I have enjoyed Arthur's since they first opened in Rock Falls. After eating at the Dixon Arthur's, I have tried them all. They are consistently fresh, friendly and TASTY!! I always prefer the Work of Art sandwich. To me the bun, meat, shaved lettuce, and the horseradish mayo or mustard (not sure which) make the perfect sandwich. We've driven past this place numerous times because our Walgreens is down the street. This time we decided to stop and we weren't disappointed. You order from the deli, and your order is prepared in view in the back. I had the chicken bacon cheddar (round) sandwich and Mac n Cheese. Flavor was good, and the bun was really fresh. (Banana peppers helped) The service was prompt and the conditions were clean. The bathrooms are very clean, and here's the kicker with that: you get your own little bathroom so no "camo cough" is necessary if you need that safety feature. All in all, I'd go back. We had to leave, so I didn't get to try the frozen yogurt, so maybe I'll do a review just for that, next time. read more

This has been a favorite of ours for years when in town. The ham and pepperoni sandwich is amazing! They have a great potato bread bun for the smaller sandwich that is so yummy! Sup Boys will here . I came into town for a construction trip and I decided to stop by this rinky fucking dink of a joint . I walk in and an immediate depression hits me . This place is absolutely dead and the workers were dust . I ordered my sandwich as a matter of fact I ordered two sandwiches because I had to save one for my construction duties the next day at lunch. When I first bit into this sandwich my socks were blown off , the sandwich was toasted , I did not see that coming boys ! The Sammy didn't last long to put it that way , it was delicious!!!! It was our first time eating here, as we are not from the area. I recall passing the Rock Falls location in the past. The Bacon & Cheddar potato was excellent and filling. Not sure what the hype is about this place. You can make the same things in your own kitchen with better ingredients. The salad bar had browned lettuce. The dressing tasted like Sysco brand dressings. I had the number thirteen NY Pastrami with Swiss and the salad bar. They nuke your sandwich right in front of your face for 15 seconds, it's not hot when you get it, which is confusing. Why ask if I want it hot. Neither were impressive, but they were cheap three of us ate for $30. It must be a local thing I don't understand. read more

This is probably the best diner you'll find anywhere around. The feel when you walk in is almost like a time capsule it's truly amazing. The white board menu , the simplicity of the subs and salads are what make this place so unique, they have carved their own niche and no one can compare. They offer numerous deli meats with all the fixins and you know all those pasta salads grandma used to make ? Yeah they have those too! Can't forget the soup and local desserts. Great deli in Ronald Reagan's home town. Dozens of sandwiches and around six soups each day along with a salad bar. Great value too. Get a round bun or a sub roll. The super fresh and soft sub roll is bigger so it's more expensive. My sub sandwich was packed with goodies. I believe it had four different meats and cheese's. The only downside was no giardineria. I grew up nearby Arthur's and my family and I have been eating here since their doors opened. In fact, I am almost certain that my family has given more money to Arthur's than to any other restaurant. I moved away a few years ago and have since lived in Los Angeles, California and Portland, Oregon, two cities that are renowned for their food. As a sandwich-guy, I have tried many of LA and PDX's best sandwich shops, and I can proudly state that nobody does it like Arthur's. In fact, out of the very few things I miss about living in Northwestern Illinois is eating at Arthur's. And it's not just a nostalgia thing for me either. Arthur's really does, dare I say it?... yes..., have some of the best sandwiches in the country. The soft bread, the thinly sliced lettuce, the quality cuts of meat and cheese they use, the fresh toppings... I've never had anything quite like it no matter how hard I look. And although Portland's renowned Bunk Sandwiches has mouthwatering menu items such as, for example, the Korean Pork Shoulder sandwich (with house kimchi, cilantro, chili mayo, and lime), I still find myself longing for a good old fashioned Arthur's #1. Arthur's also has amazing chili. Their soups are fantastic too, but I had at least a decade-long love affair with Arthur's chili throughout my youth. Get it with cheese and onion on top. Oh, and their employees are typically among the friendliest there are. Always kind. With as many times as I've eaten at Arthur's, with as much money my family has spent there over the years, with as much longing I still feel for their food, I have to say that I feel a sort of love for Arthur's Garden Deli. I will continue to search Portland high and low for a sandwich that I like just as much as Arthur's, but I don't know if that day will ever come. But one thing is for sure: I haven't been home to Ogle county Illinois in over 3 years, but the moment I do, I will make a B-line for Arthur's and gorge myself on their chili and sandwiches. read more

I guess we went with a Deli theme on this last road trip. Checked out Arthur's (which is a small, local chain in the Dixon area) and were not disappointed. Fast, friendly service and great value. I had a pastrami sandwich with extra pickles, Arthur's signature hot mustard, some mayo and melted swiss cheese. Definitely hit the spot. Tried some of their pasta salad on the side -- pretty standard but they crammed a ton of it in the "small" dish they served it in. Now that's a true side. Worth the drive through town from the interstate for anyone road tripping East or West on I-88. A hell of a lot better than the same old corporate fast food. read more

Whenever a holiday weekend rolls around, the place is bursting at the seams with people who are back in town for the weekend and looking to get their "fix." I can't quite put my finger on what it is - the high-quality meats and cheeses, the breads that are so fresh, soft and light that they almost melt in your mouth...whatever it is, it's magic! I mean, this place even has TWO fan groups on Facebook: "I Love Arthur's Garden Deli But Am So Far Away from My Love" and "Arthur's Withdrawal: I Miss Contributing to the Wolber Family College Fund."
