I will preface this review by saying the town of Marietta, PA is one of the most idyllic towns I have been to in the US. It is a river town and is a charming place to stay if you want to visit the area attractions in Lancaster, Lititz, or York. The Ascot House was built in 1800 and has been lovingly renovated by Wendy. Wendy is the best b&b host I have ever encountered and I love her British accent and stories. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and were shown to our room (the Essex). The Essex room is upstairs and the entrance is outside, but you have your own private porch which is great. It is also convenient if you have dogs as we did, because you can walk them or go into the backyard without going through the main house. Wendy is truly the most pet friendly b&b I have ever been to as well, and made sure the dogs had a water bowl on the porch soon after we arrived. She will also pet sit for you if need be for a reasonable rate. We promptly joined another couple on the deck for wine and cheese and had a great time talking to them and Wendy. There are two taverns in town that are in close walking distance, McLeary's and Shanks Tavern. Both have live music, but McLearys is larger and open on Saturday unlike Shanks. We had a great time exploring the town of Lititz on the Saturday and toured the PA Wolf Sanctuary which I highly recommend. Wendy is glad to provide any recommendations you need and we enjoyed the restaurant she recommended in Lititz. Wilbur's Chocolate Company from 1884 is also located in Lititz. The dining room is very formal and decorated in a beautiful manner. We were treated to many courses at breakfast - one morning we had a blueberry cake, fruit, and eggs and bacon, and the next morning we had yogurt and fruit, apple turnover, and waffles with true clotted cream. You can also get your own pot of tea which is a nice touch. You should not need lunch after eating breakfast here. The Lancaster area is very quiet on Sunday so you might have to venture farther for attractions that are open. Our favorite activities were just walking around the town of Marietta and looking at the beautiful 19th century homes, especially along the railroad tracks. They have a Candlelight Tour of some of the old homes every first Sunday in December and we have already booked to go back to the Ascot House because it was truly that special. The Susquehanna is a beautiful river and is located just behind the railroad tracks. Yes, you can hear the trains go by in the middle of the night so I would recommend ear plugs or taking some Benadryl. I wouldn't let that deter you from visiting this b&b which is located in one of the cutest small towns you can think of. There are also lots of wineries in the area that I want to try next time we return to the area. Make sure you check out the Chickie's Rock hike which is very easy and has a great view of the Susquehanna. read more

We just returned from 2 nights at Ascot. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is lovely and clean. Rooms are large and comfortable. The hosts, Bonny and Chris, are an absolute delight. We loved hanging out with them in the kitchen, eating breakfast made to order, and having great conversation! We felt like we were visiting our favorite relatives)))) Even though we gave it 5 stars, I must mention couple of cons. 1. The carpet in the bathroom. I don't like carpets anywhere, let alone in the bathroom. For various reasons it's unsanitary, allot easier to clean tile and hardwood floor, than carpet. 2. The train makes horrible noise, it honks for a long time in the middle of the night which is really disturbing. However, with windows closed you can't hear a thing. 3. Mattresses would need to be updated to something firmer and more modern and orthopedic. But I am sure,in time all will be improved and updated. Outstanding!! We just got back from the Ascot House B&B and we can't wait to go back! The place is so beautiful, clean, well decorated and peaceful, it was just what we were looking for, a great get away weekend. Wendy is the perfect hostess, she knows so much about the town and truly cares about her guests. The breakfast she offers is outstanding, my boyfriend is vegan and she outdid herself by cooking special dishes he could eat. Anyone going to Marietta or anywhere near there has to stay here, this is more than a B&B, is an amazing experience! read more

Lovely old house chock full of antique furniture and furnishings. High 4 poster bed was super comfortable and my wife had to drag me out in the morning. Great breakfast cooked to order with choice of eggs or quiche perfectly cooked bacon, delicious yogurt and berry parfait served in pink depression glass compotes and freshly made home fried potatoes with onion. A unique baked oatmeal with syrup and yougart and choice of breads. The owners were super nice, friendly accommodating and hospitable. Chris was on the board of the historical society and very knowledgeable about the town. Bonnie is also a wealth of knowledge and headed the town's holiday tour of homes for several years. The grounds and gardens are beautiful and the inn is a block from the river trail. Spotlessly clean and neat. The train didn't bother us. We were so happy that we promised to return next year when we visit relatives in the area. High speed internet and modern TV with Hulu. We were able to add two guests for breakfast for a very reasonable fee. read more

I came here with my husband from Maryland during the memorial day weekend to relax. After arriving in Marietta, I noted that the town looked deserted, not a person in sight. In this sleepy town we found the bed and breakfast where there was sufficient parking in the front (and back). After meeting Wendy she gave us a tour of property which was very homey. Cute garden in the back, plenty of rooms to lounge around, and beautiful rooms (we stayed in the Surrey). Wendy was also a gracious host and made the trip perfect and stories of her life and the property are very interesting. Both morning that we were there, breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The location is also not too far to some attractions which can keep you busy though my husband and I tended to stay at the bed and breakfast. We stayed in the "Surrey" room which was beautifully decorated and the bathroom was very large and comfortable for two. My husband and I just spent a weekend at the Ascot House B&B, and absolutely loved it! We found the place thanks to a Groupon, but even without a coupon the place would be very affordable, and excellent value for money. The B&B is situated in a 200+ year old building that has plenty of charm and character, much like Wendy Scott who owns the establishment. She is an incredibly gracious hostess -- attentive, easy to converse with (and you can tell that she's led a rich, fulfilling life), and went the extra mile to include plenty of vegetarian options after learning of my dietary restrictions (she took the trouble to make eggless banana nut muffins for breakfast even though there were plenty of other available items at breakfast-time!). My husband and I had such a great time that we've already talked about making this an annual tradition! read more

The place was nice and clean and Wendy, the owner, was very friendly and had numerous suggestions about places to eat and things to see in the area. Stayed there during a weekend in September w/my girlfriend. Was the 1st time in a bed & breakfast & it was very nice. Wendy was so nice as well as the rest of those who helped prepare breakfast/clean the rooms etc. Upon arriving we received complimentary wine & cheese which made us feel very welcomed and at ease. And Wendy is very good & making sure you're stay is as comfortable as possible. The room itself we stayed in was nice, featured a king sized bed, a couch (that could pull out to a bed) & the bathroom featured jacuzzi jets as well. Though we didn't take advantage of it due to the weather being a bit unseasonably chilly for early September, the garden in the back was spacious. I'd definitely recommend this bed & breakfast to anyone planning to spend a weekend a week etc in the Lancaster, PA aka Amish Country area. read more

If you are looking for a relaxing weekend away, exceedingly comfortable accommodations, and an incredibly warm and engaging hostess, look no farther than Ascot house. Nestled in picturesque Lancaster county, this bed and breakfast meets and exceeds all expectations. The rooms are lovely, the bathrooms (especially those with double tubs) are luxurious, and the house itself is brimming with fascinating history and comfortable nooks to relax in. Bookshelves filled to bursting (and Wendy has read them all), kooky UK board games stacked alongside classic favorites, and gorgeous Georgian interiors are some of the things you'll encounter while walking the halls. Outside, an inviting patio gives you a wonderful view of Wendy's beautifully landscaped garden, where four legged friends and their owners can throw a tennis ball or relax on lawn chairs. The kitchen is fully equipped and open for use between meals, which is a plus for twenty-somethings like myself looking to heat up a late night snack. My friends approached the idea of a bed and breakfast with some trepidation; we'd never been to one before, and didn't know if it would be "our scene." I can say enthusiastically that it was our best couple's retreat to date! The rooms offered a great deal of space and privacy so we were able to meet in one place and chat through the night without disturbing the other guests. The evening wine and cheese was the perfect way to end a long day of travelling, and Marietta and the nearby towns offered anything we needed insofar as groceries within a ten minute ride. The best part of our stay, as you'll hear repeated in many reviews, was our hostess: Wendy. Wendy is a truly remarkable individual with a wealth of stories about the house, the surrounding area, and her own fascinating personal life. As a "concierge" she was incredibly helpful, steering us away from some of the local gimmicks and providing us information on an event that ended up being the surprise hit of the weekend: The Falmouth Goat Races! Between the rooms and Wendy's constant attention to our needs, we felt as comfortable as if we were among family. I would recommend this to anyone of any age, and will definitely be coming back in the future! read more

This is more than just a Bed and Breakfast, Coming here for us is like coming home to visit family. Wendy is such a wonderful, warm person who makes your stay amazing! We stay here when coming out to the sportsman show in Harrisburg and have toured the Lancaster area as well taking in the Amish/Mennonite culture. There really is so much to do and see, that is if you can pull yourself away from chatting with Wendy, we always feel like we could sit & chat with her for hours. We have stayed in several of the rooms and each one is unique in its own, from comfortable beds to spa like bath tubs I found something special and charming each one. The breakfast in the morning is hearty and very tasty and if you have a conversation with Wendy she will accommodate any food issues you might have. I have stayed in quite a few B&B's and I cannot compare any of them to our stay at the Ascot House! Number one in my opinion! read more

When my husband and I arrived at Ascot House Mrs. Wendy said, "You are here to be cherished." That is exactly what happened! The home and gardens are beautiful, and the room was so comfortable and clean, and romantic! What made it one of the best weekends of our lives was Mrs. Wendy. She is the classiest and friendliest woman we have ever met. She has lived an interesting life, and from the moment we walked in the door, we felt like we were visiting a friend. The highlight of our weekend was drinks and bread and cheese on her beautiful deck. Come to stay in a beautiful, historic home, but fall in love with a classy, lovely person. The breakfast was so good that we didn't need to go and get lunch.The staff, made up of grandmother, mother and daughter were friendly and wonderful. We came with a Groupon, but are all ready planning a return weekend. It was seriously idyllic and one of the best weekends we've shared during 27 years of marriage. read more
