Had heard a lot of good things about this local chain and it seemed like a good fit for me as I recover from some kind of nasty crud -- lots of easy on the stomach, healthy options. For anyone who may not have heard, this place reminds me of similar smaller scale chains like Chicken Salad Chick or even a little bit like Urban Cookhouse. If I had to compare it to a larger chain, I'd say it's kind of like Panera. The biggest difference I'd say is the presence of a very large cooler with grab and go/take and bake type of meals. Definitely seems like a nice service. This location was larger than I expected it to be. Outdoor parking was a little crazy around noon on a Thursday, but I managed to find a spot inside a nearby underground parking garage and the walk over wasn't bad. They were moderately busy but there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Two cashiers were waiting for me to order at the counter. There's also a shelf where carryout orders are left for pickup. Oh, and I stopped in the bathroom before I left and found it tidy. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I quickly scanned the menu and decided on the lemon rosemary chicken. It comes with rice, a sour cream biscuit, and your choice of a side. My stomach was feeling a little on the fritz so I chose a fruit cup to keep it extra light. Service was polite and efficient, which is all you can really ask for. I thought the price was a touch high, especially when I saw what I wound up getting: almost $16, and that's before tip (and yes, they use the tablets that automatically prompt you to tip -- I don't mind tipping for the sake of the worker but I wish we as a society would just pay workers living wages rather than relying on tips, especially when there's not really much "table service" even going on!). The food was okay. I was bummed to see they serve Red Diamond tea; it's not a favorite of mine at all, although I suppose it's local so it makes sense. The chicken was probably the best part, in the sense that it was actually cooked perfectly. Still tender and juicy! I didn't get much rosemary, though; the lemon and feta overwhelmed it and some bites were quite salty and/or acidic. The rice was also cooked well, not too mushy nor undercooked. The fruit cup was...fine. About one strawberry cut in halves, two apple pieces, a very small handful of grapes, and the rest of it oranges, which are not my favorite. Probably on me for ordering it, as I don't tend to think fruit cups are worth it when dining out, but I was trying to cater to my tummy. If I return, I'd get something different. The sour cream biscuit made me sad, lol. When I hear biscuit I think of a bread item at least the size of my palm. This was smaller than even a miniature muffin like you'd get in a snack pack for kids. It was about the size of the half of a strawberry in my fruit cup. It was tasty! But very small. :( Maybe "drop biscuit" would've given me slightly more realistic expectations, haha. Overall, this restaurant chain may fit the bill if you're looking for something fairly healthy, quick, fresh, and unobjectionable, or if you're looking to find an easy dinner to take home! If I return I hope to come back feeling more robust and ready to try something new like the poppyseed chicken. :) read more

My friend and I stopped in for lunch on a Friday. It wasn't too busy at all and there was plenty of seating available. The person working the cashier was so nice and helpful with the menu. I ordered the pimento cheese blt with an additional bread on the side and my friend ordered the poppyseed chicken. The sandwich was mediocre. I feel like it was lacking flavor but it was a large portion. I think next time I can do without the bread. It is sour cream based so I wasn't sure how I really felt about the texture. I always have a good experience when I visit Ashley Mac's. They are taking serious precautions for COVID-19, which is great and especially important during this time. I frequent this place a lot. I have to say that my two favorite items are the Andy Mac burger and the poppyseed chicken entree. I have purchased the poppyseed chicken entree to eat there and I have also picked up the frozen dish to take home and heat later. It is absolutely divine. The Andy Mac burger is easily one of my favorite burgers. I would recommend getting the sauce on the side though. Sometimes, there can be a lot piled on there. But if you like a lot of sauce, then no worries. Everything about this burger is amazing. It is not on the menu everyday. So go on a Friday and you can enjoy this amazing burger! Let's talk about their desserts! I truly enjoy their cupcakes and their strawberry cake. Their cake slices are truly feeling and I feel like the icing is perfect. It's not bogged down with icing, which is a plus for me. I encourage you to drop in for a visit! They are great for dine in or pick up. Ordered the Friday special online . Ordering was quick & easy! The Andy Mac burger is absolutely delicious and so worth every penny! Good to the last bite - it's only available on Fridays for now but it's certainly worth the wait. This is easily the best thing on the menu to me!! With the online ordering, I was able to pick up right at the front door . No contact at all ... it was great! They are serving guests inside the restaurant at this time as well. We were trying to get some cake, to-go. Seems like they kinda ignore you, service-wise. Not a good look in my opinion. When we were finally acknowledged, we did manage to score a very tasty, but way too sweet, slice of strawberry cake from here. I'm talking diabetes sweet... way too sweet. read more

First time at this location. I decided to try the seasonal Turkey Cranberry Melt with German Pasta Salad instead my usual Pimento BLT upon recommendation from the cashier. I was not disappointed in the least. I did substitute Bibb lettuce for the Spring Mix just because of personal preference. The pasta salad was great as usual (based on experience at other location). This was the first time I visited Ashley Mac's in Homewood. I had visited one of the other locations years before. Initially what had impressed me was the size of the place. There was plenty of room for groups and for customers to spread out. This was a nice change from a lot of restaurants that force customers to be packed in. In these situations, you can barely push your chair out and you feel like you are in a conversation with strangers next to you. The other item that influenced my 5-star rating was the giant freezer that had lots of frozen to-go meals ready and waiting. This would be perfect if you were short on time or looking for food for a party. The day I went, I met my sister for lunch and ordered the Baby Bleu salad. It was just the right size and delicious with strawberries, mandarin oranges, and sugared almonds. I'm not a fan of poppyseed dressing, but they gladly switched it out for another type. Also, I had heard amazing things about the strawberry cake! I guessed I justified it after sticking with a salad for lunch. The slice was huge and the icing was very rich. I could not eat it all in one sitting, but there was a "go box" so I saved the rest for lunch the next day. My only complaint was the slice was pulled from the refrigerator so it was cold. I wish that it had been warm, but this is just a minor point. I definitely will go back! read more

We've lived here for 5 years and we have tried Ashley Mac's a handful of times. I'm just trying to figure out what the big buzz is about it. The locations are always clean and staff is always friendly. I simply find the food to be very plain and boring. They're know for the poppyseed chicken. I purchased a few frozen meals for my family and a friend and it was such a let down. There was far more plain bland sauce than anything else. We had to hunt for the pieces of chicken. Plenty of poppy seeds and a cracker topping, but that was it. Time to open the spice cabinet and doctor it up! It was a hard meal to swallow given that the smallest serving is $15.50 for basically sauce. The salads are good and we did enjoy the chicken spinach and artichoke frozen dish. Chicken salad has a honey mustard base so it was a bit different than the standard. When they serve their poppyseed chicken or rosemary chicken it comes with rice. The rice is sickly plain. Like the kind that comes out of those instant boil rice packs. Cool with flavor!! You're already cooking chicken, put that good broth to use to flavor your dishes. The strawberry cake and cupcakes are good, but it's still just a hum on my radar, and I adore strawberry cake. I just don't have this place as a "must eat" on my list. read more

This is one of my favorites for lunch. The pick 2 for $10 is a good lunch deal. My favorite combo is the pimento BLT without bacon and the broccoli slaw. The candied almonds they add to the slaw salad are delicious. The pimento cheese is as close to homemade as I've had in years! The desserts are good too! This place never disappoints me. I have yet to have a bad meal. This is becoming a problem for my wallet. The salad trio is the best option if you aren't sure what you want and want to try several things. I get two servings of the baby blue and a serving of chicken salad which is the right combination of ingredients to not have you feeling uncomfortably stuffed. Their cake is good too, my recommendation would be to let It thaw out from the fridge. The Caramel cake fell apart terribly when we attempted to eat it in the store-- wastes $6. read more

Actually we were at an event close by and as we were walking to our cars noticed this Ashley Mac and thought we would go in and check it out. It was getting kind of late and they were obviously winding down. Not many people were there eating. Also, didn't look at the menu, so not exactly sure what all they offered. Really the reason we came in here was to check out the entire wall display of refrigerated pre-made food to basically take and bake. Really huge selection, even though it was obvious they had been picked over through out the course of the day. Tons of really good looking dishes from pastas to veggies, dips to soups, desserts to apps. Really something for every taste. See pics and display names for complete list of things you can get. I have eaten at another Ashley Mac's location a couple times before, but this was my first time eating at the Homewood location. The interior is huge with no shortage of tables. We arrived close to 1pm on a Saturday and the place was fairly busy. My husband ordered the Bistro Steak sandwich and I got the Pimento cheese sandwich. We both ordered mac and cheese for a side. The portions were surprisingly large! The sandwiches were both huge and the mac and cheese side was substantial. Both of us agreed we could have eaten half of everything and been very satisfied, but opted to engorge and eat everything. Everything was delicious and I think the macaroni is some of the best. This is a perfect lunch spot and would be a great place to bring kids. We are officially Ashley Mac converts and will be back!! read more

Not sure what I was expecting from a Cafe that had a burger on the menu but I decided to try it based on previous reviews. Ultimate disappointment. Even though it's only served on the weekend you would think that more effort world be put into this dish. Clearly they are reheating prepackaged patties under a broiler and adding cheese. Tasted like a cross between a Burger King pattie with McDonald's Big Mac sauce. They should change from serving it 2 days a week to 0 days. It's a special menu item yet lacks the special. read more

Great food, smiling faces and reasonable pricing! We showed up for the grand opening at Ashley Mac's new Homewood location and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and our food came out really fast. The space is open and inviting. The only down side I see is there isn't much available parking outside. This is a welcome addition to the other restaurants in their lineup. They have pre made meals and catering too, so you really have no excuse to drop by and grab a bite! Enjoy! read more

I was in the homewood area and had a sweet tooth so I stop in. Upon entering the restaurant I notice a freezer to my left and it held to go meals that you can purchase if you running short on time and can't prepare a meal. They also have chicken in small tubs which is great for a picnic or a gathering with family or friends. The staff was cheerful and heplful my order. I ordered a slice of Strawberry cake. My wife and I had a very enjoyable meal here. I had the chicken salad melt sandwich, and my wife had the chicken salad sandwich. Both were very good. The highlight of the meal for both of us, however, was the broccoli slaw. It was outstanding, and I am not a fan of broccoli! I love Ashley Mac's! One of my friends has been asking me to try it with her for years now. It just never seemed appealing to me until this summer we went and I fell in love. Not only do they have a fridge full of different desserts and dishes you can buy but they also have amazing food items on the menu! My friend is obsessed with the poppyseed chicken (essentially just chicken casserole) and this is what I got my first time at Ashley Mac's so I can agree with her. However, I have shifted to the Grilled Chicken BLT sandwich that is just so delicious! I also love the BLT salad (sounds weird but so good). Overall they never disappoint and if you have not been here I defiantly suggest giving it a try! They have spaced out their seating and blocked off tables due to the covid restrictions. Their chicken salad is good & chunky without being "mayonnaisey" (we all know what I mean). Their fruit is always fresh as well! Today I tried something new, their Turkey Havarti Apple sandwich on wheat. Holy cow amazing! I assumed it would be a cold sandwich but it was warm, toasted and a mouth full of flavors! I couldn't be bothered to stop eating it before snapping a picture it was that good I paired it with their greek pasta salad which was ok (I was expecting tangier but it's still good!).
