The atmosphere here is unique. The room we were seated in had a live tree as a tall centerpiece. We were seated quickly when we arrived for our reservation. Our drink order got taken right away and the drinks came promptly. We tried the OG Fungo stuffed mushroom app and the duck tenders. The stuffed mushrooms were great and I'd order again. The duck tenders were forgettable. I ordered the pretzel pork schnitzel and my brother in law got the Thai steak. Portions were large and the entrees came out in a timely manner. I am afraid to go back to what used to be one of my favorite restaurants when prior owners called it the Redman and served great northern Wisconsin food. The new owners ruined the look that I loved and, to be fair, after it reopened so this review is somewhat dated, we made a mistake by going there. The service was awful, probably understaffed but it may still be awful now, the menu was very different and the items we tried were marginal. It was the OPPOSITE of a place of happiness. For their sake I hope it has improved but they are no longer needed up there. After they ruined the Redman, Clayton's 1881 and Sorella are now 2 of the best restaurants in that area and White Stag means I have 3 terrific places to eat, doubt that I will ever eat at AS again. read more

We always make reservations in advance as the summer months tend to be very busy. The owner is very nice. We have gone there at least once a month this summer. We go a little early and always start with a drink at the bar. The drinks are always great! We have sat in all of the different rooms. We like the patio room, it's a beautiful view. Although each room is great in its own way. The food is always very good. The servers are always nice and attentive. If you haven't been there, give it a try! read more

we have patronized this restaurant many times since it opened. we have a large family and brought in groups of family (15 people) We came in today without reservations because our internet was down, and we were greeted with hostility from the moment we stepped in to dine. We eventually were given two rolls without butter. When we asked for butter, they said you had no reservations but we'll get you butter. At that point we said we did not know it was a reservations only restaurant. This type of Northwoods hospitality has made us appreciate the business of the Chicago area and how friendly and accommodating they are all the more. If you want people to appreciate the beautiful area and patronize your businesses, you ought to learn basic service courtesy . We work hard and go out to enjoy basic services. The prices you charge are not low. They should reflect good service and quality food. Terribly disappointed and do not anti part this facility will be open much longer. read more

We are part time self proclaimed food critics. Because I love to cook, we are hypercritical when we dine out. This was one of the best restaurant experiences we've had in 10 years as lifelong Northwoods locals. Beautiful atmosphere, great bartender Jake, fabulous server Audrey, and the chef outdid herself. Beautiful green salad on a chilled plate and scratch dressing, wonderful warm crusty dinner rolls, incredibly fresh walleye crusted with potato chips, garlic, and honey, served with gnocchi with roasted garlic. A gigantic sundae with exceptional quality vanilla ice cream, peaches, caramel, and toasted pecans. We came during a quiet period. That certainly boosted our experience. Went to check out Asana Suka for dinner one night while up spending the summer up at Black Oak Lake and we weren't disappointed! We started with the salmon poke and cocktails and then my wife got the Ahi Tuna while I got the Duck - all three were delicious and we accompanied them with cocktails and then a yummy Zinfandel! Jake and Emily have done a terrific job with the menu and the decor - and we love Mark, who recommended the wine pairings. A gem in North Woods. Located near the Wisconsin/ Michigan border on Hwy 45, you'll find the historic restaurant with new owners Jake & Emily ready to take great care of you and create and serve you fresh, made from scratch meals. We started with Crab Rangoon ala Asana Suka style...soft flaky pastry stuffed with lump crab and cream cheese, we loved them. For dinner, she had the Milanese Crusted Walleye served with golden mashed potatoes and the house salad served with a refreshing blueberry dressing. The crispy panko encrusted fillet was large and prepared to perfection - possibly the best walleye in the Northwoods. I tried the glazed Norwegian salmon - delicious, however the triple citrus glaze was slightly over done for my taste. The salmon was excellent though. Our server Andrea was attentive and happy to serve. Jake was very communicative, while scheduling our reservation, even though this was a slower time of the year. A glass of 7 Falls and a classic "Wisconsin in a glass", Brandy Old Fashioned were perfect compliments to a delicious and memorable experience at Asana Suka. We come to the northwoods a few times a year. My husband has been coming to this please since he was a kid. We were excited to come back, knowing that new owners took over. We also understand that everything is slower up here than is it by our house. Driving up the place was packed! We were excited that we only had a 30 min wait. We ordered drinks at the bar, which was busy. But we wear served in a timely manner. Once we sat down, the waitress came over and said she's be right with us. 15 min later, she finally came over. Took our drink order. 15 min later she came back and said that our drinks weren't made yet and our apps would be right up. We had to ask for bread three times. Finally John, the bus boy who is here as a foreign exchange worker for the summer, came over with it! He's great! We got our appetizers and she brought the correct one and one we were asking questions about and didn't order. She took the one back that we didn't order and they served it 5 min later to another table! From the time we ordered we waited 30 min for salad, never seeing our waitress once. We had to go to the bar to get another drink. Which took 20 min. Time management in this place has been forgotten. They have no concept of good service. The lady was very nice, but couldn't magnate three tables, all at different stages of their meal, at the same time. Meanwhile, John was great again! Cleaning our table and getting us new silverware for the food that we have now waited over 45 min for. The only reason this place is getting two stars is because of the food. The filet was actually melt in your mouth. The Ribeyes were good, the salmon was amazing. I just wish that they would train their servers and bartenders, because the food was actually very good. There are few places I continue to crave after I have been there once or twice. This is a place I crave. It used to be very old School Supper Club style. Recently a new owner bought it and remodeled. It is so beautiful inside. He kept the gorgeous classic Northwoods nostalgic feel while making it more Modern. The dish I crave is their macadamia but crusted chicken. It's to die for. My family also loves the broasted chicken. We love going here and having cocktails and eating at the bar. Our favorite bartenders are Stephanie and Pauline. We have so much fun when we go here. Oh my gosh, this place is just fantastic. Have been going to Redman for 10+ years and things have really taken a turn for the better. The new owners have done an amazing job and updating the interior, exterior, and menu. The biggest issue (as with every place in the northwoods, unfortunately) is that there isn't enough staff to keep up with the demand. Every place up here has an ad out for help wanted - it's just not available up here, unfortunately. However, I'm ok with waiting for food because the food is excellent. The prices seem comparable to most places with this quality of food - plus, I'd rather pay for a quality meal than save a few bucks to get more, just "ok" food. Can't believe people complain that the menu has changed so things (with premium ingredients) cost a bit more - isn't that how it is at any good restaurant? And who wouldn't want a nicer restaurant in the area? Think of it as the difference of going to a nice Italian restaurant for a pasta dish or Olive Garden's never ending pasta bowl. Not getting soup or salad depending on what you order isn't a big deal - the portions are generous enough to fill you up. The fish fry is excellent - surpasses the other places I've had it at recently (to include Bent's, the Chanticleer, and 12 Pines) and is a steal at $13. The macadamia nut chicken is delicious, and others I've eaten with have raved about the ribs and the Korean short ribs. And I'm from Chicago and was treated as nicely as anyone else...but maybe that's just because you reap what you sow? read more

Good cheesecake. We called ahead to find out they don't take reservations. Upon arriving we were told there would be a 30 minute wait, up North that's normal however usually faster bar service. It took nearly 20-25 minutes to get a drink with less then 10 people at the bar. Dinner had great flavor however my short ribs were only room temp despite the Boursin Chicken being very hot. I wasn't upset however the flavor of the short ribs was fantastic. The chicken had mostly a crust flavor which drowned out the rest of the meal. Our absolute favorite place in northern Wisconsin. Service is spot on with Stephanie and Cameron at the bar and Dotson as our waiter. Owner is hands on and always making sure you are happy. Always a pleasure to dine at the Red Man. Newly remodeled, but kept in the old style the Red Man is a homey atmosphere. The service is impeccable with friendly and attentive servers. Servers knowledge of the menu made it easy to pick just the right entree as well as an appetizer beforehand. From the fish, to the Filet to the Short Ribs; the food was prepared wonderfully and just as requested. The broccoli that came with the meal was cooked just right instead of that overcooked mush you get elsewhere. Besides the server's constant attention, it's always pleasant when the owner passes through the dining room talking to patrons ensuring that their needs are met. We were there this past Friday night and it was a horrible experience. The service was horrible and they were not even busy. The bartender asked if we needed anything and we had already been waiting over 10 minutes and when we said yes, she said she would be back in a few minutes. The waitress never checked on us or brought us drinks we ordered and the food was not consistent or tasty. Jamaican salmon had no jerk sauce and was dry and overcooked. They were out of several entrees and had no soup. Overpriced for what we got and the service was ridiculous. Will never go back. read more

This restraunt has been undergoing a number of changes, and has new ownership. The new people have done a TREMENDOUS job in upgrading the entire facility - dark wood paneling, tin ceiling, GREAT AMBIANCE. We had dinner there the other night, and the service was AWESOME. Always attentive, never pushy. The menu us varied and the prices are extremely reasonable. I had the Barbecued Ribs (very tender, good flavor) while my wife had the Salmon - she said it was DELICIOUS. Our dining partners had the Fish Fry (excellent) and the small filet - meat was very good, however they use a pepper based rub - if you are not a pepper fan, ask for it without.
