The guys at Arts Radiator did an amazing job with my car. Took it into them for a diagnosis and not only did the find the leak, but offered to let me replace the part or do it themselves. They also offered to repair the hose if I had a hard time finding a replacement. They also offer a 90 day "warranty" on their initial diagnosis. Essentially I didn't have to pay again when I brought the car back with the new parts installed. They also diagnosed and helped me find another issue that I'd been having with my electric fans insuring I didn't ruin my AC system with too high of pressure. This is a hole-in-the-wall GEM!! I found them on Yelp & was not disappointed. I had the heater core of my F150 replaced for $800 & Art showed me what & why I had a problem with the old unit. Yesterday, they evacuated, leak-tested (fluorescent dye) and charged the AC in my Cadillac XT6. $400 - half was the R1234yf refrigerant @ $200/lb. Seemed excessive until I skimmed Reddit & found similar cost after the shop markup. $145 shop rate was VERY reasonable. I was referred to this place by a local in my neighborhood, who spoke very highly of them and their affordability. I was pleasantly surprised when I called and was informed that I would be able to get in the very next day if I came at 8 AM or 9 AM. I opted for the 9 AM slot showed up, and promptly had my car looked at and diagnosed. I was lucky enough to only need to replace an O-ring, and was informed that the cost to fix would only be $300. I was in and out within an hour and a half. Art himself gave me a 90 day warranty on his work, the AC has been blowing icy cold since then. I always drive by this place and decided to stop by per my relative recommendation. I had stopped a day before asking for a quotation and drove off then I stopped by the next day because I had forgotten to ask one more thing how long is the process? I was told about 2 hours then we moved forward to make an appointment they squeezed me in the next day early morning just as they are opening up the business at @8am. I went to get a radiator back flushed, and damn it was gnarly! The employees were very patient with me, as I was asking questions they ended up educating me on when to get the back flush done again as well as telling me to use distilled water. I ended up needing a new radiator cap and a new hose for the filter so that was a few additionals on top of my original quote. I am very happy with how the service was, I will definitely be bringing my other cars. read more

So I came into this location hoping to get my AC fixed for an easy resolve. It took me 3 days of coming in to meet the owner finally on a Monday. During those 3 days I wanted to get a SERVICE price guaranteed, along with figuring out the issue with my cars AC unit. One of the gentlemen was very helpful in laying out service charges as well as the different prices for each maintenance parts. When I came that following Monday I called in before I arrived and the owner referred me to other options and businesses he said we don't negotiate prices and no employee should have distinguish prices but me. Regardless I thought maybe I was overthinking and the problem could just be easy fix or if unlucky the worst. I decided to get it done. When I got there i signed a waiver saying I am responsible for any other repair work, I thought nothing of it and that it was a protocol. they started hooking up my car with the AC recovery machine. It took him about 5 min to identify that the problem wasn't my refrigerant and it was a leak coming from my condenser. All in all for them to diagnose the issue is $145 for labor along with parts 20 dollars along with tax 1.50 total of 166.50 which isn't worth just knowing there will be other problems arising. Especially when you take it to a so called mechanics who claim to be in buisness for years. It's like the time they spent and the simplicity of what they did didn't match the diagnostic price. All in all they landed me a quote to get it fixed for a grand which is costly. I hate to call it out but don't go here not knowing the inspection is a just machine doing the job. Specially when your vehicle requires more work or has a leak. Also they have a Porta Potty not a usable one too. read more

My 2011 Maxima was leaking coolant and I ended up here because a Spring Valley mechanic recommended them. I got a brand new radiator. Fair price. Outstanding service. Small place put they make it work. Service was fast 2-3 hours same day. A day later it was 90 F in San Diego, on my way to work I turned on my AC and it doesn't work! My AC has never given me any problems in the 8 years I've had it. I called and they were glad to help me. Next morning I went to the shop and they diagnosed it and showered a leak, 2 O-rings in the compressor Paid more than half the amount I paid for the brand new radiator--- 2 days later I noticed coolant leak on my driveway ‍. Got a 2011 civic looked at by them. Ac was blowing cold but not as cold as it should've. Thought it may have had a leak or needed a recharge. Shops in the past have quoted me a new compressor going for over 1000 so I really wanted to find an honest place, it's an older car so I didn't want to put a ton of money into it. They took the car and inspected it and serviced my ac. Recharged it and checked for leaks. They called me to let me know a compressor fan wasn't working, thankfully they only quoted me 300. Now the ac blows colder than before and I know that everything else is working perfect on it because they inspected it for leaks. Very honest and efficient mechanics, and it's nice knowing they specialize in ac. If I would've gone with the other shop replacing the compressor it definitely still wouldn't fix the issue. Finally brought my car here. Before I just called and ask questions. Senior Art sounded very laid-back, like an honest person. Wanted to do my car a favor. Summer was just beginning. It ran with green coolant since I first bought it(2017). Never over heated. Drove all over Southern California. The correct coolant is called, "Dexcool." Labor was $80 for a back flush. I provided 2 gallons, not the 50/50 mixture. Said he will provide distilled water. About a month later my car overheated coming home from out of town. Went back to him, said it was the water pump. This time he wasn't even around. He let one of his guy do the work. The back flush was him. 10 days later my car over heated again! Art didn't sound like Art this time. Other customer was questioning him. What is it really, t-stat? Head gasket? He said he's not a mechanic. He tried to refer me to a mechanic in La Mesa. That shop bailed from Spring Valley to La Mesa. #3rd time: replaced t-stat. All the other customers left, I was the only customer there. Two of his guys were fooling around fixing my car. Wasted money on coolant three times. I'm starting to question, did he add enough coolant the first time? Did they bleed the system? The car never over heated, and why is it now? Replaced water pump - $180. Replaced t-stat - $100. Car still over heats. You may have a better experience than I do. Don't let my review stop you. P.S. I never went to that fraud shop he refer me to. read more

The a/c in my VW Passat was not giving cold air. We are in plain summer and its torture! Decided to stop here as i drove by. I was immediately greeted and attended to by two workers. I then found out one of them was the owner. The owner, an older kind gentleman, gave an explanation of what needed to be done to the car. The owner and other workers offered for me to sit and wait under a shade, which I did. I waited 40 minutes total which was great, considering that they had to vacuum air out and put gas for a/c in. The cost was $117 for the job which is well worth it! Not expensive at all. Warranty for 90 days too. I took my 2008 Honda Civic to Art's two weeks ago to see if my AC could be fixed without too much struggle. They changed some fluids, fixed some electrical components, which didn't work, but then diagnosed the problem with the startup and eventually replaced the correct part. I was appreciative that they showed me what they did and explained the source of the problem, because even the Honda maintenance shop was unable to fix my AC. I was charged exactly what was quoted to me even though it took an extra few steps to fix beyond what they initially thought. While some people might not enjoy the atmosphere at Art's, I personally thought it was cool to be able to see them work on the car.
