Despite having valid PPO insurance that we specifically pay for to ensure our children receive quality dental care, we were told we cannot use it because of the "birthday rule"--an arbitrary hierarchy based on which parent's birth month comes first in the calendar year. While the office claims this is an "insurance law," the real issue is that Kids First Pediatric Dentistry Chandler chooses not to contract with HMO plans. That's a business decision, not a legal requirement, and it's their right to make that choice. However, the result is that families like ours--who deliberately maintain PPO coverage--are turned away or forced to pay out-of-pocket unnecessarily. When we expressed frustration, we were simply told to find a provider who accepts both HMO and PPO plans "to avoid unnecessary charges." That's exactly what we're doing--finding a new dentist who will actually work with the insurance we pay for. A pediatric dental practice should prioritize care and accessibility for children, not create barriers through rigid business policies. We expected better, especially given the reputation this office has. Unfortunately, policy rigidity won out over patient care. We're transferring our children's care elsewhere and would caution other families to verify their specific insurance situation before scheduling appointments.

I mean she literally asks me when is her next appointment and anytime we are in the area she'll point out and proudly say this place is her dentisit. I will admit when Dr Lee said she was leaving I was devastated and worried who will replace her. I initially met Dr Mindi, who replaced Dr Lee, at a event at my kids school. I was impressed that the doctor was there because normally at these events I expect to see other representatives of the business not the doctor. I think this speaks volumes. She was immediately really kind and welcoming which made me feel much better about our upcoming visit. The next visit felt just like it normally would even when Dr Lee was there. All the office staff, assistants, etc were welcoming and kind- didnt miss a beat. I never felt any red flag. It felt like my kid is in good hands. Dr Mindi gives me the feeling that she is still concerned of my child's care and will answer any questions I would have. I had no issues at all. With that being said, the many recent negative reviews I've seen is absolutely not what I experienced and quiet surprising for me to read. I genuinely question what exactly happened. She told me at seven years of age it is legally required that x rays be taken for dental work by the AAPD... she also went on to say that if anybody else takes us on as a patient and doesn't require non medically necessary x rays then they are not ethical. This is completely despicable as this is not a legal requirement but a mere recommendation by the AAPD. Vile behavior. Like another poster noted, I'm sad that I witnessed a change in the staff also. While the staff, other than Dr Mindi were all very pleasant, it is a very different environment than when Dr Lee ran the place. None of the staff looked happy, truly disappointing experience.

Everyone who works here is friendly and understanding. Cooper at the front desk is so nice. How many times do you call an office and get annoyed with the receptionist? Not here!! Dr. Raya is very skilled and smart. We have had a couple challenges she has helped with. During one instance after hearing that we were in the hospital, she went out of her way to talk with us on a Sunday and proceeded to find an Anesthesiologist and then came in when the office was supposed to be closed! She got her staff to come in on their day off to help! Such an amazing office!! Dr Raya is our angel we needed. In addition to above, she does not add charges above and beyond the insurance. She is very fair. For those without insurance she even has a very reasonably priced plan I saw on her website at $240 for a whole year.
