Dr. Jeff has a rather cold and distant manner, and his examination techniques and thoroughness were not up to the standard of my other dentists. During my first check-up, he finished the examination and left without discussing the results with me. It was only the nurse who later relayed that I would need fillings. At my previous dentists, I was always shown the condition of my teeth either on a screen or using a mirror so I could clearly see why a procedure was necessary. With Dr. Jeff, I had to request him to return and explain, and he then identified an additional tooth needing a filling--meaning the first check-up was clearly not thorough. Communication with the front desk was also unprofessional. When I asked for specific billing and service information, they were dismissive and vague. I have since transferred to another dental office. Cherry Creek has many good options, so I recommend others to consider carefully before choosing this practice. read more

This practice is not supported administratively enough to provide an okay customer experience. I recently received a bill for services rendered years ago. The statement provided included a long list of items ranging from 7 years ago through 3 years ago, and included a charge for not showing up - we actually did, and the office was closed. I also DID try to go within the last year. I called several times to make an appointment and left messages when the inbox was not full, but no one ever answered the phone or called me back. Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise since I will likely be surprised with a bill in 3-7 years. It's okay through, "as a courtesy" they won't report you to a collections agency for a bill you didn't know about right away. read more

I stopped going here after being a patient for quite a few years. The office had a constant change over in staff. They didn't have a regular dental hygienist, only temporary people. Many of the procedures I had done now require replacement. The dentist has no bedside manner whatsoever, but office staff are very friendly to compensate for it. The dentist allows his assistant to do much of the work. For example, when the assistant was cementing my last crown, she had to file down the crown and the adjacent tooth in order to make it fit. read more

I am amazed by the quality of Dr. Johnston's work, his facility, and staff. I am appalled by his choice of voicemail services that nearly prevented me from ever using his office. The good: Great people, as long as they answer their phones (their AI service is not just useless, but it pre-empts their regular phone messages, like the office being closed and nobody will return your call). Once that was straightened out, I had 5-star experiences with them. Dr. Johnston uses tiny drill burrs where possible. As a result, the eight cavities my old (one-star) dentist was going to fill ended up being 3 to watch and 5 shallow cavities filled with no anesthetic, and it was so fast that I got my teeth cleaning in the same visit. They have large monitors that show patients entertainment or tooth pictures, and have remarkably informed staff who really enjoy their work. I learned more about how to properly water floss than I ever knew there was to learn! If they would replace their AI "service" they could be the first 5-star dental office I've ever used. read more

Dr. Johnston replaced my upper 4 front teeth in December 2023 with crowns he made on sight. This was after 2.5 years of Invisalign. They lasted until April 2024, before they started to fall out. I've had to take out loans to pay someone else to do it properly. i don't recommend Dr. Johnston. read more

I had many cavities filled... had to come back a few time to get them fixed, etc. I just moved up to Eagle... and went to the dentist up here for the first time. I hadn't been to a dentist in over a year (I was pregnant) and FULLY expected to have cavities since my Ascent visit a year ago and they told me I had "baby" cavities they were watching..... plus I was pregnant (creates bad teeth)....nope no cavities! I find it hard to believe that the positive reviews on here are from credible patients, unless "Dr." Johnston and his staff only decide to lie to people at random about the condition of their teeth. Maybe he thinks some of us are stupid, but he lied to the wrong person. Let me start by saying I have always taken phenomenal care of my teeth. Brush 2-3x a day, floss daily, have had a very minimal amount of cavities in my entire life, even as a kid. I visited Ascent last week for a simple cleaning and check-up after switching insurance companies. After my quick cleaning, Dr. Johnston awkwardly told me someone would discuss my treatment. I'm thinking, okay maybe I have a cavity or two. It had been 1 year since I last visited a dentist but I had no cavities then, and I take care of my teeth. I was brought to a room and someone came in, pulled up my x-rays on a screen and proceeded to tell me that I had 14 CAVITIES. FOURTEEN!!! ON EVERY SINGLE MOLAR AND PRE-MOLAR. I could not believe I believed this at first. We scheduled my next appointment to address the "more serious" concerns, leaving the rest to monitor until my insurance renewed the following year. After telling a few people about my visit, I started realizing HOW BIZARRE and NOT POSSIBLE this was... So I started reading reviews and saw that I am not the only one they have tried to deceive. What is wrong with you people? I requested the x-rays and sent them to another dentist that I know, to be told that she saw nothing wrong with my teeth. I called a new recommended dentist office to schedule a second opinion appointment and the receptionist LAUGHED AT THE FACT THAT SOMEONE TRIED TO TELL ME I HAD 14 CAVITIES! I just visited the new dentist this morning and found out that I only needed to replace two broken fillings and that they saw zero issues besides that. They actually told me I had beautiful teeth (because I do). They took a couple complimentary new x-rays, due to the ones from Ascent being fuzzy (maybe manipulated, who knows!).They also mentioned they have NEVER seen a "treatment plan" as suggested by the crooks at Ascent. Dr. Johnston, you can try to reply and defend yourself but it seems you & your entire staff are a bunch of con artists. Warning!!! I had to switch to Ascent after my insurance delisted my other dentist. On my first visit to Ascent they found 8 cavities and drilled them all (I've only ever had two cavities in my life). The dentist had no bedside manner - didn't care about my complaining of pain. I spoke with my old dentist and they believe that based on past history this drilling of 8 cavities was completely unnecessary. Shame on this dentist for putting me through this. I will preface my review by saying I take excellent care of my teeth and have been to a dentist every six months since my first tooth came up as a child. I have zero cavities and healthy gums. My husband and I visited ascent dental the same week and both left feeling less than satisfied. The dentist told me I had four cavities that needed filling. Then told my husband that he had gum disease and they would be unable to even preform a cleaning, yet charged him the full price. They recommended I get four enamel fillings. (Not covered by insurance.) And that my husband get a deep clean ($500.) The receptionist was great very friendly and nice. The dental hygienist, Willie, was very talkative and friendly. I learned all about him and his life, maybe even a bit to much. The dentist however, was extremely short and abrupt. He had bloodshot eyes and it looked like he had been up all night drinking at a poker game. He spent about 30 seconds looking at my teeth and the one and only Thing he said to me was, "what do you do for a living that you can get your teeth cleaned on a Wednesday morning?" Needless to say we went and got a second opinion. Results? I have zero cavities and my husbands gums are healthy as can be. He received a gum check as well as measurement along with a regular teeth cleaning. Unfortunately, I had recommended this dental office to a friend before I had gone based on the friendly demeanor of the receptionist. After her appointment she told me they recommended that she have four teeth filled as well! It is very clear to me that this office is simply looking for money. I am very disappointed that it made 5280's list of top dental practices. Boo that. Will never be returning here. read more

There was NOTHING on the xrays and they sent me home without doing a normal cleaning because "it's easier to bill insurance when we do it all at once." Such a waste. They will nickel and dime you for everything, weeks later, billing your insurance with undisclosed services provided. Ascent Dental 4500 E Cherry Creek South Dr Denver, CO On March 24 (Wednesday), I took my mom to Ascent Dental to get her upper dentures adjusted. It was supposed to be a minor adjustment with the end result being her whole mouth and gums burned and her face and lips were swollen. Her gums became blistered! We went back on Thursday for them to look at it, Dr. Jeff Johnston looked inside my Moms mouth and just walked away, didn't say anything, didn't tell us what was wrong and what needed to be done. At that time assistant Corny told us something went wrong in the process. They prescribed some magic mouthwash, which our pharmacy didn't have until the following Monday. On Saturday we went to another dentist for a 2nd opinion, we found out my mom had a yeast infection. The blisters and infection were so bad that my Mom couldn't put her dentures in, she also wasn't able to eat much for over one month! For a 77 year old woman, not eating for over a month is Absolutely Not Healthy!!! On April 27, (Tuesday), we went back and told them her dentures needed some adjustment. Same story, the Dr. Looks at it and again and failed to tell us what was wrong, only time he had the front desk come to tell us we had to go to a Lab to get the dentures adjusted, in Westminster which is about 40 minutes from our house, we picked this dentist because it's only 5 minutes from our house. We when to the Lab on Friday April 30, upon entering the lab we could smell what appeared to smell like chemicals, Inside the lab had a very strong chemical smell. So much so it made my Mom feel DIZZY! There was nowhere to sit for my mom to do the adjustment, we had to do everything in the employee lunch room. The Lab couldn't do the adjustment because the Dr. never sent them the work order, they tried to call Ascent Dental but unfortunately they're closed on Friday, therefore we had no choice but to go back to the lab to get the adjustment done and over with. I called Ascent Dental on Monday, at 7:40 am, to have them send the lab the work order, they told me they would call me back when they had it was complete so I could call the lab to make an appointment. By 9:30 am nothing, no call from them, I called them back, Corny said they were in the process of sending the work order. I called the lab to make an appointment only to find out they still hadn't received a work order. My mom was finally able to get her dentures done today, May 3rd! We were in the employee lunch room, while they were eating lunch while she got her dentures adjustment. read more

I went to Ascent dental once because it is very close to where I live and the reviews seemed good. While I was there they said that there was an issue updating my insurance so I would have to pay $400 out of my pocket for right now, and they assured me that once the insurance checked out they would refund the money directy to my card. Two weeks later my insurance paid them the amount in full but they still have not payed me back. It has now been exactly 3 months since this happened and I keep calling them to get my money back but they have been nothing but rude and unhelpful. I called today and the receptionist said that they mailed a check, however, I checked the mail again and there was no check! When I called back to tell her that I did not receive the check in the mail, she was quite rude in checking the address, then told me that the dentist was "out of town" for the week and there was nothing to be done. As of right now the office has my money along with the money that was payed to them by my insurance. It has been 3 months of me asking them for my money back with no result. I told the receptionist that I will not be in town next week or the entire month and I need my money, she was very rude, showed no understanding or respect, and did not help at all. I read other posts about people having similar issues and I just don't know how long they will take to pay me back! I'm new to the area & wanted a dentist close to where I live. Everything looked good on the website; but when I tried to make an appointment, they wanted my social security number. There is no reason to have to give that out nor is my insurance associated with that number. I never give out my SS number unless to a financial institution. If I could give this dentists' office no stars, I would. First of all, the dentist himself is fine. He's good at his job. The hygienists? Also fine and good at their jobs. My issue? The office posts their hours as being 7am - 5pm, however if you call them at 4pm or show up at 4pm to collect your night guard they will straight up not be there. About a year ago they told me one of my teeth was cracking. They showed me the x-ray and it totally was. They said that, based on the condition of my teeth, it didn't appear to be a grinding related crack, but rather a clenching issue while sleeping. Fine. I had a night guard made to protect from future cracks and was called to come pick it up. I asked the receptionist who called what time they closed that day and she said 5pm. I left work early to get there right at 4:45pm (at the time, I worked up in Longmont so I had to leave at 3:45pm to make it in time). When I walked in the building the lights were off, the door was locked and there was no note on the door. I called the office and was greeted by a message saying the office was closed. I called the following morning and expressed my frustration. The receptionist told me that if there are no appointments left in the day the dentist lets everyone leave early. I asked why she didn't call me to inform me when she knew I was coming by to pick up my night guard. The answer? "You didn't have an appointment." I chalked it up to an annoying one-off encounter and went back. Cut to this last visit when that same tooth is now chipping. They said I'd need a crown and that they would work up a cost estimate and get back to me. They called and left a message with no estimate. So I called back at 4:30pm on a Tuesday. The office was closed (early) again, according to the message. So I left a voicemail requesting a call back. A full week goes by with no response. So I call again today (Tuesday) at 4:06pm. Again the office is closed! I leave another voicemail and then decide....you know what? If they don't need my business, I don't need to give it to them. I made an appointment with another dentist in the area with MUCH better reviews and hope this office will work out better. If I can give some advice to "Dr. Jeff" it would be this: Stop letting your staff go home early. If they want to leave at 4pm every day and you want to let them, CHANGE THE HOURS LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE. At the very least, someone should have given me a call back within the 7 days that followed my first voicemail. If they're not busy enough to stay open a full day (which does not surprise me) then how are they too busy to return a patient's phone call? DO NOT see this dentist. You WILL regret it. If it's not the same issue I've run into, it'll be something else. They make you leave a card on file in case you have to cancel so they can charge you as a no show no matter the reason. Luckily this never happened to me, but I was always annoyed when they asked me to give them my card number. read more

This place was not satisfactory. Had several issues billing. Long story short they waited to long to submit my bills to my insurance therefore insurance would not cover it. Then they threatened to send me to collections if I didn't pay for their mistake. Ultimately, they reduced their bill by 60% after I posted a negative review on google. I hope they get their stuff together and start providing good service to people. Also, watch out for the billing lady Val. She is very mean and hostile. read more

UPDATE: one day after I posted this review, Valentina called to inform me that suddenly, the practice magically was able to produce proof of their claim submissions. An appeal was filed with Humana and the charges were paid for through insurance. Dr. Johnston sent me a direct email, his EXACT words were: "Hopefully this will all get worked out and we can move forward, even though we end up with the negative review tattoo." This practice only cares about maintaining their image. Although my dispute ended up being resolved, at the end of the day I was still lied to and misled by clinic staff regarding their claim process and ability to produce proof of claim submissions. After all was said and done and resolved, I still DO NOT recommend this practice. They are full of themselves and ONLY act in their own self interest (just like how they ONLY began helping me when I posted a negative review that hurt their reputation). Prior to moving here, I had the same dentist for over 10 years and had never had any dental issues. Imagine how surprised I was when I saw Dr. Johnston for the first time and was told that I had several cavities and would need numerous fillings. I decided to get a second opinion from my old dentist when I traveled back home, and he said that I had no cavities and did not need any fillings. I was recently in a cycling accident where I did a 25mph face plant on the concrete/pavement (thank you City of Erie for not keeping our bike lanes safe). Five of my front teeth were destroyed in the crash along with my upper lip and chin area. Three of the front teeth were a bridge that Dr. Johnston created on his Ceric machine and the other two were porcelain caps that were put in by another dentist over 15 years ago. I didn't realize the emotional impact a person goes through when your front teeth get knocked out. I refused to leave the house or talk to friends for weeks. Four days after the accident I visited Dr. Johnston to access the damage and see what could be done to restore the front teeth. My healthcare insurance had not paid a dime yet, but Dr. Johnson went ahead with the examination prior to receiving any approvals from my insurance company. Since it was an accident my healthcare insurance kicked in to cover the costs. Dr. Johnston could not do much because the swelling was bad and the pain from the accident was still a bit overwhelming BUT he was able to re-install the bridge temporarily and build up the two broken crowns so at least I had some sort of front teeth. After the swelling subsided a few weeks after the accident I went in to have the bridge and crowns replaced permanently. Dr. Johnston and his staff were amazing! As much pain as I was in from the accident they were very gentle and took their time with me. Dr. Johnston was very meticulous about matching the color of the other teeth so the new bridge and crowns matched perfectly. When is was all said and done my new teeth look better than before the accident! Fantastic work! Here's why I appreciate Dr. Johnston and think he's the best ... to this day we are still fighting the health insurance company for payment - Victoria has been amazing dealing with my helth insurance company! He has been paid nothing! I offered to make payments but Dr. Johnston refused to take my money knowing I have plenty of healthcare bills from the accident. Oh, and I haven't even received a bill or a request for payment from his office. I can't imagine another dentist treating a patient like this and going out of his way to help repair my teeth without payment upfront. For these reasons, I gave Dr. Johnston 5 stars, he deserves it! read more

I have receding gums and both Willie, the hygienist and Dr Jeff took great care in showing me and explaining what was going on with my gums and why a skin graft was the best solution. I called to see if they can waive and said that they've waived canceled appointments in the past, which was a year before. They said that was their policy and they couldn't do anything about it. Shockingly dishonest! I went to this office for about a year. After my first visit my insurance was maxed out. I later decided to cancel the insurance because I was having to pay cash for everything anyways. Well when I went for a periodic cleaning that I paid cash for I got a bill in the mail for another $150 for a "dr exam". I called and asked what this was and they said it was so the dentist could exam my teeth." I told them the dentist is suppose to look at my teeth during a cleaning. They told me it was a different exam because of periodontal disease. The dentists leaned me back in my chair and asked how I was doing. I responded good and that was apparently me consenting to this exam. The woman I was dealing with told me she thought I had insurance and they normally pay for it. When I confronted her that she was then ripping off insurance companies and doing extra charges for services that were not consented to she didn't have anything to say. This was in October. I later get a call from them in December or January asking if I wanted to schedule another appointment which I declined. Then I get a call today, April 2nd, asking if I was coming to the appointment. I told her I never scheduled an appointment which she claims was done in October. When asked why they called me a few months ago to schedule another appointment if I had already done that in October. She just repeated herself. She then told me I would have to pay a cancellation fee. I wanted to go tell her to "you know what". Sure enough I get a cancellation fee! There is a reason they have flatscreen on every chair in a very expensive office building. Careful going to this place. I wouldn't be surprised if I got a filling that wasn't actually needed! Super disappointed considering this was allegedly "one of the best dentis Sounds like they waived the $150 but are still making me pay $50 for the appointment.
