The woman is very nice and i can tell she tries. However, it was challenging to communicate with her due to a language difference. I had her alter two pieces for me and since I didn't speak Chinese I couldn't specify what I needed done. I picked up my pieces and they were still too big. I asked her to redo one of the pieces (because I felt bad asking her to alter both again). When I picked up the redo it still didn't fit. I tried to communicate that with her but wasn't able to after several attempts. Unfortunately, I left with pieces that were not altered well. The alterations was a total of $70 for two pieces that were which were $80 each. Total loss for me was $230 because I ended up just donating the clothes she tried to alter. All in all, I guess the good thing is that the woman got paid and, maybe, that made her happy even though I was a dissatisfied customer. read more

Need alterations? Look no further. Li's sewing service is located on Kapahulu and will do just that. I've been here multiple times to alter a few of my pants. I'm a short girl so this happens quite often. The lady that works there is very kind. Just show and tell her what you need to be done and she'll do it. She even makes sure it's the right length you want hem on your pants. So makes you try it on and everything. She's really awesome. Also, she can add pockets to T-shirts. My bf had 10+ shirts that needed pockets and she got it done in one week. She's really great! Pricing: to get 1 pant altered, it cost $15 which wasn't too bad. Also, this place hems bag straps too!! Came here to have my favorite jeans and button shirts repaired and tailored. Cant go wrong here very homey and the hospitality was comforting knowing I was not getting ripped off felt nice. when I was picking up the order I was even surprised to see they were dry cleaned no wrinkles! If there was a zero star option I would pick that. I gave specific instruction for my alterations but got my product back crooked poor quality sewing with loose threads all over the place. Also every single time I got my item back it comes back with a horrible offensive rotten hoarder closet type stench that required me having to wash my item every time i received it back. I just kick myself in the ass that i wasted so much money on this business for such poor quality and rude service. What a regret on "supporting local business". It says something about poor quality if the business has to justify by making excuses trying to veer you away from the original agreement so they don't have to fix it and do a good job and/or refund your money. For the past couple years, I've had a few dresses hemmed at Li's. The end results were always good and the price is reasonable. I've never had to pay more than $10 to $12 for most of my orders (depending on the level of difficulty because of the types of fabrics that were involved). He's a quiet but very sweet man. A very honest man too, he will tell you if he's not able to alter a particular item. He once humbly suggested that I go elsewhere to alter a very complicated dress (had to hem it and change out a zipper that ran all the way down to the hem). I appreciated his honesty, some would still take the job anyways and end up ruining the dress (like the one I ended up taking it too....frick). Btw, thanks for pretending not to see the pair of panties that was attached (damn you static cling!) to one of my dresses when I initially took the dresses out of the bag. He's a true professional indeed! Lol! He usually asks for a week since he's super busy (evident by all the clothes waiting for pick-up on his shelf), but if he gets done earlier with it, he'll call you to let you know that it's ready. I've never had to get anything done asap, so I'm not sure what his fee would be for rush items. I've taken in dresses that ranging from $30 to $120 in value, never been disappointed yet! I just dropped off 2 more maxi dresses yesterday and will be returning on Friday for pick-up. Thanks Mr. Li! UPDATE: Picked up my 2 maxi dresses earlier than the promise date. He works fast! I used the power of Yelp to find Li's Sewing Service the other day. I had no idea where to take something I needed to get fixed and used Yelp to help me find Li's. I had a brand new designer bikini bottom that had one part come unraveled and needed to sew up that one piece. I called Li earlier in the day and he said he could do the fix and to just come on by. I came at around 4:15pm and he closed at 5pm. He told me to come back before he closed and he'll have it done. He charged me only $3 and it was sewn up like new within 45 minutes! Because it was a designer bikini bottom (worth $100), I was hesitant to have just any one fix it especially going to somewhere for my first time, but I felt that LI did a great job and I would bring more items here int he future to be altered. Li was a very personable man, looked very hardworking and very knowledgeable on alterations. He had a simple and small work area that was very clean. He was very nice and I was very pleased with his service. Definitely a recommendation for alterations! read more

How I found Li's: As a slim person with athletic shoulders, I often need to get the body of clothes tailored down. In college I was looking for someone to do some slimming of the body on a suit that I had bought at Savers for cheap. After shopping around at a couple places, Li's turned out to be the cheapest. Customer Service: Li is a nice guy who doesn't over charge you and errs on the side of conservatism in the work he's willing to do. For example I had a Nike Dri-Fit shirt that he didn't want to work on due to it's delicateness. This is perfectly fine because I'd rather have someone tell me no then only learn after the fact they were unsure of something. His turn around time is typically about a week. Craftsmanship: His suit alteration was good, but as I've become more educated about what tailors can do, and he seems to be the per se solid budget tailor. I really started to understand his limits after asking him about doing surgeons cuffs on a suit (See #9 in http://www.prepidemic.com/archives/top-ten-tricks-of-the-tailor/) He didn't' want to touch a couple things on this list, which meant that I should look to establish a relationship for my suit alterations elsewhere. Usually I have Li tailor down my shirts. For $10 its solid, however his finishing isn't the best as there's always a few hanging threads. Considering I typically bring him stuff which I purchased for under $20, it's not that big a deal. I've never had problems with the shirt coming apart at the seems aether, so I will continue to use him in this regard. read more

I had a zipper replaced and it broke after a week used a cheap plastic one and only a single stitch for $15 better to go to Hakuyosha and have it done right and spend the money $22. Very disappointed in quality and service, I also found them to be very disorganized as they couldn't find my pants at first. read more

I took a beautiful linen curtain to be alternated to fit a smaller window and the sewing woman totally ruined it! She cut it in the wrong direction then after just cutting it, handed it back to me! I can't believe my experience with this shop. All we were doing was taking a half inch off the sleeves of my jacket. It cost $36...ok so he tells me it will be ready by Thursday. So I come back Thursday, pay the man and off I go. Don't really look at the jacket till a week later and he never touched it! Why didn't he explain it wasn't ready?! In fact, I thought it was only going to be $6. He had to explain it was $36 but never mentioned he didn't do the work at all! Incredible. I walked all the way back to my apartment to grab my checkbook since I didn't have the cash and never once did he say he needed more time, etc and he took that check and cashed it. I would have gladly gave him another week to finish the job if he couldn't get to it. Don't know why or how that happened but hate he did it to a hard working neighbor who gave him plenty of time to do a job that was paid in full while he knew it wasn't done. Wish I could give him no stars in this review, I was totally screwed when I got to the mainland for my sister's wedding only to notice this. And yes, it def wasn't touched, a button was suppose to be moved for it. Can't trust nobody, it's crazy! read more

Li's was a great find for me. My daughter's stuffed animal had holes starting to wear in it's hands and was losing stuffing. She has had this stuffed animal for years and would be really upset if she ever lost it. Li's not only was able to repair the stuffed animal by hand sewing on patches to it's hands, but also had it done in only a few hours. Can't recommend Li's enough. They made my daughter very happy. read more
