The first time we ate at a Roly Poly franchise was in Seaside, Florida in the early 2000s while on vacation. While none of them have tasted quite as good since then (something about working up an appetite on the beach?), we still really enjoy a rare opportunity to eat at one. I knew we would be ready for lunch after a morning at a local museum, so I had researched possible venues earlier that morning. I showed my wife a short list and she immediately gravitated to Roly Poly. That would have been my first choice too. This one (the last one remaining in Birmingham, apparently) is in the Homewood neighborhood / area. It is located on a busy street with shops and plazas lining both sides. These look like they were built no later than 1950 but have evolved and been renovated as new tenants cycled through. We did angled parking on the street out front, but there may be better / easier parking on surrounding side streets. The only issue we had was backing out into traffic when we left; it took a few minutes for a gap. You enter and order at the counter. They have menus available there for you to check out. They have a rack of chips available, plus maybe other sides? I didn't look beyond the chips. You then sit down and wait for your order. I guess they have call-ahead too. Seating is along the wall to the right as you enter. There is a long bench the length of the wall with separate 4-person tables spaced along it, with 2 additional chairs each. Our order seemed to take a while, but it may have just been what we ordered (hot sandwich) versus other simpler orders getting filled faster. I got the French Twist, which is my favorite. I only got a regular and not a large, but I think I could have finished a large. My wife got something else, chicken-based I think. We both enjoyed this a lot. If I lived in the area, I'd probably stop in here semi-regularly. read more

Chicken pesto roll was great and honestly had a hard time choosing because it all sounded so good. I will definitely be back. Service was quick and they brought the food to us at our table after we ordered at the counter. Only gave 4 stars because it's a tad pricey for what you get. The storefront and dining area was spotless and I was greeted time I hit the door. I browsed the cookies because they looked super fresh and they were nice and soft. I ordered the hot honey roll and some chips, my meal was tasty as usual! It was a little rainy outside, so the place wasn't packed but I enjoyed the quiet, chill vibe. Not much to say other than everything is good. I've been eating Roly Poly for over 24 years and it's still one of my favorite things to get for lunch. You can get a relatively healthy meal for a reasonable price. Also, the Homewood location is my home RP spot now as the staff is super nice. It's very clean and if the weather is nice, you can sit outside. Like all my other reviews, I'm telling you to just go. And be sure to tip the staff. They truly deserve it. read more

Sorry to see, though, that a couple locations closer to me have closed. This location is in a pretty busy area, and if you go at lunch, it can be pretty difficult to find parking. Seating has been reduced to allow for social distancing, but it looked like a lot of orders were to-go anyway. read more

When my kids were younger, we went to the Roly Poly in Vestavia all the time. It was one of their favorite places and I liked it because it was a healthier option than alot of places. My family was super sad when they went out of business. The one in Patton Creek was still open but it is was a farther drive for us, so we rarely went. My son now works in Homewood and told me that they now have a Roly Poly in Homewood. We decided to go together for old times sake, and it still is the amazing place that it was. I talked with the owner and told him that we had visited the Vestavia store for years and low and behold it was the same owner that had owned the Vestavia store. I am so glad! When you visit, I recommend the Nut and Honey. It is my favorite sandwich that they make. I do wish they would add the raisins back rather than the cranraisins, but this is small compared to the whole experience. Also, get the whole sandwich rather than the half because you can save the rest for lunch the next day. Also one other tip, you may have to wait a few minutes for your sandwich but remember they are making it fresh. read more

Came here for lunch. Got the chicken pesto pressed wrap and the chicken enchilada soup on the side. Both items were good. The soup was warm and creamy with good taste.
