Popped in for lunch last week, first time trying sushi in Tulsa. Service was exceptionally good, staff was attentive and friendly. I ordered a mix of rolls and and sushi. Ordered several rolls to get the half off deal. Rolls were delicious, really good. The sushi had a fishy after taste which I should have known better but I finished meal. If you'd of asked me the second the meal was over I would have said easy 4 stars. Great service, nice atmosphere, great rolls and ok nigiri. Unfortunately by dinner I was sick and by nighttime violently ill. Lost about two days to just brutal food poisoning. Had lunch on Friday couldn't keep anything down until Sunday night. I eat sushi all the time and I can say this was by far the worst food poisoning I've ever dealt with. Disappointing because everyone was genuinely nice and it seemed like a good place but fish quality is everything. If the sushi is warm and fishy... Giving the 2nd star as a testament to how friendly and nice the staff was, but just can't go back. Will probably be off sushi in general for a while after this. read more

This review is based on a single visit, but other than the great service (there was no one else in the restaurant), I wasn't super impressed with this place. I will say, the price point for the "half-price" rolls is unbeatable. The quality of the "half-price" rolls is pretty weak and did not taste fresh, but I enjoyed the rolls from the other side of the menu much more. The Tornado Roll was really good. The Mango Crunch Roll was also good. The Spider Roll was meh. I ordered ahead and decided to eat in the restaurant since there were no other customers and I was ahead of schedule for the rest of my day. The employee I picked up my food from was very rude. Like I said, I decided to eat at a table in the empty restaurant. She was upset that I decided to eat at a table in the restaurant, she said next time order food you take outside and no eat in restaurant. And there were zero other customers in the restaurant at the time. I asked for an extra pair of chopsticks for my daughter as I ordered enough sushi for us both. The employee let out a large sigh and seemed inconvenienced at my request. I won't be ordering from this restaurant again..a customer is a customer,whether they are a walk in customer or a take out order customer. Was a little alarmed when we are the only people in there for dinner and there was a white guy making the sushi, but there was nothing really to be worried about. Just moved here and so far I have not been impressed with any of the sushi here, even in the raw which people claim to love, but this place was good. It was really good for the price point! It was good sushi very well sliced at a very low price point so overall it's the best I've found here so far. Service was excellent, could tell they have regulars which always makes me feel good about a place, and everything was served at appropriate times in the meal (salad, sushi, rice bowl) not all places do that so I liked that a lot! My uncle got the octopus salad bowl and loved that and I got seaweed salad and tuna sushi which I thought was very good. only negative was the pink ginger. I've been coming here since 2006. I love it here. Sure the decor hasn't changed much but they do make some good sushi and this place has character. I love their salmon sushi but usually get the tuna sushi with it. It's mana on my lips. Tasty and good quality! Asahi is a decent place to go for discount sushi. The 8 rolls we ordered totaled $30, which is significantly less than most other places in town. Their 1/2 price offer on three or more of their standard rolls is probably their best feature. With that in mind, it isn't the quality that you'd find and one of the more upscale sushi places in town. The consistency is not what it used to be, but it's not a bad experience overall. While this is not the place for a "sushi snob" (everyone's a "snob" about something), it's good for someone hankering for budget sushi prices in South Tulsa. I've been doing here off and on since about when they opened several years ago, and have always found the service to be pretty good. I hadn't been in a couple years, but I remembered it can be kind of warm inside once I stepped back in the place. This may have been what contributed to a couple of our rolls being luke warm. I'd recommend this place for the person looking for value sushi on the south side of town. But come find out for yourself, and share with us how it is! read more

I threw away half of it. I had a basic spicy roll and one specialty roll. The chicken and rice...awful. Chicken was chopped into pieces that looked like it came from a TV dinner and the rice just was not good at all. Spend the extra few dollars and go to a place like Yokozuna or In The Raw. I don't see what people are saying about Asahi going downhill. I visited recently for the first time in a year or two and was pleasantly surprised to find just the same quality food as before. First off, Asahi is cheap sushi, there's no doubt about it. But, for cheap sushi it is very good. If you are used to San Francisco bay area standards you might be slightly disappointed, but for the price you're paying, the quality of food is excellent. There have also been many times when the staff has come out with a separate dish of sushi on the house. The family who owns this place is very nice and the service is excellent, although when they are busy they can be very slow to respond. They have a wide selection of sushi that is very very tasty. My favorite sushi is unagi (eel) and yellowfin, but I absolutely abhor Philadelphia and California rolls. They also have a large menu of cooked food if you're not into sushi. I recommend the miso or the tempura. A favorite of my friends is the teriyaki chicken. Also, Asahi is not wholly traditional Japanese, it is what americans have mostly appropriated into Japanese food (I don't think going to find any Okonomiyaki or gyutan here). But I believe it's the closest thing to traditional you'll find in Tulsa. Overall I find their food to be really good, and it doesn't leave too much of a dent in the wallet. If you want sushi, you must go here. read more
