Went on a Sunday at 5:30pm. Got ignored at the front door by the hostess in tall boots. Eventually walked to the bar. The bar was out of just about everything, both beer & liquor. Atmosphere was dreary to say the least. Got a cocktail & there wasn't enough for a second drink? Prices are high but we know why. Lots of the older crowd here... Bacon wrapped Scallops were cold in the middle but luckily we didn't get sick. Only reason for three stars was the awesome anti pasta salad we got for $15. read more

Got a veal parmigiana "torpedo" here that was about 7-8 inches in length total FOR $14.50. Absolutely ridiculous price for the the size and the amount of meat. Decent flavor , but for that price , not even close to worth it. Overall this place is overpriced for the quantity and quality. The best gift Christmas can bring is a gift card to the many Coleman family restaurants. Gift card in hand, we headed to Art's on a busy Saturday night. Get there early or call ahead because this is always a popular stop. We started with a couple house lambruscos. Bright and fruity, a delight to warm up with. Usually we have their delightful Italian specialties, but today we were in a pizza mood. After a couple of tasty Italian salads, we each ordered a small pizza, knowing that we'd have leftovers. The sauce, cheese, pepperoni and sausage were all delicious. The crust was a weird texture like a fluffy pillow. Aside from the crust we really enjoyed our meal. I remember being pretty excited to eat here but I was a little disappointed. It must be something about Watertown but a lot of the restaurants have strange hours and this is one of them. The menu is very limited. I don't eat red meat and I had maybe two options to choose from. They have a lot of specialty pizza's but not being in the mood for that I had to settle. If you want to get away from the routine tastes of Applebees & Texas roadhouse go to Arts Jug. It's home style Italian & American food with a friendly atmosphere. My favorite dish is the chicken limone. Always perfect when I order it, and delicious. Comes with a salad and your choice of side. Along with warm bread to start with. It's casual dining, but also a popular spot to go for special occasions as well. The staff is always friendly in my experience and the prices are on par with every other restaurant in the area. Been ordering pizza from Arts the same way for over ten years. Granted it's a special order with light sauce on one side and light cheese on the other. And for the most part this has been how they come. Tonight we were told this is not their policy. When I questioned why this was the first time we were ever told that - I was put on hold with no warning and was then talking to who I assume was a manger who refused to believe that ANY of her employees would have let us order that way, she attempted to get me to believe that despite how we were ordering they were not doing what we asked. As I'm sure you can understand that only made things worse. Guess Arts has forgotten the customer is always right. If I didn't know better, this pizza could have been a frozen, DiGiorno Cheese pizza with pepperoni added to one half of the pie. Art's jug is an unassuming Italian place with a surprisingly good menu. The specials were interesting and one of my two companions tried the Montreal Flatiron, whereas the other went for stuffed Flounder. I tried the pizza. Interestingly dinner options came with the usual potato options or alternatively spaghetti. The free Italian bread basket was very tasty, and the beer selection good, but dining companion one lamented the lack of Morretti. The pizza was great - definitely worth a return. The crust was moist inside but crispy outside, the toppings also quality. My friend with the flounder was very impressed considering Watertown is not exactly on the beach. Not being from Watertown, but having lived here 30 years, we have given Arts Jug multiple opportunities, but it always seems to come up short. Tonight was no different. It took easily 45 minutes to get our meals. I joked with my husband they must've had to go to Fairground to get my lasagna. He simply order the fried haddock with roasted potatoes ( boiled? ) After sitting there for what seemed like forever Our waitress asked us if we needed additional napkins? Mind you...we have no food... Appetizer we had ordered a while back was already boxed up waiting to go home. And ...My husband had already gone to the bar to refill our beverage after they sat empty for what seemed like an eternity. I honestly think she was just trying to make conversation. Finally after 45 minutes ... no joke....my lasagna with my one meatball, as requested, and my husband's fried haddock were served... Oh... the roasted ( boiled) potatoes were still gonna be a bit??? Huh? When the roasted ( boiled) potatoes were finally served, we asked for bread. The last of the bread had just been served to the table next to us, with their salads. Would rolls be OK? They just put some in to bake... it came when we had finished. Lasagna in an Italian restaurant with no Italian bread... Who'd a thunk... We ate, paid our bill, left her a 20% gratuity... Never to return. If you are from Watertown or the surrounding area and have fond childhood memories of this once fabulous eatery... Then I'm sure you will never have the experience we did, because your visit will be clouded by emotion. Next time We'll just go to the fairgrounds and get the Lasagna ....and bread ....ourselves. I've only done take-out here, but both the food and the service was awesome! The pizza was good, and their homemade dressing for the salad was incredible. They have great weekly food specials as well. I would definitely recommend adding a cannoli or two to the order - hands down one of the tastiest I've ever had. Meh, Arts was just so-so. We ordered for take out and I wasn't impressed. The chicken parm was salty and lacking flavor. The salad was straight iceberg lettuce. They were out of garlic knots at 7pm so we opted for half knots appetizer, they were very spicy. I don't mind spice but these had little flavor above the heat. We might go back but will probably opt for a different Italian restaurant if that's what we're in the mood for. read more

Been here a few times lately for family gatherings. I had the seafood pasta which was not good. It was missing one of the seafoods, the scallops were rubbery, and it came with a swirly macaroni pasta that just doesn't go with seafood dishes. The pizza is average with a lackluster crust. the toppings are usually decent however. The anitpasto isn't like what it used to be. There like 2 slices of cheese and salami and which is enough for 2 people. when you are trying to share with everyone (like it's meant to be), it just isn't enough for everyone. Servers are pretty nice and most of the food came out at the same time. Seems as though the food standards have fallen here or are stuck in the past compared to other restaurants in the area. I would not even give them 1 star if I could. We have been here before with no problem. Tonight, we came (party of 10) and last time this many of us came in, they put tables together in the dining room for us. As we were walking up to the RUDEST hostess I have ever seen, her and another waitress were saying, "don't seat anymore people". Not because they were full, but bc they didn't want to work. The hostess told us they only have seating for 10 at the bar where the table was occupied and would not give us an estimate of how long the wait. The dining room had at least 6 empty tables I clouding a huge wall length booth with multiple tables they could have put together for us like they did previous times(without us asking them to) but they refused and gave us snarky attitude. We decided to wait at the bar until the large table left. That big table got their food quick and were out trying door in no time. The bartender was an older lady and she was so snotty, sarcastic and NEVER smiled. She asked my husband what he wanted to drink but didn't ask me when I was sitting right next to him. Then my boss came over 5 minutes later and she asked him what he wanted to drink and he was standing between me and my husband's chair. I said to my husband, "wow, she didnt even acknowledge me, how rude." She came back over with a very mean attitude and said "I'm sorry, did I overlook you? I assumed you didn't want anything." why would she assume?? We came in at 6, they close at 9. Finally seated at 620 and was quickly waited on and at 750 we asked how much longer because the 2 tables next to us that came in at 645 and ordered and got their food before us (8 of them) and the rude hostess came over and yelled at us and said we didn't put our order in until 720 and it's only been an hr. The waitress didn't put our order in for half an hour after we ordered and she never came over to check on us or ask if we wanted more to drink. We had to go back up to the rude bartender to get drinks. The food is good but the service was horrendous. I am a bartender and have waitressed and have NEVER complained until now. This is my first yelp and I feel like it's worth it. Get new staff and you would being in more money. read more
