The owners are nice, welcoming, and all around great guys. I always get a good cut and they do a great job.

There are two reasons to visit Staten Island. The first is to get to New Jersey, and the second is to have your hair cut at Artistic Image. AI is an old fashioned barbershop located in the New Dorp section of the borough. The proprietor Joe Pugliese is an old friend, and I pop in once a year to visit. Joe employs seven other barbers, and all of them are "characters." AI accepts appointments Tuesday through Friday, and walk in only on Saturdays. All of the barbers are highly skilled, and a bit too talkative for my taste. Joe has been cutting my hair for many years, and I can't say that he is very talkative. Instead he focuses on his work, and his work is very good. I got an excellent haircut from Joe, and an animated debate from one of his patron's. I'm not sure when I will return, but I hope that it is soon. read more

Can't go wrong with any of the barbers in this shop. When you go into a shop and see like 10 barbers each with clients in chairs you know you found the right spot. This shop has a real barbershop feel and not like some newer spots that opened that just blast loud music with 0 conversations. At Artistic everyone's talking, cracking jokes, laughing. Gotta love it, I recently moved to Jersey but I still come here for my haircuts. I recommend you call ahead and book an appointment doesn't matter with who they're all excellent. I checked some reviews to find a barber shop when doing my nails and found this spot. Had to wait about 15 minutes for someone to become available with no appointment. Tony cut my 4.5 year old's hair with ease. Really, really liked that he continuously asked me if it was okay and if I wanted to adjust or change anything. I've been coming here for years. When I went away to school I always had the same problem, I could never find an acceptable haircut. But when I'm home, the only place I go is AI. The place is a nice size for a barbershop, 8 different barbers all of which have their regulars. But they are pretty good about you making you not wait forever. And if you are waiting, there's usually ESPN or another sport event on the TVs, and a slew of magazines are ready for reading. $15 is a good price for a haircut considering what I have paid in my life for cuts I've hated. And all the guys in there don't just burn through the cut, they take their time and make sure you like it. And bring your kids because they are great with them. As far as who to go to? Chad cut my hair way back in the day, and he's still good. Anthony, Joe, and Tony are all popular choices. Personally I go to Lindy, I'm never disappointed. Gotta love the straight edge razor at the end. Get ready for a haircut you'll enjoy, and be prepared for the random but always entertaining conversation. Been coming here for about 8 years now. All the barbers are great. A lil bit Pricey (~18)but you get a professional/great haircut. They spend a great amt of time on your hair. Weekends and after school hours time waiting could be 2 hrs. Call ahead and reserve an appt with the barber u prefer to see. It can get busy. read more
