I had some coins I wanted to sell and had been going to another coin dealer for years, where I had to work with a different person each time, which I didn't like. After some internet searching I came across Midwest Coin and Collectibles. I took my coins to get a free evaluation at their location in Highland Park, which was clean and well organized. The entire process took about 20 minutes between the sorting, evaluation, offer process and sale. They paid me a little more than my old coin dealer usually did, and the best part was when I called 2 weeks later with some questions. The owner actually remembered me! I worked with him again when I came in the next time. The second time I brought them a variety of foreign coins, some US Mint proof sets and mint sets, 1 graded coin and some gold jewelry. They paid a fair price and took the time to test a bunch of jewelry, some ended up not being gold and some was gold (which I almost threw out in the garbage). Sure glad I brought in all the jewelry and they tested it. I got a couple more hundred dollars from the extra jewelry that turned out to be gold. I really like the time and care they take to evaluate coins and test jewelry, free quotes, the fair prices I received, and dealing with the same person every time. I heard about Asher's Quality Coin and Gold through a very good friend. Before this i had been to a sorta posh huge place on US 19 and sad to say they tried to rip me off. I had an idea as to what I would get but was shocked when I heard what they were willing to give me. The young woman said my heavy bracelet was 14 karat. I knew that was a lie because my husband told me it was 18. The day after I was taken to Asher and it was a fantastic experience. Honest and straightforward. I inherited some old US and foreign coins and jewelry I wanted to sell. I called around and Midwest Coin and Collectibles was the most professional and provided the highest phone quote. Most of the coins were worn down and only worth the silver value but they sorted them all, explained the whole process, and a few ended up being sort of rare and paid me a lot more on those. They tested all of the jewelry in front of me to verify if it was gold or silver or not, which was really interesting to learn and see how it is done. I have dealt with Quality Coin and Gold for a while and the negative reviews are crazy to me. I accidentally bought a mistake or typo on their website and I was refunded quickly. When I have brought stuff in to sell, the owner has always explained his offer when I asked and didn't agree with it. He has always been polite and patient. I wonder what kind of "collectibles" big shot reviewer John H brought in. Beanie babies? Maybe collector plates? I would bet that $273 was a fair offer. This was my first business with Asher's Quality Coin and Gold. Asher and his Assistants were helpful and I learned a few things about coins. There was a pretty good selection for what I was looking for and I was able to find the coins I wanted. Prices are much higher now, but seemed to be reasonable compared to spot. I did have to wait to make my purchase since Asher was busy with other customers and had to come back for a second purchase.
