Great and imaginative menu. Cute spot. Didn't have reservations so sat at the bar. Was met by a super friendly bartender that took good care of us. Menu was thru a QR code...ugh! But luckily they provided an iPad with the menu loaded so it came in a larger format. Started with a Cops de Garcia red wine, then a Gillis con bacalao, followed by a duck paella and a carrier's de cardo. All were delicious with presented beautifully. Each dish had subtle and unique flavors that blended well together. The portions were on the small side but great nonetheless. An enjoyable evening!
We came in for dinner and although we did not have a reservation, they are able to take us without a wait. The place is small and feels like you're walking through a labyrinth. It has a very intimate feel, and they have interesting photography and artwork on display. Our server was friendly and was able to give great recommendations about the menu. One of my favorite things was that the wine menu is on a tablet, you can select the wine and read about the various notes and see what foods will pair well with it. Based on the server's recommendations, we ordered the duck and mushroom paella along with the classic seafood paella. The duck mushroom paella was so delicious and flavorful. I think we should have tried the seafood paella first, since it seemed underwhelming after eating the mushroom duck paella. The tortilla de Betanzo was simple and delicious. The scallops were accompanied by an amazing sauce, that left me wanting more. For dessert, we ordered the tarta de queso ahumado, such unique and well blended flavors. The food was a bit pricey but the quality was great.
Arume is one of the popular spots in Barcelona for paella, but specifically the duck paella. It's special because you don't often find a duck paella on the menu. Be aware that you don't get the socarrat (crispy bottom) that many paellas have, but the flavor itself is still worthwhile. The restaurant is located along some "sketchy" alleys, but just head straight here and out. Once inside, it's led into multiple rooms into the back that feels like an underground cave. To start off, we had some Bread (€1.50), Butifa Croquettes (€3/pcs), and Bay Scallop (€7.50/pcs). The bread came with a tube of olive oil, which was pretty cool way to be served. The croquette and scallop were both good, although quite pricey for each item. For main entrees, we shared the Iberian Pork (€22.50) and Duck Paella (€18.50). Both of these dishes were incredibly flavorful and delicious. The sauce on the dish was savory and this meat was so tender. The paella was also full of flavor balanced with the cream mixture. It's more similar to a porridge consistency, but still so tasty. This dish is just so unique that you need to try it for yourself. Overall, delicious food, dim-lit environment, and friendly customer service. It's a pricier meal, but everything we had was delicious.
The service here was so wonderful. We loved Emmy! The location is not great and it was hard to find the place, but worth looking for. We tried the octopus and the tortilla de patata and liked both. We loved the duck paella! We also had the marisco paella but two out of four of us did not love it. Overall it was great and we'd love to come back!
Skip this place. First time in Barcelona, super excited to try seafood Paella in Spain. Worst paella I've ever had, flavor was awful. Also worst and most expensive meal I had in Barcelona. We had a paella cooking class scheduled elsewhere that week, I was going to cancel thinking if this is what Paella tastes like in Spain no thanks, thankfully the paella we made in class was delicious, thus confirming it's just this place that has bad paella. I think people see the good reviews and feel bad leaving an honest one, but it was so disappointing I feel it's only fair to honestly warn others because we wish we skipped this place. Also Sangria is flavorless due to being watered down.
One of the best meals I had in Barcelona. There are so many tapas and paella spots that it's hard to find one that really stands out, but I was wrong. Everything I had at Arume stood out. From the layout of the place (there was clear glass over a well that you walk over as decoration) to the music choices, the vibes were just on par. We asked the waiter to choose a white and red for us that she recommended. Each bottle she chose for us was delicious and right on the nose of what we had wanted. Appetizers -- We got the baked scallops (comes 2 per order) and the calamari. Both were flavorful and delicious. Main course -- Get the duck paella! If nothing else, I hope you at least try that. The duck paella is nothing I had like before. There were duck chunks, the flavor was on point and not too salty, and the cream on top helps balance out the flavors. The waiter said it was a single person portion, but we weren't too hungry and had order a lot of apps, along with fried pumpkin, that it was just the right size for 4 people. Dessert -- We were recommended the cheesecake brulee. It was not too sweet, nice and fluffy. Highly recommend making reservations to this place if you're traveling to Barcelona!
One of the highest Yelp ranked places in Barcelona and I know why. The food is delicious, the staff are full of smiles and the price is very reasonable. It's a cute restaurant with a warm environment as soon as you walk in. Items we tried: scallop- wow, fresh and they top it off with something crunchy with a little sauce. Fantastic! Duck paella - first time eating duck paella and absolutely delicious! Bread - bread is fresh and great tasting olive oil to go with it. Simple yet delicious.
We were SO excited to try this, but had an odd experience. The octopus appetizer was pre-cooked; I know this because the flavor was excellent but it was barely warm AND lightly fried. I even had a cold bite. The scallop I received was raw. The second one tasted like vanilla instead of truffle. The croquet was nice but I personally did not care for the flavor. The duck paella was actually not good- too little duck, too rich. Maybe it's me- I did not enjoy the flavor at all. The wine tablet was very cool; lots of details on the wines; loved that! The ambiance was just weird. I felt scared walking away from the restaurant- creepy guys walking around and women in full burkas. I don't know what has happened to this area of town, but I no longer feel safe here. I don't understand how this place is so well regarded on TripAdvisor or here. Contrary to popular opinion, Arume was pretty mediocre to me. Perhaps I had high expectations for this and it fell short of my expectations or I just ordered the wrong items. I may have not been impressed with my meal here, but other than that the service and hospitality made my experience quite pleasant. We made reservations for 8pm on a Wednesday night. Upon arrival, I was relieved we made reservations because the restaurant seemed rather small, but we soon found out that there's an extensive back area to the restaurant. We ordered the octopus tempura, ceviche, seafood paella and 2 drinks to share. I didn't love the texture of both the ceviche and octopus, but the shining factor of both dishes were the sauces drizzled on top of it. They really elevated the dish much more and helped the flavors of the seafood shine. A lot of people recommended the duck paella, but we opted for seafood paella just because of personal preference. Maybe that's where we went wrong, because I thought the paella was just average. The drinks, on the other hand, were delicious! I would come back here just for the blackberry mojito.
This is a cute tapas bar in a gritty part of town. It looks small at first glance, but there are a few additional rooms in the back. I had the seared tuna and fried octopus appetizers. Both were pretty good, but I thought the yuzu parmentier that came with the fried octopus had a funny taste and was unnecessary (1 star off). The grilled giant scallop was my favorite, as it had a ton of flavor and the sweet corn crema on top added a nice touch. The duck and mushroom paella had a wonderful umami flavor, but had very few pieces of duck and lacked the crispy bottom for a great paella (1 star off). The smoked cheesecake was just okay -- I did not detect any smoke flavor and it seemed days old. Overall, it was a nice place for lunch if you are in the area, but with all the tapas bars around, I probably would not make a special trip here.

This place a bit away from the main streets and the sign isn't too noticeable. I was able to make a reservation right away for the same day for lunch since it was still early. However, when we got there the tables were already full. Highly suggest you make a reservation. Now, on to their paella. Their famous duck paella is very tasty but not the traditional paella flavor. I swear the rice tasted like it had soy sauce. Never know. Fusion these days. The seafood paella was okay. It was good but again not the traditional paella flavor. So we ordered two servings of the seafood but it only came with 3 shrimp. So one serving has one and a half of a shrimp? The steak tartare was a nice surprise. If I didn't read the menu, I would have thought it poke. It had just enough heat to say a little spicy??? But just a hint. read more

Tried a lot of food in Barcelona and this was easily my favorite. I felt as it was normal tapas taken to the next level. You have to get a reservation to eat here (easy to get) and Id say it's worth it! Octopus in Tempura - Pretty unique! A little bit chewy but fun to eat as an appetizer Dressed Oyster- these were okay - id pass Spanish Sausage Croquette - Best appetizer I had! Wanted to order more after the meal. Great outside crisp and flavorful inside Pickled Mussels - these were unique, Id pass Seafood Paella - The rice was cooked well and the mussels were extremely tender. Only thing is the fishy flavor was a bit too strong Duck Paella - Best thing in Barcelona. Wasn't something I was planning to get but was an amazing dish. Would come back just for this! read more

Best meal I had in Barcelona! Atmosphere: Located along a small street in El Raval, this place catches your eye when you walk by. The entrance is adorned with plates and you can see a warmly lit wooden room as you look in. This place feels very cozy, making a fabulous and intimate dining experience. Food: I can go on and on about the duck paella. Maybe it's because I love duck, but there's something about the combination of savory duck broth + rice + foamy mayonnaise that make a perfect combination. This dish was my favorite during my 3 day visit to Barcelona and I will definitely come back for this dish in the future. Our table also got the croquettes and Iberian pork, which were very good as well. The pork was very tender and a very good quality. read more
Get their duck paella. It's the best paella I've ever had!! It's so rich and savory. The whole dish seems saturated with that nice duck fat taste. It was indeed a little too salty, even splitting a single portion between two people. Ceviche: Delicious and tender, but portion size is a little too small for the 13,50 euro cost. Crispy octopus: this one was a solid appetizer. The octopus was both crispy and tender, and came with a nice cheesy potatoey sauce. Also, do not buy their bread for a starter. It costs 1 euro for small piece. read more

Amazing dinner!! Probably one of the best places we visited in Barcelona. We ordered quite a few dishes, but the most memorable were the duck rice and ceviche. I highly recommend you try those two dishes when you visit here. I still think about the duck rice from time-to-time, it's pretty much like a duck paella. I'll definitely be returning here next time I am in Barcelona. read more

One of the best meals we had in Barcelona. Get both Paellas you won't regret it. Steak tartar. Lamb lingot. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. Fun and a laid back vibe. Shout out to the manager for giving us 3 shots of their house liquor. We stumbled out full and happy. read more

We had an amazing time here! The restaurant was cozy and the decor was fun to look at. They had different pieces hanging on the ceiling and walls. Everything we had was delicious. The paella is a must try. I fee like as a tourist I wanted some delicious paella and I was not disappointed. We were reluctant to have the cod, but it was INCREDIBLE! The puree at the bottom really brought it all together. Another favorite was the cheesecake. The texture and the flavor were insane. I would absolutely come back here. And I recommend going! read more

Went out with a bang for the last night in Barcelona. Abrume lives up to its lofty reviews. Got a reservation and walked right in. The food was perfect. I've only had duck a few times, and now I'm ruined. The duck paella was phenomenal. As was the rare pork, I could not recommend This restaurant highly enough. This was our first stop in Barcelona and it was one of my favorite restaurants. You'll definitely need to make a reservation. Their duck paella was othe best paella I have ever had. You really can't go wrong with any of their dishes. read more
Had to give this place a 5 star for its food and service! Duck paella, ceviche and calamari is a must order and try! The place is very simple and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this spot! Must bill reservations in advance since it's also a Popular local spot. read more

Great off the beaten path restaurant in gothic quarter - duck paella had umami / Asian flavor to it (was a bit salty for my preference) but still yummy. Our table preferred the seafood paella. Paella portions were for 1-2, so allowed for more room to try other dishes! All star dish was the scallops - cooked perfectly, super buttery and delicious with truffle at the bottom. Super fun first night out in barcelona! read more
Another local favorite when in Barcelona! make reservations ASAP on their page: https://www.arumerestaurant.com/contacto tucked away in one of barcelona's many alleyways, you will most likely miss it or walk right by it. a quick note, make sure your GPS works or have a map handy, Barcelona's alleys are endless and it can be easy to get lost. now to Arume. we got a few main dishes here! my favorite one was the duck paella! how can you not. sangria jarra of course and a bottle of wine Arcum Roble. the restaurant looks tiny but it goes on forever once you are in, we were pretty tucked in the back. our waitress was cheerful and funny and dishes came out fairly fast. read more

Great food, personable service by a very lively waitress (forgot her name), welcoming, chic & cozy ambience in the middle of the El Raval. The neighborhood is not for the fainthearted. We walked there from La Ramblas at night and we were okay. Just be vigilant. If you take taxi and you should be fine. Their specialty, the duck paella, was different from your regular paella and tasty. I'm glad we tried it, but I would probably pass it next time. It was a bit too salty for me. Some people really like the vibrant flavors so I'd say give it a try since you're already here. Spanish omelette was awesome, soft and fluffy with a tender yolky texture inside. Scallops were amazing. The best part was surprisingly the bread and olive oil. Croquettes were okay. Oh don't forget to order a pitcher of Sangria! We met a couple of fellow Americans and a British couple there. Everyone was so friendly. We had a great conversation and were all presented with complimentary ports to rinse our palates at the end. read more

I can't even begin to explain how superb this restaurant is. The husband and I walked many miles from our hotel to this restaurant (the neighborhood is a little sketchy). We were the first in line right when the doors opened at 7:00 PM. We didn't have a reservation but luckily they sat us at a table. I ordered the blackberry mojito like everyone suggested and it was excellent- a little on the sweeter side but it was really good! My husband doesn't like sweet stuff and even he ordered one! They gave us complimentary bread with Spain's finest olive oil (love the presentation). We ordered the crispy octopus and scallops. I highly recommend the crispy octopus! It came with potato foam with a taste of lime. For the main entrees we ordered the seafood paella and the duck paella. The seafood paella had a lot of seafood flavor. I appreciate that it came with prawns. The duck paella had green peppers, mushrooms, and a special cream that you're supposed to mix together. The seafood paella was great, but the duck paella was out of this world! It had an Asian flavor to it... almost like pork sausage. They also give you a special coffee liquor after your meal. The staff was very professional and courteous. This was hands down the best restaurant we ate at. We even tried their sister restaurant Cera 23. read more

Cozy spot with delightful staff, and not to mention my paella craving was completely satisfied! We ordered the crispy octopus as an appetizer and the duck paella and seafood paella. Both paellas were delicious but I slightly prefer the duck, the rice was so flavorful! Also loved their sangria and blackberry mojito. Definitely worth a visit! read more
really good authentic paella hidden away in streets of barcelona. be sure to make a reservation because it's a cozy hole in the wall so it fills up fast. the paella is fresh and delicious well seasoned and big enough for two people. lots of clams rice and some calamari. i really enjoyed it! i also got the clams and artichokes appetizer. this was a hit! came with bread to soak up all the yummy. the service is fantastic i will definitely visit again soon A+ 8/10 read more

Tucked away on a small street and a gem of a find. Didn't make reservations so sat at the bar. Went to dinner around 6:30-7:00 or so so the bar was empty but dinning room was full. Staff was awesome and bartender was friendly. They eventually had a table open up for us but we like the bar area and elected to stay. Food was great. Paella was for 1 serving and the white sangria is worth trying. read more
Made a reservation about 5 days before arriving for dinner. It's definitely hard getting used to eating dinner at 930pm, but when in Spain.... Ordered up a Sangria and the duck paella. I've only had paella a number of times in the states but this was just a different situation. Belts were unbuckled, burps were let out in order to make room. Best paella I've had, but I haven't had too many so I don't consider myself an expert.... read more

One of the best dining experiences I've had in Barcelona. The restaurant was packed and the staff immediately welcomed me as I entered. Got to my table and the wait staff could not have been nicer and attentive. I ordered the Ceviche, Tortilla and Crispy Octopus. All were delicious. Then had both the Duck Rice and Seafood Paella. They both were amazingly flavorful. Probably the best rice dishes I've ever had. I left nothing in those pots to take home. I highly recommend Arume if you're in Barcelona. This is a place where reservations are highly preferable. I did come on a day without any reservation, but I did get here 10 minutes before they opened and 2 minutes before the second group showed up.. so I guess the hostess took pity and I was able to get a table. Though I do see a good amount of empty tables left.. so... Anywhosals, let's get to the food: Thai Curry Mussels- fresh and delicious. The sauce that came with is very rich and not at all overly heavy. I can see me eating it with just a bowl of rice or a plate of pasta. Very buttery and creamy. Definitely recommended if you're a fan of rich food. Though it did leave a... musselly aftertaste. But it's not overly... overwhelming. Fried octopus - small but good. The octopus was not too greasy, given that it's fried. But the potato mush it came with was kinda weird. Coin toss on ordering it again. Seafood Paella - large for one person but perfect for two people. I ordered it with normal salt, though most people orders with less. But I stand by my decision. Better with normal salt, brings out the flavors. Fresh seafood, good flavor. A good choice to order tapas here with the paella if you're in the mood for one. (Additional side note: you may experience slight grittiness in one of the seafood items.) Grilled calamari- slightly more chewy than expected. Didn't care too much for the black (bean?) stuff on the bottom, it was mushy, I'm not sure how I feel about it. But overall pretty darn fresh. I wouldn't order it again though. The service is (pretty) tentative, comparing to the rest of the places I've been to. All waitresses speak English and check on you often as well as explain any questions you have (not that one would much). Price- average for tapas and for the portions they give. Recommended dish: Thai curry mussels and seafood paella. read more
While coming to Barcelona, I was looking up the best paella. You have a lot of different answers, but this restaurant come up for duck paella which was a little different, so we decided to check it out. The inside is small and intimate. If you want to come here, I highly suggest making reservations. We were able to make reservations for relatively early (at least for Barcelona) at about 630. The service was quick and our waiter was very nice. For a starter, we got Uncle Walter's Ceviche which was seabass with avocado emulsion. It was delicious. The sauce was bright with the pomegranate and rich with the avocado. The fish was the perfect protein and kept the overall dish light. For our entree, my husband and I split the duck paella which was the entire reason we came here. This was spectacular. The duck is a fattier meat than a more traditional seafood paella. The rice was sticky yet creamy creating an excellent texture. The garlic foam was interesting an interesting texture, but added flavor to the dish. To end the night, we ordered the coconut pannacotta with passionfruit foam and pineapple. It was an absolute treat. The pannacotta was creamy and the passion fruit foam was tart making a great pair. This was a light and delectable way to end the night. I loved it. You have to come here for paella in Barcelona. I wish I could go all the time. read more

Sangria was too sweet for ma. Scallop was very good. Artichoke flavor was good but doesn't taste like fresh artichoke but canned. Cmon. Pork Tortilla (mini thin slice pork only) egg was half way cook which was perfect. Menu seems too Asian fusion for me, half of the restaurant was Asian tourists too. read more
Food and service was great overall. This was my first meal in Barcelona and it left a great first impression! Love eating tapas because you can try everything! Family and I had a great meal here...so glad we made reservations as there was a line out the door! We had heard this was one of "the" places to get paella in Barcelona, so we figured we'd give it a try. All four of us started with one of their signature blackberry mojitos. The drinks were artfully crafted with a nice sour taste and chock full of fresh fruit on top. It was a bit too sweet for my wife, but the rest of us enjoyed the flavors. We decided to share an appetizer dish before the main meal, so we split the artichoke hearts. The appetizer was creamy and had a slightly smoky flavor in the small bites. For mains, seafood and a duck paella dish were shared. I thought the seafood version was briny and robust, but the duck version with roasted peppers and fresh cream was rich, decadent and my favorite dish of the two. The girls split a dessert cup, and we were off into the night to continue our Spanish adventures! Good times and a fun spot. Well worth seeking out. read more
