I've been coming to Asia Tailor for the last 10 years or so - I mean, my check ins should be at least 25 by now!! Being 5'2", I usually need to get my pants/jeans hemmed up and other minor alterations to dresses, blouses, etc. They do everything! My sister had her wedding dress hemmed up there, and after the wedding, she had them make it into a top! Granted, she didn't have the typical wedding gown, but they did a great job!! The shop is in the Wong's Drapery building, very simple - no frills. It's pretty much run by husband & wife, only once did I see someone else working there, but all the other times it's just them two. They're super nice & we always talk about trips that we've taken recently (since that's when I come in with most of my clothes that need to be altered: after a big shopping trip to the mainland!!) As for the other reviewer saying that her clothes came back smelling like smoke, I've never experienced that before. read more

To date, I have yet to experience amazing tailoring service..well except an in-house tailor at BCBG in Canada but that's a different story. Being 5 3" and somewhat on the lighter side (definitely NOT model thin), I ordered a really cute dress online and only to find that it's too big for me, especially in the chest area since I"m pretty flat.haha. So I went there and the lady is pretty nice, it's definitely not a fancy place but it's a tailor, not a bar/restaurant so I can careless. The lady was friendly and gave some pretty good advice and suggestions. The price was reasonable. And the fit, OK, but not amazing. I think I"m still too flat to hold up the strapless dress that it is so I'm still having to constantly pull up the dress to avoid showing my "girls"..lol! Perhaps I'm just not meant to wear strapless dresses as I can see them doing a pretty good job on someone else. Perhaps I'll get other types of garment tailored there next time and revise my review if appropriate. BTW, I'm getting 2 dresses that are way big from ROSS and having them tailored at Linda Fujioka's Alterations. Getting them back by Tuesday..keeping my fingers crossedX read more

They are "DA BEST" on the island. I've tried numerous tailor shops and finally found one that I'm satisfied with. Believe me, I am one of the hardest people to please so when I say they are good, they truly are. I had couple of my pants hemmed and also had my wedding dress altered and they did a phenomenal job. I've sent friends there and they were pleased with the alterations done on their clothes. Many of us have a hard time fitting in clothing 100% so we rely on these tailors to make it fit 100% and these guys do the job just right. Hmmm, as far as my clothing smelling like smoke as the other review mentioned, I didn't smell any smoke on my clothing. Funny thing is that was what I was afraid of before checking these guys out because I can't stand the smell of smoke. So I went in with one pair of pants just to test them out and it was fine. Another thing is that I asked them if they were aware of customers complaining their garment smells like smoke after taking it to them and they said "no, how can that be? We are not smokers". So maybe the person who made the comment about smoke was smelling their upper lip. lol read more

I've got to give this couple 5 stars because they saved my bacon. I bought a nice used classic Brooks Brothers tux. Good quality. Mint condition. It didn't fit too well, but the basic size was OK. I took it to an 'alterations' place that shall remain nameless. Results were not quite right. Trousers were baggy. Back of jacket not quite right. Lesson: Never take your suit to an 'alterations' place. Use a tailor who knows how to make suits. (Oh, and in response to Amber W, there are NOT many true tailors in Honolulu. A lady with a sewing machine is not a tailor. And it didn't smell like smoke. And if it did, you should still use a real tailor.) Oh, yeah, back to the tux ... I was desperate. With one day to go before a big trip, I called Asia Tailor and they agreed to fix the baggy pants. Then when I was there they agreed to fix the coat. I came in at 10am. Picked it up at 6:30 pm. Mr. Lee worked all day on it for $120. He did more than was agreed. He replaced bad shoulder padding. He fixed the upper back. He must have taken off the sleeves. "No short cuts" he said when I told him that what he did was much nicer than the other place. I will be back to them, but with better timing. read more

Having read the previous review, I felt Asia tailor would be the place to take my new camel hair jacket 8 weeks ago. It was not. Ended up taking my jacket in the 2nd to the last week of Sept. All I needed was the sides to be taken in since the jacket was a bit boxy. Met with the owner, Ron, who seemed to be a "straight-shooter" as I noted in my diary. He said he could do the job and asked if I was in a rush to get it back. Figuring it is not that hard to take in the sides, I told him to take his time, but as long as I got it by November, it should be cool. He wrote me up a slip with "will call" written on the "pick up" line. And thus began my wait... At 2 weeks I wondered if he had started it, but figured, since he had an award from the Honolulu Advertiser placed next to the threshold of his shop that he knew what he was doing. As he said before I left that first day, "he could really take his time on it," which I assumed, meant that he could really do a good job -- and who doesn't want that? Sacrificing time for quality is no big deal, I felt. 3 weeks passed. Then 4. Then 5. At week 6 I called him and asked if he had worked on my jacket. I was quickly rebuffed by a "Who's this?" I went on to explain when I dropped off my jacket and who I was and was told, in less than a minute, that he was still working on it and that it might be ready next week. Then he hung up, no goodbye, no fielding any questions or concerns. Just slam. I waited out week 6. And week 7. Still not a peep. On Monday of week 8, literally 8 weeks to the day I dropped off the coat, I went down and asked for my jacket. He didn't remember which one it was, but when I described it to him, he said that he hadn't started working on it yet and that he could probably have it done in 1 week. By this point I had had it and said I was going to take it someplace else. So what does he do? He fishes out from under a pile of other jackets ready to be tailored, removes the nice wooden hanger it was on and looks down at a motley collection of hangers on this giant wooden rack he has in his shop. Out of all the hangers, he chooses the most busted ass one you've ever seen: cheap, thin, off-white, something you'd get from the children's dept. at K-Mart! Ended up telling him I didn't need a hanger, so what did he do? Handing my jacket back? That'd be logical and civil, right? Nope. He ended up folding up my jacket and then folding it over with his hand. (Imagine folding your jacket over, horizontally, forming a crease you don't want formed.) Overall, a nightmare of an experience. Go someplace else! read more

I thought this place was going to be great, they agreed to do a special rush order for us and had it available the next day. They even let us pick it up on a day they were closed. But our order was mixed, two pieces for rush and one more without the extra rush fee, to be picked up when we returned from our trip. I paid for all three the day we dropped them off. I kept my claim ticket, which indicated the amount I paid. So I finally went today to pick up the remaining piece, and they told me I still had to pay for it. I tried to explain that I already had paid, showed them the ticket, and the guy started getting impatient with me immediately; he wasn't having any of it. I could see that I would just have to take the loss if I wanted him to give me the blazer back, so I forked over the $60. Make sure you get your proof of purchase in triplicate. Or better yet go somewhere else. read more
