He took forever and I even ordered all the parts for him and personally delivered them there. It's a shame because he's a neighborhood mechanic but I won't ever go there again! read more

He identified my problem (transmission fluid leak) and referred me to a specialist (who charges about half of what Midas was going to charge). This has been my go-to auto shop since moving to the area in 2012. I have had several regular services for my Honda Fit done here, as well as getting my brakes replaced and a repair to the plastic undershielding of my car when it came loose. Artie does high quality work quickly and at extremely reasonable prices. Plus he is great at identifying the problem and only doing what you actually need - for example, I was expecting to have to replace the damaged undershielding, but he was able reattach it at minimal cost. The only downsides about coming here are that he is only open on week days doesn't have a waiting area or loaners, but he's a very short walk from downtown (less than 5 min) so you can catch a train, or go to the Starbucks or another spot in town to wait. That slight inconvenience is easily outweighed by the high quality, low cost service! read more

How good is Artie? I paid to have my car towed from the Delaware river to summit after my local shop was unable to fix the issues after 600 dollars worth of work. Artie figured it out, and charged me a lot less than 600 dollars. To be clear, my local mechanic is a ASE certified master mechanic, so my local guy is a highly capable mechanic.... Artie is just unbelievably better. Because of this, both my wife and I have all our repair work as well as our oil changes done by Artie, despite his shop being 75 minutes away from our house. If you have a problem that no one can solve or you just need an oil change, go to Artie. I just wish I hadn't moved so far from summit :) read more

I've been taking my old Subaru to Artie's for the past couple of years and I couldn't be more satisfied. He does great work, his prices are very reasonable and he's honest (having dealt with mechanics in NYC for many years, I feel the need to comment on the "honesty" part because it's quite rare). Nice guy, too. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. As others have mentioned, he's only open on weekdays, which can be a minor inconvenience but I'm not going to deduct points for that. read more

Tried one on Springfield Ave only to find dishonesty (I'm a mechanical engineer and know about cars, having modified and worked on them at a younger age). I have come to Artie's a few times - the turn around is quick and the repairs are high quality. The first time I came to him was after I had a house call mechanic friend do a tune up on my car. Long story short, he broke the fuel outlet line trying to change out the fuel filter without the proper tooling. Upon trying to fix it, he ghetto-rigged the repair and I had massive fuel leakage for weeks! He kept doing a bandaid repair, but it kept leaking. Fed up, I went to Artie's garage and within a day he did a proffesional repair for a good price. I haven't had any fuel leaking issues after almost 60,000 miles driven from that point. I've gone in for other minor, routine maintenance and have been pleased with the service. As others have said, his garage is located within walking distance from the downtown. Went to him twice. Overall comments: Bad communication, low skill level, and overpriced (this was expected based on location). First time I went in to have a window regulator done, he replaced the motor but didn't line up the window right so I always deal with wind noise. Recently told him an issue and went in to get it fixed. As expected, he didn't actually fix the problem and he said he would order the part. Followed up later in the week and he said he'd call me back, but never did. Maybe he actually "tries" on newer or more expensive cars? Not sure, but definitely not worth the time or money. read more

Please make sure you deal with the owner. Last Friday had rotors and pads changed on my Forester when Artie was away. Not only they forgot to tighten a bolt which almost got me into an accident on the turnpike, but they also charged me $580 for the parts which I could have gotten online (the most expensive ones) for half the price. He is a good guy but this negated any positive experience I had with this shop. read more

I have to say that I'm disappointed. I brought my truck here again and the vehicle sat for three and a half weeks, with no work performed. The reply was that they were always 'slammed with work'. Ended up paying for a second tow to another garage, where it was fixed in a week. I believe it's a good garage, but this was unacceptable. read more

Artie's Summit Center Garage in Summit - Love this shop! Was originally referred here by one of Summit's car dealers when I was looking for someone to do an alignment on my foreign car. They've been taking care of everything for my car since. The shop is managed by a super nice hands-on owner who knows his stuff, is happy to answer questions and is willing to explain just about anything. One drawback is that they don't really have a waiting area but it's an easy walk (2/10's of a mile, less than 5 mins) to Summit's downtown eateries & shops or to the Summit train station if you're leaving your car for the day. Note, this is a full service shop; they even do state inspections. read more

I brought 2 different cars here. The first time I ended up having to have the fuel pump repaired elsewhere. Artie apparently couldn't fix it in an acceptable time frame. He was "slammed" with work. I don't know, there is a "yard", they call it, with never more than 4 or 5 cars in it. I tried one more time with another vehicle for brake pads and rotors, a pretty simple job. It was more expensive than I've ever paid and worse, two weeks later the brakes were not working properly. I brought it to another service staition and was told the calipers were broken from the previous brake job. Another very costly fix. It seemed convenient to drop it off and walk to the train station but it turned into a nightmare. I could excuse the ghetto look/upkeep of the place, taking your life into your hands to dangerously without room drive through back alleys to get there, the surly attitude and even the high end cost if they had done a good work on either vehicle. Save your time, money and aggravation. Artie Farty was no party. read more
