A+ for Athena. I went in for a microblading procedure. I was pretty nervous as this is a procedure done on YOUR FACE, but Athena was super calm and made me feel really comfortable. The office/procedure room is clean & organized. I had hardly any eyebrows at all, I've spent the last 15+ years drawing them in, so taking this leap was a HUGE deal for me. She took her time in making sure everything was the way I wanted, the right size, right arch, right color, etc. She comes packed with a lot of patience, gentleness and craftsmanship. She is truly an artist. I had researched for months (literally) and finally made the appointment when I ran across Athena's Yelp page. Added bonus, her online booking system makes things easier. I was expecting some pain, but the microblading itself really wasn't bad. I didn't feel anything at all, that numbing cream really works! Ok so my eyebrow hairs are very faint, and I usually don't wear a lot of makeup. It's just to fill them in. I would've spent my mornings doing 0 makeup if I tried. I looked up microblading because I heard you wouldn't have to do anything in the morning which is perfect. I researched this place and it didn't disappoint!! Minnie was amazing! She was funny and made me feel at ease. She suggested magic shading because I have oilier skin and so that it has a more natural look. The whole thing took like 1 1/2 hours! Most of the time I avoid leaving a bad review, but this time I will because my experience with this business had lots of emotional impact on me. Minnie did Microblading on my eyebrows. I told her about my concerns. I wanted natural looking, small and obviously symmetrical eyebrows! I was in shock when she gave me the mirror. I was like, no this is a joke, it can't be true! Ink didn't stick - the "after" looked just like "before." It's not for everyone - although Minnie was a delight to work with. I had my eyebrows done two years ago (by someone else who has since moved out of the Bay Area), but I wanted to have them retouched because they were starting to fade. Minnie did a color correction (not the full brow service) on my brows since the micro-blading strokes still looked good. I decided to bite the bullet and do eyeliner as well. I followed the after care instructions to a T, knowing how important it was based on the first time I had my brows done. But NOTHING stuck! Minnie did all the work, and I endured all that pain for ZERO change. I was so happy with how everything looked when I was healing, but once the scabs came off, so did all the color. I decided not to take advantage of the free touch up that came with my eyeliner because I was worried that the ink might stick in some places and not in others (spotty eyeliner is wayyyy worse than no eyeliner). But Minnie was professional enough to stand behind her work and redo my brows, even though a touch up is not included in color correction. They do have you sign a document saying that results will vary depending on your skin type, but I was certainly surprised that that could include no results. The only saving grace in this situation was how professional Minnie was. Maybe it's the ink? I wrote this review so that people know that there are no guarantees and that maybe this isn't for everyone. read more

So can't believe that I didn't post a review earlier. I found Athena through Yelp reviews, and scanned all of the reviews in the Bay Area for permanent eyeliner. And really pleased that I did. I went to Athena last year (early 2018) and had her do my eyeliner. I love it, and it has held up so well and I get lots of compliments on my eyeliner skills! Ha! She told me I should get my eyebrows done, but did I listen? No...well at least not right away. Went back to have her do my eyebrows. Original plan was microblading, but because I have enough eyebrow hairs, she recommended we do microshading and then microblading to fill in some areas. I am so glad I listened to her this time. Athena did my hair and makeup for my wedding in Santa Cruz. I was really happy with her work. She's pricey but it was sooo worth it! I was just bummed that she didn't want to move to another room to do my mother in law's hair and makeup. A month ago, Athena did my friend's (the bride) hair and makeup and the mothers' makeup as well. Her two assistants did the 5 bridesmaids' hair including myself. My friend had done a trial with her beforehand, and found what she liked and didn't like for the big day. On the morning of the wedding day, the bridesmaids showed the assistants how we wanted our hair (identical braids and bun) by showing them a photo. They did a really good job by just seeing a side view of the photo, and although a couple of us had to redo certain parts, they were very gracious in fixing our hair for us. They were on schedule with our own itinerary, so it worked out very well. Athena also did a great job on my friend's hair and makeup, and fixed part of it after it was done to accomodate what my friend envisioned. Overall, great job by Athena and her staff. Best thing about taking these classes aside from great education? Lunch is included! After taking her class and seeing her work, I decided to get my eyebrows redone by Athena as well. I've gotten my eyebrows done over 5 times, each time a correction of the previous. One of the comments I usually get from people is I look very mean. I have an RBF. My eyebrows were much too thin and archy. Athena smoothed them out and made them a little bit fuller. It has been over half a year and no one has complained about my face looking too mean. Minnie did an amazing job on my brows. After she drew on the shape and measured them .. I got the combination magic shading and Microblading done and it turned out awesome! The process wasn't as bad as I thought. Pain was 3 out of 10 to minimal as she kept on numbing my brows whenever I felt it. Minnie was very pleasant and easy to talk to which made the process a lot more comfortable for me. Now waking up every morning without having to draw on my brows feels great! This review is so so long overdue! I came in for my second microblading/shading appointment today because I loved the first session and results so much. For an entire year, I loved waking up in the morning and seeing how perfect my eyebrows looked with zero make up and effort. It completely transformed and framed/shaped my face and cutting down time to get ready in the morning was a game changer. It's amazing what good eyebrows can do and how they can make you feel. I had no idea how to shape and tweeze my eyebrows before, and they've never looked better, fuller, and more (naturally) symmetrical after Athena carefully measured and designed what would flatter my face shape and proportions best. I initially wanted something with a little more arch, and Athena recommended otherwise and to go a little more natural. So glad I listened to her because eyebrows were definitely on fleek and lasted around a year! I think the first session would have definitely lasted longer, but I wanted a touch up before my wedding. Additionally, Athena is such a wonderful person. She checks in with you during the whole process and makes sure you are happy with the outline and comfortable and not in too much pain during the microblading and shading. Getting my brows and eyeliner here have been the best purchases I've made in the last few years. Especially with two young kids and a pandemic, not having to draw on my brows and eyeliner half asleep at the crack of dawn has been worth every penny. Athena does a great job creating a shape that works for you and your style.
