I am really grateful for Ashmont. My cleaners for almost a decade recently closed and I was looking for a new place to patronize. I decided to try Ashmont Cleaners because they open at 7 and are down the street from my gym. I have used them three times in the last few weeks, getting suits, dress shirts and an overcoat cleaned and have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of cleaning, the reasonable pricing and the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. I am so thankful for Ashmont Cleaners! The staff is helpful and kind. I dropped off a blouse to get cleaned and forgot that I had a tear in the sleeve - they fixed it without me even asking (thank you!). The seamstress also fitted me for two bridesmaid's dresses which fit perfectly. The seamstress also repaired my Longchamp bag within a matter of minutes without having to wait. Disappointing experience. I went here based on previous reviews here and was surprised how poor a job they did. Take in the waist and hem with cuffs a pair of pants. The pants are too long and the waist was hardly adjusted -- and the price was higher than I have paid elsewhere -- at least at cleaners who provide tailoring services. I have been back twice to have the work redone -- 1st revisit they were closed with no phone or web message stating they were on vacation. They had a small sign in the window -- no other way to know that they were closed. I returned when they were back open & the tailor is still on holiday! Will repost here after the alterations are redone, but so far this is not a place I would suggest to someone looking for good quality work with good customer service! read more

Fantastic service! If you have ever hunted season after season, for the perfect, warm, long, down coat that doesn't look like you're wearing a sleeping bag, then you will understand how I felt when the zipper failed in mine. I was more than willing to shell out a fair price for a complete zipper replacement at Ashmont. The talented seamstress was at lunch, the owner took a look at my zipper and repaired it in seconds with needle nose pliers. Oh my goodness! No charge! I AM a regular customer, but it's not like I'm there every week. I love this place! Ashmont has fair prices, my clothes are always nicely cleaned. I don't live in West Roxbury any more but I still bring my clothes to Ashmont. I've been going there as long as I can remember. Service is fast, alterations are done better than you'd find just about anywhere, and the prices are amazingly reasonable. Andrew and his family handle a wide variety of items, from tablecloths to fine wollens, to the vintage items needing special care. I have an antique overcoat that requires special care and they're the only ones I'd trust to handle it. Listen, if they can't get the tough stains out, no one can! Ashmont might be a bit out of the way but they're worth it. read more

I finally found the golden ticket of dry cleaners. Parking is tough since it is on busy centre street. Best times to pickup and drop off are from opening-9am and right before 2pm before the 2 schools on centre street clear out. They are so friendly and they don't make you feel like an outsider if you are a newbie when you come in. For 3 dresses, 3 shirts it came to $55. A tad bit high than other places that I have gone to but I don't have to worry about missing buttons, chemical smelling clothes, or awkward looking pressing. None of that so far. Have to update my review on tailoring since I am in the between too being too tall for Short pants but to short for Regular pants. read more

Not only is Ashmont Cleaners wonderful with their excellent one-day drycleaning and laundry service, their seamstress ,Helen, is amazing. I have been bringing her clothes that needed to be repaired--shortened, lengthened, taken in, let out. No matter what you require of her, she is able to take care of it quickly and perfectly, This time, I brought her my dress for my niece's wedding. It had to be taken in and shortened. She pretty much had to take the whole dress apart to do the tricky alterations. It came out fantastically perfect. She is so good, I have brought her my nieces' prom gowns. Won't be going to this place again - tried a couple of times as this is close to my home. That's it... they managed to damage three items - one to a degree that it is completely ruined and unwearable! The first thing I noticed is that a dress I had delivered for cleaning (a dress with cowlneck and a little weight hanging down the neckline on the inside to keep it in place) just didn't look right on me. I started examining the dress - realized that the little pouch the weight is in had been cut, not ripped but clearly cut with scissors, and the weight removed. I actually mentioned this to the drycleaning folks but they didn't know anything about it. I was able to fix it on my own so I didn't think too much of it. Then, a few days later, I noticed that a top that I also had taken to Ashmont cleaners, one that I often wear to work, was completely ruined - misshaped to a degree that it actually fell off off my shoulders when I put it on. I tossed it, all stretch gone, entirely unwearable. I have no idea how they managed to ruin the shirt. Third, another top taken to this place had some loss of stretchiness as well, so it can't be worn to work anymore, as it looks sloppy (still wearable) - I'll instead use it at home for slouching in. I find this extremely strange - seriously? Three items ruined in two trips (out of several items delivered each time)? I have gone for years to other business without incidents of this sort. I can't say enough about Ashmont Cleaners. It is a family run business that has great customer service, provides high quality cleaning, and gets your laundry back to you quickly. The coupons they offer online are a nice bonus and take some of the sting out of big dry cleaning orders. They also have onsite tailoring that help out with almost any tailor need. They put on new buttons if your clothes lose one for free. I had to fix the zipper on my daughter's coat. I was getting quotes of 30-40 dollars from places. They fixed it for under 5 dollars and they did it in less than 5 minutes. read more

Do NOT get anything tailored here. My sister brought her $300 bridesmaid's dress to be hemmed, but the seamstress also said she'd "let the back out." Look at the photos of the work she did! Words cannot describe the shoddy work that was done. Unfortunately, our horrible experience didn't stop there. The seamstress was incredibly rude and would not admit to the terrible work done to the dress. She kept saying she altered it because it didn't fit my sister correctly, and when my sister said that that's not what they had agreed to do, it erupted into a real argument in front of other customers. She wouldn't refund us the money, and when we said that we would never come back and would refer people elsewhere, she said "See if I care." The other employees weren't very helpful either; the girl behind the desk kept pushing us off, but at least the older gentleman there finally told us to call the owner. Even the owner was embarrassed for how we were treated by his employees, but it took almost a week to refund the money. We took the dress to another tailor in West Roxbury who looked at the work on the dress with wide eyes and couldn't believe that anyone would do that kind of work. One silver lining: another girl walked in with a dress to be hemmed while we were there and I told her not to let them touch her dress. We saw her at the next tailor shop we went to. At least we saved her dress from being butchered too! read more

The people are nice but If they find a pocket square in a suit they will likely will throw it out. I took in my grandfather's linen monogrammed handkerchief as a separate item. I went to pick it up and they had tossed it. They said it "It just happens. Do you want us to look in the dumpster? Handkerchiefs often are discarded." They offered a replacement. But there is no replacement for a family heirloom. They are nice but be warned. read more

I just had a bridesmaid dress altered at Ashmont and they did a nice job and the price was great. I would definitely recommend taking your next bridesmaid dress here for alterations instead of spending hundreds at the bridal salons. read more
