So we'd been going for awhile and have always enjoyed it. We like to get the gyro platter but skip the fries and do all salad. VERY good! One night I was in the mood for something different and I saw "Mantoo" on the menu. There was no description, but it looked amazeballs so I tried it. OMG, people! Please try this amazing dish. I have them add a bit more spice to it but it's fantastic either way. It's now my go-to meal there and I get cravings for it often. YEAAAHHH! ps. To the guy who said they only serve fries and onion rings as sides: We get the spinach every time we go and it's amazing. It was all served over a bed of aromatic rices and fresh onion. The star of the show was the Banjan Borani appetizer. Wow! I hate that this place is so far away from me, but when I'm in that area it's my go to place. Everything I've ever had there is delicious. Everything is fresh and well prepared. All their kabobs are great, but I truly love their eggplant. It was made differently than other places I had that just add way too much oil. We've lived near the place for many years but never thought to stop in until today and I wish we had gone in sooner. I had the chicken kabob and my wife had the beef and chicken combo. They were both terrific. The meat was tender and juicy with the right amount of seasoning. The rice and naan were very good as well. We'll be back for sure. read more

Decent food, bad service. Had business in Ashburn and came here because of the great Yelp reviews and because I really like Afghan. The food was pretty good, but the poor service was really disappointing. Popped inside and ordered two kabob sandwiches to go and was told that I would need to wait 20 minutes. I was preparing to wait around by an empty table but the server--even though there are no specific COVID-related guidelines on their website, on Yelp, or in the store--asked me to wait in my car and she would bring my order out to me. It was a little surprising, but I tell her the make/color of my car and that it is two cars behind the front row. I wait. And wait. And wait some more. I give them some extra time because it was lunchtime and wait 35 minutes before calling them. An employee--possibly not the same one--picks up and confirms that my order is ready. Judging by her reactions, I'm certain that t's been sitting there for a while, as if they had forgotten their promise to drop it off by my car. I'm annoyed at this point and because I don't feel like doing another round of mask-donning and hand-sanitizing in my car, inform her that they were supposed to bring it out to my car. She agrees, and I once again remind her of my car's make/color and that it's two cars behind the front row. Someone from the restaurant comes out holding a bag, does a four-step loop in front of the door, and decides that she does not see my car and immediately heads back inside. I give them another two minutes in case they're calling me to flag down my car. Nothing coming, I annoyedly stride inside to the store, where the original employee explained they couldn't find my car. I'm not sure if she apologized for not remembering that she said she would drop off my order at my car (but didn't), or that they didn't go beyond the bare minimum of looking for my car even though I gave them clear descriptions of my car's make/color/location. I don't think she did. At that point, I was too annoyed to care at that point and threw up my hands, took my food, and walked right out. There were also more diners sitting inside this time, so I don't know why I couldn't have waited inside originally and avoided this problem. The kabob in the sandwich is pretty good. They have aushak which I almost always order at Afghan places and would've next time. But there won't be a next time. read more

To ownership, I ordered a lamb combo with chicken. I got sick with horrible stomach pain and heart burn for 3 days and my entire body itches. Had to go to the ER and they prescribed antibiotics. When we arrived it was fairly crowded but, they flip the tables quickly and clean it all up. The food was standard at best, the chapli kabob was fresh and pretty tasty, not spicy like it said on the menu though. The combo platter had nicely cooked chicken and lamb. Both plates came with fresh salad (the freshest I've seen around), naan (slightly over cooked but, still okay), and rice. The rice was okay, it didn't have much flavor and that was kind of a disappointment, it was still delicious though. You could choose a side as well, I went with spinach and my husband went with the chickpeas. I thought the spinach was a little too watered down and it was soupy in a sense and my husband enjoyed the chickpeas because they weren't over cooked. The side sauces were also very good! I really wanted to like this place, as I am always in search of a great kabob place. Unfortunately, this was not that place. My first surprise was the lack of authentic side dishes. I am looking for haleem, lentils, chick peas, spinach, think of that ilk. Not at this place, they have American sides such as fries, onion rings curly fries, etc. No, if I wanted that I would have gone to a burger joint. When I asked if they had any real sides, the person that took my order asked for an example, so I said like haleem, she did not even know what it was. Sad, so sad. I will give credit where credit is due, the brown rice was nice, my kofte kabob was tasty, but only a single skewer of meat for $11! No sides included with the meal except a salad. The salad was probably the best salad that I have had at a Kabob place. The naan bread made me want to cry, it was so dry, tasteless and brittle. This clearly is not naan cooked in a stone oven like other places. Honestly this was the biggest letdown, I could do better buying pita bread at the grocery store. The food is overpriced for what you get, at Charcoal Kabob you get two skewers of meat, fantastic freshly cooked naan, some cooked veggies, rice, salad, and the authentic side dish of your choice, for the same price. I really wanted this place to be a star, but it looks like I will just drive another few miles and keep going to Charcoal Kabob. Ashburn Kabob is decent, but has a long way to go, I would suggest starting with real naan bread and sides a bit more exotic than French fries. I give it two stars because I liked the taste of the rice and my single skewer of kabob. I may try it again, but actually I probably will not, it was a big letdown. read more

This was one the best meals I have had this year. Have you ever had a meal where you felt like you were walking on air after eating? That was this meal. I had a combo kabob, with chicken and lamb over salad, in place of rice, since I was in keto mode. It was perfectly seasoned, not to salty. They were very friendly and accommodating. The sauces are delicious and the meats tender. I ate at the restaurant. Service was prompt. The decor is not great, but they are mostly a carryout joint. It is comfortable enough. I took some baklava to go, which was good but not great, although I ate that two days later, to be fair. I cannot wait to eat there again. They have made it into my weekly rotation. Horrible. Maybe because we didn't eat at the restaurant and had delivery via Uber Eats, but the quality of our food was very, very poor. That the management would allow it to leave the kitchen and their establishment to be consumed by anyone is speaking to their lack of care. The naan was obviously reheated in an oven making most of it crispy and inedible. The lamb was not freshly cooked and obviously reheated as well, mealy and massively overcooked. The chicken was hard and extremely dry and it went into the trash as it was completely inedible. Overall a complete waste of money and a huge disappointment considering the other reviews. read more

Update 4/6/18 Ever since this place went under new management, I can't stop coming here. Their food and service is top notch! Highly recommend getting the combo for 2 which is a bit of everything. Best kabob spot in Ashburn! I was pretty happy and surprised to see a new Kabob establishment in Ashburn as we could definitely use more of them. As I came in I noticed that this isn't a very authentic one that serves chick peas, lentils, spinach, other side dishes that I am accustomed to. I just moved here so I am looking for a place like Dulles Kabob, Kabob Express, Charcoal Kabob. I have to say, It is frustrating that you have to pay $.50 for sauce. Many of the other great places do not charge for it and it definitely makes me want to come back. The food was okay. We got the jojeh and kofta kabob. It came with rice, salad, and naan. The naan taste like it was store bought and was frozen that they attempted to bake. This is definitely not the fresh naan you get at the other places. The bone-in chicken that I got was more bone than chicken. Can't believe they skimped on the chicken to bone ratio. I'd suggest you go to one of the other places I mentioned as they are worth the drive. Wish this place well but I doubt I'd be back. read more

Absolutely delicious Ashok! I'm from an area with the most amazing Afghan restaurants, so was a bit wary of the quality of food here. I was very surprised. The ground beef kabobs were a bit dry but the Ashok was one of the best I have ever tasted. It was amazing and perfectly spiced. This place was my go to for a long time. It is like a soul food with rice with chickpeas... nicely grilled chicken was my go to protein. Lamb is tough and dry but other meat seemed ok. Oh and yes... the bread is very good. However the consistency is lacking. Some days are five star but some days are two star in terms of food. I had ups and downs with this place. If you think putting yourself in a food coma for a great price isn't for you then get a salad I guess.... Aside from the great portions the food a delicious. My go to kabob place! I always order combo for two and share with the wife and have leftovers. The portions are HUGE and def worth every penny. There offer variety of meats with two different kinds of delicious rice. One bad part is that they charge you .75 cents for extra sauce but besides that Highly recommend you give them a try! I just moved out to Ashburn from Herndon. I compare every Kabob place to what I consider the gold standard: Charcoal Kabob in Herndon. (Just as a point of reference) This was first time eating here. The yogurt sauce tasted like it was made with mayonnaise instead of yogurt, which was gross. The chick peas were cooked in what tasted like tomato sauce. Not sure where the owners are from, but I prefer the more buttery and spicy Afghan version found at the place in Herndon. Wasn't a fan. The grilled chicken kabobs were solid. I arrived at Ashburn Kabob at 6:40pm; gave my name and picked up my order. AMAZING!! So fresh and delicious! Great portion of food; I'm glad I didn't order a naan bread - it came with one anyway, along with two sauces - a white creamy herby sauce and a green spicy sauce. Both added great flavour to the kebab and salad. The naan was freshly made too, straight out of the Tandoor and it was a pleasant surprise. These guys are awesome. Fast service and friendly staff.
