I know it's St. Bernard parish, but this restaurant has good sushi and reasonably priced. I will definitely keep coming back.

As someone who loves Little Tokyo, I'm kind of comparing it to that. I got the Metairie Roll, Chocolate City Roll, and chicken fried rice. Everything we got was comparable in quality and tasted good. Nothing was off. The rice was amazing. Each item was even $2 cheaper than it is at Little Tokyo. If you're still going to Umi, you're making the wrong moves. We were one of the only people there, and I feel like we either got really lucky, or no one knows how good this place is. Stop going to Umi and try this place instead! read more

I feel like the sushi here is the poorest gray sushi. You can get the staff medical care less when you walk in because they barely speak. Place needs a good clean is so dark. I guess it's so you can't see the mediocre food. read more

Just don't!!!!!! I just went, and waited to be seated, and nothing so I assumed it was a just seat your self type a deal! Because the two waitresses just zoomed past me without speaking, smiling, head nod nothing! So I waited at the table for about ten minutes, noticed another couple come in they get seated and are given menus(oh I was never given a menu) so at that point I decided that was my cue to go ahead a leave. So if you'd like horrible service and to be ignored go ahead and try it! I think the waitresses were beefing! Food is good BUT the service sucks! There is only 1 waitress that handles everyone who is dining in LoL!!! And trust me the waitress makes sure you know it! If she forgets something or ask for anything like a refill she lets you know "well, I'm the only waitress" How rude and unprofessional! The sushi is pretty good here, but not good enough to deal with the awful service I experienced. The waitress/manager did not enter my takeout order correctly, and I didn't realize it until I got home that one of my rolls was not correct. I called to let them know that I am allergic to the roll they gave me and they said I would have to pay for a new one. The manager became rude very quickly and said that it wasn't her problem, so I asked to speak with her manager. A nicer man came on the phone and after some persuading, finally agreed to replace the roll at no cost. He said that they could only do this once because he would lose money if they did this everytime (how often do they mess up orders?), and I had to explain to him that I would lose money because I simply can't eat food I'm allergic to. I understand trying to stick up for your employees, but at what point do you stick up for your loyal, repeat customers too? Doesn't end there. When I arrived at the restaurant to exchange my roll for the correct one, the manager rolled her eyes at me and said, "Is this the roll?". Then she headed to the back of the restaurant. While waiting for my new roll, she was complaining about me to her coworkers quite loudly. I've never felt so uncomfortable. Not once did anyone apologize to me for the inconvenience or the way I was treated. I highly recommend enhancing the customer service training for your staff. read more

Came here with a friend to check this new-ish sushi spot out for lunch. This building is well isolated with a huge parking lot. The restaurant's decor was really nice and service was prompt. The menu was huge and took us a while to choose what we wanted. We ended up ordering the Broccoli Salad, Baked Salmon, Spider Roll, Heart Attack Roll, and the Sexiest Man Roll. The Broccoli Salad came first and I was expecting a salad, but it was just boiled broccoli with some horseradish mayo sauce on the side. Nothing screamed salad about the dish, but it was strangely addicting. The Baked Salmon came right after and it looked good, I never seen anyone make it this way. They were a bit skimpy on the salmon, but gave two mounds of snowcrab that really filled us up. It was indeed tasty and hot! The rolls came out right on time, when we had finished the appetizers. The Spider Roll was your standard Spider Roll, nothing much to say about it. The Heart Attack Roll was fried a bit too long, because the spicy tuna was fully cooked. I had to check the menu to see what it was supposed to be. A flash fry would have been better, but it was still good! Last, but not least, the Sexiest Man Roll was our favorite roll we ordered. There was a perfect balance of ingredients put together and it tasted so fresh! It was visually appealing and colorful, I would definitely order it again! We were pretty satisfied and had some leftovers to take home. Overall, a nice addition to the restaurants in Chalmette. This place is fairly new and I am impressed with what they had to offer. Their menu was huge, so I will be sure to try their lunch, dinner, or hibachi choices next time. The service was attentive and the food was nice and filling. read more

Disappointed. My family and I walked in at about 8:15pm, and were "greeted" with a disgusted look and a "are y'all picking up?" When we established we were a party of 9, any chance of us having good service went out the window. Someone in our party spilled a water, we were told to wait because they "had a lot of customers before us." Granted, the place had a few customers and another large party, but they were far from slammed. We got napkins out of the restroom and cleaned the bigger puddles up until a rag was passed haphazardly around and still not cleaned completely. Accidents happen, and we were willing to clean it up ourselves if we were given a rag or even napkins to begin with. No one at our table received refills, a smile, or a friendly attitude. We weren't even offered a refill on the water that was spilled. I even made sure to check online and Facebook for business hours and confirmed that they closed at 10:30pm. We did not feel welcomed, we felt rushed and like we were a bother with our patronage. I can assure you we will not be dining in here anymore. The whole experience was very uncomfortable.The best thing I can say that the food was good, the only reason for the additional star. May consider takeout in the future, since it seems that's what these "waitresses" prefer. read more

After paying more for two orders of a cucumber role than was originally quoted, we were shorted and received 12 out of 16 of our roles. Not to mention they were inflexible when it came to ordering a hibachi that comes with white rice, soup, and salad, we were not able to substitute all three of those things for veggies, but if you order the dinner you could with no extra charge. Besides the extra veggies is super small portioned to even be picky about substituting. The workers have an attitude to top it off. Poor service and small portions in relation to price. read more

Would give 1 star but I can't. The service sucks, the waitress was rude and didn't talk to us at all. My drink was empty the entire time I ate here. We also felt like we were being rushed. We ended up getting desert and the fried ice cream is disgusting. They froze the ice cream to the point it was almost dry and the fry around it was so thick. We're not to type of people to complain but this was bad, after we told them we sat there for 30 minutes waiting for them to come talk to us about it or give us a refund but they never did. Terrible service. Called my order in and it was ready behind the bar when I got there . Sat at the bar to be waited on as directed by the sushi chef. Despite the two waitresses going behind the bar multiple times to ring up tickets I waited over 20 minutes before I was even acknowledged. Even that was only AFTER the manager told one of them to give me my order (to which she responded with an eye roll and the equivalent of a temper tantrum from a 3 year old...."ugh! Seriously ?! Ive been so busy!" - mind you she was sharing a total of 6 tables with another waitress who appeared just as miserable). She stomped over, ran my card, threw it and the receipt down and then stormed off without saying a word. I know staffing is an issue everywhere but from reading the other reviews it seems as if this has been an issue since they opened and the owners obviously don't care to make a change. These people obviously don't want to work and are seriously affecting your business. read more

Tried this place on a whim after visiting with friends late in Chalmette and have to say we were pleasantly surprised! We ordered the gyoza appetizer (which was really good - prob the best ones we've had in general), the Jamaican Roll, & the Asakusa Roll. Both rolls were great, filling but not heavy.
