So disappointed in Dr Ting. He did a full knee replacement in April '25. It was always disheartening to visit the office....it is nothing to wait for 1-1 1/2 hrs past appointment time to actually see him. I returned a couple of times because of post-surgery pain (was told it would be about 3 months until I was better), the last time at the 1-year mark, still in pain, asking what was wrong with my knee, which hadn't healed and I still limping. Dr Ting had a horrible attitude...it was as if I was bothering him with my questions. He took an Xray, said my knee looked great, despite the swelling around the knee cap. He said I could get another cortisone shot, which I did not want after two failed shots. He said my options were a brace or a shot. In disbelief, I said neither was a good option - I wanted my knee to be back to 'reasonable' normal. I asked what to do and his exact words were "Just deal with it." Never imagined a doctor would be so detached and cold with someone in pain, and give an answer so off-putting. He got his money for the surgery; after care is a forgotten skill in that office. Think carefully, before you commit to have him do the work. Unless you are a famous athlete and can donate an autographed shirt to his collection, you are simply not important to him. If you value your time, I would not recommend visiting this office. I had a 9:30 appointment and arrived promptly at 9:25. After checking in, I was asked to wait. By 9:50, I followed up with the front desk to ask for an estimated wait time and was told there was one patient ahead of me. When I politely inquired if the delay was due to overbooking or another issue, the response I received was dismissive: "Not sure, it takes time." By 10:00, I decided to cancel my appointment. The front desk staff's response was indifferent, simply saying, "Okay, I'll let them know." I wasn't even offered an apology or asked if I wanted to reschedule. So I injured my shoulder at work. Was sent to a local orthopedic surgeon after an mri. Was informed by him that I had a tear in my labrum but since the pain was on side not back of shoulder that had nothing to do with the tear and was recommended to do physical therapy. With no improvement I requested Dr Ting after several friends recommended him. Upon seeing him he immediately said I not only had a tear in my labrum but also in bicep tendon and that was the reason I felt the pain where I did. He operated on my shoulder and did a fantastic job. His staff is very friendly and supportive. He is busy but still takes the time needed for you. He puts you and your needs first over anything. Honestly when you see who has worked on it is very impressive. I mean if he is good enough for the top elite athletes he is more than qualified for me. Highly recommend. read more

Overall great place so far for my workers comp recovery for my rotator cuff and c spine. Only issue I have is they allow patients to operate the laser therapy device themselves which appears to be pretty high power and possibly class iv, did not take a close enough look. One day a lady who was patient pointed it at my eye in what seemed to be an accident although and my eye did hurt as a result of this visit. This can leave permanent damage to my eye as it seemed the laser can hit 15w. Im thinking I should get it checked out as at first I did not realize how much damage such as laser can produce to the eye. I believe one should always wear eye protection with such a device and when I asked a therapist once they said you do not have to since the laser is not facing your eye but you still should based on what is stated online. The best surgeon hands down. As a former professional cross country and track and field athlete over the past 25 years Dr. Ting has been performed two ACLS and treated multiple chronic injuries. Updating this seven months after initial visit. I am now 2 years after knee replacement. Doctor Ting used the latest technologies: robotic contour cut, cement less attachment. Day of surgery went as planned. As I was wheeled to operating room I saw Dr. Ting giving my wife the thumbs up. Went home the same day. Had pain medicine that went straight to the knee through an installed device. First week was tough. Had some pain. Needed help for most basic tasks. Got better over the next weeks allowing me to get around on my own and drive at three weeks. Started rehab in the doctor's gym-- state of the art rehab equipment and great therapists. Once in awhile I would see the doctor in the gym. He would visit with me , sometimes with an aggressive challenge. Use this facility if you are nearby. You won't find another at this level. Now, I am doing great. Thank you Dr Ting! He was almost perfect through the process. His one mistake was to call me out for being a Celtics fan. He didn't see the potential of that young team. He ruined my knee by putting in the wrong apparatus it was too large for my knee joint as I was told by not 1 but by 3 joint specialists when trying to find what was wrong with me, one of which helped me walk again. I was septic and had to be on IV antibiotics for almost a year. Several hospitalizations! I never was able to go back to work again. After going to several specialists I finally found someone that was able to help me. Took me well over a year and 2 specialists to get me on the right path to recovery. I don't have any other choice on star, I will give him zero star for his services, he provide to innocent public. If I could give Dr. Ting 0 stars that would be more accurate but I'm so disappointed and disgusted with the way he's treated me in my recovery after surgery. The first appointment after surgery he was so rough with my knee and all he did was take was glance and tell me it looked good and left with out acknowledging my concerns as if he were in a rush to get to the next patient. My pain was bad but I still had medication to take that was helping me stay comfortable. Now for the appointment I just had, I walked out crying and felt completely helpless and disrespected. We started the appointment with dr ting checking out my knee and saying everything looks good. I voiced my concerns that I still had some numbness in my calf from the nerve block and was so painful in my knee as I didn't have any medication left to help. When I told him that he asked "well is it numb or painful. You have to be truthful and your not making any sense" rolling his eyes at me as I spoke. I told him there's levels of numbness right? My skin is still numb but my knee hurts a lot, his response was "oh my god ok." We then started talking about when it hurts and I told him I can't sleep or be comfortable resting at all and I was doing everything he recommended. He told me " I told you the things that bothered me. Don't tell me your uncomfortable and can't sleep. Has anyone ever died from insomnia?? If you don't sleep you'll have more time in the day to get stuff done." I told him what can I get done?? I'm in pain and can't walk. He went on to make me feel like a desperate drug addict trying to get a fix. I started to feel frustrated and told him please can you listen to me. Aren't you my doctor? Only thing that has saved it from a 1 star is Dr. Ting and his physical therapy staff. Dealing with Dr Ting's reception and people working in his office are the reasons for the low rating. For example, 10-19-19 before the weekend started, it was Friday and I was supposed to receive a call from his office to let me know when my surgery that upcoming Monday, 10-21-19 would be. I didn't receive a call, so I called at 1:50 pm. The lady who picked up my call was Veronica. When I informed that I had not received a call yet for my surgery on Monday, she told me to wait 30 min and if I hadn't gotten a call yet to call them back. On my way to work I did not receive a call. I had to go to work and I couldn't call the office back. So I called the next day and had to leave a message with someone at the office that this was urgent because I still had not received a time for my schedule. I got a call later, early afternoon from Veronica. The very first thing she tells me, is why didn't I call her back!! I replied calmly and told her I never received a call from you in the first place to notify me of my appointment for surgery. She then shrugs it off and tells me my surgery will be at 5:00 pm and to come a hour early for prep. Before she had given this time, I told Dr. Ting's assistant, Randy, that I preferred 11 am-1 pm because I live on the peninsula side and want to beat traffic. Instead I get a late slot. On the day of surgery, I get a call from Veronica again to remind me that I have my surgery at 5 and to get there a hour early. I get to the place at 3:45 pm and check in. Barely waiting 5 min, I get called to the back and the nurse asked me, "Where have you been? We've been trying to get a hold of you." I told her that I thought I was early because its not 4 yet. She replied that my surgery was slotted for 3 PM and since 2 they've been calling for me. I took out my phone, confused and told her, I did not receive a call from anyone. Dr. Ting appears and is glad I'm there but asks the same and that we've been calling. They tell me my number and it was off by a single digit. On top of that everyone at the surgery center is telling me that my surgery was slotted at 3 pm!! Why did Veronica tell me 5!! I then wait and I'm not seen till 8 pm. After my surgery, I go see Dr. Ting for a check up on my shoulder. Randy, his assistant, goes over my Claim for SDI and apparently submits it. A month passes and I get a letter from SDI stating that they couldn't go ahead with my claim because his office had not submitted their part!! I had to call Dr Ting office and ask for Randy to clarify what had happened. I had not received any emails/ mail from SDI except that. I get on the phone with him and he goes, "Hi, it seems I never submitted your claim, I'm so sorry. I thought I did". I am beyond frustrated and stressed out. I hadn't received any checks for over a month and a half or any status saying it was completed. I, the patient, had to call them back to make sure. And since he did it so late I couldn't get my SDI till early December. Mind you I submitted my claim on 10-23-2019 and I called for Randy to do it on his end that same day. On top of all this, even reaching anyone on their lines is near impossible. On Google it states that the office is open at 9 am. But if you call at exactly at 9, no one picks up and it goes to voicemail. I have tried calling at 9:15, even 9:25. No one answers. At 9:30 does someone answer, but by then it becomes tedious, because no one ever calls back promptly if you leave a voicemail! Another thing, is say if you call at 11:30 am-1pm. No one picks up the reception desk phone at all. I have called multiple times around those times, to find out they just don't answer their phones!! This is why they get a 2 star rating. Not once have I blown up or acted rude. I have tried but enough is enough. read more

Listen up. I have had multiple orthopedic surgeries. All were done by competent pros in the Palo Alto area. I needed shoulder surgery on my right should to deal with a torn rotator cuff. I had three prior surgeries on my left shoulder...and was not real pleased with the results. By chance I bumped into Steve Young of the S.F. 49er's at the SLC airport. I asked him straight up if I should go to the famous guys in Palo Alto....or did he have a name he could drop. Guy looked me straight in the eye and said..." go see Dr. Ting in Fremont...end of story ". So I did. Had my surgery, came out of the deep sleep in record time. Went home, felt great, was in rehab in no time, and now some 15 years later my right shoulder continues to function like when I was a 20 year old kid. My left shoulder done by the famous guys in Palo Alto? No so great. Yeah his insurance situation is not as pleasant as could be. Yeah his bedside manner is a bit rushed. But I am not there to save a few bucks. And I am not there to share family photos and be his BFF. I am there to have my broken parts mended as well as possible. If you want the best, and can afford to cover the difference between his fee and what your insurance will cover, my friend it is a no-brainer. I pray I do not need any more orthopedic surgeries...but if I do, I will hitchhike if I need to just to get to Fremont to see Dr. Ting. read more

We have a very low opinion of Arthur J. Ting. In 2008 my girlfriend's lower leg was badly broken in an accident. A rod was inserted at Regional Medical Center of San Jose and follow up care was done through Hayward Kaiser. Several months later her foot was still twisted inward 30 degrees making it hard to walk, and there was growing pain behind her knee. The Kaiser doctor told her she wasn't doing her exercises, and was dismissive towards us. We asked around and a sports X-ray technician suggested Arthur Ting. When we met Ting he instantly and confidently told us that the problem could be fixed, but we wouldn't want to do it. He said we'd have to wait a year for it to heal, then break it again and reset everything. He was very cavalier. But what he said didn't make sense to us. And he was SO fast and SO certain, as if speed were more important than accuracy. --NOTE-- Ting didn't say: "I only know sports injuries and I'm only guessing here," or: "You're better off seeing Dr. -- for this type of problem." Essentially he said: "Here's what's wrong, and there's nothing you can do about it." Maybe I was simply in denial, but I felt we should keep trying. So we met another orthopedic surgeon (Christopher Coufal) who wasn't as quick and arrogant. Dr. Coufal was the first doctor to physically manipulate her leg with his hands, instead of just glancing alternatively between the X-ray film and his watch. Coufal confirmed our suspicion that the Regional San Jose trauma surgeon inserted the rod crooked. Next Coufal said to us: "Do you feel that? The rod is loose in there." He showed us a faint hazy area on the X-ray where the rod was sweeping back and forth inside the bone. That's why she had knee pain, and eventually it would have broken the bone. Waiting a year for it to heal, as Ting suggested, would have been a horrific mistake. (Unfortunately appointments with Coufal are hard to get and horrendously expensive.) We think Arthur Ting's big ego interfered with a competent open-minded examination. Instead of looking, listening, and thinking -- he wanted to show us what a rock star he is. He also lacked simple human compassion -- we didn't detect any empathy in him, none. More to the point, it was important for my girlfriend to walk, and Ting completely blew his diagnosis. Perhaps the quality of his care depends on your celebrity or the type of insurance you have. Our experience with him was awful. PS: Another reviewer misses my point -- we weren't looking for a friend or a hug. But we expect any orthopedic surgeon who takes our money, to perform a careful evaluation (or refer us,) and we expect him to give a damn. read more

Find a different doctor! His billing system is very messed up. I have been charged double and triple time for bills that I paid in full.There is never anyone available to speak to in billing. I got fooled by high rating and saw him for my hand issue and he only saw me for 5 minutes and immediately started talking about taking MRI and surgery without any other options. I took my high school-aged son to him for a baseball-related elbow problem and a football-related knee injury. That's where Ting's knowledge and experience pays amazing dividends. We didn't plan on leaving the office visit having made a friend. We just wanted the best available physician to get my son healthy and back in competition. Dr. Ting was the guy we were looking for because my son's an elite athlete. A Sutter ortho told my son to "rest" his elbow -- indefinitely. A Napa ortho told my son to "rest" his knee and that his football season was over. Dr. Ting treated my teen son like he treats college and professional baseball pitchers. He understands pitching injuries and an athlete's mentality. So, he took time examining my son and then explaining his diagnosis to us. It couldn't have been any better. When we realized he'd filled us in, answered our questions and we were out fairly quickly ... we couldn't have cared less that Dr. Ting didn't stand there shooting the breeze to kill time. Ting saw my son for the football injury and said, "I can get him back on the field before the season ends but at his age ... with his future in sports ... I don't see any reason to rush back this season. Young people heal on their own." My son followed Ting's suggestions and rehab prescription and could have played at the end of his season -- but, opted to rest even longer. NOTE: Ting could've done surgery on my son's pitching elbow and on the injured knee. He didn't do surgery -- so, he's not out to scam people for needless procedures. He let my young son heal on his own, explaining that if surgery was necessary later, he'd do it then. Ting has never steered us wrong, but we had the good fortune to start my son's two medical journeys with Dr. Ting rather than going to him in hopes he could fix the boneheaded work of inexperienced orthos. I had a boating accident in July with the results of an extremely injured right knee. The pain was horrendous but I thought I would get better. After not recovering like I thought I would I was referred to this doctors office. My husband and I received an appointment and both took time off work to drive 35 minutes to the office to find out that he was still in surgery. After waiting an hour and 15 minutes for him to finish surgery I was finally seen. Without reading the notes that I had been in a boating accident, he palpated my knee and leg and gave me the diagnosis that I had extreme arthritis. I disagreed with him and he was obviously offended and ordered an x-ray. The x-ray showed that I had no arthritis. He then sent me for an MRI. Dr. Ting and his staff did wait for me to return from my MRI and see me after reading the results. He told me I had a torn ACL and cartilage damage but that it was only a grade 2 tear and there was no reason that I should be in any pain. I should start walking as soon as possible. When I told him the pain was waking me up at night he treated me as if I was only there to get some kind of a narcotic. He told me he would give me 10 Norco fives just to make sure I knew he wasn't mean. I have never been so insulted in my life. Based upon the way I was treated at my first appointment I canceled my follow up appointment. I was told I would get my MRI sent to me within a few days. I tried to call four or five times and only received a voicemail. To this day no one from the office has ever called me and no MRI results have been sent to me. I did contact the company that did the MRI and they sent me my MRI results within 10 minutes. I had a second opinion from another orthopedic Doctor Who said that Dr. Ting should not be practicing medicine. This second opinion orthopedic doctor laughed when I told him Dr. Ting said I should not have any reason to be in pain. I saw Dr. Ting on August 11. Today is September 30 and I am still in extreme pain and can barely walk and the pain is still waking me up at night. The person who referred me was totally ashamed after hearing my story. I would not recommend that you see this doctor. When you spend as much money as you do to see a doctor, get a x-ray, get an MRI, you would think that he could tell you what is actually going on and why you are in pain. read more

After seeing another orthopedic surgeon, a physical trainer, and an received uneventful MRI, I had lost hope on a diagnosis for my knee. I saw Dr. Ting and within minutes he knew exactly what was wrong. About a month later he operated through arthroscopy. It was my first procedure so I was very nervous. Dr. Ting went above and beyond to notify all of his staff and made it a painless and stress free process. I can now sprint, jump, lift weights with ease. Great service all around. read more

Accompanied a family member for a consultation with Dr Ting. Aware of his questionable background, but was swayed by the recommendations of some acquaintances. Appointment scheduling was easy (within a few days); note Dr Ting performs surgery on Mondays with office consultations the remainder of the week. Office was conveniently located on the intersection of Stevenson Blvd and Paseo Padre Parkway, across from the Fremont Main Library and adjacent to Kaiser. Plenty of easily accessible parking. Renovated waiting room including a large collection of sports memorabilia and flat screen TV lined the walls, which came in handy with the lengthy delay waiting. The inner chambers of the clinic were more dated, including non-digital (film-based) x-ray. Staff were not rude, but not particularly helpful either. Good comprehensive knee views before being led into the exam room. After a short wait, Dr Ting arrived to listen to symptoms, perform a brief knee exam, then glanced at the x-rays before explaining his diagnosis. Dr Ting was personable and gave some advice on low impact activities and recommended further advanced imaging. He was patient and attentive. read more

Amanda at the front desk is outstanding, always works with me to get a timely appointment. Dr Ting does not waste my time gets me in and out. Dr Ting is always up to date on the lastest medical technology. The staff is outsanding friendly and knowledgeable. I have found the billing deparment very good to work with as long as tell them you need help. They have helped me with all the crazy insurance issues.
