Artie's is a little corner sandwich shop that has been around since the 1940's. The tiny diner probably hasn't changed much over those 80 years with original vinyl counter seats and Formica tables. I counted five booths and five counter stools that stayed full during our visit. The staff (a couple) are salt-of-the-earth sweet and hustle to keep orders coming. They know the regulars by name and cajole about family. The menu offers breakfast or lunch, with tenderloins as the featured items. Prices are inexpensive. Food comes out quickly. The tenderloins are premade and frozen. They are thin and the breading is flavorful. I had the daily special, a Tenderloin Manhattan which came with green beans and mashed potatoes. This was pure comfort food. The potatoes and tenderloin were good, but the gravy was over salty for me. My husband had the tenderloin sandwich with fries. The tenderloin was ok and the fries were really hot and good. An article on the wall indicated that Artie, the original owner, passed away in an auto accident in 1954. A local business award plaque hung above our table. I'm not sure that the shop is A.D.A. compliant as there are steps at the front door and the aisle is very narrow. There may be a ramp at a rear entrance, I couldn't tell. We found free street parking on an adjacent street. I give the place high marks on character and I love the service. The very definition of a hole in the wall. So review has nothing to do with ambiance lol I'm a transplanted New Yorker so a tenderloin is not part of my memories and honestly, I mostly don't enjoy fried sandwiches. In the world of tenderloins, these are stars. I ordered a lunch special my husband wisely ordered the tenderloin. Mine was...well look at the pictures. It was very tasty with the tenderloin you can taste that it's pork not a fried cracker. I will certainly get one next time. It's honestly the way to go.. I have a very sensitive nose and I can smell old oil at 100 feet there was no smell of oil at all. My husband had fries and they were not at all oily. Your waiter and waitress are the owners and the cook and whatever needs to be done I guess very pleasant prompt service. I'm going to post a bunch of pictures. The mashed potatoes in the picture are actual mashed potatoes not fake The green beans are probably canned possibly frozen. They were fine. My husband is the gravy connoisseur and he said the gravy was excellent. Everything you see in the pictures that I post everything including a 20% tip came to $22 and less than $.50 unbelievable . read more

The service was surprisingly great, even with my mask on clearly looking like an out-of-town-er just passing through for a quick bite. Food was cooked to order. Family-owned and serving legendary pork tenderloin. First time here after finding it last year but missing the 2pm closing. Both of us got the large tenderloin sandwiches w/fries. This is a great place to grab breakfast or lunch. It is a very small dinner with a few booths and some stools at the counter. The cook is right there so no chance your order will be wrong. Wonderful! Everything I hoped it would be. Hole in the wall in Indiana with "tenderloin" in the name. I don't know how to properly give this sandwich an apt description, but I'll try. The loin was thick, juicy and meaty. The breading somehow was separated from the meat by a tiny pocket of air which meant the breading stays crisp all the way from outside to inside. This is a "must try" place for anyone who loves the hole in the wall places. Hole in the wall to me means that the place has some grease in the walls and maybe even in the laminate bar top. Prices- very reasonable Fare- diner food. Tenderloins, burgers & blue plate specials. Ambiance- quaint. Seating for 22 people. The booths are little so cozy up to the people you're with. This itty-bitty diner is a gem in the community. We visited Kokomo & found this place on Yelp. With "Tenderloin" in the name, I HAD to get one. It was a tense& juicy fairly thick cut of meat with the right amount of breading. It's not pounded out so thinly that it makes it obnoxiously large. It far exceeds the size of the bun, but it's completely manageable. Pork chops and baked steak were the specials of the day. My wife got the baked steak and it was a good cut of meat smothered in tasty gravy & served with mashed potatoes & sweet corn. One of my kids got the double cheeseburger & onion rings. The rings were very tasty. Fries were the side fare with the tenderloin that I & my other child ordered. Overall, this is a good little find. Many locals came through while we were there. Was in Kokoma for work and we had to stop at Arties for the tenderloin! Places like this are disappearing, I think it's been in business since 1928. Great little place with a counter that seats 6-8 and a few 2 person booths. The people were very friendly, mom and pop type place. Obviously you go there for the pork tenderloin which is run through a machine and then breaded and fried or grilled on the flat top. There is a small and large size that are $3.50 and $7 if I remember and the sandwich comes on a hamburger bun. You can add fries, onion rings, cottage cheese, apple sauce or cole slaw for $1.50. I wanted to try both versions so I got a small of each no bun and a side of fries. The food is made fresh to order right in front of you. The tenderloin was very tender, not a lot of seasoning (maybe salt/pepper). I cut mine up and dipped in in mustard, yummy. You can get breakfast there as well. I bet the tenderloin and eggs would be really good. I'll definitely go back if I'm ever in kokomo and recommend you try it for breakfast or lunch. The experience is definitely about the atmosphere, location, people and the tenderloin..for that I have to give it 4 stars. read more
