My review is specifically re: the food. Im a seton employee and the food at Hays does seem to be the best out of this hospital, Dell Seton, and Ascension Seton. There are just more options, better snacks, and there was a day that the salmon even rivaled the salmon that's served at Dell children's on Wednesdays (which is some of the BEST quality and spiced salmon you'll find!!). Other things - there's plenty of parking and I like that the hospital is free standing and not too close to anything else. Makes it feel less cramped. The clinic spaces are nice too. read more

This is the worst hospital in the area. If you have time, go to Austin or New Braunfels. First off they dismiss medical emergencies. They don't send patients that are in need of ICU to the ICU until the last minute. And don't get me started on the palliative care doctor. She doesn't listen to your decision and continues to push her opinion, regardless if you're educated yourself. Overall they need to do so much better. I wouldn't go to this hospital. read more

I was admitted after vomiting black tarry substance as a result of chemotherapy. Most of the experience was fine. The emergency room staff were top notch, but unfortunately there was one nurse from the 4th floor named Patricia who stuck her nose in my business and called the police when I said "Fuck". They held food and liquids from me due to a G.I. scope procedure. The problem was they never came to get me the first day and I had to argue with the Charge nurse for ice water. The 2nd day the charge nurse told me I was on the schedule for 10:30 am, nut they would most likely get me at 9:30 for labs. At 11 am I started getting angry due to being hungry and dry mouthed. This is when Patricia stuck her skank nose in my business when I asked how long does it take to get a glass of fucking ice water? Telling me I couldn't have any until talking to the doctor. I asked how long that was going to take and in a pissy response told me give him two minutes he's on another floor! Then she went to send the police to my room. Great way to provide care to cancer patients who already have trouble eating. I've lost 45 pounds in a month so far and can't be denied food when I need to eat. The doctor never showed up and I was told by the G.I. nurse that scopes aren't scheduled until after 3 pm. They lied to my face so I had no choice but to check myself out of the hospital and seek treatment at a better hospital called Baylor Scott and White where they actually care. Top nurses at Seton 4th floor were Grace, Aurora, Gilbert, Lori (mama bear) and Raynel. Patricia is useless and has absolutely no bedside manner. My daughter was in a terrible accident, fortunately , this is a trauma hospital and she was brought to emergency had major surgery & transfered to the 5th floor, I flew in immediately from another state, I'm so glad I did. I've been with her 24/7 let me tell you about the nurses & the staff They are great,fantastic so compassionate so caring the doctors are wonderful they Saved, my daughter's life I am grateful to them Thank you so much for the wonderful care you have been providing in these type of emergency. ER-Didn't offer a wheelchair to someone who wrote dizzy on their information sheet. Wasn't told or provided documentation of my vitals or test results. The doctor that spoke to me didn't really seem like he wanted to be there. I was sick and felt like I wasn't being taken care of, just trying to get me out of there as soon as possible. I got asked if anyone had come back with my results because my discharge papers were already ready, they hadn't spoken to me about my results. Won't be going back. read more

When a person has a medical emergency, it's important to know your options in advance to curb any potential issues. Unfortunately, I didn't think I'd need to visit the ER however I'm happy to say I was tended to in an expedient manner. The Ascension Seton Hays facility is conveniently located in Kyle right off of I-35 close to Walmart with plenty of parking. I checked in at 6am on a Sunday so I can confess that my wait wasn't long at all. The hospital is clean and they seemed to have everything they needed at hand. As for the nursing staff I found them to be quick, experienced and good spirited. I had to have a couple needles and I'm happy to say they didn't miss a vein! All of the staff were quick to address my needs in terms of medication, blankets and information so I never felt neglected. At the end of my stay, I even filled out thank you forms for everyone that took care of me. Overall, the staff were professional so I can lay to rest any concerns about the nurses. As for the doctors they were quick and thorough in terms of treating me. The one slow issue I had was the turn around time on imaging to come back. The process was, discuss your situation with the doctor, they staff would schedule and take the imaging, the offsite doctor would review, pass on the findings to the hospital doctors then they'd address the patient. It can take a very long time, I suppose it depends on the nature of the severity. That said, the doctors kept me informed and comfortable so I have nothing bad to say about that issue. Overall, if you find yourself needing to go to the ER, Ascension should be able to adequately take care of all your needs. The facilities are clean, the staff are fast and comforting and it seemed everyone was there to assist any way they could. I recommend using this hospital if the situation should arise. read more

I recently spent three days at Seton. I want to call out and thank a woman named Pam who sat in my room with me and talked with me. She was so kind, and so cool, and I can't thank her enough for being so emotionally generous in my moments of no dignity and discomfort. I called and tried to find out her last name so I could at least write a thank you note, but I can't get anyone on the phone. Pam, if you ever happen to see this, you are a wonderful human being and I'll remember you forever. It has taken me about a week to review, after the experience I had. I needed time to heal after surgery, and not from your team. I was send to the ER in an ambulance from San Antonio. I as told it was urgent and could not find an orthopedic hand surgeon in San Antonio. When I arrives at the ER, I was put in an exam room and the 2 day nurses treated me really well. I was later visited by the plastics doctor to take pictures of my hand for the surgeon so they could decide what the next steps would be. I was NOT seen by the surgeon he evaluated me through pictures. I was given IV antibiotics and pain meds, layer on we discussed the possibility of bed side procedure or possibly surgery in operating room. I couldn't eat or drink anything until we figured it out. I later was visited by the nurse that did all my intake and told me we were going to soak it in benzadine to soften the finger to make it easier to open for surgery (there was an infection where the opening of a cyst between my knuckles were) after that she had me wash my hands and get back in the bed, where she looked at it and said there was as stuff coming out of it, so she squeezed it, That was PAINFUL! She then stated "I won't do that again" I was later given an X-ray, and blood drawn because it looked like we were having surgery. The next morning around 8:00am the plastics doctor comes in, tells me we will be operating around 12noon, my wife, decides to drive home to take care of the dog, and ash up and come back before surgery starts. We live in San Antonio so the drive was 2 hours from where we live. She leaves and 2 hours later the New nurse comes in and tells me that the surgery has been cancelled , I'm going home and now I have a fracture, WHAT!?! I didn't have one when I was brought from Mission Baptist, they took X-rays, did this happen when the nurse forcefully squeeze my swollen infected finger?? I called my wife told her to come back , she had just made it into San Antonio. We were upset I asked to speak to the surgeon to clarify this whole mess. Then the nurse apologizes 2 hours later when my wife gets back to tell me he "jumped the gun" he had not confirmed no surgery, and if I was definitely going home, just assumed. At this point I'm crying, in pain and so upset. The surgeon finally comes in and tells me they can't do it because of the fracture , I asked to speak to the director or someone In Charge of the hospital, which no one came nor called me. We were discharged , drove home in pain on a Saturday with not a single doctor to help me. Monday I was able to see an orthopedic hand specialist and 2 days later had my surgery. I was also told that the fracture should not have been a factor on why surgery couldn't be performed: now I'll just wait for all hospital bills, ambulance bills, doctors bills that could have been avoided if this hospital and the hospital before would have cared about the absolute best care for their patients I would never recommend anyone going to this hospital. read more

This review is for the Maternity Services care given at Ascension Seton Hays on 02/01/2023-02/04/2023. My daughter (1st time mama), checked in on 02/01/2023 to be induced & since sharing is definitely caring, I thought I would share our experience & help give some FYI(s) & Helpful Tips for anyone else thinking about delivering their new baby at this hospital location. FYI(s): - After hours: If you check in after hrs, you will have to go through the emergency room dept to complete your check-in & the staff will then take you over to the maternity unit. The hospital doors do lock at 8pm & the only entrance to check in and out of the hospital will be the emergency room door. -Outside food delivery: If you're wanting to order food using Uber Eats, Grub Hub ect, you can do so just make a note for the driver to meet you at the entrance of the hospital closest to you (main, emergency, ect.). I also put a note for the driver to call my cell once they arrived. - No Nursery: Not sure if this is the norm for hospitals these days..but FYI, this hospital does not have a nursery to send your baby to. You will have to keep the baby in the room w/ you at all times. I have to give a shout out to the AWESOME Labor & Delivery Nurses, who took care of my daughter..Lexi & Grace! They both were so caring & helped my daughter have an amazing birthing experience! I really appreciated how Lexi always took the time to explain something to us & was always very thorough w/ answering any questions we had. She definitely helped put us both at ease especially since we were "birthing newbies". They both definitely helped my daughter avoid having to have a c-section w/ their experience of birthing positions to try out (hospital did have peanut birthing ball to use) to help get her body ready for birth & also being open to try birthing positions that they weren't so familiar w/..thank you Grace! Lastly, I wanted to share the helpful tip to bring any items w/ you that will help make your overnight hospital stay a little more comfortable. Here are a few items that we took w/ us: -Pillows from home & throw blankets -Essential oil diffuser w/ lavender oil (really helped create a calming effect in my daughters labor room & helped w/ me avoid getting a headache from the lack of sleep since I was the birthing partner) -Portable speaker to play brown noise to help drown out the hospital sounds & really helped us be able to close our eyes & get sleep when possible during the loooong birthing process. Playing brown noise (on Spotify) also helped create the calming ambiance we were going for in the birthing room. Even with a full waiting room, and beds in the halls, my care today was extraordinary. HOWEVER, while in the packed waiting room, a cleaning lady came through with a dust broom completely ignoring the comfort of the patients waiting there, shoving the broom under chairs people were sitting in, forcing us to lift our feet so she could get underneath us. I happened to be in there with extreme abdominal pain after getting my appendix removed 2 days ago, after she hit my foot with her broom and i did my best to lift my feet, it put me in tears from the pain. I tried to say something about how rude it was when my husband shushed me... she gave me a sucks to be you kind of look and then a while later she passed by me as i was waiting to be released, gave me a smirk and mockingly said hope ya feel better. We were very impressed with this emergency room visit. There were a dozen people in the main waiting seat, but we were seen faster than expected. The ER doctor, Dr O. Barak was very thorough and caring. I have to say the same for the nursing staff, kudos to ER Nurse Holly. I am very overwhelmed by the level of care from everyone we encountered. The ER was larger than it looks, we were placed in room #21. Nevertheless, the logistics must be commended. The blood work is done in a ER lab, so the walk (actually rolled in the bed) is just but steps away. We were never rushed, and all the care was extremely professional. read more

Went to ER and they confirmed I have a 24 CM ovarian tumor and all they did was send me home with zofran, which I had to ask for bc I've been so nauseous. The reason I went in was due to abdominal pain and bloating which they literally did nothing for. Marcus Perkins was my PA & just seemed in a rush and not the least bit concerned. Said if pain worsened to come back despite me being in 7/10 pain at time of ER visit and this huge tumor causing nausea and making me feel severely ill. Will not be back. I've been wanting to do this for quite some time but this past year I had a very major surgery on my neck. Removing my thyroid that basically had 8 cysts on it. You heard it right, 8 CYSTS!!!!!! In the process somehow I got pneumonia and I was fighting for my life. However, everyone was absolutely phenomenal in helping me recover so I can be at home with my family. The stay was nice and I felt at ease. Especially with every single nurse led by my favorite of course Jillian. Stayed by me and my girlfriends side everytime and my family's side to answer any questions they had and same with me. They quickly investigated what type it was. I was able to be reunited with my family and I couldn't be more happier and grateful. Does the CEO think that maybe some people don't want to see or be treated by arms and legs covered by ink and comic book characters? This place is just awful, no communication, no sense of urgency. I was waiting for X-rays for 2 hours, got out in a results pending room without having any tests actually done. The nurses and doctors are just talking about politics and their views on immigration. This was extremely unprofessional and unacceptable by the staff. F..k them and their views POS MF. On May 21, 2025, we arrived at the ER at 11:30am due to my sister experiencing severe back pain, heavy menstrual bleeding with large blood clots ( golf ball sized), extreme fatigue, weakness, and visible paleness. Despite the urgency of her symptoms, she was not seen until 2pm, which we believe was an excessive and dangerous delay, especially given her deteriorating condition. Once called back, she was placed in a hallway and waited an additional hour before receiving minimal medical attention. Despite her primary concern being significant blood loss, no pelvic exam, ultrasound or thorough diagnostic evaluation was conducted. Blood work was limited and her elevated blood sugar was noted. In response, an IV with insulin was administered, attached via a command strip to the wall, raising concerns about standard of care. She was discharged at 8:30pm still experiencing every symptom. The following morning, due to worsening symptoms, we took her to North Austin Medical Center. There she was immediately seen and advised to be admitted due to the risk of DKA, a life-threatening condition and was also found to have suffered from significant blood loss resulting in an emergency blood transfusion. Had we not sought further care, the outcome could have been fatal. We are deeply concerned about the lack of urgency , inadequate evaluation, and standard care provided during her initial ER visit. read more

The emergency room is an absolute nightmare. We waited 5 hours for a room with people on beds in the hallways. There was a patient who was PLEADING for someone to help him go to the bathroom for a good 2 hours while the nurses just stood there laughing. It sickened me! Our nurse, LIZ was horrible. She has zero personality and -0 bed side manners. She acted like she was on downers and depressed and hated her job. Also, she would never give us answers to ANY questions we asked. Her reply was "Well, that's the state of Healthcare in America" (????) She would mumble as she left the room and she KNEW my dad was very hard of hearing but she would never raise her voice above her depressed, low, monotone voice. The man can't breath but now he has to keep saying "huh"or trying to read lips?? She also did a horrible job putting an IV in his arm, even though his veins are protruding . When the nurses on level 3 saw how she had butchered his arm, even they commented saying that he was missing a flap of skin. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and STAY FAR AWAY!!! read more

I liked the Check-in system. You are handed a small clipboard with a few questions, and only later, all the many other forms are presented. I liked that, because I didn't have to wait long to go back to a treatment room and I was able to complete the paperwork on their portal. The nurses were professionally competent. The hospital beds and other equipment seemed like-new. The entire experience from me as a patient's viewpoint, was that it was a well-oiled machine. I was kept informed by the nurses and even the attending ER physician (Barack). He told me that they operate as a team and the goal is to see that I am taken care of. At one point, and in my presence, he called a specialized colleague to confer about one of my issues. We'll see if everything else is top notch after I receive the bill! :-). I did not want to be in for an extended inpatient hospital stay so I was discharged AMA, and here I sit, with no assistance to get home outside the hospital. I could not see staying inpatient for 3 extra days. I definitely know what the difference between caring and not. I was able to get an Uber ride (I live 3 miles from the hospital) after a previous visit. The administrator decided to let a patientt sit outside and fend for themself. This was an okay hospital. I took my 9 month old daughter to the ER, and the waiting room time wasn't the fastest but definitely quicker than ones I've been to before. That was not my problem. My problem was the doctor who attended to me, my wife and my daughter. He walked in looking annoyed and frustrated with no concernment in his voice, he talked and used a tone as if he hated his life and his job and then proceeded to do a check on my daughter but with what seemed like aggression and hurry. His final diagnosis was "ehh I don't know she might have a mild concussion but she's too young to have a CAT scan because she has a new brain". Post operative patient still in the bed ten days after surgery. Hugh bed sore and infection in his lungs results. Surgical removal of cancer. Post op care gets you instead. read more

2nd and last experience here. The staff is incompetent, rude, sits on their asses, while patients wait 8 hours plus to get discharged. I would give this place zero stars if I could. After meeting my child for less than 30 minutes, they think they know better than her own mother. They call Kyle PD on me because I make a comment about leaving without a medical discharge for my child. Kyle PD, who was just as incompetent as this ridiculous ER. DO NOT USE this hospital if you want to have a natural birth. My daughter had worked so hard to be ready for a natural birth. Went to the hospital as late as she could and as soon as she was put on a fetal monitor they told her she needed an emergency C-section! She was so distraught and kept asking for more time. Ended up feeling so pressured to do the surgery. The next day her doctor looked at the notes and ask her what went wrong and didn't see in the notes anything g to confirm that it was indeed an emergency. A side note. My daughter commented that amongst the people she knows having babies, emergency c-sections are the go to. They scare first time Mom's into going along with it so they can make more money. Seaton Hays Hospital is an amazing hospital, However, most of the staff, Nurses, Technicians, and Business are professional and caring. As for Most doctors, I think their heads grew to big upon becoming "a doctor "! The Doctors in the Emergency Room are rude and unprofessional. ER docs must have been born with no ears, no heart, and lack of empathy. Going to be seen for pain (neck, spine and shoulder/arm) apparently isn't serious enough to be concerned about. My orthopedic diagnosed ( with MRI's) me with several pinched nerves, bone spurs and spondylitis. I was in severe pain, wanting to cry. First visit with this dr. gave me Tylenol 3. Second visit with same dr. I was worse with widespread pain in neck and arm. I felt embarrassed coming in the 2nd time. Nurse assured me, come in anytime, no matter the number of times, if situations are worse. I haven't slept in 6 days. I called my Orthopedic and dr on call told me if my pain is causing sleep deprivation that long, I needed to go back to ER and check in and be admitted for pain control and sleep. I was getting sick, and disoriented. I did as orthopedic dr suggested. ER dr told me I've come in to many times and received a red flag in my folder and he refused to treat me. I had told him that on call orthopedic sent me. ER dr said "I am the dr here, it's my decision whether to admit you or not. You are not an Emergency, good luck and have a good night." I was humiliated and embarrassed. The ER dr also stated " I'm giving you no narcotics, there is nothing I can do for you. I was in/out within 30 minutes. Why is it, a patient is told to come back if worse, and when you do, you are treated like a villain seeking drugs? Doctors these days, just don't care, but only about their ego!!!KH. read more

Terrible ER service. Went on the advice of a Teladoc, "PLEASE GO TO EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT NOW AS YOU MAY HAVE A LIFE THREATENING ILLNESS. HAVE ANOTHER ADULT DRIVE YOU " waited 3 hours and when I asked how far down the list, Michael told there wasn't really a list. When I said that it had already been 3 hours, the gentleman at the desk snapped back with "some people wait 5 hours". That's how to treat people in pain. A simple "I'm sorry, we are going as fast as we can" would have been better and more compassionate. And take into account that someone would be scared if an ER doc told them to go. Pretend you're human. Drive 5 minutes away and was treated like a human. Will do everything in my power to not return. read more

Would give them 0 stars if I could. The front desk staff was fine. No complaints there. But the level of care provided by these doctors and nurses was absolutely abhorrent and the worst I have ever seen. Rest assured I'm providing no dramatics here. I'm married to someone with a disability; he uses a wheelchair and has chronic pain, but it is well-managed without narcotics or opioids. Unfortunately a new medication caused a reaction that left him in severe pain with joint inflammation, a low-grade fever, a migraine, nausea and shortness of breath. After a chest x-ray and labs were done, the doctor ordered the EXACT same medications that my husband takes at home, which obviously were not working or helping his pain in any way. When we asked about this, noting that his pain level had not gone down and his nausea was exactly the same too, we were essentially told to screw ourselves. The doctor told us that the labs had come back normal (which was a relief, but not ALL we needed) and that if the pain continued he should take Tylenol. They had also already administered Tylenol along with the medications he is usually on. We were clear and polite when informing them that the pain was not subsiding and neither was the nausea, but this seemed to make no difference to the doctor when we were discharged. We essentially spent 4 hours in this emergency room to be given the same things we had at home and told to leave. There was no plan for if the pain got worse or continued. There was not a moment of consideration for ANY more effective medications. We were condescended to and treated like drug-seekers, despite the fact that my husband is a working adult with no history of narcotic abuse. When I practically begged for them to offer SOME solution to literally just get us through the next day until the reaction (hopefully) subsides, I was blown off like I was an idiot. Thanks to Seton, I will be at home enraged and heartbroken watching my husband suffer something that he should NOT have to suffer. I cannot express how much I feel this emergency room and its physicians are a disgrace to medicine. Please, if you can avoid it, do not rely on Seton's ER. I probably wouldn't recommend the rest of their practice either, if it looks anything like this. read more

My mom stayed here for about one month. Her nurses and respiratory team were nothing less than an Outstanding 5 stars however, her doctor was equal to a zero stars rating, and was not willing to run any heart related tests or spend any time helping her. Whoever lady is working front door desk at 11:34 AM 100% needs to seek employment is a field NOT involving customer service. Beginning to take it personally that I'm not able to smoothly get back to recovery to pick up my son. She keeps sending over a security guard to talk to me. My son's mom left and I'm here to pick him up. It's pretty simple. If not simple, a kind explanation would be nice. Everyone else entering gets a temp check and have words like: "ma'am, sir, how are you?" I got "have a seat over there." I'm on a bench while my son is in recovery...alone. read more

IF I COULD RATE ZERO STARS I WOULD. George Ritz lll was the PA-C. that took "care" of me today. I am leaving him a negative review on behalf of his non-chalant behavior in the private room today. I went into the emergency room with excruciating pain in my right ribs, from GOD KNOWS WHAT. All he did was simply lift up my shirt press on my ribs and say i have a muscle strain or I did something to my ribs. When in all honesty i would know if i did something to them. Nobody just wakes up with sharp stabbing pains 2 days in a row, and goes to the emergency room in pain. the pain has lasted me on and off for about a week.. i seen my PC lastnight, which referred me to get a CT scan somewhere, unfortunately they couldnt get me in till mid october. So i chose to go to emergency room this morning. George Ritz looked at me and asked me what i wanted to do "do i want a shot to help the pain, or do i want to leave to go to the store to get motrin or aleve..." LIKE UM...... IM PAYING THOUSANDS OF $$$$$$$$ to be here.... i said im not leaving here without answers or ill just get the shot. the nurse comes in.. dont know her name, she was just as non chalant and mellow as him, until i broke down into tears demanding them to get me a CT SCAN, X-Ray.. and blood work done. it could of been my kidneys, my gallbladder, lungs, liver causing this pain.. AND YOU WANT TO TELL ME I STRAINED IT? HOW. ive been athlete all my life im sure id know if i was hurt. They then proceeded to do as i asked since i guess im the doctor now. I just want to know what was up with these people today? is it cause im young.. im not sure but. i know my body, and i know when something is wrong and he proceeds to tell me my results at the very end, like he has no emotion, seems like he dosnt want to be there. and is just there bc he needs to make a living. choose your dr wisley.. if this was a legit emergency, and something could of happend overnight or when i woke up tomorrow morning. i would blame it on them, what a DAMN SHAME! -000000000 read more

I had surgery here and in preop/recovery area there was an employee that stood out to me. His name was Jeremiah. Freshly out of surgery he wrapped me up and loaded me up with warm blankets so I wouldn't be cold. He never once seemed bothered by everyone's requests for help in the department. He was amazing and needs to be recognized for going above and beyond to help with the many requests asked of him. My nurse Gabbi was amazing! After having a pretty major surgery, I was in a terrible amount of pain. She helped me with pain meds and also after I started vomiting, she quickly got me anti nausea meds.
