Tuna Kawa Roll - tastes as good as it looks!
    Kim J.

My husband and I visited Oishi for the first time recently, and it was absolutely delightful. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. We started with the gyoza, which were perfectly seared and served with a lightly sweetened sauce. The filling was perfect. For the main course, I ordered the tuna kawa roll, which was incredibly fresh. I particularly enjoyed the mango inside - a wonderful twist and very complimentary to the tuna and avocado. It's obvious they prioritize high-quality cuts of fish and want to feature that instead of wrapping a little bit of sushi ingredients into large chunks of rice. My husband ordered the yaki soba. I got one bite, and it was delicious. I forgot to share part of my sushi and before we knew it, we had eaten everything. The most difficult part of the evening was deciding on what we wanted to order, so we'll definitely be back to try more of the menu!

The ambiance & decor are what made me stay. Each wall has its own unique style and it's so enjoyable, even when dining alone. The edamame was warm and lightly salted (plenty to share). I liked the Seaweed Sales, though it was moister than I expected. The Tuna Lovers Roll is an exposition of flavor! Three different tunas and beautifully presented. I also ordered the Red Snapper & Smoked Salmon Nigiri; but had a very fresh flavor, but a bit on the thin side (good thing I was already stuffed). They have a limited wine selection, but the house Sauvignon Blanc was fine, especially for the price. I'll be back to try the ramen next time I'm in town.

This just might be my new favorite Tulsa spot for sushi. Authentic flavor, great service and place was packed! Our service was attentive and knowledgeable and food came out in a timely fashion. Ramen was sooo good too!

Finally tried Oishi for lunch after reading many great reviews. I ordered one of their lunch specials, which was a spicy tuna roll and 6 pieces of nigiri. I asked if I could substitute a salmon roll for the spicy tuna, but that was not allowed. They have some other roll and sushi/sashimi combos for the same price. But I guess no mix and match. The spicy tuna roll was a very good rice to filling ratio. However I didn't really get much spice out of the roll - seemed rather bland to me unfortunately as it was built nicely. The nigiri included salmon, tuna, white tuna, yellowtail, mackerel, and one I was not sure. I asked for some chopped scallion and thinly sliced lemon as garnishes. No scallion was available but I did get a few lemon wedges to squeeze on my salmon. The salmon was the best piece - the others were just okay. The service was good with my water refilled without asking. It was clean and a variety of seating is offered, from sushi bar, to booths, to regular tables. Multiple TVs were showing sports as well. They have an extensive menu with sushi and ramen as features, but plenty of other options to appeal to many tastes or preferences. I will return to try some of their house rolls and ramen.

It is finally cold enough for me to enjoy Ramen again. My friend eats it year-round however I tend to only want it when it's cold. I got here a little early for our dinner plans so I got a sushi roll. This came out very quick and was very yummy. I do feel they're a little overpriced for their sushi rolls however, they do give you a large portion of food. This in my opinion is still the best Ramen in town. Also, the server was very on top of keeping my water refilled, which can be challenging because I drink a lot of water so good for her.

I got introduced to basic Asian food in high school around 2010 & pretty much stuck to chicken fried rice. I've grown to like ramen, pad thai and pho but would only try sushi every now & again. People have tried to introduce it to me but it's never been my thing. But on Friday, July 25th, I decided to take a swing. After a full day of swimming, I wanted to see for myself and invited my best friend out to an early dinner. Could summer and sushi go together? Let's find out! I arrived to the restaurant at 5pm and waited for my friend. We entered the restaurant around 5:20pm. There's no host upon entry, it's all self-seating with only tables and booths, and maybe a bar (couldn't tell if it was a legitimate option or not). We sat in a booth on the north by the windows. The appeal was simple but within theme: black tables & chairs, the chimney was converted into a shrine filled with Japanese artistry and an assortment of plants for decoration. There weren't too many guests in the restaurant at the time and our server arrived promptly. My friend asked for a margarita (at a Japanese restaurant?) but he pointed us to the drink menu which had beer and Japanese alcohol so he brought back water as we browsed the overwhelmingly comprehensive menu. Their list of offerings spans 12 pages and includes sushi, ramen, poke bowls, fried rice, curry, drinks and dessert. I hadn't eaten anything all day and thought about ordering the tempura as an appetizer but, since my friend is vegetarian, ended up getting the calamari. Now the hard part, which entrée will I order? The calamari came out in what seemed like no time at all. Given the robust menu, I decided to ask the server what he'd suggest. The menu was opened on the sushi page and, assuming I was in to sushi, he recommended the Dragon Roll, the Samurai Roll or the Jungle Roll. I explained my general reluctance with sushi but gave him my trust and ordered the Fire Dragon Roll. She ordered the California Roll and Vegetarian Japanese Fried Rice. We chatted it up for 8-10mins as I had the calamari, which was decent and presented well but for $13? Our food came out shortly after. It had a wonderful presentation! The Fire Dragon Roll was lined on an elongated plate, vibrating with colors and a serving of ginger & wasabi on the end. My reluctance was immediately wiped away. Even her fried rice looked elevated. I dug right in. It was amazing! I don't eat sushi often so I can't compare or give a point of reference but it was great. The sauces weren't spicy at all and complimented the meal well. Our server returned and was shocked that I ate more than half of the roll before he came back. I couldn't get enough. Coming from someone who doesn't usually consume sushi in any of it's forms, I'll say how pleasantly surprised I was how enjoyable the experience was. It was $60 for 2 appetizers and 2 entrées, very reasonable. After seeing all the ramen that came out, I was almost disappointed that I didn't order ramen after realizing that it's their signature dish. Otherwise, I thank our server who invited me to step outside my comfort zone and my best friend who supported me as I took this leap. I'll be returning here for next occasion for sure!

We had a fire dragon roll and the stuffed jalapeño appetizers. Everything was amazing. I hope this place can pull it off in this very unlucky restaurant location by looking at the reviews. I think that might be able to do it.

I have to admit, I have found my Sushi spot in Tulsa. But, we wanted to see what we were missing with new openings. Oishi is definitely one of the best Sushi spots in Tulsa. The ingredients were fresh, the rolls were tight, and the Service was excellent. If you order food, be careful of the spice. They offer 1-5, but a 1 on the Pad Thai seemed a bit extreme. I can not imagine what a 3 would be, let alone a 5. I have been eating spicy food my entire life, and life did not begin in Oklahoma. Don't get me wrong, I finished it, but it was unexpectedly spicy. The atmosphere was very adult, quiet, low conversations, which we loved. Oishi may not be our Top-Spot for Sushi and Asian Foods but, we will be back to try other Rolls and Dishes.

While in the area during lunchtime, we stopped in for some sushi and ramen. What a great little local spot! We were able to choose our table and then were immediately greeted by a server. I saw they had thai tea so I had to have that. My hubs had water. We ordered two sushi rolls and a ramen to share. Everything was so fresh and tasty! Can't wait to return!

Visited Oishi Sushi while in town for business! I wasn't sure what to expect getting Sushi in Tulsa, but I was NOT disappointed! Food and service were excellent. The Great - Aside from the best house made hot chilioil... the Ramen was so good. The service was also excellent along with the speed. The Good - The sushi was really enjoyable and great presentation! The Bad - NA The Ugly - NA I really liked this spot. I will visit them again next time I'm in the area!

Too Expensive, especially in Oklahoma. Also a better quality of sushi is needed. The cleanliness was ok.

Then I found Jinya Ramen. The Tonkotsu Black came out looking like a supermodel. The pork chashu was cooked so perfectly it practically melted in my mouth. The noodles had me one bite away from checking flights to Tokyo. If nostalgia had a texture, it would be those noodles. The egg? Soft boiled perfection. That beautiful jammy center deserved its own spotlight and possibly a small round of applause. I also ordered the pork gyoza, and whoever pan-fried those deserves a raise immediately. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside--basically what every dumpling dreams of becoming. My only tiny complaint: you've got to season your own broth a little. But honestly, compared to some of the so-called "Japanese ramen" spots I've tried in the U.S., this place is five stars and then some. The service was fast, attentive, and genuinely caring--it felt authentic, not forced. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated, spotless, and had the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay for a while.

It is almost as good as Japan's so I was fairly impressed. The tonkotsu ramen was good although I didn't think the bowl had enough broth. No random American fillers so love that. The chicken karaage was fine. I don't think I would get that again. The matcha tiramisu was divineeee though. Highly recommend getting that. I do wish it was slightly cheaper and closer to south tulsa. The tables could be cleaner too. Anyway, Jinya is a good spot and the vibe was on point.

There are claw machines at the front and back and sketchbooks with colored pencils on every table so you can draw while waiting for your food. The service is friendly - you order at the front counter and get a buzzer that buzzes when your food is ready at the pickup counter. The boba drinks are good. They have a decent selection of milk teas and fruit drinks as well as toppings. The boba pearls are done right, freshly made so they are soft and chewy like they're supposed to be. Once I ordered popping boba on accident (honey boba on the menu) thinking it was regular boba sweetened with honey and did not like it. They graciously switched it out with regular boba for me which I truly appreciated. My one recommendation would be to adjust the sweetness level if you prefer lighter drinks. The last time I visited I forgot to ask and it was a bit on the sweet side for me. I've also ordered poke and teriyaki bowls from them before and it was ok. The food was fine, it just didn't stand out to me. I usually come here for the drinks but would give the food another try given the good service and atmosphere. They have ramen, rice bowls, and appetizers like chicken karaage and kimchi fries. Overall I'd recommend Gung Ho as a solid hangout spot that's centrally located with good drinks and plenty of food options.
