The rice is perfect, the asparagus cooked, crisp and cool, and the crab very fresh. I am a sucker for octopus, and the octopus here is on point - I don't know how they get it so delectably fresh. It is served cool on a foundation of rice and a seaweed ribbon. The dynamite roll is excellent. The tuna, the yellowtail, the whitefish... are a fresh and tender trio. Overall, my husband and I love this restaurant. The only issue that we have is with one of the managers. Every time he has delivered our soup he puts his thumb in the soup grossing my husband out. I truly enjoy visiting Little Tokyo for lunch. The food is always fresh and delicious. Some of my favorites are the Utah and Mardi Gras rolls, their hibachi rices (ask for some yum yum and chili sauce), and the jalapeño poppers. Their special rolls are huge, like you need nothing else to eat with them if one is ordered. If you sit at the sushi bar during lunch, they give you a delicious salad, l need to remember to ask what the green noodles are in it. The service is always great, and the sushi chefs are always so nice and helpful. Great place to visit for large parties, but can be pretty loud in there. WHAT HAPPENED!!! Been going here for years, we actually drive from Slidell just to eat here. The soup was flavorless, the spicy tuna tasted like old fish and the nigiri was slimy and to be honest inedible. The tempura was under cooked and some of the vegetables were raw. I tried something new this time, a tuna steak. Really bad, very over cooked and dry. The service was non existent. Our meals came at least 5min apart, we had to go steal napkins from an empty table and i went to the bar to get my own take-away containers(thought my cat might enjoy the leftovers). The worst service I've ever experienced in my life. We come here quite a bit, the food and service have been great up until now. We ordered the drinks and food when the server first came to us. 10min later the others eating with me gotten their food except for me. I saw the server sitting down talking while my drink was sitting at the bar. The drink I ordered was sitting at the bar for 10min till I received it. 20min later I still haven't received my food. I told the server to not worry about my food and if I can have the check. I was waiting for my food For 30min. My server wasn't around so I saw two workers walking past and asked them to speak to a manage. One of them saying it in a rude way me telling to hold on a second. The other guy was the manager and was apologetic and gave a free sushi roll. The server then confronts me asking me if it was her service that was bad and I said overall it was bad! Nothing too special for this place. The ramen is not the worst we've had, but definitely not the best either. Their staff was very accommodating, so that's a plus. They have a half-open kitchen with a sushi bar, and they have more than 10 people working total for the kitchen, with majority of them working behind the sushi bar, so maybe we should have had some sushi instead? read more

Little Tokyo is good when there are events in the city. There are no major complaints just inconsistencies. I frequent this place quite a bit. They serve healthy portions. Would I recommended? Absolutely. Wouldn't recommend it when there appears to be a lull in city activity or during the middle of the week when business is slow. This review is not based on sushi alone. I've ordered sushi and it's been OK but their hibachi rice and veggies are excellent. If you are an advent sushi eater I suggest you approach this business with an open mind and give it some grace. The people/service is great minus the time a glass broke on the floor and shards of the glass popped me in the face and hair! It's worth a try just stay away from the bar area. Top choice for Japanese restaurant in the Metairie / Greater New Orleans area - a great value. A lot more quantity with similar quality compared to Shogun. The hamachi kama is tender, flavorful, and the 2-3 pieces are 50-100% more than what I'm used to at other places. Agedashi tofu is like 12-14 large size cubes, again it's like 50-100% more and one of our favorite dishes there. Nigiri was high quality, yellowtail was a standout and others were good too. I ordered a sprite for the little one and a Tokyo passion for myself...it came in a regular drinking glass so it was a nice size drink but I could see why they were so generous on an alcoholic beverage...it was a little on the weak side. Drank it down like juice... it had a great flavor nonetheless. From the Specials menu I ordered the Cajun roll which was a cooked roll filled with crawfish, salmon, and cream cheese. It was tasty, although I'm used to much better sushi presentation. It was a pretty big roll! Me and little boujee baby enjoyed it. Up next, Ramen...What I wanted to be the star of the show...but it was just at the show, no star. I love Ramen so I expected more. It was decent compared to what I consider awesome ramen. Walked in and was greeted immediately by the host. The restaurant had a large selection of food; my friend and I were having trouble finding what we wanted to eat. We had the steamed pork gyoza and it was delicious! I'm not sure what sauce they served with it but it went perfect with the gyoza. Disappointingly, the appetizer was the only thing we enjoyed here. The sushi tasted extremely off to us. The fish did not taste fresh and there was something weird about the rice. We also noticed there wasn't any seaweed in the sushi. The only thing that made the sushi taste better was getting an extra side of eel sauce (burning man) and sweet chili sauce (tropical). This restaurant is near the hot I'm staying in the Galleria area. We stopped in this evening for sushi. We sat at the bar to eat, and ordered some Saki which was hot and horrible. I looked around the bar, which had a lot of empty plastic plates and a lot of degenerate employees behind the bar. There were a lot of sketchy people there to eat. I told the waitress that I just received a call and had to leave unexpectedly. HAIR IN FOOD!!! I ordered a Funky Margarita roll from Little Tokyo today and I found a piece of hair in my food! It wasn't just laying on top of the roll, it was rolled into it because I wasn't able to see it or feel it until after I had taken a huge bite. While chewing I felt something weird and I said to myself, "I hope this isn't a piece of hair". As I began to pull the strand of hair out of my mouth it felt never ending because the strand was so long. After the strand broke, I ran to my bathroom to spit out the rest of the roll and I saw the remainder of the strand entangled with my partially eaten roll (pic attached). I was disgusted and I felt nauseous. I attempted to throw up several times following this discovery because I had already eaten a few pieces of the roll. I called the restaurant to report the hair in my food and the hostesses placed me on a brief hold to inform her supervisor of the incident. When I was taken off of hold I was asked if I would like to remake my order, which I declined. I noticed that I wasn't offered a refund, so I then requested a refund. I was placed on hold for the second time for the young lady to speak with her supervisor. When she returned to the phone she informed me that her supervisor requested that I bring the food in to prove that it had hair in it to get a refund. A little taken back, I asked her if they needed to see the hair in the partially chewed food in order for me to get a refund and she responded yes. (I'm sure that Little Tokyo doesn't receive many complaints about hair in the food, so if someone calls to complain about something like that there shouldn't be much second guessing. Also, the supervisor didn't need my card to give me a refund and could have done it over the phone). I am so disturbed and disgusted by this situation. Not only was I chomping on some rando's piece of hair, but I didn't like the response of the restaurant given that I am a regular customer. After this situation today, I won't be visiting this restaurant anymore and I am now hesitant to visit any other restaurants. I have always loved this place, the quality, and its huge portions but the last time I went the service fell a little short for me. The food was exceptional, fresh, and reasonably priced as always, but every time we ordered something, it was an issue with our waitress. When we would order, the waitress was just not familiar with the menu and had no idea what we were talking about (as if the item we ordered wasn't on the menu when it clearly was). This became an issue when a few of our items came out wrong and it was incredibly awkward to correct her when we had repeated the order back to her a few times. We had even pointed out the menu items to her when she seemed confused to show her that they were in fact on the menu. This is the only time this has happened to us at this restaurant but it was a little off putting. I'll be back for the great food and prices, but I'm hoping there is less of a mix up the next time we go so we could have a better overall experience. read more
