This review has been a long time coming. My husband and I chose my engagement ring here in September, 2014, and I recently sent the ring back to be cleaned and reset, and I was once again blown away by how amazing they are. First of all, choosing the ring was one of the most magical experiences ever. It was like a shopping scene from a princess movie or something. I know that sounds melodramatic, but Roger worked with us, and he knows his business, appears to love it, and is highly intuitive about what people want. Yes, we had told him budget and general ideas about what I wanted, but we had told other jewelers the same thing, and they didn't come close to providing us the same experience. Part of this is because they have more stock, so when I liked something, Roger could just go get more diamonds that he thought I'd like. With other jewelers, they would nicely offer to have their supplier send more of whatever we liked. It was so much more amazing to just express interest in something and immediately see more of the same. Seriously, it felt like if Willy Wonka sold diamonds. That's how intuitively Roger responded to our interest, and how much it felt like these guys could just get anything I want. It was a little overwhelming for about five or ten seconds (because how could I choose?!?!), and again, Roger noticed what was going on and assured me that I would feel an emotional connection when we found the right stone. Why did I trust him? I have no idea because I usually don't get emotionally attached to things. I was able to stay detached and logical when I bought a house. But he was right. We found one that looked like it was dancing on my hand, and I felt an emotional connection. And he didn't leave it at that. We discussed the stats, and Roger actually knew the standards of the people who graded the different diamonds we considered, so he was able to tell us "this one is graded a G and this one an H, but this guy is much more stringent in his work, and you're getting a stone that is priced as an H but most people would rate a G." (Did I mention that he really knows his business?) It was fascinating and reassuring. We had already discussed that I wanted yellow gold, and a solitaire setting, so he recommended a basket setting to secure the stone and that was that. Two weeks later, I came back to pick up the ring of my dreams. (He gleefully showed me an enormous diamond while I was there-- seriously, he's the Willy Wonka of diamonds.) Now for the update. It's been four years and change and I wear this ring all the time. I took it off to tile my floors; I take it off to clean it; I took it off for boxing classes. Otherwise it's on my hand. A while back I noticed that one of the prongs would occasionally catch on threads or my hair. Nothing serious, but it started to happen more frequently. If this happens to you, take your ring back to get it checked. I live across the country now, so I planned to do it next time I was in Atlanta. I waited too long. The stone came out while I was doing laundry. (Could have been so much worse-- I noticed immediately and found it in the dryer!) I'm friends with Roger's brother, so I asked for their phone number and this time I got Todd. He took care of everything. When I say it was seamless, that doesn't begin to cover it. I had intended to see if they could recommend someone in Seattle who could repair it for me, but no. They insisted on handling it-- the shipping (fast and insured and so secure it felt like MI5 was coordinating it), the repair, and a heck of a cleaning. In addition to Todd keeping me posted, Roger also texted me, and was insistent that they wanted to check it out and find out what the problem was and make sure it never happened again. (I don't see this as their fault at all, btw. I wear my all the time and gold is malleable. I plan to have it checked more regularly from now on.) If you are in Atlanta and have a career that may take you to other cities, know that Roger, Todd, and everyone at Ascot will continue to serve you. In fact, they will do their best to insist on it. I can't speak for other jewelers, but I do know that the reason I initially asked them to recommend someone in Seattle was because I don't trust just anyone to take my ring and give me back the same stone. (We've all seen Dateline, right?) Now I don't need to worry about finding a local person to take care of it; I will always send it or take it to Ascot for anything I need. I got my ring back yesterday morning. The cleaning reminded me of how magnificent this thing really is. Of course they sent the ring beautifully presented in a box tied with a nice ribbon-- don't work with them if you like things done half-way. And they did all of this between Christmas and New Years. The ring left my possession on Dec 26, and I have it back January 8. I couldn't ask for more-- that's a theme with them. read more

I got my engagement ring from Ascot and I love it. I've had it for a year and a half now and it still looks great, no issues at all. The customer service and shopping experience is much better than chain jewelry stores. Ascot does not have a showcase for you to browse. Instead you sit down and speak with a sales associate about what you are looking for and they pull rings from their inventory for you to try on. I like the one on one service much more. My fiancée and I ended up designing a ring and having it made. It was so easy, we told them what design elements we liked from a few of the rings they showed us and they combined it all into one ring. They were even able to show us a CAD image of the proposed ring before they actually made it. The price in my opinion is about the same or slightly more than other jewelry stores. Thanks to a Yelp search, we were able to drive about a block up Roswell Rd and turn left on Hildebrand to find Ascot in Sandy Springs, just north of 285. If you are in the market for diamond jewelry-- engagement rings, wedding bands, custom designs, and more-- please make the same drive. You won't be disappointed. Alison Thomas helped us out, and she was professional, personable, and easy to work with. She listened to all our concerns, understood our budget, and showed us the most beautiful and unique items. There was no vibe of a high pressure sale, no manager showing up with a bigger and better deal (as if it wasn't obvious that the price tag is marked up by 200% over value at the chain store), only a bottom line price tag for beautiful jewelry. We had our own loose diamond (though Ascot has a beautiful selection of GIA certified stones). We found the most beautiful engagement ring setting, absolutely beautiful craftsmanship. I haven't seen anyone else with an emerald cut setting like mine-- the dainty band is so sparkly! We returned for wedding bands and worked with Alison again. She listened to my ideas and I was able to design my own band! The pricing was still well-below what was available at major retailers and Alison was in touch at all stages of production. If you buy from Ascot, your jewelry will forever be cleaned, inspected for loose prongs, and replated (if you choose white gold), as a courtesy. I ordered from online a diamond to be put into an engagement ring. I was pricing around settings at a few retailers locally. I visited Ascot because they were one of the few places that would inspect and verify the quality of the diamond I ordered online. Did I mention that they did this for free with no expectation of me? They gave a very thorough and honest opinion of the diamond. Alison was such a pleasure to work with that I checked out their assortment of settings as I did in several other shops. I found one in a catalog that I liked in another shop as well. Ascot was more customer friendly, less expensive (I think due to them doing mostly wholesale), and were able to make modifications to the setting - as in replacing little stones with emeralds and topazes. On top of that, they ordered extra of the stones so that if we ever lost any, they could replace them with exact matches. Oh and did I mention that the replacement of those would be free as well? We've had the ring for about 18 months now and so far, no lost stones, but we are due in for our first free cleaning :) read more
