Uchi Sushi remains my favorite sushi restaurant. I've tried others but I always find myself back at Uchi time and time again. Johnny has made Uchi special and the food remains absolutely fantastic. Anytime I'm craving sushi I only want to eat here. I have a few favorite rolls, but honestly, you cannot go wrong with any roll or dish you order. A few of my go-to rolls are the Six Brothers Roll, the Utah Roll, the Cucumber Sashimi Roll, and any of the Sashimi choices. The restaurant is open for lunch every day and open late. If you go during peak hours it can be a little difficult to park, but please don't let that dissuade you from going. The food is worth the wait for a parking spot! read more

This place has been a sushi bar under different names for several years. My friend and I are sushi buddies and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately I was not really impressed with the sushi rolls. It was mostly imitation crab which I'm not a big fan of. However, I had yellowtail sashimi that was just excellent! The sushi chef was very attentive. The waitress was well let's just say it took a bit of effort to get her attention for me to get lemons for my tea enough said, and she brought us a food. We were happy if I did return to the restaurant, I think I would just order sashimi, that being said there's so many sushi restaurants in New Orleans that are excellent. I stumbled upon this place completely by chance, but I'm damn glad I did. It's easy to miss, but well worth the stop. They make all sushi to order, and you can sit at the sushi bar and watch them make it. The ingredients are fresh. The menu has a solid variety of rolls, and you can make modifications to the rolls (e.g., no rice, sauce on the side, etc.). The sushi chefs are friendly and engaging but not overbearing. Their hibachi is also very good and made fresh to order. Good flavor, not overly salty, and good portion sizes for the cost. They have ample seating and the tables aren't crowded too closely together, making for a comfortable, laid back dining experience. One of the sushi chefs mentioned that they're opening a location in Baton Rouge on Bluebonnet soon. read more

Uchi Sushi has incredible sushi! Everything looked great, but we ended up getting the Osaka Roll, the Super Bowl roll, and the Special Lobster Roll. Each roll was amazing and everything was extremely fresh. It seemed as if they were very understaffed with the amount of to-go orders and people in the restaurant. We had to ask for things a few times before it was brought over and it took about ten to twenty minutes to get anything you asked for (a drink menu, spicy Mayo, the drink you ordered). As my friend and I were eating, the waiter started CLIPPING HIS NAILS at the bar right in front of us. In my opinion that's totally disgusting and so unhygienic for a restaurant industry. This place is a hidden gem! To start off, I definitely recommend the baked salmon appetizer! Order it as soon as you get there because takes between 25-30 minutes to prepare it. It's full of snow crab that's wrapped in delicious salmon and topped with eel sauce! I also recommend the New Zealand roll! It's my favorite! It's full of crispy salmon and then topped with more salmon! If you are looking for something without salmon, try the chocolate city which is topped with slices of avocado and tuna. They menu at this place is massive so it's easy for everyone to find something that they will like. The one downfall of this restaurant is the actual inside of the restaurant. Come here for good, but not great sushi. They have a ton of options, but I ordered the Chocolate City roll. Which seemed to be the table's favorite. It has spicy tuna, snow crab, tempura flour, and seared tuna with black pepper on top. Eel sauce, smelt roe, and green onion (from their menu). It made for a really nice looking roll, and it tasted really good! I would definitely come back and have the same roll. Also if you're not big on crowds, Uchi was way less busy than Shogun on a Friday night. So this is a good location if you don't want a long wait, and if you don't want to be around too many people. One thing that was a bit concerning was how close they seated their guests though. We had to request 2x to be seated at a further table. They seemed a bit hesitant to have us so far, and also hesitant to give us a bigger table... which I knew we needed because we were going to order so much... so that was weird. But overall a decent experience, and I would come back. Again it was good, just not great. read more

This is one of my favorite lunchtime sushi places because it's close to my work and they have fresh ingredients and interesting sushi combinations. Their specialty rolls are very large, much bigger than most places and are filled with fish and proteins with very little rice. No skimping here! This isn't the prettiest place but the staff is efficient and the food is great. The New Zealand salmon is something special and worth a try. Also, the smoked salmon sushi is some of the best I've ever had, large, rich and lightly smoked. Really good! The chefs here have lots of unique rolls. This is a favorite place. read more
