I completely fell in love with the aesthetic of As Above, So Below once we walked in. The dark, gothic look and feel is quite lovely. The lighting was pretty dimly lit adding to the ambience we well. I thoroughly enjoyed scoping out all the decor. They completely ran with their theme here and killed it! It was a bit later in the evening on a Saturday night, and the vibe was very chill. We found two seats at the bar and my boyfriend happily reviewed the cocktail menu, enjoying the cocktail names. As did I! Rosemary's Baby being the first one I saw brought a smile to my face. (I love that movie!) I ended up with a boozy hot cocoa called Some Like It Hot Cocoa. It was delicious and exactly what I wanted at the end of the night. Something sweet but not a complete sweet. It came fully equipped with whip cream and a chile shaped biscochito as well. My boyfriend was quite intrigued in their gin as well their spirit offerings. After a plethora of questions for our bartender, we ended up doing a tasting and took home a bottle of their IXCHEL, their Dry Curacao. I highly recommend doing a tasting, or a flight. It is definitely worth it. If you take a home bottle after a tasting, the tasting is free! Kudos to Chris, our bartender that evening. Since I don't indulge, this rating is based on viewing my colleague's exclamations and expressed satisfaction...and her purchases! Service from the bartender was thoughtful, knowledgeable, flexible, and engaging. My colleague initially wanted to taste one item based on another vendor's recommendation to visit this venue. A wise one! The bartender noted in the flight menu that the beverage in question could be added to the flight. Very nice of him, he didn't delete a flight to fit it in, either! Another colleague asked if she purchased, would the flight be free? Answer: yes! Two bottles, minimum. She loved them all, but selected three of the flights to purchase; two full bottles and one half bottle. (Business traveler/ International colleague with a travel liquor limit). Bottles were very well priced, and she'd can't wait to introduce them to colleagues in Taiwan! The decor and spacious area set a casual, respectful vibe which lends to a great venue for small groups, solo visitors, and couples on a date. There was a solo reading customer comfortably seated in a couch set up like a living room. There was a couple in another seating area and some friends at the bar. Didn't look much further in though. I have loved As Above So Below since the beginning. I have lived here since 2016. I believe as I get older that customer service beats out just about everything. I love the absinthe here...even bought a few bottles for home over the years. Yet, this past Thursday when I went during an intermission during a railyard concert....i found 1 seat at the end of the bar, was told immediately and quite curt by the bartender, "there are 4 orders ahead of yours" as though my presence was just adding to his workload. I told him to take his time...and he did....eventually looking at me as though I was the chosen one at that moment. Not sure how soon I'll be visiting the bar again...but they are the only place in town for a decent absinthe. read more

Glassware is also interesting. Definitely a little slow on the service but it does take time to make these drinks and one day was pretty busy. They are also quite pricey but they do have a happy hour and they are definitely delicious and quality drinks. The collab with other local companies is also great. One word describes this distillery- WOW! I came here about a month ago on a little staycation and I am still thinking about it. The decor and ambiance gave a spooky yet elevated feel. There was an obvious love and dedication to the craft as well as supporting local. Every drink was done to perfection. The bartenders were friendly and efficient. The only thing thats a bummer is that it's not in ABQ so I cant come here all the time! I saw they do events with Crows Nest oddities store so I am definitely going to make an effort to come paint some skulls while sipping on these mind blowing cocktails. read more

Note to self: time spent drinking great cocktails with great people never time wasted. Seriously though, I really should spend more time in Santa Fe. It's so close yet so far away. I really want to invest a little more time and energy and exploring all that little city has to offer. Like really great cocktail bars. I came with some friends after an event at Violet Crown next-door. It's kind of funny cause we went to get into our cars and then realize it was literally next-door to where we had already been. All of which is right by the train stop which in future visits would be perfect. Anyways, we came during a time in which they were doing a tropical themed Christmas pop-up bar, which was so fun. They had all kinds of fun glasses and themed cocktails. I got the choquito which I will admit was just OK, but it really was more of a problem with the name and not living up to a coquito should be. Too much lime. The other cocktails that we tried really saved the day. Specifically, the espresso cocktail which my friends ordered multiple rounds of. I really loved the decor. It's a super fun bar. Altar Spirits is beautiful located in the Santa Fe now known "As Above, So Below Distillery". First lets just start with location and the inside. I love that its on the rail yards so you can pop in before or after a movie or after the market. The inside is modern, clean and welcoming. The bathrooms are very nice and clean. For the customer service I have always had a great experience, the mixologists have explained the drink menu clearly and they offer fun drinks with a twist. Living in ABQ now and coming home to Santa Fe this is definitely a gem. read more

This is a super cute location with great decor and evening events! My friends and I tried different drinks and shared sips. Mine was probably the worst one because it tasted extremely bitter when I expected it to be more creamy and soft. I think they brewed the tea for too long or something because I couldn't even finish it. My friends got fruity drinks and they definitely tasted better than mine. You have to order at the bar but there's no signage for that so just a heads up. The bartenders were nice and quick in making the drinks, but most of them are pre batched too. Will probably be back to give it another try since they have seasonal menus with different options and I've heard great things! Very cute spot we stopped at while visiting some friends in Santa Fe. Very welcoming throughout with cool decor and some vintage pieces. I especially loved this giant storage cabinet and all the little skulls on the wall (adorably adorned with little Christmas hats for the holiday season). I didn't actually get anything to drink here, just some water (though the little tap they had actually had a vaguely fizzy-but-not-quite-seltzer water). The drinks my husband and friends got mostly came in cute seasonal cups like a santa mermaid shaped mug. Everyone seemed to enjoy the drinks. Big shout out to some of the best bathrooms I've ever seen! The bathroom area is one big open room with several all-gender stalls with full length doors and "occupied/vacant" locks. The main large room has several sinks for all to use. Perfect kind of bathroom I wish all places would install. Also just nice decor and vibes throughout, even in the bathroom area. read more

The vodka was smooth and flavorful, the gin SURPRISED me with his good it was (and I'm not a gin drinker), purchased a bottle of the bourbon and the absinthe was the cherry on top. The owner is so knowledgeable and friendly. The ambiance here is so comfy and chic. I absolutely loved it so much that I came back the next day to have another cocktail. It's in a cool Railyard area. What an adorable distillery!! I was lured in by the cool logo and funky name, only to be blown away by the interior. Whoever was in charge of decorating... Come do my house?? Some of the coolest decor I've seen at a distillery and definitely fits with the Santa Fe vibe. I came in the early afternoon so there were very few patrons, allowing me to pick from a wide selection of fun, cozy seating arrangements. I really appreciate it when places have options for you to snuggle up with a loved one, lounge solo with a book, sit with acquaintances, post up at a table to get work done, or hang at the bar. As Above So Below checked all these boxes for me. They had just released their absinthe when I visited, so I opted for one of their absinthe cocktails. Very delicious - I wish I could have tried more as their menu had some fun stuff to choose from. I ended up leaving with a bottle because #epic. Lastly, the gal working was very kind, happy to answer any questions I had, and knowledgeable. If you're in Santa Fe looking for a place to enjoy an evening out, DO NOT waste your time or money at As Above So Below. This place is the poster child for pretentiousness without the talent or charm to back it up. Let's start with the bartenders: rude, condescending, and so full of themselves you'd think they invented cocktails. I don't expect over-the-top friendliness, but basic courtesy isn't too much to ask. Instead, they act like they're doing you a favor by even acknowledging your existence. When I asked a simple question about the menu, I got an eye roll so dramatic it belonged in a soap opera. The drinks? Overpriced and mediocre at best. They clearly think they're operating some world-class mixology lab, but the execution was laughable. One cocktail I ordered tasted like someone spilled cheap vodka into a jar of pickles. And heaven forbid you ask for something classic--they'll scoff and tell you "we don't do that here." The vibe? It's like they're trying to be edgy and exclusive, but it just feels uncomfortable and forced. Pretentious décor, unwelcoming staff, and a crowd that's trying way too hard to be hip. It's a far cry from the relaxed, genuine charm that Santa Fe is known for. There are so many fantastic places in Santa Fe to grab a drink and enjoy good company. As Above So Below isn't one of them. Hard to find with maps directions to the back door BUT if you are on the Farmers Market trackside, just look across the tracks and search for it. They had a live band and a small area to dance right in front of the band. When you walk in, you go to the register, place your order, they give you a card, and then you wait for your order. They have beer, wine and cocktails. I ordered their version of a margarita, I do not recall the name, but it started with a "x". It was awful. It tasted like air freshener. It was pretty and I did not enjoy my drink at all. My friend wanted a bullet, but they informed him they do not serve those, and would give him a house drink l. It was AWFUL. I fell in love with this distillery and it made me want to move to Santa Fe. I loved the witchy vibes around the distillery, like the names of their liquors (Ritual and Sigil), the brooms, and some of the merchandise for sale. I also appreciated the all-gender bathrooms with complimentary hygiene products. Just such a thoughtful gesture. We visited right at opening on a Saturday so it wasn't busy and we sat at the bar. Staff was really friendly and attentive. I tried the Spring Sour, which was a sweet gin-based drink, and the Xochitl, which was a smoky mezcal-based margarita. I preferred the Spring Sour because I like sweet drinks, but both were good! Just really enjoyed the drinks and the ambiance. Good atmosphere here- very chill and calm vibes when you walk in. The place is very trendy and has lots of plants scattered all over. Be sure to stop by the familiar wall and say hello! Our bartender was very nice and knew a lot. We did the tasting, which was a flight of the house vodka, the aperitivo, and gin. I am a vodka lover, so that was by far my favorite. The gin is very earthy and herbal, and the aperitivo was really sweet. We really enjoyed the tasting, and from there we ordered some drinks for ourselves. My boyfriend got the Thirteen cups (absinthe drink) and I had an item off the specials menu that the waitress recommended called "the road to Chama", which was absolutely amazing. I had two of the same drink, and while my boyfriend said the Thirteen cups was probably the best mixed drink he'd had in a long time- he tried the Barbaras (a gin gimlet) on the second round, which was also great! We came here before dinner and it was a wonderful start to our date night the only thing I would say is it is a little difficult to find.
