I suffer from PTSD, I received this email after being triggered in one of their classes. This is NOT a place for people that are looking for an open accepting place to practice yoga. I've been practicing yoga since the 90s, I was continually redirected when I attempted to revert to a resting pose. It was quite obvious the principal of listening to your own body is NOT foremost at this practice. I recommend avoiding this center if you're looking for YOGA, especially if you have a disability. I started at this studio a few years ago and fell in love with it immediately. I had been taking classes at some of the other studios in Valpo and Chesterton and in health clubs and there is just no comparison to the instruction I've received at Asana Center. Dana is a total breath of fresh air. Her classes are fun and very challenging. She pushes you hard but is extremely nurturing at the same time. All of the students here were so welcoming me and all of the other newcomers I've seen. Everyone chats and its just a very encouraging atmosphere all in all. I've taken classes with Dani and Dannielle as well and they are both wonderful and very knowledgeable. I read the other yelp comments and was pretty surprised by a couple of them. I was actually in the class that Todd T was in and I thought it was a great class! I've never heard Dana "chastise" students or anything remotely close to that. Totally worth checking out! read more

I'm in the process of moving to Valpo from around Chicago, and I've been trying to become familiar with local businesses. As a fitness buff (and intermediate yoga student), I've read about Asana Yoga Center. The reviews seem positive, but I wanted to post one with my impressions. I'm a foodie, and by far the best restaurant I've found in Valpo is Bistro 157, located right below Asana Yoga Center. On a recent evening visit to Bistro, I was frankly surprised at the thunderous noise coming from upstairs. I'm not sure what type of class was being taught upstairs - it sounded more like jazzercise or country line dancing than anything remotely yogic - but it made my dining experience very unpleasant. As a result, I'll be looking elsewhere for a yoga class. I'm sad to hear that Bistro is closing at its current location, but I'm looking forward to Nicole Bissonnette and her staff relocating somewhere with better ambiance. read more

I absolutely LOVE Asana Yoga Center. I only wish I could attend more frequently! I usually attend Marge's class on Tuesdays when I can, but have been to many of Dana's classes over the years & enjoy those as well. I am very much a beginner in my skill level, but I can honestly say the instructors are phenomenal & very attentive! What a wealth of knowledge!! Through the use of yoga props, they help you get into poses you might otherwise not be able to do. They also tailor the classes to each person's individual needs; for example, if you have a bad knee, or a bad shoulder, they will give you an alternate (but similar) pose as the rest of the class. The owner, Dana, has the most infectious laugh & personality...she never fails to infuse humor into each class, which I love! If you are nervous to try out a class, don't be!! I have been practicing yoga for over 10 years, however I live about 25 miles from Asana Yoga, so I am unable to practice there on a regular basis. BUT WHEN I DO GET TO VISIT, it is one of the most genuine, love-filled, authentic yoga studios I have ever been to. Dana has beautiful energy (as does her husband) and they run the center with style, grace and positivity. I've been practicing yoga since 1988, so I've tried many forms of yoga and different studios. Asana is my favorite studio ever. This is real yoga with real down to earth people. Instructors are experienced, talented, and educated in working with people with injuries and or limitations, as well as advanced students and beginners. Dana is the nicest, funnest, most skilled teacher in the area. Her studio is top notch and very clean. All you have to do is show up and she provides everything else, your mat, blankets, etc...All the other students are very nice and fun.
