I was in search of a new seamstress to do some pants alterations. Whether I'm fat or skinny, unfortunately for me since I've vertically challenged, whenever I purchase a new pair of pants, I will need some kinda alterations done to the pants leg. For the last 5 years I've been going to the Sheridan Laundry Center to get my pants altered, as my Yelp buddy - Bruddah Peter Y. was da one who hooked me up with a great tip on that place (I used to pay $10 bucks per pants). Unfortunately for me, since Covid-19 happened towards the end of 2019, and businesses having to pause & shut down briefly in 2020, I noticed that the nice Korean lady who used to do all my alterations work at Sheridan Laundry Center had her work hours cut. I guess some business never fully recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic, and although most places have learned to live with the new "normal" - sadly, the alterations dept. at Sheridan Laundry Center is no more (insert SAD Panda Face here). While searching on Yelp for a new place to get pants alterations, I came across a wonderful review written by my Yelp buddy - Bruddah Craig T. of this business called - "Silk Boutique". Where is Silk Boutique located???? If you know where the First Hawaiian Bank in Makiki is, this little alteration shop is just across the street going ewa, just a few doors down from Auntie Pasto's. I found street parking & walked up to the door. A lady who was working there opened the door & greeted me. I asked the nice lady - "how much was it to alter my Michael Kors pants, and another special lined pants" I had purchased? She in turned told me $12 smackaz per pants. Shoots! I told here.........went to put on my pants so that she could mark it off for alterations. Upon paying my $24.00 cash for 2 pair of pants, she in turn told me to come back on Friday, a really fast 2 day turn around!!! Awesome-sauce!!! Picked up my pants, and I could clearly see that the workmanship was steller! No complaints at all! I think I found my new place to get my pants altered!!! read more

Not great for aloha shirt alterations. I had a silk shirt altered here and maybe the measurements were not thorough enough, but the finished product was way different from the fitting and pinning session. Also, there were some extra modifications made to the arms that were not expected. I was under the impression that the sleeves would be shortened a little, but they were shortened a lot and shrunk in diameter. She never measured my biceps so now I can't actually wear the shirt as it may rip. I also can't lift my arms more than 1/2 way. It was not like this when pinned, it feels wayyyy smaller now. She also removed all the extra fabric, I'm not sure how common it is but my previous two tailors did not do this right away and I really with she didn't. I'm out a $300 shirt the day of the event. read more

I came in on December 17th to have some shorts taken in on the waist. I had been looking for a new place to get alterations done due to me losing a few pounds while deployed. I started with an alteration shop called "Sew Good" on King Street and ended spending 65 dollars for two pairs of pants and 52 dollars for just one pair! I realized that was insane so I started researching other shops and this one came up. I visited and let's just say I won't be going back to Sew Good. The owner was able to take these shorts in from a size 33 to a 30 and did it for the price of 32 dollars. I am so grateful to have found this place! The only downside is that, it's cash only so to save you the trouble of having to run across the street to First Hawaiian, bring cash with you. It's also pay up front but the work is good so don't be afraid to pay up front. read more

I've been coming here for about a year now to get my pants hemmed. It's pretty reasonable (~$12 per piece) and she does really good work. I recently brought in 2 dresses that I needed hemmed and taken in (due to weight loss) and she did an awesome job. I'm now able to use these dresses again when I thought I would just need to donate it. My mom was my seamstress until she passed away last year, so I never needed a seamstress. Well, look no further. Silk boutique does awesome workmanship and this lady does fast work! I've been coming here for about 2 years now and the owner is so nice and friendly and her job is quality and fast turnaround. Not to mention names but you all know the 2 big name cleaning company I use to go to for my hemming was a rip off. I normally go through work pants like every 6 months do I need to get my pants hemmed. The other alterations places charge about $13.00 each leg so total $26 and takes about 1 week? Silk Boutique she charges $4 per leg so of course totaling $8 before it was $6 I guess due to Covid19 prices gone up a little , but that's ok because her turnaround is normal 1-2 days that's awesome. 2nd visit here and I'm just as impressed as the first time! First time around, I needed to hem the length of one shirt and one pair of pants, I think it was roughly $20 something. Great quality work especially since they were clothes that I wanted to use for work. This time I needed to hem two pairs of pants and the sleeves of one shirt, super affordable at just $36, I believe that's basically $6 per hem. Anywhere else it'd be probably $15-25 per pants. Just be aware that this place is cash only. Definitely a no-frills type of place: you go in, let aunty know what kind of work you need done, and get changed in the small changing "room." It's really just a curtain in a small corner of the room, it feels slightly embarrassing the first time but you quickly realize that it's really not a big deal lol. Once you step out, she quickly takes the measurements she needs with just a single pin per clothing item, process takes like 2 mins tops. Then it's back to the changing room and then you hand over your clothes. You prepay for the items and then she tells you what day to return by. For me, I dropped it off on a Monday and got it back on Thursday. I believe you can ask for a rush order but obviously there'll be an extra cost for that. I like the quality of her work and that she uses matching thread color for the hems so you can't even tell that it's been altered. A very friendly aunty who just wants you to be comfortable in your clothes! Highly recommend for affordable alterations in a quick turnaround time. read more

Was definitely expecting higher quality per reviews. Had pant cuffs sewn after they came undone and was not even close to original quality stitching or style. They charged me $9-$10 to hem pants and casual jacket sleeves and did a quality job. It's usually a drop off and come back the very next day for pick-up kind of transaction, but they once told me to come back in 3-days because they were busy. At times it's difficult understanding what is being said, but hey you can beat their price and turn-around times so it works for me! Tips: * It's VERY informal they usually open sometime around 9:30 and close sometime around 6pm so don't set your busy calendar around their open and close times. * No receipts or pick up tags are given. When you come to pick up your items you look on the rack for your stuff and give it to the lady. * No credit cards - CASH only. * Plan ahead because you will pay SIGNIFICANTLY more (at least double) for same day rush jobs. read more

I haven't had a pants hemmed or taken in before so not sure if $25 is a good price? The one star off is because it's cash only and must be paid upfront. I took my wedding dress in which needed to be hemmed, the straps just slightly taken in, a bustle put on and the belt around the waist taken off. I went in today to pick it up. She took the straps up too high so with that and how much she hemmed it is entirely too short. And it raised where the zipper is and now it's too tight. When I said the straps she insisted she only took it a little but there is NO way. Then she didn't just hem, she cut the material off so there is nothing to let back out. The purpose of the bustle is so you are not dragging your dress, right? Well it drags on both sides and said I have to just hold it. I asked if she could do it differently and she said no, I just have to hold. Who wants to hold their dress the whole reception? She didn't take off the belt so she did it while I waited in tears. She happily took my money and did nothing to try and help make it right. DO NOT take anything of importance or value here. I'm at a loss of what to do now. read more

I was able to get my dress that week and it looks PERFECT! The bust area fits amazingly and the hem is exactly where I need it to be with my heels. I couldn't be more pleased. I'm 5 feet tall, so it's rare that I find a pair of pants that fit me just right in length. Jeans especially, even with "ankle length" are always just a tad too long. My co-worker recommended Silk Boutique for alterations and I've been using them for the past 3 years! Really cheap, well done alterations is why I keep returning. It costs $8 to hem my denim jeans and it comes out looking like the original hem. To hem softer materials, it costs around $10 depending on the material and the style. My alterations as usually done within a day. As mentioned, I keep returning because it's cheap and well done. Customer service is totally lacking, and things are done "casually here, so go with an open mind, lol! They don't always open on time, they never take my name down, and they don't give "claim receipts". You basically go in at your convenience, put your clothing item on, get pinned (one pin for hems, on one leg, to be exact) and you trustingly leave your clothes and tell the seamstress, "I'll be back tomorrow to pick it up!" and hope that no one else decides to claim your clothes between now and then. You don't even pay until you pick up your items. At first, I was turned off by this, but for three years, I've always gotten all my clothes back, and the seamstress is excellent at what she does, so I'm a happy customer! Happened to pass by on the way to buying lunch and saw the sign for masks, so I had to check it out. The masks are well made and are 4 layers (3 fabric and 1 interface) with a opening to add an additional filter. The masks fit my kids well and plan to make a trip back to get a few more. We've been using them for alterations for couple years. We're always satisfied with the work. She gets it done within a week and what she charges is super reasonable. It's towards the end of the block down from Auntie Pasto on the right side as you head makai on Pensacola. The down side is there's limited street parking. A very simple request but was turned away. My wife was willing to pay for the service but was told NO. The only way for them to do the measurements was for her to purchase a dress or some sort of clothing. I had 3 pairs of work pants that needed a simple hem. Not a fancy cuff and me being short and stubby always need to get some inches in the bottom taken in. Well found this place since is close to my office and dropped it off on the way home. Meter parking in the front, super nice lady helped me. Pinned up each of my pants and said ready in 2 days! She charged me $9.00 per pants which was much cheaper than the $15.00 that much of the other places charge. Inexpensive and good work which is why I've been coming to this alterations place for years( mind you never take anything really good here). But the owner is often not there when her hours are posted and more than once the work is not finished when she says it will be. Given the difficulty with parking and the inconvenience of coming back several times to pick up your items , I've decided I need to find another place to take my alterations. The shoe place next door in contrast gives you a ticket with the date to pick up your items circled. If the item is not ready the owner will call you and let you know. I suggested this to the owner of Silk boutique because she doesn't label anything. Unfortunately I don't think she understood what I was talking about. Having a business means doing good work at a fair price but also being professional in the way you handle your customers and being there when you're supposed to be. I've been coming here for years. Tina has a central location, although it's street parking, I run in and out so it works out. She has done tons of work for me from cutting my bikini bottoms smaller to hemming pants, taking in and expanding and inches as well as fixing gear for work. I'm not a stickler about time, so we smile at each other and say a week's time or so if great. Her prices are reasonable pending work, $5 to $7 for a hem or two up to $20 for a bigger job. Hate this place, never placed a review before but want to warn people who go here. First time here, I had a simple top that needed a loop and button to close the top. They spoke another language and told me they didn't do it while explaining they couldn't cut it because of the material, etc. Then they said they could do it in white, I had to ask several times if they could do it or not, didn't understand what they were saying. She told me to wait, which I didn't want to do, and showed me a button and asked if this button was okay. It was nice, but after I got it I noticed the button had writing on it and looked weird on the shirt. Her sewing and the fabric she used looked cheap. Don't go here if you want a good job, or you have to check to see what they're doing as they will trick you if they can. read more
