Great experience from start to finish, would recommend to anyone in the market for jewerly. I came to Maurice for a custom engagement ring with my girlfriend (now fiance!). Maurice is very knowledgeable and was professional throughout the entire process. We looked at diamonds and explained the type of ring we wanted. After the initial meeting, I worked with Maurice on my budget and the specifcs of the ring. I followed this same process at several other Jewelers and stores in the area. I selected Maurice because I trusted him the most, not only to stay within budget but more importantly to design and deliver a quality, custom engagement ring. My girlfriend and I both liked Maurice the most and didn't feel pressured or like we were at a used car lot, like some of the other Jewelers we interviewed. Maurice was upfront and open throughout the entire process, we reviewed several diamonds and he provided the corresponding GIA cert # for each and the exact price for each (some places wouldn't do this). This allowed me to compare his diamonds and pricing to other vendors and make a more informed decision on the center stone. Once the stone was selected, he was able to provide a CAD for the ring and once I approved the CAD the build process started. Maurice kept me up to date throughout the entire process and even was able to get the ring a week earlier than planned. Maurice was so much different than other jewelers I spoke to: he didn't try to upsell; he listened to my thoughts, tempered them with thoughtful analysis, and from there advised me on what diamonds were my best options. Trust is also why I went with Maurice over online dealers. In fairness, these online stores can be a little cheaper, but only a little. Here is why I believe paying a bit more to go with Maurice is worth it: 1) Maurice's reputation is everything. His work has earned hime so many 5 star ratings, here and on google. With every client he takes, he puts his reputation on the line. In light of how much engagement rings cost, I wanted someone who had some skin in the game. And while reputation matters to the online dealers, their reputation is more tied up with cost, while Maurice's is about quality. Additionally, the online dealers' reputations do not go as far back as Maurice's. 2) Maurice is easy to work with. He met in person with me on two somewhat lengthy occasions and fielded my questions via phone and email. His patience is impressive, as Ascott does a lot of very expensive, high-end work, and while my ring wasn't cheap, it doesn't compare to some of the other sales Maurice lands. 3) Maurice has the right experience. He's been doing this a long time, and he's good at it. Unlike the online stores, which often function as middle men without a real connection to the diamonds they are selling, Maurice personally inspected the quality of the diamond he sold me. That was important to me because of Maurice's reputation (see 1), because it means that Ascott put its money where its mouth (they actually bought the diamond they sold me and would be stuck with it, if no one wanted it), because pictures don't do a diamond justice (trust me, I've looked at so many diamonds online and in stores and took so many pictures of them), and because diamond certificates (GIA or anyone else) aren't always right. 4) Ascott offers a lifetime of service. Ascott has been around a long time, so there's good reason to believe it'll be there in the years to come. I'm already benefitting from the service they offer. I was flying blind when I picked out my fiance's ring. As a setting, I picked a classic solitaire. My fiance fell in love with the diamond, but wanted to tweak the setting a bit, and Maurice is giving her the personal attention he gave me when he was trying to land the sale. I couldn't imagine having to tweak a setting online, especially since you don't talk to your jeweler online, and (from what I've seen at least) the online stores don't offer customized settings. Great service from Maurice! My brother-in-law brought me to Ascot after purchasing his for my sister. We went to a few shops prior to visiting Maurice and it was a worlds difference. I went to a popular jeweler, Robbins Brothers, and left feeling uncomfortable. They spent more time testing me on which diamond "looked" better to just point out which diamond was actually of higher quality. Instead of helping me find a ring I liked, they spent more time telling me why what I was looking for was not practical. They eventually pulled a "good cop, bad cop" routine and brought a lady in to explain their financing options before I even decided on what I wanted. Additionally, they seemed to want to spend more time bad-mouthing other shops like Ascot than letting their own service do the talking. In summary, it was an unpleasant experience. Maurice, on the other hand, was completely candid and did a great job explaining the pros/cons to what I was looking for. He was adept at providing me visual differences between the diamonds. He made me feel at ease and made buying an engagement ring for my fiancée a stress-free experience. My fiancée absolutely loved the ring. All in all, I enjoyed working with Maurice and will definitely be back for the wedding bands.
