I don't know if it's the most suitable place for large groups but for smaller gatherings that I've been to it's been fine. The service is quite good too. read more

Love this place! You can find college friends meeting up for a beer to people coming for a quick business lunch. Very relaxed atmosphere. They have a huge patio in the front and the back, lots of seating for big groups. The staff were fantastic - great beer recommendations, will make meal accomodations for the pickiest of eaters and we never had an empty cup ! My group happened upon the Artful Dodger shortly after the Pride parade ended. We were looking simply for a place to get a drink, some food, and soak up some more of the atmosphere. Most places in the village were very busy, this one included; but we were able to find a spot on their patio, and that cinched our decision. Considering the crowds and the craziness all around, we were quite surprised how good the service was here. We ordered drinks soon after arriving, and got them relatively quickly. And soon thereafter we all ordered food - and even though it was a bit of a wait, it was actually less of a wait than we had expected. We all got our own dishes, and did a bit of sharing. I had a pulled pork sandwich with fries and coleslaw, and others had quesadillas, a salad topped with chicken, and another sandwich. My sandwich was quite tasty, and the fries were really good. The coleslaw was so-so. Likely out of a bag. The quesadillas were good as well, with a nice amount of toppings. The salad was also tasty, as well as being a good portion. Prices were also better than I had expected. Being a pub, they had a nice selection of beer, and a few other things. I enjoyed my beer, but it could have been a bit colder. It was cold, but not that ice cold I've come to expect from places that serve a lot of beer. We were definitely impressed by the server. She had obviously been running around all day, but was still friendly and efficient. She even apologized for the "slow service", which we all laughed off, telling her we were pleasantly surprised at how quick the service was. Came here to watch Game 6 where the Raptors won the NBA championship. Absolutely amazing night. But this bar didnt have much to do with it. Its not very clean, tables are sticky, and seats are uncomfortable. I tried a lot of food here considering we were here for 6 hours. The nachos came with guacamole and salsa in little paper ketchup holders. The fried pickles were so hard it was difficult to bite into. The wings were so tiny there was less than 2 bites of meat on them. The spinach and artichoke dip tasted like the cheese was going bad. I also had the beer and the Caesars there. Drinks were alright. Service was slow as expected. But when we did get service, the servers were extremely rude and short with us. read more

I can really only review this place for its bar on main floor since I got there before 5, so I have no idea how dinner is or how the service is upstairs. Artful Dodger Pub is right off yonge just south of bloor on Isabella. Its inside what looks to be a converted house, its a mid size pub, from what I can see one section by bar can hold maybe a dozen while the side to right of entrance is another half an dozen. It small but nice. I stand at bar and ordered Tankhouse Ale and Wellington Country Ale. Both I enjoyed and 6 dollars a pint isnt a bad deal. Both good beers and service was good. Cute little patio, but the service was so bad I didn't have a chance to try the food b/c we left after sitting there for 15 minutes without anyone coming by to even ask if we wanted a drink. The patio was 3/4 full when we arrived. Stood there for a moment and no one came to seat us so we just asked someone clearing a table if we seat ourselves. He gave us a sort of nod, so took our pick of one of the open (but completely messy) tables. They hadn't cleared any of the tables where people had left, which is not very inviting to say the least. Someone came over and cleared all but one of the empty glasses on our table. And that was the last we heard from any service. Multiple times people came out and cleared tables or brought out food, but not a single person even looked at us. Not to take a drink order, give us a menu, or even say "I'll be with you in a minute". I saw another couple come in and sit down next to us. A waitress came out to drop off some food, and she went over to the new table to take their drink order. We waited to see if she would come serve us next, but nope, she went right back inside. I'm a lunch-time regular at the Artful Dodger. It's a bit like a small town pub. You see the same people every day, including a handful of British ex-pats sitting down to the footy and talking about the good ol' days up at the bar. The owner and staff are friendly. The food is quite decent. In the winter it's very pleasant to sit by one of the two gas fireplaces. After work, the upstairs is a popular spot. I have always heard people talk about the Artful Dodger and even though it's only about 100m from my door, I have never been! After stopping over a few days back I sincerely regret not trying this gem out earlier. We stopped in on Saturday to grab a bite to eat and some drinks. After we got in we seated ourselves and were promptly greeted by an amazingly kind gentleman who told us about their Saturday special and gave me some drink recommendations after asking me a few questions about my preferences. I ended up with the winter ale which I have tried before and honestly, if he didn't recommend it I 99% would have ordered it anyways. It's basically a tootsie roll/coffee tasting beer which this creamy finish that hits well above its price point. Highly recommend if your into a darker more complex beer for a great price! Next for the food he recommended the steak dinner at -get this- $15.95! He told me it was good and I kind of rolled my eyes and was like uhhhh yeah, I'll try it I guess. . It's $15.95, what do I got to lose right? It ended up once again being tremendous value and was easily worth 2X that. The steak was a New York cut which was generous in size and though it wasn't a perfectly well marbled steak it was certainly a great cut of meat for the price and went really well with the beer. On the side there were rosette potatoes, asparagus and veggies which were all fantastic. Lastly I got the sweet potato fries with chipotle mayo (can't have sweet potato fries without chipotle mayo!) And they were absolutely perfect. All in all this place really surprised me with their diverse assortment of food ranging from butter chicken or steak to fish and chips and burgers. The drink selections were carefully crafted and well thought out and the overall experience was exponentially better than 9/10 bars out there. I recommend checking this place out if your looking for great value, good food, unique drinks and a cool ambience where music doesn't drown out your tables dinnertime banter. A great pub is hard to find - especially in Toronto when so many pubs are being taken over and converted into generic Firkin pubs. As a good Brit, I have a healthy appreciation for a pub. The kind of place that's always open, that's quiet when you want it to be, but also the sort of place you can stroll into on a Saturday with some friends and have a good time without anyone making you feel like you need to behave. A good pub should have a full menu, a healthy list of on tap offerings and dusty floral carpets. This place checks all the boxes and then some. It has billiards tables and darts upstairs, and the highlight - incredible nachos. Nachos are my go-to bar food, lunch food, whenever I'm craving comfort, food. The meaty nachos here are better than just about any nachos I've had in Toronto - and are miles better than Sneaky Dee's. The prices here for food are amazing - a rare value for Toronto, and even more rare for Bloor and Yonge. If you're looking for somewhere to just chill out over a pint - this is the spot. read more

Best way I can summarize the interior of the Artful Dodger Pub - Quaint and cozy. Lots of booths and warm dark walls, a bar in the one room on the east side of the building with the west side being more plain seating leading to the kitchen. Looked to be a front patio and garden backyard patio, although it was too cold to test that theory. There is a respectable amount of good beer on tap, and a broad enough menu that most people will find something up their alley without challenge. They make a pretty good pulled pork sandwich. I liked the coleslaw on the side which left me in control whether to add on top of the pork itself as a sandwich topping or enjoying it on its own. Sweet potato fries were a bit thicker cut than I'd normally be a fan of but I stole some fries from my dining counterparts plate and they were pretty much perfect thickness and crunchiness. A pint and a sandwich came to $20 including tip, and I left satisfied. I'd even go so far as to say this is one of the better pubs in the Bloor & Yonge walking distance, not to mention there are some really impressive weekday specials... So check it out if a pub is what you're looking for. read more

Thursday night, and we were able to book out the back patio for a private-ish going away party. It was nice to have the separate area, and it's funky with some sort of beach and flower theme going on. It's not the most glamourous, as you walk through the alleyway where their recycling and storage is to get there, but it's decent. There is the bar at the back dedicated to this area, but it only serves a limited portion of the drink menu. Anything missing you'll have to go to the main bar inside. The bartender working there was quite busy and it would be nice if she could have had some help knowing that there will be a party back here. She couldn't come around and take orders so we had to meet her in the back, which was fine. But this means that if she was serving, she was MIA and our plates and empty drinks didn't get cleared as needed either. She was really hardworking and busy though, so kudos to her. Food was hit or miss. The nachos were so pathetic looking, not enough cheese to cover it, and was barely melted. Fresh tomatoes and lettuce, but looked like something you can put together at home. At $13 expected a lot more. Instead we got the spinach and artichoke dip for $7 which was much more substantial and filling, but nothing amazing. I have been coming to the Dodger for a number of years, celebrating birthdays and toasting friends. It's a lovely neighbourhood pub with a lovely ambiance. It's split in half on the main floor with one dining room and one bar. The upstairs is available for reservations and the outdoor patio is perfect for people watching on a warm summer's evening. Though little known, as attested by the fact that I hardly see anyone there, is brunch. The Dodger does a lovely brunch, with a few choice selections on the menu. The atmosphere is more of an old school pub and on the menu, they have a decent selection drinks. So why the two stars? 1) For some reason, the pool table was missing a ball and they had to go find it. I know that may not really be their fault but still, we were waiting for 5 minutes and trying to find the missing pool ball 2) While they have lots of drinks on the menu, the first thing the waitress said to me was "we may not have all the drinks on the menu". I asked what they don't have and she said tell me what you want and I'll let you know if we have it...ugh. 3)Clumsy coworker knocked an empty glass onto the table (just lightly) and the glass shattered - i.e. cheap glassware. This is one of my favorite Toronto pubs. The four star rating is mostly for the pints and the authentic British pub vibe, although I've eaten Fish and Chips here once (and the food was good). Cozy fireplace. British newspapers. Darts. ManchesterUnited-style ruffians with accents and language straight from the docks. It's bloody excellent. As I've said in reviews of other establishments in this area off Yonge Street, the neighborhood is starting to become a little dangerous, but that's mostly due to Canada's ultra permissive views on alternative lifestyles (which apparently include aggressive panhandling) and is not enough to scare me away from this gem. read more

Another place I've been to for lunch and after work many times. I would describe the pub as cozy but a little divey, especially the upstairs portion. The tables are a bit small in the nicer downstairs part of the pub, so if you're with a larger group it can be a bit cramped unless you head upstairs. There is a pool table up there, so it's not all bad. One bonus of this pub is that it has two patios. The front patio can be a bit crowded, but the back patio has a great vibe. The beer selection is decent and the food is pretty reliable. The bangers and mash and pulled pork sandwiches in particular are good. On the bright side, the Dodger does boast two floors with a few spacious rooms, making it a good spot for a last minute big group meetup. I quite like the Artful Dodger, more for the atmosphere and patio during the summer than the food. The menu offers standard pub fare for the most part. After trying a few items, my favourite is the salmon dinner - very delicious! Least favourite would be the pulled pork sandwich. For something more middle of the road/lighter fare I'd suggest the Oliver Twist salad. The portion sizes are generous without being overwhelming and quality is pretty good for the cost. The best thing about this place is definitely the surroundings. The interior offers a warm, homey atmosphere during the winter. During warmer weather there's nothing better than having few drinks on their patio. One couple downsides to be aware of - the wait staff can at time take *forever* to take your order, bring your bill, etc. It's not a major issue but is something to keep in mind if you have a tight schedule. They also don't take debit, only credit cards. Again, not a major issue but an inconvenience if you're not prepared. Bottom line: This is always a solid option for dinner/drinks. read more

My friends and I are born the same week. We decided to do a beer crawl for our birthdays and included artful dodgers as one of our stops. It's a neat place with a relaxed vibe, we enjoyed our apps and the darts on the wall. Too bad the bartended was miserable. There were about 15 of us and she complained that we didn't make a reservation so she was thrown off guard. I've never heard of a bartended not excited to see customers and make tips. We all went up in seperate groups and had our own encounters but the overall consensus was she was a grouch.
