Wow! The Cocktail Camp, and especially Luke, our instructor wow'd our clients (22 total people!) with his fun facts, and how to's for 3 amazing off the chart cocktails. We learned how to make a classic Negroni, Mezcal margarita, and a specialty cocktail called Marceline's dream. Everything was included, plus a beautifully embossed cocktail kit for our guests to take home with all the fixings for the cocktails we made, recipes, and tools! I believe I found a new passion and a new career, but wait let's start from the beginning. I've been seeking a second career and a new passion that can possibly lead to something amazing, as well as open up new opportunities to myself. What came to mind? Bartending!! I'm pretty clueless to bartending (before I started) so I knew I needed to find somewhere to teach me the basics and get my going. After researching local bartending schools in my area of Sacramento,I was pretty discourage at what I found and the quality of the schools. On the first day of glass I met our instructor Nora who was fantastic and very knowledgeable and just in general an awesome person and bartender. Almost the entire class was hands on which was amazing and very beneficial. The best part was talking about the variety of spirits while tasting them!! Where else can you do that!? I also enjoyed the fact that a million recipes was not being forced on us to have to memorize but instead we were prepared to make any recipe that comes our way. I can not sign the praises of The Cocktail Camp and Adrian enough ! This bartending school was so much fun. I was out of my league, but by the end of the course I was actually feeling pretty confident in myself. The course was thorough and fun, challenging and yet I didn't feel like I was in a pressure pot the whole time. Everything was explained in such a succinct manner that I feel I was able to absorb all the information easily. I've already been flexing my knowledge at local parties and family events, and I feel confident that I know what I am talking about. Adrian was knowledgeable and fun to work with. He was encouraging and so passionate about the craft. I loved that the class was focused more on the architecture of what makes a cocktail than a hefty load of memorizing a million drinks. I now understand how to make a cocktail with any ingredient and figure out how to make a drink based on the ingredients alone. I have been searching for a good bartending school since last year, and was pleased to discover The Cocktail Camp couple months back on yelp. Prior to The Cocktail Camp, I had a little to no knowledge about spirits and cocktails, let alone bartending. Also I finally learned to appreciate the process and history of making spirits. Even if you are not planning to be a bartender, I think it's a great skill and knowledge to have. Don't be that guy or a girl who orders the same thing over and over again at a bar because you don't know any better. Rohini is the perfect teacher, and her story about how she started bartending back in the day still cracks me up. You learn a great deal about set up of a bar, about the spirits, tips and techniques of bartending, and customer service etc. My favorite part about the course was that you get lots of hands on experience to sharpen your skills as a bartender. I, once, impressed a SF bar owner with my pouring and stirring skills. Another favorite part is that you meet a lot of interesting people with diverse backgrounds and knowledge! Definitely do the apprenticeship program, it is sort of a different feel, when you actually deal with a customer, making drinks with real spirits and tasting what you created. You will also notice that you would be way ahead of bartenders who just started as a barback and became a bartender without any training. Your technique makes you look sexier than those folks in those cocktail bars. The key to success here is to keep practicing! I attended the three Sunday cocktail class in January 2019 and had a great time. My instructor was Adrian, who was a knowledgeable, attentive, and passionate cocktail coach for a class of ~12 newbies. The class is broken down well. 1st Sunday: whiskey/brandy, 2nd Sunday: Rum/Tequila, 3rd Sunday: Vodka/Gin, though each class also builds in plenty of miscellaneous topics, such as changing kegs, maintaining your work station, and offering good customer service. However I think my favorite thing Cocktail Camp offers is a theoretical approach to cocktails. Though we learned the recipes of 15-20 drinks, the most valuable lessons taught general principles of cocktail composition and why certain steps are necessary. Really, those are the things that stick. Keep it up Cocktail Camp, I now drink gimlets because of you. read more

Was in need of a team building activity for a two day summit for my team and was looking for something outside of the typical cooking class which we had done in the past. Rohini was very responsive via email and would respond within an hour or so. She sent over the invoice ahead of time so we wouldn't have to worry about it there. We had the bar to ourselves from 4-6pm. Luke was our host and teacher and he greeted us with champagne and let us hang out when we arrived a little early. He had spots set up for each of us, complete with equipment, alcohol and a menu containing recipes for three different cocktails. Luke shared the history of cocktails and the specific liquor while diving into each of the drinks. He taught how to properly stir, pour, the proper names of each utensil, etc. After we made each cocktail we had about 20 minutes to hang out and drink while they washed everything and set up for the next cocktail. Wonderful staff, cool vibe, delicious drinks, interesting part of town. $75 per person and $30 extra for the take home kit. Worth it! read more

This review has been edited: We signed up for a private team building class. There were only 6 of us so we had it in my home. The mixologist only provided stevia based simple syrup which has a really strong taste that ruined the cocktails for me. I ended up dumping out my first cocktail and had to make my own simple syrup to use in the next 2 drinks. I really think this is something that should have been provided. We also didn't get a copy of the drink recipes after we were finished, so I can't even recreate what we learned. They only left one copy of the "cocktail cheat sheet" but there were 6 of us participating. Overall these were pretty big disappointments considering the price. I also think this company needs to work on their customer service skills when responding to negative feedback. read more

I booked Cocktail Camp based on a friends recommendation and we had a GREAT experience! Our bartender (Lucas?) was awesome, knew a lot of interesting history about different types of alcohol, and kept us entertained with lots of jokes. This was something different that our team had never done before. We wanted to stray away from the typical "dinner and drinks" and this was a perfect activity for us. I also really like that Slate bar allowed us to bring in our own food (we set up a taco/burrito bowl bar) so we could snack before we drank. I would definitely recommend using them. There is a reason why this business is rated a 5 star because it for sure is. I graduated from Cocktail last weekend along with my bf. It was an amazing experience. Learned so much about the bar business in general along with crafting amazing cocktails and challenge years of business experience In a whole new venue. Nora Frazier was an amazing instructor. She was so knowledgeable, so organized and so helpful and patient answering any questions we had through the entire 4 weeks. She for sure has big things ahead. The only thing was it was soooo dark inside the bar it was really hard to see what I was doing. I know that many bars and clubs have dim light but this was to the extreme it was pretty dark. Our instructor Nora did an amazing job of making sure we could all follow along with what she was doing, and explained the drink's components in a way that helped us newbies understand. Where do I begin? A couple of my classmates have already mentioned some amazing aspects of the program, and I second what all of the other reviewers have stated so far. I had been waiting for years to take a nice bartending course and I am so fortunate that, after all those years and research, I was able to attend TCC. I decided to sign up for the once a week, Sunday class in order to have some basic experience as I intent to bar-tend while I'm finishing my college degree. The class is taught by very experienced bar-tenders who were incredibly open about their own insights into making good cocktails and the knowledge needed to be successful working in a bar. Not everyone can step into bartending and having this knowledge and the time to practice the skills was incredibly helpful. You also learn how to make a lot of classic drinks across six different spirit basses so now I feel confidence to hop into any type of bar have a verse knowledge of spirits, liquors, and cocktails. My ideal bartending position was to work at a place that only really sells beers and shots, however after taking this class I've become well versed in the beauty of cocktails and would love to continue creating great cocktails. Most importantly, the teachers of this class are incredibly nice and supportive. I've met many dickheads in the service industry and I was worried that I would be trained by some angry hungover bartenders, but the positivity and kindness emphasized in this class from Rohini and Jarrod was really great. Recently a graduate of this program. I found that my knowledge was exceptionally well taught. The Teachers were very experienced and patient with myself and my fellow students. Unlike most courses this course that are one day to a few days long this one is actually a week long, I feel that it's better that way because you can retain more knowledge about bartending. Yes the city can before it is the best place to learn the trade. Also the student center online once you purchase program is very resourceful for studying. Slate bar is also conveniently one block away from 16 St Bart. and also was graduating from the program the owner of the bar allows you to bartend for one night so that you can get experience and also please send out emails for job postings. I can thank Rohini Moradi (The "Cocktail Queen" of San Francisco and owner/instructor of the TCC) for inspiring me to make bartending my profession after a back injury forced me to retire as a Firefighter/Paramedic. Rohini comes with a wealth of knowledge from the many popular bars she has worked at around San Francisco. She also has a Master's degree in English, creates her own literature for the TCC and urbanite editor for SOMA magazine. She is hip, down-to-earth, full of positive energy and laughter, and most of all, dedicated to helping her students learn. It's her mission to teach the correct way to do things behind the bar (Craft cocktails) while having a blast doing it. The course is held at a "SLATE" bar in the Mission. I'm grateful that I decided to take my bartending classes here! The instructors are lovely, the curriculum is enjoyable, and the experience you gain is invaluable. I signed up for the weekday classes, which were offered at a convenient time; not too early, but early enough so that you can still enjoy the rest of your day afterward. The location is also convenient, being a quick two minute walk from the Bart station. The classes are held in an actual bar, which helps you to feel comfortable working in a bartending environment. You spend most of your time behind the counter, so the majority of the learning is hands-on. When you're not practicing pouring drinks, you're learning the history behind each of the spirits that you're working with. There was never a dull moment for me since the instructors' enthusiasm in the subject is contagious! The amount of attention you get as a student is perfect! Since the class size is relatively small, your instructor can keep track of your personal progress and give you tips based off of what they observe. This class was not only informative, but also fun, and a pleasure to be a part of! I've always wanted to learn bartending for a long time. This summer, I had a chance to visit San Francisco for 3 weeks so I took one week of my trip hanging out with The awesome Cocktail Camp. I can't say enough about Rohini! Even I'm not 100% perfect in English (as you might see now from my writing), but Rohini has helped me closely and gave out a very solid and useful advice. The class also offer the online information which is very helpful for a foreigner like me to catch up each day. She really cares all of the students (which is a small sized class) and as an outgoing and hilarious instructor, you will feel that this Slate Bar (School's location) has become your new home for the rest of the week. Within one week ; she took me the point that I never knew that I could do as a bartender. At first, all I know about Cocktail was something easy from the club like Gin Tonic or Vodka Redbull. But after this amazing 5 days, I've learned how to make tons of basic cocktails "with confident." By the confident, I meant that she really emphasized on our skills over memorizing recipe. I feel very comfortable in working behind the bar and all equipments including setting up the bar or safety behind bar and many more. Moreover, I get to know the history and nature of each spirits. She made us try all kinds of spirits (with a good amount) to get the sense of taste of all kinds before moving on to the mixology stuffs. I think the course are organized and designed very well. Rohini is an awesome teacher / instructor. I've taken 2 classes with her and each time, it was fun, informative, and exciting. She was able to tailor both courses to the different type of group and the preference. I've made cocktails for several years and always prided myself in my "skills" but boy, was i completely wrong. I realized my over confidence all those years were completely unwarranted. I was screwing up the simplest cocktails and they all tasted like crap compared to how they were made with Rohini. She absolutely showed me the way! However, one thing I would recommend ahead of time is that each person has their own station. The first time everyone was able to use their own stuff but the 2nd time some of us had to double up. When doubling up, a few of us lost focus and relied on the other one.
