When a person has a medical emergency, it's important to know your options in advance to curb any potential issues. Unfortunately, I didn't think I'd need to visit the ER however I'm happy to say I was tended to in an expedient manner. The Ascension Seton Hays facility is conveniently located in Kyle right off of I-35 close to Walmart with plenty of parking. I checked in at 6am on a Sunday so I can confess that my wait wasn't long at all. The hospital is clean and they seemed to have everything they needed at hand. As for the nursing staff I found them to be quick, experienced and good spirited. I had to have a couple needles and I'm happy to say they didn't miss a vein! All of the staff were quick to address my needs in terms of medication, blankets and information so I never felt neglected. At the end of my stay, I even filled out thank you forms for everyone that took care of me. Overall, the staff were professional so I can lay to rest any concerns about the nurses. As for the doctors they were quick and thorough in terms of treating me. The one slow issue I had was the turn around time on imaging to come back. The process was, discuss your situation with the doctor, they staff would schedule and take the imaging, the offsite doctor would review, pass on the findings to the hospital doctors then they'd address the patient. It can take a very long time, I suppose it depends on the nature of the severity. That said, the doctors kept me informed and comfortable so I have nothing bad to say about that issue. Overall, if you find yourself needing to go to the ER, Ascension should be able to adequately take care of all your needs. The facilities are clean, the staff are fast and comforting and it seemed everyone was there to assist any way they could. I recommend using this hospital if the situation should arise.

It has taken me about a week to review, after the experience I had. I needed time to heal after surgery, and not from your team. I was send to the ER in an ambulance from San Antonio. I as told it was urgent and could not find an orthopedic hand surgeon in San Antonio. When I arrives at the ER, I was put in an exam room and the 2 day nurses treated me really well. I was later visited by the plastics doctor to take pictures of my hand for the surgeon so they could decide what the next steps would be. I was NOT seen by the surgeon he evaluated me through pictures. I was given IV antibiotics and pain meds, layer on we discussed the possibility of bed side procedure or possibly surgery in operating room. I couldn't eat or drink anything until we figured it out. I later was visited by the nurse that did all my intake and told me we were going to soak it in benzadine to soften the finger to make it easier to open for surgery (there was an infection where the opening of a cyst between my knuckles were) after that she had me wash my hands and get back in the bed, where she looked at it and said there was as stuff coming out of it, so she squeezed it, That was PAINFUL! She then stated "I won't do that again" I was later given an X-ray, and blood drawn because it looked like we were having surgery. The next morning around 8:00am the plastics doctor comes in, tells me we will be operating around 12noon, my wife, decides to drive home to take care of the dog, and ash up and come back before surgery starts. We live in San Antonio so the drive was 2 hours from where we live. She leaves and 2 hours later the New nurse comes in and tells me that the surgery has been cancelled , I'm going home and now I have a fracture, WHAT!?! I didn't have one when I was brought from Mission Baptist, they took X-rays, did this happen when the nurse forcefully squeeze my swollen infected finger?? I called my wife told her to come back , she had just made it into San Antonio. We were upset I asked to speak to the surgeon to clarify this whole mess. Then the nurse apologizes 2 hours later when my wife gets back to tell me he "jumped the gun" he had not confirmed no surgery, and if I was definitely going home, just assumed. At this point I'm crying, in pain and so upset. The surgeon finally comes in and tells me they can't do it because of the fracture , I asked to speak to the director or someone In Charge of the hospital, which no one came nor called me. We were discharged , drove home in pain on a Saturday with not a single doctor to help me. Monday I was able to see an orthopedic hand specialist and 2 days later had my surgery. I was also told that the fracture should not have been a factor on why surgery couldn't be performed: now I'll just wait for all hospital bills, ambulance bills, doctors bills that could have been avoided if this hospital and the hospital before would have cared about the absolute best care for their patients I would never recommend anyone going to this hospital.

This review is for the Maternity Services care given at Ascension Seton Hays on 02/01/2023-02/04/2023. My daughter (1st time mama), checked in on 02/01/2023 to be induced & since sharing is definitely caring, I thought I would share our experience & help give some FYI(s) & Helpful Tips for anyone else thinking about delivering their new baby at this hospital location. FYI(s): - After hours: If you check in after hrs, you will have to go through the emergency room dept to complete your check-in & the staff will then take you over to the maternity unit. The hospital doors do lock at 8pm & the only entrance to check in and out of the hospital will be the emergency room door. -Outside food delivery: If you're wanting to order food using Uber Eats, Grub Hub ect, you can do so just make a note for the driver to meet you at the entrance of the hospital closest to you (main, emergency, ect.). I also put a note for the driver to call my cell once they arrived. - No Nursery: Not sure if this is the norm for hospitals these days..but FYI, this hospital does not have a nursery to send your baby to. You will have to keep the baby in the room w/ you at all times. I have to give a shout out to the AWESOME Labor & Delivery Nurses, who took care of my daughter..Lexi & Grace! They both were so caring & helped my daughter have an amazing birthing experience! I really appreciated how Lexi always took the time to explain something to us & was always very thorough w/ answering any questions we had. She definitely helped put us both at ease especially since we were "birthing newbies". They both definitely helped my daughter avoid having to have a c-section w/ their experience of birthing positions to try out (hospital did have peanut birthing ball to use) to help get her body ready for birth & also being open to try birthing positions that they weren't so familiar w/..thank you Grace! Lastly, I wanted to share the helpful tip to bring any items w/ you that will help make your overnight hospital stay a little more comfortable. Here are a few items that we took w/ us: -Pillows from home & throw blankets -Essential oil diffuser w/ lavender oil (really helped create a calming effect in my daughters labor room & helped w/ me avoid getting a headache from the lack of sleep since I was the birthing partner) -Portable speaker to play brown noise to help drown out the hospital sounds & really helped us be able to close our eyes & get sleep when possible during the loooong birthing process. Playing brown noise (on Spotify) also helped create the calming ambiance we were going for in the birthing room. When it was time for my daughter to push, we played a Michael Jackson playlist on the portable JBL speaker..I mean who doesn't LOVE Michael Jackson..PYT! ;) Hope, this info helps! Rebecca

We were very impressed with this emergency room visit. There were a dozen people in the main waiting seat, but we were seen faster than expected. The ER doctor, Dr O. Barak was very thorough and caring. I have to say the same for the nursing staff, kudos to ER Nurse Holly. I am very overwhelmed by the level of care from everyone we encountered. The ER was larger than it looks, we were placed in room #21. Nevertheless, the logistics must be commended. The blood work is done in a ER lab, so the walk (actually rolled in the bed) is just but steps away. We were never rushed, and all the care was extremely professional.

There is a ballad waiting to be written - something along the lines of Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's…read moreRestaurant Massacree" perhaps - about this woman who is strong, obstinate and disturbingly determined. The ballad should also be about the place that heroically enabled her stubbornness and resolve. Here's the raw data, and wildly, every bit of it is true. I pieced it together after speaking with about a dozen people. 10 weeks after having undergone two heart procedures, my nearly deaf 93-year-old mom sets out on her own for an adventure. Her goal? The scrumptious lox bagel at Mary's Cafe. She missteps exiting the car and... kaboom! She falls and breaks her hip. She is literally across the street from St. David's Medical Center. A kind man rushes to her aid. Together, at her command, they get her BACK IN THE CAR. SHE DRIVES HERSELF ACROSS TOWN AND GOES HOME. There, she realizes that she can't get out of the car. She is half in-half out. After ten minutes, an innocent passerby in our quiet residential neighborhood hears her bleating plea and - again - at her command, helps get her back in the car, whereupon mom DRIVES HERSELF ACROSS TOWN AND BACK TO ST DAVID'S. It took three nurses and the manager of concierge services to extract her from her old beater Honda - the one with manual door locks - and it ended up in valet parking alongside the Porsches and a Ferrari. Mom would go on to have a nine inch nail inserted in her hip and spend two weeks at St. David's, one week in the Medical Center and one week in St. David's Rehabilitatiom Hospital. Here she was treated with dignity and compassion by every single person we encountered. And there were tons of them. Every effort was made to make her feel comfortable. Cozy even. The staff made her laugh. Encouraged her. Listened carefully to every word she said. Her in-house doctors watched over so thoughtfully. The physical and occupational therapists helped her to understand that she *could* meet her goal of regaining her independence. Yes, there were times when a nurse promised to bring her something and then forgot, but really, things couldn't have gone better. The food? Not too shabby, and if you are a visitor, there are alternating pop up caterers for things like sushi, Indian and Mexican food, every week day. Parking? Free if you're over 65. Just scan your driver's license instead of your parking stub. And my mom's old beater Honda rubbing shoulders with the glamor cars in Valet? I drove it out myself... free of charge.

They've made improvements to parking and the rooms, but the café and food options still need some work. The check-in process for day procedures could also use improvement. However, the follow-up care after the ER visit could be better. Overall, this hospital is one of the better options in the Austin area. After reading others' reviews and their experiences, I've realized that many of the issues are common across hospitals in the US medical system, not just this one. Despite her visible dehydration and the difficulty staff had establishing an IV, she remained in the ER for approximately four hours without receiving any IV fluids. Before being discharged, she suffered a physical setback, yet she was still sent home. The following day, we were notified that she tested positive for C. diff. It is deeply concerning that a patient in her condition, with what turned out to be a serious infection, was brushed off and discharged while still thirsty and weak. We now have to wait several days to see her primary care physician for follow-up care that should have been initiated or supported by the emergency team. I am disappointed by the lack of effort and the dismissive attitude we encountered during this visit. I would appreciate a review of her case and an explanation as to why standard interventions, such as administering saline fluids, were not provided given her symptoms. We can do better for all patients.

I figure I better write this review before a year is up on it. This was not a plan visit but then…read moreagain what hospital visit is planned. I'm just gonna cover the highlights of what makes this good and bad in my opinion. First and foremost with any hospital ratings is the nurses. I've got to admit this ascension Seton has more outstanding; above average nurses. Like around 70%. Then about 15% our average and 10% are below average. Unfortunately, there are about 5% that are in the category of why are they even nurses if they hate people? I found these mostly to be the Night Shift people. Next step is the hospital beds, they have two types. I'm gonna call them the Chevy and the Cadillac. Needless to say they are both uncomfortable. The bar that gets them to move up and down so you could sit lay down have your legs up or also what sticks in your back the entire time making sleep impossible. The Chevy beds I have to admit did at least have convenient factors of a cell phone charger right in the framework so you didn't have to try and stretch it to the wall. It was also easier to make the bed go up and down, which is extremely helpful around meal times. It is a pain to get your food served on a tray that needs to slide under your bed, except it doesn't give you room to sit with the table in front of you. There were so many times when I had to eat almost laying down with just my neck above the food tray, not comfortable The temperature throughout the hospital it's always a bit chilly. I can't remember the reason for it but it's medical. One room they had me in. I was freezing and I like the cold. I asked for more blankets since most of the blankets they have are so thin. My favorite was they asked me if I wanted a heated blanket and what they do is they throw it in the dryer for about 15 minutes then bring it to you. So you have a short amount of time where your body can absorb that heat before it's all cold again. My main point being is that freezing room was freezing because the air conditioning was broken in it and it was probably about 62° until they fixed it. Now the most important factor the food. Most of the time they will hand you the menu items that you can order off of they don't tell you about the off menu items. Get to know the lady who brings around the menus and be real nice to her and she will tell you what off menu items that she can get for you. There were certain things I did, which I don't normally do. I told them I was allergic to pork because that pork was so overcooked. It was disgusting. Don't order extra vegetables. It basically is overcooked mush. And whatever you do, don't eat the eggs in the morning. They are the fake powder kind that you mix with water and fry up. Trust me it taste fake. Some of the favorites of the off menu items were the spinach, strawberry pecan salad and the grilled chicken sandwich. I don't know about anyone else, but I basically saw my doctor for approximately two minutes before I went in for surgery and that was it. You mostly deal with the nurses or the doctors assistants. During my time there, they were renovating the hospital because it was an older one. So if you were brought to the basement to have test done, you get to go by the new cafeteria being built, which was going to be huge. I don't want to say I wanna be here again but as a hospital, it was OK

A nice candy striper named Mike escorted me to the west section of the building as I entered through the North Lobby. I managed to find my friend and was so happy to see her. There were nurses coming to her room pretty frequently, which I am sure is the custom for patients in Intensive Care unit (ICU). She appeared to be getting top notch care. She absolutely loved her pho! We were able to visit for a short while before I had to jump on a work call. Family and friends are important to me. It was like a walk in the park to me and I didn't even need extra pain medicine at that point. They use two plates two rods and 12 screws. My point for bringing this up is I have a very strong pain tolerance and for you to understand the rest of the story you can kind of gauge of where I'm coming from.when I had my 3 tier spinal fusion on April 12th that's when I was at the mercy of the hospital and a very poor nursing staff. Let me start by telling you, when I woke up from surgery I thought that I was just going to die. I couldn't believe the amount of pain I was in. Then I come out to find the nurses saying hold on will get you some pain medicine. Really people? Anytime I needed to use the bathroom or a bed pan it would take up to 30 minutes sometime for someone to come they always shut the door so nobody hears you. When I was done I would ring the button and nobody would come by the time it was over 20 minutes I was screaming crying and begging them not to ignore me to come help me. They came when they heard that. They treated me physically rough and had no sense of compassion whatsoever. The first night there I was scolded like a six-year-old because I brought my own medication to show them so they would know what I needed. They try to embarrass me and talk about each one of how many there was and write it down. I wasn't embarrassed every single thing I had was a prescription from a doctor. She asked the nurse next to her to sign it, and the nurse + why. And the older nurse said it's just procedure just sign it. That's when the bell started going off in my head. They had no idea that I was a medical professional of 20 years. They did not in-service any of the staff on how to gently move me or pivot me. That should've been a regulatory thing for them to do before trying to help me move. They did not do this. So every time they move me it was like agony every second. Then they would get annoyed because I couldn't get up fast enough for them and say things under their breath. The one time I had a bowel movement in my bed pan and I heard the nurses complaining and she was cursing saying I don't get paid enough shit to do this. Then on many occasions I heard the nurses arguing over who was going to toilet me. One because I take so long and two they didn't like having to lift me up. And you could hear them down the hallway arguing about this. And this one the door was open. I weighed 135 pounds soaking wet. So I was not heavy at all for two people to lift. Yet they bitched Mont to complain about it and so they started sending in mail staff only. Everyone of the male staff or wonderful nurses treated me kindly and did not hurt me. All the females were exactly the opposite. And I never got my medication's to where I was supposed to. I would ask and explain ask and explain and tell them to compare the ones they took. But it didn't happen that way. I had to call my husband twice and then when the physician assistant came in he was all angry at me because of it. I know that my rights were violated especially the Hyppa ones. The way they treated my physical body was abusive. The fact they argued over who had to deal with me like I was a hard patient or something. I totally know what it takes to take care of a patient and I always thank them and tell them how much I appreciated them. It didn't matter they were still always annoyed to help me. Then The physician assistant try to make me go home early when it was just two days after my surgery. Mind you I couldn't even sit up by myself. He said everybody comes home after a couple days. I explain to him I am not everybody. So I was able to get two more days of doctors care. I was asked if I felt safe going home. I told the nurse "NO" . She asked why. I explained that I couldn't do anything by myself, not even able to sit up by myself. Her first response was "Are you scared of your husband? It took every ounce of my control not to yell at this woman. As I was sat up by the nurse and my husband I was in agony. The woman nurse acting like she gave a rats ass! All a show just for my husband. It took a full week for them to wash me after sweating from the physical part of the surgery. I also needed 2 blood tra
